Earlier today, we took a look back the Wes Craven-directed 2005 thriller Red Eye… so we figured, why not follow that up by taking a look at a remake of a Craven horror film that was released the year after Red Eye reached theatres? The movie we’re taking about is the 2006 version of The Hills Have Eyes (watch it Here), a remake of Craven’s 1977 classic. It’s time for this one to be revisited, and you can hear all about it in the embed above.
While the original film was written and directed by Craven, Alexandre Aja directed the remake from a screenplay he wrote with Grégory Levasseur. Here’s the synopsis: Bob Carter and his wife Ethel, along with five other members of the family, are heading for San Diego with their camper van. An accident strands them in the desert and while two of the men go for help,...

This weekend marks the release of writer/director Ted Geoghegan's third feature Brooklyn 45, now streaming on Shudder after a successful festival run earlier this year. Set in a single room over the course of one bitter cold night between Christmas and New Years Eve in 1945, a small group of war buddies get together to support an old friend…and commune with the dead in an impromptu seance. Naturally, the night does not go as planned. Secrets are revealed, morals are tested, and the group is visited by a ghost or two.
We sat down ahead of the release of Brooklyn 45 to talk with Ted Geoghegan about the process of fleshing out his military-focused story with his father (a retired U.S. Air Force Staff Sergeant), why he enjoys working in specific periods of time, and what lessons modern American can learn from Post-wwii America.

Easing into the first few minutes of Brooklyn 45, one gets a feeling of a slower pace of life. Not just for the times it is set in but also in the manner in which the story unfolds stylistically as well as narratively. This is a film that unpacks slowly and takes its time to say what it wants to say. Set in post-war America, it is about a group of veterans who meet for a reunion at their friend’s place, who is grieving his wife’s premature passing.
The dramatis personae of the story are Clive, the recently widowed Colonel played by Larry Fessenden; Major Paul Di Franco, played by Ezra Buzzington, who is a tough, no-nonsense soldier for whom the war never ended; and Jeremy Holm as Archie, a soldier who has a reputation for being courageous and is respected by the squad. He is currently defending...

Plot: Trapped in their host’s lounge, the Greatest Generation now finds themselves put to one final test, with their only route to freedom being more bloodshed.
Review: The 1940s isn’t an era we see utilized often in horror so it immediately brings up some intrigue when a genre film takes place here. Due to World War 2, the 40s are often relegated to some war stories, and here is no different. Brooklyn 45 follows five military veterans meeting together after the war is over. But they soon find their friendship tested as their past comes back to haunt them. It’s an interesting concept, that caters to those that like a slow burn. But those expecting answers may end up a tad disappointed.

In Brooklyn 45, World War II has recently ended, and the wounds that it’s left are raw for some of the veterans at the film’s center. Among them is Major Archibald “Archie” Stanton (Jeremy Holm), who’s on trial for war crimes, and Lieutenant Colonel Clive “Hock” Hockstatter (Larry Fessenden), who drinks away the sorrow of his wife’s suicide, committed weeks prior after raving that their neighbors were Nazi spies. It’s the holidays and concern for Hock has brought the comrades in arms together, who are corralled into the drawing room that they will occupy for almost the entirety of the film—and not always of their own free will.
Among the other guests are buttoned-up Major Paul Difranco (Ezra Buzzington) and ace interrogator Marla Sheridan (Anne Ramsay), who brings her husband, Bob (Ron E. Rains), into their friend group. It’s through Bob, who spent the war comfortably behind a desk,...

"The ghosts of your past would like to have a word with you." Shudder has revealed an official trailer for an indie horror creation titled Brooklyn 45, the latest from indie genre filmmaker Ted Geoghegan. This premiered at the 2023 SXSW Film Festival, also playing at The Overlook Festival, and will be streaming on Shudder (as well as on AMC+) starting in June this summer. It's one of these original indie creations that deserves our attention and if you have the time, check it out at home. It's set in the 1970s and takes place entirely at a Brooklyn brownstone. Five military veterans, best friends since childhood, gather together to support their troubled host, and the metaphoric ghosts of their past become all-too-literal. The film stars Anne Ramsay, Ron E. Rains, Jeremy Holm, Larry Fessenden, Ezra Buzzington, and Kristina Klebe. This starts out rather nice and turns into something crazy & intense in the second half.

