"Want what I got? You gotta go all the way." Mill Creek Entertainment has revealed the official trailer for a crime thriller film titled Dead Wrong, the latest from filmmaker Rick Bieber (no relation to Justin Bieber Afaik). This is set for a VOD release at the end of May if anyone is interested in giving this a look. A story of greed, envy, sex and murder. A narcissistic husband is not satisfied anymore and wants more. He devises a psychotic, get-rich-quick scheme with his new, gambling-addicted attorney that ignites an emotional and deadly chain reaction. Which quickly overwhelms the lives of those around him. Sounds like fun, doesn't it? This stars Derek Smith, Katrina Bowden, Chelsea Debo, Cress Williams, Blake Shields, Rosalie Ward, Joshua Bitton, Chet Hanks, with Rob Schneider. Alas this doesn't look like it's worth a rental. // Continue Reading ›...

The year 1990 was a pretty decent time for a trip to the movies, especially if you’re a self confessed gore-hound, like yours truly. There’s nothing better than sitting down in a packed movie theater, or even at home with the pet cat or a similarly cherished human, to watch some carnage on the screen. Tom Savini’s Night of the Living Dead was a fun remake of the 1968 classic, while we also got the likes of It, Tremors, Child’s Play 2, Gremlins 2, Predator 2 (there’s a theme forming here…) Killer Crocodile 2. Ok, maybe not that last one. Also, if you’re a fan of Stephen King adaptations, the year also brought the ankle smashing Misery with Cathy Bates in full on psycho mode, plus the outlandishly bad, in a good way, Frankenhooker, replete with all of its soft-core pornography and grisly images. Which brings us...

Producer Lisa Saltzman has acquired the rights to “Burning Bridges: Life With My Father Glen Campbell” and plans to adapt the story of the “Rhinestone Cowboy” singer into a feature film.
Debby Campbell, the singer’s daughter, wrote the best-selling biography with Mark Bego. Saltzman will produce alongside Rick Bieber (“Crazy”).
“Burning Bridges: Life With My Father Glen Campbell” offers a firsthand, warts-and-all account of one of the most successful musicians of the 20th century, a man who released more than 70 albums which sold more than 50 million copies. At the pinnacle of his fame, Campbell recorded chart-toppers such as “Galveston,” “By the Time I Get to Phoenix” and “Wichita Lineman.” He won four Grammys in the country and pop categories, and also received a lifetime achievement award.
In addition to music, Campbell also branched out into acting and television. He co-starred with John Wayne in “True Grit” and sang its Oscar-nominated title song.

Rick Bieber’s latest directorial effort is being released on the same day as the remake of Flatliners, the original 1990 version of which he produced. Whether or not that’s a coincidence, this tedious slog of a horror movie isn’t likely to provide much competition. Notable only for featuring Alex Rocco in his last screen role, Don’t Sleep practically begs audiences to defy its ill-chosen title.
The film begins with a prologue in which a young boy experiences a terrorizing nightmare set in a graveyard. That’s followed by an onscreen quotation from Nietzsche, which is the first sign that we’re in...

It’s hard to take The 5th Quarter and similar films created with such an overt evangelical message seriously, and yet it’s a style of filmmaking that’s taking off in response to the growing “demand” for such films by the increasingly vocal Christian populace of America. Earlier this year the audience in question enjoyed Soul Surfer while the rest of the world squirmed uncomfortably in their seats as the 30-minute “movie of the week” story stretched to 90 minutes. The 5th Quarter has a similar “true story” premise, but this time of instead of the survivor going on to do great things in faith, it’s their death that spurs their loved ones to action. As a concept The 5th Quarter could have proved as entertaining as it is (theoretically) inspiring if not for the incompetent direction and writing of Rick Bieber and woefully bad acting by its lead,...

The story of a family’s reaction to the senseless death of a young son and brother, “The 5th Quarter,” written and directed by Rick Bieber, inspires, heals and transforms. In a time of war, its relevance resonates. Based on real-life events, the film offers a feel-good story and a powerful message — viz, we can get through this together. Though riddled with structural problems, the film offers a cathartic emotional roller coaster that begins with grief and ends with elation.
Taking as its theme how coping with grief is a team effort, the film recounts how after his 15-year-old brother Luke (Stefan Guy) dies in a car crash, Jon Abbate (Ryan Merriman) decides to pull himself out of his alcohol-fueled spiral and, in his brother’s memory, returns to lead Wake Forest...
