Casting Call for Death Race Prequel Reveals Title, Return of Case

8 hours ago | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

The boys at SpoilerTV have gotten their hands on the casting call for Paul W.S. Anderson’s “Death Race” prequel, and on it is the full title for the direct-to-dvd sequel: “Death Race: Frankenstein Lives”. Tony Giglio is tasked with scripting the prequel, which will trace the origins of the Frankenstein character from the first movie. But what’s interesting? Apparently they’re also going to write the Case character back into the prequel. As you’ll recall, Case was Frankenstein’s original navigator in the original movie, and became Statham’s navigator after the original Frankenstein bites it in the film’s opening frame. Hot tamale model turned actress Natalie Martinez played Case in the original, and with the sequel already gearing up for production in 2010, I don’t see why she couldn’t return to play the role again. I could care less about discovering how Frankenstein got to be Frankenstein, »

Death Race Prequel Casting Lineup Gives Away The Plot

10 hours ago | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

We were reporting back in August that Paul W.S. Anderson, the mastermind behind 2008's schlocky Death Race, was planning a prequel for the film. Now Spoiler TV has gotten their hands on a casting call for the film, and oh yes, Death Race: Frankenstein Lives is totally on. Statham won't be part of it, but plenty of tricked-out cars crashing into each other should make up for that. Despite the title that suggests the mantle of Frankenstein passing on to someone else after the events of the first film, the lineup seems to indicate a prequel. One of the main female characters, a "model-turned-journalist," seems to be the early version of the Joan Allen character, a schemer who comes up with the Death Race "when ratings for her gladiator-style television show begin plummeting." Soon enough she targets Carl "Luke" Lucas as her potential star, a guy who is "handsome »

Death Race Prequel Character & Plot Details

10 hours ago | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

A little over three months ago we reported on the news that the mindlessly fun 2008 movie, Death Race, was going to be getting a sequel – or rather, as was reported at the time by Shock Till You Drop, a prequel that would lead up to the first Death Race and Jason Statham’s antics as top driver Jensen Ames.

And now, thanks to SpoilerTV we get some info on both what the plot and the characters will be , by way of casting call info. Nothing has changed in terms of it being a prequel, in fact this news is kind of a confirmation of that. It will indeed take place before the first film, this time being called Death Race: Frankenstein Lives (Frankenstein is the name of the top driver, Fyi, they’re not just trying to turn it into a horror movie for no reason…).

Excl: What Can We Expect from Death Race 2 ?

13 hours ago | shocktillyoudrop.com | See recent shocktillyoudrop news »

The death race continues at Universal who is prepping Death Race: Frankenstein Lives for the DVD market. Last week came the news, direct from Death Race producer Jeremy Bolt, that production will begin in 2010 and that casting has begun for the new Frankenstein (aka Carl Lucas in this prequel). It's "an origin film, in every sense," says writer Tony Giglio. "Not simply of the Death Race or Frankenstein, but of [characters] Lists and Case." In Paul Anderson's remake, Lists and Case were played by Frederick Koehler and Natalie Martinez (pictured), respectively. We hope she's back, too. "I also took painstaking efforts to make certain that this prequel organically sets up a lot of the stuff that was in the original. Frankenstein is a bad ass.... »

Death Race 2: Casting Now

14 hours ago | Screenrush | See recent Screenrush news »

Spoiler TV have got their hands on casting call details for the sequel to Paul W.S. Anderson's 2008 actioner Death Race which, lest you've forgot, starred Jason Statham as 'Frankenstein' - a prisoner on Terminal Island who is coerced to enter Death Race, a gladiator-like televised fight-to-the-death.

Anderson is set to producer the sequel, entitled Death Race: Franksenstein Lives and is searching for a handful of stars to take roles including Carl 'Luke' Lucas, an assertive, strong and charismatic convict, September Jones, a model turned 'insatiably ambitious and eye-poppingly gorgeous' journalist with the soul of an ice-pick, Elizabeth Jame Case, the sexy card girl for the fights and later a navigator in the driving stages who's teamed with Lucas...

A number of lesser roles require martial-arts skills so it looks like we can expect very much the same of the sequel as we had in the first, which was »

'Resident Evil' May See Fifth Film

20 hours ago | Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news »

While "Resident Evil: Afterlife" has yet to wrap its production in Canada, there are already talks about the follow-up to the fourth installment of the thriller movie franchise. Recently, producer Jeremy Bolt told Ryan Rotten from Shock Till You Drop, "If it does well enough obviously we'll do another one."

Moreover, Bolt admitted that he actually hopes to make the fourth film as the beginning of a new trilogy. "Yes, we are hoping [we can get the new characters seen in 'Afterlife' back], that would be a dream to have another three [films]," he said.

Supposedly "Resident Evil" is made into several new films, Bolt wants Paul W.S. Anderson to direct it or the studio will have to find another helmer on his level, although "it's tough" to find one with his skills. He then added, "But I hope that we can make a few more and his [Anderson's] creative brilliance is essential to that."

As for "Resident Evil: Afterlife", the shooting »

Fan Rant: Please Don't Let Paul W.S. Anderson Direct 'Metal Gear Solid'

23 hours ago | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

Dear Sony,

As I am sure you are aware, you own the film rights to any adaptation of Metal Gear Solid, the outstanding brainchild of video game auteur Hideo Kojima. I have no doubt that since the property became a gaming icon after Konami brought it to the Playstation in 1998 many have tried to get a film adaptation off the ground. I'm sure you've heard pitch after pitch, and maybe even solicited some of your own, so I appreciate that no ground has been made on turning the beloved series - arguably the most cinematic game of all time - toward the big screen.

