According to HeatVision Blog, Bryan Singer (Superman Returns, Valkyrie) has signed on to direct “Jack the Giant Killer,” the fantasy adventure from Legendary Pictures and New Line.
Penned by Mark Bomback (Deception, Live Free or Die Hard) and Darren Lemke (Lost (2004)) while Neal Moritz is producing via his Original Film banner. David Dobkin will co-produce alongside Legendary’s Jon Jashni and Alex Garcia.
“Jack the Giant Killer” is set in motion when a princess is kidnapped, threatening a long-standing peace between men and giants. A young farmer is given an opportunity to lead a dangerous expedition to the giants’ kingdom in hopes of rescuing her.
Apparently the film is being fast-tracked so it will mostly likely be Singer’s next movie. “Battlestar Gallactica” and remake of “Excalibur” (1981) will have to wait.

It's not really the news X-Men fans wanted to hear, but Bryan Singer has now signed on to direct Jack the Giant Killer.
According to HeatVision, the fairy-tale adventure from New Line and Legendary Pictures is being fast-tracked and is certain to be Singer's next movie. The news comes as we wait to find out if Singer will agree to helm Fox's X-Men: First Class.
It was reported last month by Variety that Singer was considering taking on the Giant Killer project - although it seems rather an odd match for his sensibilities.
The story, by Mark Bomback (Live Free or Die Hard) and Darren Lemke (Gemini Man) centres on a young farmer's expedition to the giants' kingdom to rescue a kidnapped princess. There have been several other feature film versions over the decades.
Singer is also attached to a new (and, in my opinion, totally unnecessary) remake of Battlestar Galactica for Universal, »

Bryan Singer is ready to take on giants in his own film version of Jack the Giant Killer. The Superman Returns director hops on board underneath New Line Cinemas and Legendary Pictures. The script is being penned by Darren Lemke (Shrek Forever) and Mark Bomback (Race to Witch Mountain). Ori Marmur, Michele Weiss and Michael Disco producing.
The story kicks off when a princess is kidnapped, threatening a long-standing peace between men and giants. A young farmer is given an opportunity to lead a dangerous expedition to the giants’ kingdom in hopes of rescuing her (THR). At the moment Bryan Singer is in the middle of development with Killer but also the remake of the fantasy drama Excalibur. Singer also has his teeth sunk right into the feature film version of the popular series Battlestar Galactica.

When we last heard about New Line's adaptation of Jack and the Giant Killer, the fantasy tale was being helmed by D.J. Caruso. It started popping up on Bryan Singer's To Do list when they announced the inexplicable Excalibur remake -- but now it's become official, as The Hollywood Reporter has announced that Jack will be Singer's next film, leaving Caruso free to work on Y: The Last Man if he so chooses.
Jack is a slight reworking of (shocker!) Jack and the Beanstalk with a dash of The Brave Little Tailor. It dispenses with that "I'll sell you some magic beans, and some oceanfront property in Arizona" trope, and is instead set in motion when a giant kidnaps a princess. Obviously, that premeditated action is unacceptable, and it threatens the longstanding peace between men and giants. A young farmer named Jack is given the task to lead an »

Bryan Singer is most definitely back. After a bit of post-Valkyrie downtime, the director is picking up projects including Jack the Giant Killer.

Bryan Singer is to direct Jack The Giant Killer, say reports. The X-Men filmmaker was in discussions to update the 1962 film last month. The script by Die Hard 4.0 writer Mark Bomback centres on a young farmer who embarks on a perilous journey to the titular giant's lair to save a kidnapped princess, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Among Bryan Singer's potential next projects, the most odd-seeming was Jack the Giant-Killer. (Which has been mistaken at certain points for Jack and the Beanstalk; they're different but similar stories.) Now, Singer looks to be making Jack his next film, and the movie is being fast-tracked. Hey, it's better than another Battlestar Galactica reboot, right? THR calls the film a 'fantasy adventure' that Singer will make for New Line. Mark Bomback rewrote Darren Lemke's script with a story that is "set in motion when a princess is kidnapped, threatening a long-standing peace between men and giants. A young farmer is given an opportunity to lead a dangerous expedition to the giants' kingdom in hopes of rescuing her." The basic original version of the story is that Jack is a young man from Cornwall who kills a series of giants, sometimes with the aid of magical accessories, and achieves »

