As you can probably tell just from the title, The Last Kumite was inspired by 80s action films, the iconic Bloodsport in particular. And it opens like it stepped out of a time warp from the 1980s with an old-school pop song playing over a montage of scenes shot on the streets of New York City before taking us to the dojo where Michael Rivers is teaching his daughter Bree (Kira Kortenbach).
After an inspirational speech at the end of her training, it’s time to go see Mom. If you guessed that means a trip to the cemetery, you’ve seen as many of these films as I have.

The birth of the Transformers’ big-screen adventures began with the death of its most iconic hero.
35 years ago this week, Transformers: The Movie (now on disc in 4K from Shout! Among those action-packed sequences is one of the most traumatizing events for Transformers fans and ’80s kids everywhere: The death of Optimus Prime. Prime (Peter Cullen), at first, wasn’t a ...

This has a very 80s feel with some 90s elements in there, doesn’t it? Stan Bush has come through with a couple of big songs for the movies that people might remember since he came up with “The Touch” for the Transformers movie and “Fight to Survive” for Bloodsport. Now you’re placing him a little better, aren’t you? This clip from Baki and Kengan Ashura does a great job of allowing Stan to bust out his 80s magic and inspiration that was actually pretty cool when it first came around in a couple of other movies since it really fit

In “Bumblebee,” the lovable robot in the title uses his cassette deck to express himself after losing his voice early in the film. And when he plays the ’80s power-ballad “The Touch,” he brings a happy ending to a strange journey for the song that included a baffling pit stop in Paul Thomas Anderson’s 1997 classic “Boogie Nights.”
People who were 11 years old when “Transformers: The Movie” was released in 1986 can skip ahead a few paragraphs. But for everyone else: “The Touch” is a hopeful electric-guitar-synth-and-drum-fill-driven masterpiece that could easily pass for a Sammy Hagar or Survivor single custom-written for an inspiring ’80s training montage.
When it lifted off in “Transformers: The Movie,” the lyrics seemed to be about the Autobots and their brave fight against the Decepticons.

The 1986 animated film Transformers: The Movie is the best Transformers movie that has been made. Sure, it scarred us for life when all of our favorite characters were brutally killed off in the first 20 minutes of the film, but that's part of what made it so great and memorable. I actually got to attend the premiere of the screening when it was first released and I remember bawling when Optimus Prime died!
Now fans will get a chance to see it in theaters again or for the first time thanks to Fathom Events, Hasbro Studios and Shout! Factory. They've come together to bring the film back to theaters for one night only in September, and it has been remastered in high definition!

Paramount Pictures released a new piece of poster art for the upcoming Transformers spinoff film Bumblebee and during their panel at Comic-Con, they revealed some cool new information on the story, the villains, and another transformer that will be making a cameo appearance in the film.
This actually ended up being a really fun panel that showed off some extremely cool new footage from the movie. This movie explodes with the spirit of the original animated series and fans are going to love this movie. Even if you're a hater of the Transformers franchise, this is just going to be a great film that you won't want to miss.
As you already know, the story is set in the 1980s and even though the movie will focus on Bumblebee, it will also include lots of other elements from the franchise. Director Travis Knight confirmed that part of the story will be set on Cybertron,...

The Transformers prequel, made a mark at San Diego Comic Con, but unless you were there, you wouldn't know it. Thankfully BC was on the case with his Bumblebee Panel Breakdown!
Panel Happenings:
Bumblebee panel was so hyped. They kicked it off with a live performance from Stan Bush singing “The Touch”. That’s how you return the Transformers to Hall H! Hailee Steinfeld and Jorge Lendeborg Jr. came out with Travis Knight they were fun, but it really got dope when they mentioned the villain. “Fight For Your Right” blared, a lot of lights went off, and John Cena made his entrance through the crowd. He controlled the crowd and owned the room the rest of the panel. We learned that Starscream is not in the film, which sucks. But it's Blitzwing we've seen in the trailer. Peter Cullen, the voice of Optimus Prime, was in audience and asked a question as Prime!