Yet I fear that with a big budget adaptation of Prince of Persia on the horizon, you might start getting antsy about making a big budget video game movie of your own; and if that's the case, please do not take up Paul W.S. Anderson on »

The Other Paul Anderson Now Directing 'Castlevania'?

15 November 2009 1:06 AM, PST | GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news »

It's a real shame that Castlevania has become such a troubled production. It's a cool enough video game to make the transition to the big screen, but it could be on its third director in about 18 months.

At first, Sylvain White (Stomp the Yard) was attached to direct...and then the project kind of went away. Then earlier this year, original Saw director James Wan threw himself at the project with Paul W.S. Anderson producing. We wrote a little bit about that in July, with Wan saying, "I'll be working on the script with a writer to give it a new spin, different to the previous versions. This will have my stamp on it, which Konami is very excited about."

Or not. Shock Till You Drop quotes producer Jeremy Bolt as indicating that Anderson will be directing and he's waiting for yet another script. I wonder how much all this indecision has cost the producers. »

Start your engines: Prequel to ‘Death Race’ is greenlit

14 November 2009 1:19 PM, PST | ReelLoop.com | See recent Reel Loop news »

A prequel to Paul W.S. Anderson’s Death Race has been given the go-ahead by Universal Studios. Penned by Tony Giglio and based on the story from Anderson, the upcoming straight-to-dvd feature will delve into the back-story of the masked and mangled Frankenstein, who was original played by the late David Carradine in the 1975 original film Death Race 2000.

Carradine provided Frank’s voice in Anderson’s Death Race.

Death Race was a marginal hit that made $75 million worldwide.

Production on the loosely titled Death Race 2 will begin after Anderson completes Resident Evil: Afterlife. He will serve in a producing capacity.

No word on a cast or who will be helming the project. We don’t care. As long as Natalie Martinez is back.

Paul W.S. Anderson is hard at work on his next film, Resident Evil: Afterlife, but he.s also got some big plans for future films, most notably The Three Musketeers 3D. Omelete is reporting in from the Resident Evil set with details on the 3D adaptation of Alexandre Dumas. classic novel straight from Anderson himself. Anderson said he.ll reteam with Resident Evil producer Jeremy Bolt and be working with an $80 million budget. That might sound like a lot, but it.s not enough to shoot the entire film in 3D. They might have to resort to 2D when it comes to capturing horse racing chases and convert them to 3D in postproduction. Anderson plans to keep Athos, Porthos, Aramis and D.Artagnan in the 18th century but give the story a contemporary feel with a heavy dose of action and romance. It.ll be .a new telling. of ... »

We not only learned he was going to shoot the sequel in 3-D, but the story was to begin a new story arc to carry on a new trilogy. Reports elsewhere claimed it was going to "reboot" the series, but producer Jeremy Bolt doesn't think that's the right word to use. 'The Three Musketeers' Begins Casting, Starts Production in 2010

13 November 2009 11:18 PM, PST | Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news »

Since Paul W.S. Anderson announced in September that he was developing "The Three Musketeers", a 3D adaptation of Alexander Dumas' novel with the same title, the filmmaker has made some progress with the upcoming movie project. Being interviewed by Steve Weintraub from Omelete on the set of his next film "Resident Evil: Afterlife", the helmer has given some updates about the status of the adventure film.

Anderson claimed they have begun selection of the cast members at this moment, while the production will be kicked off in September 2010. Teaming up with producer Jeremy Bolt, he will make the film with around 80 million dollars budget.

With such amount of money, it is more likely that the film is shot in 2D and then converted into 3D, particularly for the chase scenes on horseback. As for the storyline, Anderson promised it will be a more contemporary style, with lots of action and very novel, »

There's a lot of cool stuff in there. Roger (Avary) has some awesome ideas and hopefully we're going to bring that to fruition sometime next year," Jones revealed. There's also another new update on Anderson's The Three Musteketeers 3D as well. In regards to Silent Hill 2, our last update was in September, which is when we reported that writer Roger Avary and producer Samuel Hadida would both be back in their original roles. Producer Confirms that Death Race 2 Will Start its Engines Next Year

13 November 2009 9:34 AM, PST | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

Cause you demanded it, Universal has greenlit a sequel to Paul W.S. Anderson’s “Death Race” remake. Made for $45 million, the middling film (like all of Anderson’s films, “Death Race” wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great, either) grossed $75 million worldwide, and in Hollywood that means sequel. Or actually, prequel in this case. The movie will focus on the man known as Frankenstein, the mask-wearing driver from the first movie who was killed and replaced by Jason Statham’s character. Gee, I hope I didn’t give anything away. Those things only happened in the first 20 minutes of “Death Race”, after all. Also, producer Jeremy Bolt (Anderson’s long-time partner in crime) has confirmed to Styd that production on the prequel will commence as early as next year, with the producers now casting the role of Frankenstein. Obviously Statham won’t be returning, and in any case, it »

Paul W.S. Anderson Returning to 'Castlevania'?

Odd news from the set of Resident Evil: Afterlife as Bloody Disgusting's Mike Pereira sent in a small news bite that has me scratching my head. Resident Evil producer Jeremy Bolt tells press that writer/director/producer Paul W.S. Anderson is once again circling Castlevania, along with the feature film adaptation of Metal Gear Solid. Why so odd? This past July Saw co-creator James Wan was attached to the project that would bring Simon Belmont to the big screen to battle Dracula and other ghouls. We'll see if we can't get word from Wan. Personally, I'll cry if Anderson goes back to this project. »