With a tip of the hat to Agatha Christie and a nod toward “Twelve Angry Men,” writer-director Ted Geoghegan (“Mohawk”) skillfully sustains suspense and showcases a strong cast in “Brooklyn 45,” a supernatural-themed chamber drama about a small group of World War II vets entangled in a séance where visits from the restless departed are hardly the worst threat to participants. Set for a June 9 premiere on the Shudder streaming service after a sprint on the festival circuit, the film impresses as a well-crafted period piece with some pointed observations about paranoia and xenophobia that feel, discomfortingly, as relevant as recent news reports about over-reactions by stand-your-ground shooters.
It’s a cold December evening in 1945 when Lt. Col. Clive “Hock” Hockstatter (Larry Fessenden) summons to his Park Slope, Brooklyn brownstone four friends whose lives, like his, have been drastically affected by their recent wartime experiences: Marla Sheridan (Anne Ramsay), a...

Ted Geoghegan's "Brooklyn 45" could be a '40s teleplay read over outdated radio sets — you can practically hear the static crackle behind line readings. The World War II era chamber piece confronts our obsession with fighting ghosts and humankind's refusal to move onward, all contained to a New York City brownstone. There's a heavy emphasis on conversations between old war buddies that draw away from the horror influences of a botched paranormal ritual, as Geoghegan lays the atmosphere on thick while the camera pans around a veteran's cluttered memorabilia den. It's a chilling story of the specters that haunt our memories, not the most fierce supernatural lock-in. Still, for those who latch onto dialogue-heavy stage play performances, "Brooklyn 45" speaks to the unshakable terrors of existence.
It's December 27, 1945, and Lt. Col. Clive Hockstatter (Larry Fessenden) has opened his home to four friends with ties to his World War II deployment.

Despite the spooky séance setup in Brooklyn 45, writer/director Ted Geoghegan is less interested in exploring a literal interpretation of ghosts. Instead, the filmmaker connects the ghosts of our past as a metaphor for present-day national turmoil and paranoia. The period-set chamber piece gives precedence to fraught tension among friends over conventional scares.
It’s December 27, 1945, mere months after the official end of World War II. The nation is still reeling, but for Lt. Col. Clive “Hock” Hockstatter (Larry Fessenden), it’s even worse; he lost his wife Susie on Thanksgiving. In an attempt to reconnect with her, Hock invites military friends Marla Sheridan (Anne Ramsay), her husband Bob (Ron E. Rains), Major Archibald Stanton (Jeremy Holm), and Major Paul Difranco (Ezra Buzzington) over to his Park Slope Brownstone in Brooklyn under the guise of drinks among old friends. They barely have time to catch up when Hock locks...

It’s supposed to be a nostalgic, supportive night. On December 27, 1945, five military veterans and friends from childhood gather inside a Brooklyn brownstone to reminisce about old times, celebrate the end of World War II, and comfort a grieving host whose wife has recently passed. But what starts with sentimental banter and a strong whiskey buzz quickly spirals into an unexpected séance that conjures the paranormal, sparks some paranoia, and builds to a possession that seems hell-bent on staining the wood-paneled parlor with as much blood as possible.
That’s the fun, gory, alarming premise behind Brooklyn 45, Ted Geoghegan’s third feature film that asks a lot of heavy questions in-between its abrupt moments of splatter. When does the war really end? Who decides when it’s over? How do you determine ethics in the midst of battle? Within the useful limitations of a one-night, one-location get-together, Geoghegan mostly makes good on his script,...

Holy hell this year’s SXSW Film Festival isn’t messing around.
The official lineup has just been revealed and it’s a banger, starting off with a special screening of Evil Dead Rise!
In addition, they have several prominent horror titles that will premiere as part of the Midnighters program, including the Sundance hit Talk to Me and the surprise sequel to Becky, The Wrath of Becky!
“Midnighters don’t need to be exclusively horror films, they just need to perk you up and get your blood pumping,” said Peter Hall, Film & TV Festival Programmer. “That’s why this year’s SXSW Midnighters class is a mix of horror, bone-crunching action, and mind-melting genre hybrids. Some of them introduce new, terrifying lore to the canon of suburban horror movies, some will worm around in your brain like thoughts you can’t shake, but all of them will make you...

Exclusive: In a competitive situation, Kinetic Content has landed the rights to Grady Hendrix’s forthcoming sci-fi comedic novella BadAsstronauts to develop as a half-hour television series, with Aperture Entertainment.
Described as The Right Stuff meets King of the Hill, BadAsstronauts is about ordinary Americans trying to accomplish an extraordinary, and very stupid, and also extremely dangerous task: launching a manned backyard rocket into space to rescue their abandoned friend.
Hendrix and Aperture Entertainment Founder Adam Goldworm will executive produce the series adaptation with Kinetic Content CEO Chris Coelen and President and Partner Melissa Myers.
The book’s official logline reads in part: “Melville, South Carolina was out of money, it was out of jobs, it was out of hope, and today it was out of astronauts. There were only two to begin with, and now one is stuck on the abandoned International Space Station after his mission went south.