Laser lights, smoke machines and a video presentation set to live musical stylings of Stan Bush singing “The Touch” set the tone for Paramount’s Bumblebee panel at San Diego Comic-Con with some major and totally tubular ’80s flair.
Bumblebee marks the live-action feature debut for two-time Academy Award-nominated director Travis Knight, who is known for movies like Kubo and the Two Strings. The director not only brought his animation eye to the Transformers movie universe but also a genuine love for the popular toy that was made famous in the ’80s.
Knight was joined by the movie’s stars Hailee Steinfeld, Jorge Lendeborg Jr., and Comic-Con first-timer John Cena — who entered Hall H like the wrestling superstar he is. They talked about their characters and their place in the movie, but more importantly, that talked about the plot of the movie which has been under wraps.

The Transformers universe made its first Hall H appearance with Bumblebee. The Comic-Con preview opened in pitch-perfect '80s fashion, with a laser light show and a live performance of "You've Got the Touch" from Stan Bush.
On hand for the presentation were stars Hailee Steinfeld, Jorge Lendeborg and John Cena, who was also celebrating his first Comic-Con, making his entrance to the Beastie Boys' "You Gotta Fight for Your Right to Party." We still have an entire year to wait for the first solo Transformers movie to hit theaters, but that hasn't stopped Paramount Pictures from delivering the first image from Bumblebee! Check out Hailee Steinfeld standing next to our favorite radio-using autobot, Bumblebee, in his classic digs!
On the run in the year 1987, Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town. Charlie (Hailee Steinfeld), on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken. When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns this is no ordinary, yellow Vw bug.
Considering what we've had to endure with the more current Transformers tales, it's nice that Paramount is allowing the series to take a step back and show us where these characters came from. While I love that they're going back to the classic Vw Bug, it is a little surprising...

The ‘80s are alive on Netflix’s “Glow” – and that means more than just the pulling of large AquaNet hair.
Besides plenty of evidence of the decade in the ring with the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling, “Glow” also features ass-kickery set to the totally ‘80s soundtrack from Patti Labelle, Journey, Tears for Fears and others. For viewers who grew up with these artists on cassette, the series has been a heart-pumping aural trip down memory lane.

There’s one song in particular that will appeal to a very specific set of ‘80s music and film fans: Stan Bush’s “Dare.” In Episode 7, the track is first heard in a montage as Ruth (Alison Brie) and Debbie (Betty Gilpin) decide to get additional instruction on their wrestling moves before their big match.

In what could only be described as an Oscar-winning caliber song and Oscar worthy acting performance, the movie Bloodsport gets my pick for our latest “Great uses of songs in movies” segment. As we all know, Bloodsport is clearly one of the best martial arts movies of all-time. Between that and Kickboxer, Jean Claude Van Damme solidified himself as “the man” when it came to action movies spearheaded by martial artists in the 80s. While he wasn’t quite at the level of a Sylvester Stallone or Arnold Schwarzenegger, you’d be hard pressed to find a more impressive portfolio of action

Once a blockbuster staple, the power ballad was the ultimate movie accompaniment. We look back at some of the classics...
For a glorious period from the mid-80s throughout the 90s, the biggest summer blockbusters were only worth their salt if they had an equally gargantuan song at the head their soundtrack. Often the success of one was inexorably linked to the other, with the likes of Four Weddings And A Funeral's feats matched and even exceeded by Wet Wet Wet's accompanying Love Is All Around.
The greatest and most successful songs belong to the power ballad genre, and are as emotionally charged and forceful as the gods of epic balladry such as Journey, Whitesnake, Bon Jovi and Meat Loaf. As the 90s became the 00s and the charts became increasingly irrelevant, the movie ballad became almost defunct, with even the song-dominant film soundtrack being...

If you're a fan of the original animated Transformers: The Movie, you've got to watch this video in which a Transformers-themed band by the name of The Cybertronic Spree perform the classic song "Dare" by Vince Dicola and Stan Bush. As you can see, the band awesomely dresses up as characters from the 1986 movie. I've never heard of this band until now, but I'm an instant fan! I also included another video of the band performing the song "Nothin's Gonna Stand in Our Way." Enjoy the videos!

