This week on Kindred Spirits, Amy Bruni and Adam Berry visit a house that used to be the home of prolific New York state executioner Edwin Davis. The current homeowner, Jason Brown, claims to be experiencing some very disturbing paranormal activity and Amy and Adam are hopeful that they can get to the bottom of the problem and even help rid the house of its bad spirits. Davis was the first ever state electrician and helped develop the electric chair. He was also a very busy executioner and sent 240 prisoners to their deaths between 1890 and 1914. The first man...read more...

The world will finally get to know the superhero buddy comic Archer & Armstrong on the big screen.
It might be time to get used to the words 'Valiant Cinematic Universe'. Following word that Sony is developing Bloodshot and Harbinger movies, and with the Russo Brothers working on a Quantum & Woody TV series, now Valiant's Archer & Armstrong are also coming to the big screen.
The big news is that Zombieland's Ruben Fleischer is likely to direct, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Terry Rossio is writing the Archer & Armstrong screenplay and Fleischer, Jason Brown, Sean Daniel, and Dinsesh Shamdasani will produce.
Archer & Armstrong is an ongoing series about a drunken, disillusioned immortal and his adventures with an idealistic (which is putting it mildly) young man. The characters have been around since the early '90s, but the current incarnation of the series from the resurgent Valiant Entertainment has been an absolute blast.

It's just a drawing, it can't harm anyone, right? One more horror short film to feature before the end of the month. This one is titled The Drawing, made by a handful of horror fans on their own time and with their own money. The Drawing stars Clarke Wolfe (host of Collider Nightmares) as a woman who comes across a random monster drawing while out jogging. It's directed by Jason Brown of 1A Plate Productions, with a script written by Micah Roland. It's just a simple, fun, entertaining little horror short to get you in the mood for Halloween. I also dig the poster they made for it, seen below, created by artist Ted Bracewell. Watch out. Thanks to Bloody Disgusting for the tip on this short film. Description from YouTube: "A young woman discovers a mysterious crayon drawing while out for a jog. It was probably nothing, right?" The...

Macho, violent thriller hiding an original concept, where a graduate takes over a kebab house targeted by drunks – and starts a vigilante fightback
A strict script editor might have helped. Somewhere inside this baggy, macho, sloppily violent, visually uninteresting British film is a sharp black comedy struggling to get out. Salah (Ziad Abaza) is a smart young Turkish-British guy about to graduate with a politics degree, heading for a brilliant career. With nothing left to do but fine tune his final dissertation, Salah comes to help his ailing father Zaki (Nayef Rashed) who runs a late-night kebab place in a south coast seaside town – and he’s horrified at the way aggressive drunks terrorise his dad, and at the way public drunkenness has been created by a huge club, run by a cynical and sinister promoter called Jason Brown (Scot Williams). A grisly event leaves Salah in charge of the kebab shop,...

If you were looking forward to seeing an updated version of the classic Ben-Hur story on the big screen, then you'll be happy to hear that principal photography has officially started on the epic, with a more full cast last revealed as well. Come inside to see.
I'm honestly not sure what to think about a Ben-Hur remake. Done correctly, it could be pretty cool and a great way to introduce a new generation to this story. It also has a good chance of sucking, but that's the risk you take with any remake. Either way, I tend to hold off judgement until I've seen footage, which we've just taken a big step towards seeing as filming has officially started:

"Twilight" fans know well enough that while the events of "New Moon" took place in Volterra, Italy, filming for the big reunion and first meeting with the Volturi in Chris Weitz's "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" went down in the neighboring town of Montepulciano, Italy. Just like Forks, Washington, though, the story setting of Volterra is a real place in the big boot. So, the same documentary filmmakers responsible for the exploratory "Twilight In Forks" and "Destination Forks" decided to pay a visit to the real-life town upon which Stephenie Meyer's story was based and make a movie about it. As detailed by a new press release issued today, producers York Baur and Jason Brown have now released "Twilight In Volterra," a film meant to educate "Twilight" fans on the real-life town of Volterra and its connections to the "Saga." ///...

MGM is reportedly set to remake a classic. According to Deadline.com, the studio has plans to develop its 1959 classic, "Ben-Hur." Starring the late Charlton Heston, the epic "Ben-Hur" is credited with changing the aspirations of the film industry and inspiring current filmmakers, such as George Lucas.
While MGM released both the 1959 drama, as well as the 1925's "Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ," the studio sold the rights to "Ben-Hur" to Ted Turner in the '80s. As Lew Wallace's 1880 novel "Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ" is public domain, the latest "Ben-Hur" that MGM is eyeing is a script that was written by Keith Clarke ("The Way Back"). MGM, which emerged from bankruptcy and is raising new funding after Skyfall crossed $1 billion worldwide gross and The Hobbit heads to the $900 million mark, is buying a Ben-Hur spec by Keith Clarke (he scripted the Peter Weir-directed The Way Back), and the package comes with Sean Daniel and Joni Levin attached to produce, and Clarke and Jason Brown exec producing. Along with Daniel, the film’s producers are Jason Kothari, Dinesh Shamdasani, and Jason Brown with Straczynski the exec producer.
Shadowman has sold millions of comic books and spawned two multi-platform video games. In Jesse Thomas Cook’s Monster Brawl, we see the Canadian filmmaker blend both his love for the horror genre and classic ‘80s professional wrestling in the flick that features eight classic movie monsters fighting in the ultimate death match set in a haunted graveyard.
The independent horror/comedy/wrestling hybrid stars Dave Foley, Art Hingle and Lance Henriksen as the narrator as well as a handful of professional wrestlers including Kevin Nash, “The Mouth of the South” Jimmy Hart and Robert Maillet.