Exclusive: AMC Network’s genre-focused streaming service Shudder has commissioned its latest original movie, Brooklyn 45, written and directed by Ted Geoghegan. The streamer will launch the pic exclusively in 2022.
The film, which began principal photography on December 2, is set on a freezing evening in December 1945, as five military veterans gather together in the ornate parlour of a Brooklyn brownstone. Best friends since childhood, they have reunited to support their troubled host – but when his invitation for cocktails turns into an impromptu séance, the metaphoric ghosts of their past become all-too-literal.
Geoghegan penned the screenplay with assistance from his late father, a disabled Air Force Veteran-turned-history teacher.
“Since losing my dad, I’ve been obsessed with bringing the powerful, timely script we collaborated on to the screen. A story of the ghosts, rage, and toxicity that follow all human conflict, the heart of Brooklyn 45 beats just...

"I love you, but I'm married to the road." This looks wild. IFC Films has released a full-length official trailer for The Nowhere Inn, a strange meta comedy mockumentary creation & authenticity from filmmaker Bill Benz. This initially premiered at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival last year, and also played at the Outfest Film Festival later in the year. The singer known as St. Vincent sets out to make a documentary about her music and touring life on the road, but when she hires a close friend to direct, notions of reality, identity, and authenticity grow increasingly distorted and bizarre. This co-stars Annie Clark, aka "St. Vincent", and Carrie Brownstein, with Ezra Buzzington, Toko Yasuda, Chris Aquilino, Drew Connick. As seen in the trailer, the film is best described as a "metafictional meditation on friendship, fame and persona." It looks quite bizarre and very Lynchian, lots of odd footage intertwining and unraveling.

The formula for the concert documentary is a tried-and-true one, with only a few surprises to arrive here and there. Martin Scorsese had some fun with the tenets of the form with the recent Rolling Thunder Revue and now St. Vincent aka Annie Clark and Sleater-Kinney’s Carrie Brownstein are here to shake things up. Originally premiering back at Sundance Film Festival last year, the comedy-thriller-documentary The Nowhere Inn will now arrive in theaters and on VOD next month.
Directed by Bill Benz, the film is a metafictional account of the two creative forces banding together to make a documentary about St. Vincent’s music, touring life, and on-stage persona. But they quickly discover unpredictable forces lurking within subject and filmmaker that threaten to derail the friendship, the project, and the duo’s creative lives.
Watch the entertaining new trailer below for the film also featuring Dakota Johnson and Ezra Buzzington.

"A small part of me was starting to second guess myself." IFC Films has unveiled the first teaser trailer for The Nowhere Inn, a strange meta comedy mockumentary creation from filmmaker Bill Benz. This initially premiered at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival last year, and also played at the Outfest Film Festival later in the year. Starring Annie Clark, aka "St. Vincent", and Carrie Brownstein, with Ezra Buzzington, Toko Yasuda, Chris Aquilino, Drew Connick. This looks exceptionally strange and alluring; a touch of David Lynch and a dash of Christopher Guest. Sundance says it's "a funny metacritique of fame that relishes the power of reinvention while calling out our incessant demand for entertainment over authenticity." Radical.

Originally premiering back at Sundance Film Festival last year, we imagine if it wasn’t for the pandemic, The Nowhere Inn would have been released in 2020. However, the timing is a bit fortuitous for its stars as IFC Films have now set it for a release this fall. Starring St. Vincent aka Annie Clark and Sleater-Kinney’s Carrie Brownstein––both of whom have new albums this year––the first teaser for the meta tale has arrived.
Directed by Bill Benz, the film is a metafictional account of the two creative forces banding together to make a documentary about St. Vincent’s music, touring life, and on-stage persona. Bill Benz’s high-concept rock mockumentary opens with a white limo speeding through the desert. The driver (Ezra Buzzington) has never heard of his passenger, the cult sensation Annie Clark, better known by her stage name St. Vincent. “I’m not for everybody,” she shrugs. The driver is unsatisfied. “Don’t worry,” he glowers. “We’ll find out who you are.”
That threat hangs over Clark’s black-bobbed head for the rest of the film’s running time. Clark hires friend Carrie Brownstein, the Sleater-Kinney guitarist and “Portlandia” comedian (with whom Clark also wrote this script), to shoot a documentary of her Masseduction tour for “people to know who I really am.” The problem is Clark is a Scrabble-playing, radish-eating, people-pleasing dork. Fans love St. Vincent, a guitar-shredding Amazon in thigh-high neon boots with a voice that sounds piped in from a spaceship. St. Vincent commands attention. As for Clark,...