So I’m sitting on my front lawn today listening to old tunes and what comes on? Why it’s “Fight to Survive” from the movie Bloodsport. Clearly this is one of the best martial arts movies of my generation and perhaps all-time. What’s also amazing is the incredible synthesizer soundtrack. I mean every single song absolutely screams 80s. It’s not quite Rocky IV but there’s some cheesy elements that just make me want to get up, lift myself, and run around the track 15 times while coming back to bench press 300 lbs. This amazing song was created by none other

Stan Bush has to consider himself one of the luckiest men in the world to be able to work with Jcvd. We’ll get to that in a minute As many of you should know, I’m a huge fan of the old Jean Claude Van Damme classics. Seriously, how could you not be? And when it comes to the best of the best it certainly doesn’t get any better than Bloodsport or Kickboxer. Speaking of Bloodsport, perhaps one of the more overlooked features of this movie is the sick soundtrack. I’m taking synthesizers up the wazoo. I’m talking “Kumite, Kumite, Kumite.”

South Park parodied cheesy '80s ski movies in animation in 2002's classic episode "Asspen," and now it looks like It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia is going to do something similar in live-action. The show's eleventh season is set to premiere on January 6th, 2016 on Fxx, and this new trailer sees the gang leaving the confines of Philly and hitting the slopes for some skiing action, backed by Stan Bush's amazing song "Dare," which I legitimately love without irony. Basically, Steam (a distribution platform by Valve that allows you to buy and play PC games) throws a summer sale every year. Usually I don’t talk about sales, but this isn’t just any sale. This is the sale for video games. Most games, even the most recent ones, get their prices slashed anywhere from 60-90%. And trust me when I say there are a lot of games and deals to be found.
But with so much goodness as far as the eye can see, sometimes the Steam Summer Sale can feel overwhelming. It’s easy to get lost in all of the discounts and wind up blowing your wallet on games you won’t play,...

We take a light-hearted look at a few of the more strange coincidences and quirks of fate in recent cinema history...
Top 10
Stories are often built on coincidences and happenstance. Chance encounters at railway stations. Bruce Willis bumping into Ving Rhames while he's out and about in his Honda in Pulp Fiction. But what about those weird patterns we see in our everyday reality, or, more to the point, in cinema history?
When Batman Begins came out, it was widely noted that Christian Bale had already played an unfathomably rich man with a secret double life before, in Mary Harron's adaptation of American Psycho. Bale's character, Patrick Bateman, even has a surname that's basically Batman with an 'e' added to it.

Spanning from the Cybertron to Earth, via the far reaches of space and a planet-eating villain voiced by Orson Welles! Describing it as a classic might be a stretch but this was an exciting war movie that taught us about loss and the fist-pumping stadium rock majesty that is Stan Bush's 'The Touch'.
Digital Spy takes a look back at 9 bits of trivia from Transformers: The Movie.

Last week, the Transformers Hall of Fame — which is, believe it or not, a real thing — inducted two fictional robots, but only one human: a 60-year-old Los Angeles resident named Stan Bush. When the emcee uttered that human's name, cheers and applause erupted from the throngs of Transformers fans in the audience at the Pasadena Convention Center. Bush was brought on stage and he wore a grin of elation and surprise. "You're the best," he said, gesturing to the crowd. "You got the Touch!" That capitalization is intentional, because Bush wasn't referring to just any touch. He was talking about the Touch: a metaphorical blessing of strength that is the central topic of a song Bush wrote and recorded nearly 30 years ago, a power ballad called, simply, "The Touch." It's undoubtedly the greatest piece of music to come out of the Transformers franchise, and it's had a truly...

