These Aging Losers Make Winning Combo

23 December 2008 11:21 PM, PST | NYPost.com | See recent New York Post news »

Slight but utterly charming, Joel Hop kins' "Last Chance Harvey" is a romantic dramedy showcasing two accomplished actors who rarely get to play lead roles anymore.

Dustin Hoffman and Emma Thompson - previously seen together supporting Will Ferrell in "Stranger Than Fiction" - play a pair of aging losers, Harvey and Kate.

They meet while Harvey, an American, is drowning his sorrows at a bar at a London airport where she works pestering travelers to answer survey questions (Harvey earlier blows her »

Last Chance Harvey

22 December 2008 6:00 AM, PST | Pastemagazine.com | See recent PasteMagazine news »

Release Date: Dec. 25 (limited)

Director/Writer: Joel Hopkins

Cinematographer: John de Borman

Starring: Dustin Hoffman, Emma Thompson, Eileen Atkins, James Brolin, Kathy Baker

Studio/Run Time: Overture Films, 99 mins.

Run-of-the-mill rom-com from top-shelf cast

With two Oscar-winning leads, Last Chance Harvey is the kind of movie you want to be great—with a capital G. It’s not just the talent of the stars that spurs this expectation, but their uncanny ability to choose excellent roles, even as co-stars (their previous joint effort being the quietly poignant Stranger Than Fiction), which is why Last Chance Harvey is ultimately disappointing. »

Golden Globes Noms

12 December 2008 1:14 PM, PST | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

Doubt, Frost/Nixon and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button were the top movies at the announcement of this year's Golden Globe nominations, each receiving five nods apiece.

Surprisingly, though, only two of those films -- Frost/Nixon and Benjamin Button -- were up for the Best Picture - Drama award, as Doubt was shut out of the category in favor of The Reader, Revolutionary Road, and Slumdog Millionaire, each of which nabbed four nominations. Doubt, however, received the most acting nominations of any film, as all four of its primary stars -- Meryl Streep, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Amy Adams and Viola Davis -- were recognized; the drama's fifth nomination was for Best Screenplay. Frost/Nixon and Benjamin Button received nominations in the exact same five categories: Best Picture - Drama, Best Actor (Frank Langella and Brad Pitt, respectively), Best Director, Best Screenplay, and Best Score.

The nominations for the 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards, covering both film and television, are in. There aren’t too many shocking surprises expect maybe The Wrestler and Milk not getting Best Picture noms. Tom Cruise, Robert Downey Jr. and James Franco all got nominated for their work in Tropic Thunder and Pineapple Express and I was glad to see In Bruges, one of the most underrated films of the year, get some love too. Best Picture (Drama) The Curious Case of Benjamin Button Frost/Nixon Revolutionary Road The Reader Slumdog Millionaire Best Picture (Comedy/Musical) Mamma Mia! Vicky Cristina Barcelona Burn After Reading Happy-Go-Lucky In Bruges Best Actor (Drama) Leonardo DiCaprio, Revolutionary Road Frank Langella, Frost/Nixon Sean Penn, Milk Brad Pitt, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button Mickey Rourke, The Wrestler Best Actress (Drama) Angelina Jolie, Changeling Anne Hathaway, Rachel Getting Married Meryl Streep, Doubt Kristin Scott Thomas, »

Golden Globe Nominations Announced, Heath Ledger Scores a Nod

11 December 2008 8:40 AM, PST | Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news »

As it was announced by Terrence Howard at the 66th Golden Globes Nominations ceremony on Thursday, December 11, late Australian actor Heath Ledger has earned a nomination for Best Performance By an Actor In a Supporting Role In a Motion Picture. He will compete against Tom Cruise and Robert Downey Jr. for their roles in war comedy "Tropic Thunder", Philip Seymour Hoffman in "Doubt" and Ralph Fiennes in "The Duchess".

Commenting on Ledger's nod, Terrence Howard said, "Heath was a friend of mine, he gave his all in that film ('The Dark Knight'). I think he will win in that category. He'll also get an Oscar."

In addition to Howard's comment, Heath Ledger's father, Kim, was also grateful for the count, telling People.com, "This nomination is deeply appreciated and is not lost on those of us who continue to love and miss him. We are so proud »

List of the 2009 Golden Globe Award Nominees

11 December 2008 6:16 AM, PST | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

Photo: Hollywood Foreign Press Association The Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced the nominees for the 2009 Golden Globes this morning and the complete list of Motion Picture nominees out of 184 live-action feature films (113 drama and 71 comedies or musicals) and 8 animated feature films is listed below. Looking over the surprises I would have to say The Reader getting in as a Best Picture (Drama) nominee while films such as The Dark Knight and Milk get snubbed is a major surprise. Michael Shannon not being nominated for Revolutionary Road while Tom Cruise gets a nod for his performance in Tropic Thunder caught me off guard and I am sure James Franco wasn't expecting a nomination for Pineapple Express as much as he was hoping for one from Milk, but I am sure he will take it either way. I am also assuming there will be a 50/50 discussion on whether or not Angelina Jolie »

3 December 2008 11:04 PM, PST | NYPost.com | See recent New York Post news »

Coming out this month is "Last Chance Harvey," starring Oscar win ners Dustin Hoffman and Emma Thompson with James Brolin and Eileen Atkins. So I asked if, when making a movie, Dustin has any special routine. He said:

"I live the same life every day. All the time. I go to bed 9 o'clock. Always wake up 4 in the morning, so I don't need an alarm clock. Make my own coffee, »