Horrible things have always happened in the woods in horror movies, and “Mohawk” is no exception to the rule. But director Ted Geoghegan (“We Are Still Here”) twists the familiar revenge tropes in his historical thriller, exposing the brutality of racism and the dire future being faced by members of the Mohawk tribe in New York during the War of 1812. Taking cues from “Deliverance” and “I Spit On Your Grave,” “Mohawk” substitutes rape with racism, and puts Native Americans front and center in a revenge tale that doesn’t pull punches.
“Mohawk” sets the stage for conflict in the film’s opening scene, as Joshua (Eamon Farren), a British agent, speaks with members of the Mohawk tribe, warning them that American soldiers are on the move and will be coming for their land. Throughout the war, the tribe has remained neutral — but with the battleground approaching their own backyard, Joshua...

"There's something in these woods!" Dark Sky Films has debuted an official trailer for indie action thriller Mohawk, which premiered at the Fantasia Film Festival last year. From director Ted Geoghegan, the is about a badass, young Mohawk warrior who wages a one-woman war against bloodthirsty soldiers. Starring Canadian actress Kaniehtiio "Tiio" Horn (seen on Netflix's "Hemlock Grove") as Oak, who was raised on the Kahnawake Mohawk reserve in Quebec with her mother, Kahn-Tineta Horn, a Mohawk political activist who was once a '60s fashion model. Set late in the War of 1812, Oak and her two lovers battle a squad of American soldiers hell-bent on revenge after one of her tribe sets. Also starring Eamon Farren, Justin Rain, Ezra Buzzington, Noah Segan, Ian Colletti, Robert Longstreet, and Sheri Foster. This does look cool, though I'm not sure if the action is going to be great, this trailer doesn't have much.

Ted Geoghegan's latest feature is a historical horror feature, set in the War of 1812. Geoghegan's previous film, We are Still Here (2015) went onto win awards. Recently, Mohawk completed a film festival run, in 2017. Here, it won a great deal of praise. The film is a Dark Sky Films and Snowfort Pictures' production. Also, this title is slated for an early March release, through Video-on-demand and in a few select theatres (listed below). Kaniehtiio Horn ("Hemlock Grove") centrally stars, along with Ezra Buzzington (The Hills Have Eyes, 2006), Eamon Farren ("Twin Peaks: The Return"), Justin Rain and many others. As feature debuts go, director Ted Geoghegan’s 2015 ghost story We Are Still Here was a real kick in the ass: a slow-burn throwback to the work of Lucio Fulci that spent most of its running time building dread and atmosphere before exploding into outrageous gore in its go-for-broke climax. Beyond being an extremely effective haunted house movie (my favorite horror movie of that year), it was also a sad and atmospheric meditation on grief and loss—there was a genuine emotional backbone to the story, making it just as involving as it was scary.
For Mohawk, his 2017 follow-up that recently screened at Chicago’s Cinepocalypse film festival, Geoghegan has done it again, sneaking a real human story into thrilling genre fare. This time out, though, the human story is even more pronounced given its roots; Geoghegan has moved away from the supernatural horror of We Are Still Here and...

Press Release: Like a character in his own fiction, Ray Bradbury just won't stay dead. The celebrated fantasy/sci-fi author passed away in 2012 (August 22nd would have been his 97th birthday) but his books are best-sellers at Amazon, his novel Fahrenheit 451 is in production at HBO Films starring Michael B. Jordan (Creed, Friday Night Lights) and his name gets 100,000 Google searches each month. Now one of indie horror's own, Bill Oberst Jr. (Criminal Minds, Scream Queens) is taking Bradbury Off-Broadway.
Oberst's solo performance, Ray Bradbury's Pillar of Fire, a tale of the walking dead that is one of Bradbury's darkest early works,...

The depiction of Native Americans in the movies is notorious for its reductive stereotypes. By those standards, “Mohawk,” a bloody, low-budget survival saga about members of a flailing tribe facing off against brutish American soldiers during the war of 1812, arrives like a revelation. The sophomore feature from Ted Geoghegan is a far cry from the haunted house tropes of his debut, “We Are Still Here,” but it explores a much more realistic horror — the struggle to survive against ruthless persecution, even as the future looks grim.
It’s a fast-paced action-thriller that, while rough around the edges, delivers a wild ride — and an implicit rebuke to the limitations of Hollywood storytelling.
The movie, which premiered at the 2017 Fantasia International Film Festival, revolves around the plight of Oak (Kaniehtiio Horn), a young member of the Mohawk tribe in upstate New York, and the two men with whom she enjoys a polyamorous...