You never want to talk about circumstances of "real fandom," because it's unfair to quantify someone's affection for a piece of pop culture based on your own qualifications. Still, there is only one Transformers movie with Arcee, with Stan Bush, with the classic Transformers theme. And it wasn't made by Michael Bay, who takes his fourth swing at the franchise with this weekend's Transformers: Age Of Extinction. No, these elements can be found in 1986's The Transformers: The Movie. It makes sense that, for commercial considerations, you'd want to pack your Transformers movie with human actors. But the earlier film doesn't make the mistake of thinking we can't get enough of Sam Witwicky and his pratfalling parents. The Transformers: The Movie Immediately sidesteps this option with its gasp-inducing first few moments. One minute, we're on a robot planet called Lithone, which -- much like Cybertron -- is inhabited by innocent,...

Every year in Hong Kong, an underground martial arts tournament is held in secrecy. The Kumite (a term given to a specific type of karate) is where the world’s best fighters come together on invitation to prove their worth in full contact fights, no questions asked. United States Army captain Frank Dux (Jean-Claude Van Damme), having been trained under the auspices of Senzo Tanaka (Roy Chiao), has received his invitation to this year’s tournament and, against the orders of his immediate superiors, slips away from detection and travels to the Far East for the fight of his life. Once there, he meets fellow American fighter Ray Jackson (Donald Gibb) and nosy reporter Janice Kent (Leah Ayres), who wants a scoop on the action. Hounding Frank are two officers, Helmer and Rawlins (Norman Burton and,...

Reviving a 2.5D shooter franchise into the modern day is difficult. Making a comedic game with humor that doesn’t get stale is even more difficult. Shadow Warrior, a remake of 3D Realms Duke Nukem 3D protege, manages to succeed where other remakes have failed.
Both the gameplay and premise are simple enough to quickly grasp.
Play-wise, it’s similar to Flying Wild Hog’s Hard Reset and other strafe and shoot games like Serious Sam and Painkiller. Rather than your ducking for cover and waiting to restore health like so many other games, Shadow Warrior has the classic run and gun affair with a variety of weapons and plenty of sword play.
Just like the gameplay itself, the story is a modern update of the classic Fps genre. You play Lo Wang, a ninja-like mercenary who must deliver a mystical sword to his employer, Zilla. Suffice to say you...

Mark Wahlberg is back on the big screen this week with Lone Survivor, the gruelling true-life drama about four Us Navy SEALs who find themselves behind enemy lines during the war in Afghanistan.
Wahlberg has experienced a career resurgence of late, complementing high-profile acting roles with producing duties on Prisoners, Boardwalk Empire and Entourage. Dive into his back catalogue, however, and you'll find some great acting work from the man who started his career with the Funky Bunch.
Digital Spy picks Wahlberg's five best movie roles below:
Boogie Nights (1997)
Roles in The Basketball Diaries and Fear got Wahlberg up-and-running as a screen star, but it was Paul Thomas Anderson's porn opus Boogie Nights that cemented him as a leading man of note. As adult industry star Dirk Diggler - a role allegedly turned down by Leonardo DiCaprio - he swung from wide-eyed idealism to drug-addled desperation throughout the course of the film.

From Boogie Nights to 2 Guns, Donnie Wahlberg's brother has been on a steady upward trajectory. Here's some of our favourite Mark moments - what else should be on the list?
• Mark Wahlberg: 'I've been hustling all my life'
• Wahlberg on his 'drunken' antics on the Graham Norton Show
Talk to a young music fan about Marky Mark and they'll probably think you're offering them one of those new internet drugs, rather than discussing commercial rap's great white hope circa 1991.
Mark Wahlberg has long-since put his awkward pop beginnings behind him, and is now regarded as a very fine actor indeed (even if, for those of a certain age, he'll always be the leader of the Funky Bunch).
Here's our pick of five of his most memorable acting performances to date, including suggestions from @GuardianFilm followers laura_grande13, billys94, kool_hair and roxy_holman. What else deserves to be on the list?...

No, that's not Van Halen's "Jump" you hear the "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" band playing as Mark Wahlberg walks on stage, it's "The Touch," his impossibly bad 80s song from "Boogie Nights."
If you're like Jimmy Kimmel, you thought "The Touch" was written specially for Wahlberg to perform, but it's actually a real song by Stan Bush. Watch Wahlberg perform the parts he remembers and share some memories from the recording session above.