The Hollywood Reporter has released the news that director Bryan Singer has been tapped to helm the upcoming film Jack the Giant Killer for New Line Cinema and Legendary Pictures. The film takes a more adult look at the classic childrens tales, “Jack and the Beanstalk” and its cousin “Jack The Giant Killer” (the latter was already made into a 1962 stop-motion film).
This news comes as a bit of surprise (though it’s not being reported that way, for some reason), as last word around the ‘Net was that Eagle Eye director D.J. Caruso would be directing the film. After a quick search and survey I haven’t turned up anything explaining why Caruso is off the project and Singer is on, but hey, it’s Hollyweird so who knows…

Bryan Singer is a busy guy these days. He’s signing directing agreements left and right. In his latest, this time with New Line, Singer has agreed to direct a new version of “Jack the Giant Killer,” written by “Live Free and Die Hard” writer Mark Bomback (he also wrote the less popular “Deception” starring Jennifer Aniston). The story is said to involve princesses, kidnapping of said princesses, and a war between giants and men. More giants after the jump.
Singer has recently agreed to direct a new film versions of “Battlestar Galactica” and “Excalibur,” making this his third remake of sorts on the horizon. He really seems to like films with a history. More interestingly, he isn’t slated to write any of these films. For a period, he was co-writing many of his scripts including “X-Men,” “X2,” and “Superman Returns.” Beginning with “Valkyrie,” he’s chosen to direct only. »

Bryan Singer has signed on to direct "Jack the Giant Killer," the fantasy adventure from New Line Pictures. The new movie will likely be Singer's next helming gig, since it is being fast-tracked by the studio. The story, by Mark Bomback (Live Free or Die Hard), is set in motion when a princess is kidnapped, threatening a long-standing peace between men and giants. A young farmer is given an opportunity to lead a dangerous expedition to the giants' kingdom in hopes of rescuing her. "Killer" is the third project Singer has attached himself to in the last two months. The other two are a feature version of "Battlestar Galactica," set up at Universal, and a remake of "Excalibur," set up at Warners with Legendary also involved. No word on whether he will add "X-Men 4" to that list. »

A young farmer is given an opportunity to lead a dangerous expedition to the giants' kingdom in hopes of rescuing her. Darren Lemke penned the original draft of the script taking a more adult angle at the popular Jack and the Beanstalk tale. The film is most likely going to be Singer's next movie. After having every single person with a television watching "House" the other night, Bryan Singer has officially come back into the spotlight. He's already signed on for Battlestar Galactica and Excalibur, but now he's also adding a twisted version on a classic story with Jack the Giant Killer. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the director will be tackling the Princess search-and-rescue mission for New Line. The story focuses on the kidnapping of a Princess and a young farmer who must venture into Giant territory to get her back. So, yeah. Bryan Singer. Great. But that's not what I care about. What I care about is that the script is from Mark Bomback, the writer of Live Free or Die Hard. That's right - we have to assume that an updated fairy tale figure will be yelling Yippee Ki-Yay while he's stealing a golden goose. Genius. Pure, unadulterated genius. Of course, Bomback »

I have to admit, the notion of Bryan Singer directing another version of the “Excalibur” myth sounds very cool, but from what I’ve read of this “Jack the Giant Killer” movie, I think this might end up being a better film when all is said and done. Or at least, it’ll be slightly more original than “Excalibur”, or even the “Battlestar Galactica” film Singer has attached himself to since “Valkyrie”. Word from THR’s Heat Vision blog is that Singer has signed on to direct “Jack the Giant Killer”, effectively making it his next movie, which means the “Excalibur” remake and “Battlerstar Galactica” movie will have to wait. Singer will be directing the fantasy adventure film for New Line and Legendary Pictures, with the ubiquitous Neal Moritz producing. “Jack the Giant Killer” was written Mark Bomback (”Live Free or Die Hard”) and Darren Lemke, and is a live-action »

Bryan Singer is getting ready to level a giant.
The X-Men, X2, and Superman Returns director will be directing Jack the Giant Killer, a fantasy adventure from New Line and Legendary Pictures. The story, written by Mark Bomback and Darren Lemke, centers around a kidnapped princess, and a young farmer who leads a dangerous expedition into the giants’ kingdom to rescue her.
Jack the Giant Killer will likely be Singer’s next movie, The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision blog reports. Since completing the Tom Cruise vehicle Valkyrie, Singer has attached himself to two other projects—a new feature version of Battlestar Galactica at Universal, and a remake of Excalibur at Warner Bros.
He’s also still much in demand by producer Lauren Shuler Donner, who said she would like to see Singer helm another 'X-Men' feature.
Giant Killer, however, is currently on the fast track.

