Real name: Prahlad Keshav Atre.
Received his higher education at University of Poona University of London.
Born August 13, 1898.
Was a principle at Secondary High School Teacher's Training College for 25 years.
Owned Chitra Mandir Studio, Bombay.
Winner of The President's Silver Medal in 1955 for best Marathi picture MAHATMA PHULE.
Turned several of his stage plays into films, although his Marathi films garnered better reviews then those he made in Hindi.
Established Atre Pictures and made the film VASANTSENA (1942).
Winner of The President's Gold Medal Award for SHYAMCHI AAI (1954).