The latest in the series of ‘Made From Beer’ ads from Clemenger Bbdo Melbourne for beer brand Carlton Draught has romped home as the winner of August’s ad of the month, as voted by Mumbrella’s readers.
The ad is an elaborate spoof of seventies’ car chase movies and features a gang of Aussies stopping off for a beer after a bank robbery only to discover the pub is full of cops. A chase on foot ensures, during which the gang hang on to their beers, spilling barely a drop while evading capture. The ad features Stan Bush covering the poodle-rock classic “Thunder in Your Heart”.

Two years ago, fans of robots-in-disguise collectively groaned when they learned that High Moon Studios was working on a Transformers game. You see, there hadn’t been a good game based on the long-running franchise in…well…ever. Much to our surprise, Transformers: War for Cybertron was actually really freakin’ cool. When a sequel was announced at the Video Game Awards last year, High Moon could do no wrong.
Aside from a few odd missteps, they’ve made an already amazing game even better with Transformers: Fall of Cybertron.
You see, part of what makes the Cybertron games so great is the same reason that the Arkham games were such great Batman games. The game wasn’t rushed to coincide with some release date of a corresponding movie. No, the development team was free to do as they please in the universe they’re given. And boy what...

Call them "cult classics." "Guilty pleasures." "Comfort movies." We all have a mental rolodex of flicks that may not be terribly popular but, for one reason or another, they resonate in a very special way. Maybe you saw it at the right moment. Maybe you just see gold where everyone else sees feces. Whatever the case, these are the special favorites that you keep stashed away for sick days. These are some of ours.
What an amazingly cruel way to leave an impression on a child: take their most invincible hero, put him on the grandest stage possible and murder him before your young eyes. It wasn’t even an hour into the film when he met his demise, but when the closing credits rolled 84 minutes later, reality sunk in: Optimus Prime was dead and “Transformers: The Movie” was the greatest animated experience for ’80’s babies everywhere.

I had the opportunity to hit up the popular Transformers convention BotCon 2011 today in Pasadena CA., and it was pretty freakin' awesome. If you are a Transformers fan, then going to a convention like this is like being in geek heaven. There is so much great Transformers stuff to see that peoples heads were exploding!
A far as the convention floor goes, They've got a collection of Transformers: Dark of the Moon character vehicles that were actually used in the film. There are rows and rows of all kinds of Transformers toys both old and new. Looking at these toys is like going back in time. So many toys I completely forgot I had when I was a kid, yet there they were... 1000's of them, sitting on tables being sold for over five times the price of what my parents bought them for back in the 80's. There is...

For every classic theme song, a dozen are seemingly forgotten. Here’s our list of ten movie tunes that deserve to be rediscovered…
It seems like every studio-released movie today comes pre-packaged with a shiny soundtrack (Iron Man 2's AC/DC fest is a riff on 1986's Maximum Overdrive).
Sometimes a big hit emerges from the mix, but most often, songs used to promote the film in another venue, say iTunes, quickly disappear into the ether.
Gone, but not entirely forgotten, most, if not all, of the following songs from movies have found their way to the afterlife of YouTube.
Here are ten top tunes to seek out...
Sweet Talkin' Candy Man (Beyond The Valley Of The Dolls)
Beyond The Valley Of The Dolls features the usual perks of a Russ Meyer flick (including a star turn by Dolly Read), great rapid-fire editing, and boasts a script full of quotable lines by Roger Ebert.

Stan Bush is an Emmy award winning musician responsible for songs like "Dare" and "The Touch" from the original Transformers animated movie in 1986. Since then, Bush has gone on to record many albums and his anthem rock style has earned him a solid following over the past couple decades.
Stan sat down with me at in Hollywood to talk about his career and his new album "Dream The Dream," available at StanBush.com, in stores, and on iTunes September 15th.

Gt: I'm going to try to mention all of "The Touch" [above] stuff at the very beginning, front load that and get into the rest of the interview afterwards.
Sb: Sure, yeah.
Gt: I read that you originally wrote "The Touch" for the Sylvester Stallone movie Cobra. Is that right?
Sb: Yeah.