In a story from Heat Vision, Bryan Singer (Valkyrie) is going to direct Jack the Giant Killer for New Line and Legendary Pictures.
The script is being written by Mark Bomback (Live Free or Die Hard). It all starts when a princess is kidnapped, and this causes problems between the peaceful existence between men and giants. At this point, "a young farmer is given an opportunity to lead a dangerous expedition to the giants' kingdom in hopes of rescuing her."
The original writer was Darren Lemke.
Jack the Giant Killer is believed to be Singer's next project.

Bryan Singer's just added one more directing project to his plate, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Singer's apparently ready to work back-to-back-to-back, adding Jack the Giant Killer to the list of films he'll helm. He also recently signed on to head up the remake of Excalibur and to direct a Battlestar Galactica film.
Jack the Giant Killer was written by Mark Bomback and Darren Lemke and is based on the classic fairy tale. The story involves giants (obviously), a kidnapped princess, and a young man who must save her in order to keep the peace. Neal Moritz (I Am Legend, Fast & Furious) will produce the film, which is now set up at New Line Cinema. The Hollywood Reporter says the studio hasn't indicated when production is expected to start, however THR reports Jack the Giant Killer looks like it's leaped ahead of both Excalibur and Battlestar Galactica on Singer's schedule. »

Following the recent news that Bryan Singer is to produce and direct a big-screen remake of Battlestar Galactica, it's now been revealed that he is attached to two other film projects.
According to Variety, Singer's next directing endeavour will be the New Line-Legendary co-production Jack the Giant Killer and, on top of that, he has been tapped by Warner Bros to produce, develop and possibly direct a remake of John Boorman's 1981 King Arthur epic Excalibur.
Singer hasn't yet hired a writer for the Excalibur remake, indicating it is an entirely different project to the King Arthur/Excalibur project being penned by Warren Ellis, which I reported on last month.
Jack the Giant Killer, a variation on the Jack and the Beanstalk legend, has been scripted by Darren Lemke and Mark Bomback and revolves around a young farmer who leads an expedition into the land of the giants to rescue a kidnapped princess. »

Director Bryan Singer, who recently signed on to direct a new Battlestar Galactica, and Warner Bros. are in the process of developing a remake of the 1981 adventure-fantasy film Excalibur. The project is still in the early stages, with Warners only tying up the remake rights, which it shares with John Boorman, director of the original film. Singer's involvement is right now in a producing capacity, although the project is being developed as a potential directing vehicle for the X2 and Superman Returns helmer. The 1981 movie starred Nigel Terry as Arthur and Cherie Lunghi as Guenevere and featured early performances from Liam Neeson, Patrick Stewart and Gabriel Byrne. The movie told the well-known myth, in a gritty and dramatic fashion, of the young man who draws the sword Excalibur from a stone, is mentored by Merlin, establishes Camelot, loses his wife, Guenevere, to his best friend, Lancelot, and engages in the quest for the Holy Grail. »

Bryan Singer is one busy man. Coming off the less-than-spectacular “Valkyrie”, Singer has now either attached himself or is in the process of doing so to a variety of interesting projects. The first is a planned movie version of “Battlestar Galactica” with original creator Glen Larson for Universal that is believed to be separate from the Ron Moore TV “re-imagining”, and now two more projects have surfaced as potential next movies for the director: a remake of John Boorman’s 1981 classic “Excalibur” and a fantasy, live-action version of “Jack the Giant Killer”. Word from Variety is that Singer is close to signing on to produce and develop (and possibly direct) a remake of Boorman’s “Excalibur” for Warner Bros., though it’s looking more likely that his next directing gig will be “Jack the Giant Killer” for New Line and producer Neal Moritz, from a script by Darren Lemke and Mark Bomback. »
