Cm Punk has just undergone a sizable downgrade – in a video game, anyway. Following considerable outcry from fans over the fact that Punk, a fighter with zero amateur or professional fights who has yet to compete in the Ufc, was reportedly gifted an 85 rating in EA Sports’ upcoming Ufc 2 game – the company has gone into damage control mode, and announced that instead, the fighter will be at the absolute bottom of the talent pool.
Fighters in Ufc 2 are ranked out of 100, and the 85 score put Punk well above the level many feel he is at as a mixed martial artist.
On a Twitch livestream with Ufc flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson earlier this week, the creative director of Ufc 2, EA Sports’ Brian Hayes, stated that the version with the 85 rating – which put Punk above veteran fighters like Tim Means, and fighters from the version game in the series like Pat Berry – was a beta,...

A little while back, it was announced that Cm Punk would in fact be part of EA’s Ufc 2, the hotly anticipated Mma game to be released later in 2016.
That wasn’t surprising, despite the fact that he has yet to have his first Ufc fight. After all, as a fighter under contract to the Ufc, they have every right to put him in there, regardless of his experience – and lets face it, his name will draw eyeballs just by being in the game. Love him or hate him, Punk brings exposure everywhere he goes. No way was EA going to lose out on that.
Now, the first image of Punk in the game has been released – as has, by way of an advanced report on the game – his in game rating. And it’s that rating that may ruffle some feathers.

With the Ufc looking to “move the needle” and boost sagging PPV buys, and Brock Lesnar being a guy who will go where the money is, it’s no surprise that talk of the WWE champion’s return to the Mma world is hotter than ever leading up to Wrestlemania 31, when his WWE contract is widely believed to expire.
Could Lesnar make a second run in Mma and be successful? Sure, as long as he’s healthy, trains right, and finds the proper training camp (after all, Death Clutch, the camp that included Lesnar, Bellator heavyweight champion Cole Konrad, and Ufc heavyweight Pat Barry shut down, and all three men are currently retired from the sport of Mma).
However, how much of the Lesnar return talk is smoke and mirrors, and are there any signs that he could legitimately return to the sport he once dominated? Most media pundits...

Don’t look now, but history may just be about to repeat itself: for the second time in recent Bellator Mma history, their heavyweight champion might retire while holding the title.
The first time this happened, it was undefeated Bellator heavyweight champion Cole Konrad, a former training partner of Ufc heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar and a big part of Lesnar’s camp, Death Clutch, along with Pat Barry. After Lesnar retired at the end of 2011, Konrad and Barry kept Death Clutch going for a bit, but Konrad retired in 2012, saying he knew the writing was on the wall for him in the fight game: despite being a champ, he wasn’t fighting often enough, had a new family to consider, and didn’t have the personality to be a top star. Speaking to Mma Fighting after his retirement, Konrad stated “There’s great money there for top guys,...

With over 400 of the world’s finest fighters being signed to the Ufc, it was inevitable that some names would disappointingly be left out of EA Sports forthcoming Ufc game. The insane detail in which the game’s character models are rendered would mean that the title would be far too big and take far too long to create for everyone’s favourite fighters to be featured. Thankfully, EA have promised that select fighters will become available to purchase as Dlc after the game’s release.
However, some of the omissions from the games starting roster of 99 fighters are so egregious that it is shocking that EA were able to justify leaving them out. Some fighters who have been included in the initial roster seem far less deserving of a place than those who have not made the cut. The decisions as to which fighters were included is – at times – baffling.

In part 2 of the Getting Lucky Mma podcast Ultimate Fighter spectacular, I am joined by fellow Mma columnist, Marcus Mitchell, to break down all the action in the Ultimate Fighter 16 Finale. As a surprise move, Dana did not invite any of the season contestants other than the finalists to partake on the card, obviously to shake up the complacency in the housemates over lackluster performances and commitment.
The card was highlighted by Roy Nelson dominating Matt Mitrione on the feet with a beautiful uppercut. The fight was punctuated with a well-timed flurry by Big Country to turn off Meathead’s lights completely. The Tuf 16 Welterweight champion was also crowned, Us Army Ranger Colton Smith.

Episode Summary (#010 – part 2): In a card that was largely de-fanged by injury (Shane Carwin) and even last second pestilence (Melvin Guillard vs. Jamie Varner), there was still plenty of excitement. Nine out...

We’ve got a massive mixed martial arts podcast spectacular for this episode (#009). With co-hosts English Thom Burton in part 1 and fellow Mma columnist Marcus Mitchell in part 2, we cover all of the action from both Ultimate Fighter finales, airing December 14th (Smashes) and December 15th (Tuf 16).
In addition, join me as I interview Tuf Smashes Australian coach George Sotiropoulos (14-4) on the show, Mma in Australia, and his upcoming fight with British brawler, Ross Pearson (13-6). I also spoke with Hector Lombard (31-3) about his unsuccessful debut in the Ufc and his game plan against his next opponent, Rousimar “Toquinho” Palhares (14-4).
Episode #009 Summary: A review of each of the main cards from each card, starting with Tuf: Smashes. We start with the four finalists of the show, Welterweight and Lightweight, and pick the winners between lightweights England’s Colin Fletcher (8-1) vs. North Ireland’s Norman Parke (16-...

The Ufc returns to Fox on Saturday with a main card that is sure to please. The main event sees Lightweight contenders Nate Diaz and Jim Miller squaring off with the winner likely to get a shot at the Ufc lightweight title. Elsewhere on the card Johny Hendricks faces perennial welterweight contender Josh Koscheck, Alan Belcher faces Jiu-Jitsu phenom Rousimar Palhares and heavyweights Pat Barry and Lavar Johnson square off.
Pat Barry v Lavar Johnson
The main card looks set to start with a bang. Barry, a vicious kickboxer, has 6 knockouts from his 7 wins while Johnson, a heavy handed brawler, has 14 knockouts from 16 wins. Both men like to stand and bang and this is undoubtedly a firm candidate for the Knockout of the Night honours. To put it simply someone is getting put to sleep. Blink and you might miss it.
Prediction: This one really could go either way but...
