Can the media alter the public's perception of an actor? I believe so - that's why we have the likes of Megan Fox hugging the headlines and getting the covers of men's magazines, while a lot of more talented young actresses could not even manage to get featured and have interviews. If you think about it, what has she done in the movies to deserve so much publicity and attention? - - -
- - - Some may argue, 'hey, don't blame her, she's just good at playing the Hollywood game, and she got a shrewd agent managing her career!'. That maybe so and yes, I agree when others say 'she'll not last another year - others will soon take over'. There are those who may say 'Agents and talent managers always take care of their wards - that's why stars have a public image and a private one'. »

She will be joined by Dame Eileen Atkins for the reboot. Thomas said of the revival: "I am both thrilled and humbled to have this opportunity. (more) »

Watchmen—Director’S Cut (Warner Bros.) Director Zack Snyder’s film of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ landmark graphic novel is as worthy an adaptation of a great book that has ever been filmed. In an alternative version of the year 1985, Richard Nixon is serving his third term as President and super heroes have been outlawed by a congressional act, in spite of the fact that two of the most high-profile “masks,” Dr. Manhattan (Billy Cruddup) and The Comedian (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) helped the U.S. win the Vietnam War. When The Comedian is found murdered, many former heroes become concerned that a conspiracy is afoot to assassinate retired costumed crime fighters. Former masks Nite Owl (Patrick Wilson), Silk Spectre (Malin Akerman) and still-operating Rorschach (Jackie Earle Haley, in an Oscar-worthy turn) launch an investigation of their own, all while the Pentagon’s “Doomsday »

If somebody asked what one thing was missing from the “Harry Potter” movies, how would you answer? Think about it for a minute. One thing, anything at all, that could have made each and every “Potter” flick a better movie. I know what it is.
Knives. A wall full of ‘em. Different shapes and sizes, all of them sharp, all of them deadly. “Harry Potter” may not have been a better place with so many cutting tools, but it would have been a whole lot cooler. Wondering what the hell I mean yet?
“Harry Potter” star Rupert Grint is in director Jonathan Lynn’s “Wild Target,” playing an assassin’s apprentice. If you’re wondering where the knives come in, keeping reading for a first glimpse of the film.
And there you have it. Rupert Grint and lots and lots of knives on a wall. Here’s the official synopsis for “Wild Target, »

Vanessa Redgrave has pulled out of Ridley Scott's new Robin Hood movie following the death of her daughter Natasha Richardson in a skiing accident in March.
The 72-year-old actress has been replaced by Dama Eileen Atkins, according to the Daily Mail, which has published some new pictures from the filming of the movie in Bourne Woods, Surrey.
The images - two of which are included here - show actors in 12th century clothing riding at speed on horses. It's part of a scene in which the Sheriff of Nottingham (played by Matthew MacFadyen) and his men storm a village.
Dame Eileen (pictured below right) said: "They keep rewriting the script and changing my lines quite dramatically, so I'm terrified of forgetting them."
She will star as Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine alongside Russell Crowe, who plays the Sherwood Forest hero: "He was brilliant in Gladiator", she said, "and he can »

It's the 12th century all over again as armor-clad knights ride into battle in the English countryside. Or so it appears from some new photos of the filming of Ridley Scott's Robin Hood in the Daily Mail.
The movie, originally titled Nottingham, has been undergoing extensive script revisions, and has had another significant cast change. Vanessa Redgrave, who had been slated to play Eleanor of Aquitaine, bowed out due to the tragic death of her daughter Natasha Richardson in March.
She has been replaced by Eileen Atkins, who told the Mail that she's had some adjusting to do because of dramatic changes in her lines, and difficulties overcoming a serious bird phobia. This is a bit of a problem because her role requires her to hold, and perhaps feed dead mice to, a large owl.
As for Russell Crowe, who stars as Robin Hood, a producer says:

I can't help it, but these photos are getting me into the medieval mood. Appearing in The Daily Mail (via SlashFilm) are a few new paparazzi spy shots from the set of Ridley Scott's Robin Hood showing some of the Sheriff of Notthingham's men in battle. They are currently shooting around England and have been since April. We already debuted the first photo of Russell Crowe as Robin Hood back in April, but these are the first new unofficial photos from the movie. Roughly 600 extras were cast to play the Sheriff's cronies. These aren't the best photos, but I'm starting to be reminded of Gladiator. Check out another full shot below! The newspaper also has a quote from Eileen Atkins, who recently replaced Vanessa Redgrave in the role of Eleanor of Aquitaine, talking about the constant script changes. "They keep rewriting the script and changing my lines quite dramatically, »

Grieving star Vanessa Redgrave has pulled out of forthcoming movie Robin Hood, giving up the role which would have been her first acting job since the tragic death of her daughter Natasha Richardson.
The actress signed on to star in Sir Ridley Scott's blockbuster, alongside Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett, just a week after Richardson died from a brain injury following a skiing accident in March.
The acting legend was set to tackle the role of Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine, mother of the folklore hero's nemesis Prince John, played by Oscar Isaacs.
But now it would appear Redgrave is not yet ready to return to work - Dame Eileen Atkins has confirmed she has accepted the part in the 2010 movie.
And Atkins admits she is "terrified" about the project.
She says, "They keep rewriting the script and changing my lines quite dramatically, so I'm terrified of forgetting them." »

Chicago – Most audiences missed one of the most charming romantic comedies of the last year during the holiday rush and the start of the new year. Joel Hopkins’ “Last Chance Harvey” isn’t perfect but it’s a surprisingly effective heart-tugger, anchored by fantastic performances from its Oscar-winning stars, Dustin Hoffman and Emma Thompson. Catch up on DVD.
DVD Rating: 3.5/5.0 “Last Chance Harvey” is a simple, gentle movie that doesn’t really do anything remarkable but features two performances so good that they will justify at least a rental for nearly any viewer and get them over the relatively generic screenplay. It’s an old-fashioned crowd-pleaser, a totally satisfying rental on a Saturday night.
Last Chance Harvey was released on DVD on May 5th, 2009.

We haven't heard any news regarding Rupert Grint's latest film Wild Target in a while, except that it is still in post-production. Well, here's a trace of hope that we'll be hearing more about it soon! Laura has discovered an article which suggests that the film, directed by Jonathan Lynn and starring Bill Nighy, Emily Blunt, Rupert Grint, Rupert Everett, Martin Freeman, Gregor Fisher and Eileen Atkins, will be "available for delivery" in July 2009! We suppose this means that editing will be finished and the movie will be put up for sale or distribution in less than four months. So hopefully we'll get the first Wild Target trailer around that time as well! We'll keep you updated of course. Source: Variety (and judging by the title of the article, it seems that Wild Target was promoted in Berlin at the European Film Market, where Cherrybomb was screened as well! »

Haunting film from Sweden is best described as The 400 Blows meets Nosferatu, and contains some of the most haunting imagery of any film in recent memory. Truly a unique and memorable work. First things first, big hugs and gratitude to my blog buddies Nick, Joe and Katey who agreed to return to the podcast after your requests for a reunion tour. Please follow those links to check out their home bases.
In the latest episode (53 minutes ~ we couldn't shut up) we discuss Kate Winslet's double win at the Globes, Slumdog fanaticism, our Oscar pipe dreams, the beauty of Brad Pitt, the dogs of Mickey Rourke, the assumed purpose and ultimate futility of Guild Awards and, because we're silly, a remake of A Streetcar Named Desire. "Stellaaaaaaaaaa!"
(Because it's a Globe/Oscar broadcast we're unusually star focused. Also name-checked: Salma Hayek, Penélope Cruz, Leonardo DiCaprio, Anne Hathaway, Gwyneth Paltrow,Frank Langella, Eileen Atkins, JLo, Tina Fey, Renée Zellweger and Sean Penn)