Monster Brawl was released to Blu-ray and DVD this week and I had a chance to talk with writer and director Jesse Thomas Cook. For those that aren’t familiar with the movie, Monster Brawl is an interesting mix of WWE-style wrestling with classic monsters and humor that reminds me of some of the classic “versus” monster films from the 60s and 70s.
Continue reading to learn about how the project came to be, monsters that didn’t make the cut, and plans for a sequel or reboot:

In case you haven’t noticed, the horror scene in Canada is a-boomin’. Over the last year, a new re-emergence in Canuxploitation has been hitting the international markets with a fury, as seen in such films as Hobo with a Shotgun, Monster Brawl (here), Father’s Day (here), In the House of Flies, Tucker & Dale vs. Evil, Pontypool, and in what might be the best of these recently released, Exit Humanity.
Killer Film caught up with director John Geddes to chat about the Civil War-based zombie story, while he is knee deep in post. Read on!
Jon: How did Exit Humanity get going? Were you interested in the Civil War prior?
John Geddes: I have always had a passion for the history of the Civil War. It was an incredible time in American history where so many lived in despair yet they showed amazing resilience and kept hope for a better world ahead.

Now that it's a verified fact that anything with the taint of Twilight will sell in truckloads, Summit Entertainment isn't content with knowing that it has three more movies in the pipeline before running the Stephanie Meyer gravy-train into the ground.
The studio has purchased the distrubution rights to Twilight in Forks: The Saga of the Real Town, a documentary examining what the effects of Twilight mania has done for the small town of Forks, Washington, the place where Meyer set her four books.
The doc was directed by Emmy-award winner Jason Brown. According to the film's website, Brown and his crew interviewed several residents in Forks including the sheriff, the principal of the local high school and a local worker that apparently gets mistaken for Bella a lot. The documentary is in post-production and Summit now has plans on releasing it to DVD when The Twilight Saga: New Moon arrives on home video,...

MTV has the latest about the documentary Twilight In Forks including their special screening in Forks this upcoming weekend nbspWere pleased to announce that were doing a sneak peek of our film Twilight in Forks in Forks itself at Forks High School on Stephenie Meyer Day which coincides with Bellas birthday in the city of Forks producer York Baur exlpained. Last year there were over a thousand fans that came to town for Stephenie Meyer Day and we expect given that there have already been 16000 people that came to Forks just in the month of July alone that there might be a pretty good turnout for Stephenie Meyer Day and hopefully for our sneak peek. The small logging town whose population hovers around a mere 3000 people has become a Disneyland for Twilighters ever since Meyer selected it as the hometown for such characters as Edward Cullen Bella Swan and Jacob Black.

Twilight in Forks
Directed by: Jason Brown
Rating: Nr
Release Date: October 15, 2009 (on DVD)
Trailer Score: 4/10
My Thoughts: Good idea, and it looks pretty, but if you want to sell this thing you must mention Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, right? Either that or you could tap into the fact that Forks, Washington (where author Stephanie Meyer set the novel) is the ranniest place in America.
The look is great, but a little investigating shows this documentary is only one hour long. The trailer is a tease. Is it focusing on people being crazy about The Twilight Saga: New Moon? Are the towns people upset they didn’t get a piece of the Twilight pie (because the movies weren’t filmed there)? We just don’t know.
You can buy the DVD on Amazon … currently $18. But the question is, will you? And if you do, feel free to write a...

His chiseled jaw, his piercing eyes, and his untamed hair are only a few reasons millions fell in love with British hunk Robert Pattinson. Another major draw to the actor was that he was taking on the role of Edward Cullen who simply is the perfect man. In New Moon, Edward selflessly (sigh) leaves Bella to protect her from his world of bloodshed and danger which means that he is absent most of the film. Chris Weitz is clearing the air and setting the record straight on how and when the sexy actor will appear throughout New Moon. Weitz told MTV, "(We wanted to avoid) just randomly inserting Rob throughout the movie. You'll see quite a lot of Rob in the film, but it's seen subjectively, through Bella's eyes. It's also in dreams that she has of him as well. It strikes this very fine balance between too much Rob and too little Rob.

Emmy Award-winning director Jason Brown has shot a new documentary about the town that is home to the Twilight movie saga.
Twilight in Forks takes a look at the real people and places of the remote Washington state town, where the vampire film franchise, adapted from Stephenie Meyer's books, is based.
The film, released on DVD in September, documents the story of "the rainiest city in the U.S." and the untold tales of its "hidden history, culture and mysticism".
Locals consider why Meyer used their town as the backdrop for her hit books and the Chief of Police recounts the meal he cooked for the author when she visited the town for research.
There's also a real-life Bella Swan living in the town, who appears on camera - a young store employee who often gets mistaken for Kristen Stewart's vampire-loving character.
