Hardwired Trailer Will Blow Your Mind. Not Really.

9 September 2009 8:54 AM, PDT | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

Those with rich, rewarding lives may be unaware of the fact that both Val Kilmer and Cuba Gooding, Jr. have become the undisputed kings of the direct-to-video market, outranking both Steven Seagal and Jean-Claude Van Damme in terms of overall output. Kilmer’s face can be found on an unusually large number of new titles released over the past six months, with Cuba coming in at a very close second. It’s sad, really, especially considering these guys are capable of so much more. Truthfully, the only thing left for these two fallen stars to do is appear in the same movie together, perhaps a sci-fi yarn about a guy with a strange implant surgically grafted onto his brain. Lance Henriksen and Michael Ironside should definitely co-star. “Hardwired,” directed by “Cube Zero” mastermind Ernie Barbarash, valiantly attempts to harness the Dtv power of Val Kilmer and Cuba Gooding, Jr., though judging from the trailer, »

Aerosol

17 March 2009 6:56 AM, PDT | Latemag.com/film | See recent LateFilmFull news »

"When an ant appears on the factory belt, a worker's life changes forever."

A Worker is making aerosol cans on a Tayloresque factory floor.

The routine of his job is wrecked when an ant crawls into his machine. The game of cat and mouse, fueled by paranoia and hatred, begins and ultimately ends with the destruction of the machine that provides the Worker's livelihood.

The ant, feeling guilty, tries to help reconstruct the machine. From this moment, the Worker begins to realise that there is more to being human than his life to that point has lead him to believe.

Set in what appears to be a totalitarian, socialist, industrial retro-future; Aerosol is a very visually appealing short film. The set design is very reminiscent of Marc Caro and Jean-Pierre Jeunet's The City of Lost Children as well as later features such as Ernie Barbarash's horror sequel Cube Zero. »

Excl: The Birth of Peter Kwong's Hybrid

19 January 2009 | shocktillyoudrop.com | See recent shocktillyoudrop news »

Surveying the landscape of cinema, one has to wonder why man doesn't just stay the hell out of the water. "Shrinkage" from the cold temperatures aside, there's plenty to be afraid of. Who wants to take a dip when there are smart-ass sharks ( Jaws , Deep Blue Sea ), cranky mutant crustaceans ( Deep Star Six ), feisty fish ( Piranha , Finding Nemo ) and other unidentified creatures lurking in our oceans ( Leviathan , Deep Rising )? Beats us, but those suckers who choose to risk their lives at sea are repeatedly the subjects of some entertaining horror films. The latest is Hybrid , shooting this year under the direction of Ernie Barbarash ( Stir of Echoes 2 ) for Myriad Pictures and Studio 407. Not to be confused with the killer car movie of the same name , this beast... »

Vampires Attack Theater in 'The Night Projectionist'

1 January 2009 8:35 PM, PST | bloody-disgusting.com | See recent Bloody-Disgusting.com news »

Just a few weeks ago we told you that Ernie Barbarash (Cube Zero, They Wait) had been tapped to direct Hybrid, a comic adaptation that follows vacationing college students stalked by a mutant creature from the deep, for Studio 407 and Myraid Pictures. Today it was announced that they'll be reteaming once again with an adaptation of a new vampire horror film entitled The Night Projectionist. "Projectionist" marks the second title produced under Studio 407's first-look deal with Myriad -- the first being the comicbook "Hybrid," which is tentatively scheduled to begin production later this year. The story takes place on Halloween Eve in a small-town movie theater, where an all-night Draculathon draws throngs of moviegoers who suddenly find themselves locked inside the theater, which is slowly filling with vampires. »
