Zeke Smith didn't win the title of Sole Survivor, but he has perhaps walked away with something more valuable.
The two-time player was outed as transgender three weeks ago by fellow Survivor: Game Changers contestant Jeff Varner, who used Smith being trans as an example of his deception -- in a backwards attempt to save himself from elimination.

"There is deception here. Deceptions on levels, Jeff [Probst], that these guys don't even understand," Varner said, looking at Smith. "Why haven't you told anyone that you're transgender?"
Varner was promptly eliminated, though the media wasn't so keen to just snuff his torch and move on. In the weeks that followed, both Varner and Smith gave numerous interviews on the topic, starting a conversation about outing, transgender visibility in the media and even whether CBS was right to have aired the footage.

On Wednesday night, millions of fans watched as Jeff Varner outed his fellow Survivor contestant Zeke Smith as transgender — an emotional, shocking moment that left viewers reeling.
So how did Smith himself prepare for his gender identity to be exposed on national television? The 29-year-old Brooklyn-based asset manager worked closely with Nick Adams, director of GLAAD’s Transgender Media Program, for months leading up to the episode airing.
“What GLAAD does is we work with transgender people who either choose to be in the public eye and tell their story, or who get thrust into the public eye in a...

Wednesday night’s Survivor sent fans into a frenzy after Jeff Varner outed his fellow contestant Zeke Smith as transgender — but a lot of time and preparation went into the episode.
As it turns out, CBS worked with GLAAD, a media organization founded by Lgbt people in the media, in the months leading up to the episode airing.
According to the organization, GLAAD’s Transgender Media Program worked with both Smith and CBS “for several months to ensure that when the episode aired Zeke would have the opportunity to speak for himself about his experience.”

Survivor might have just seen the biggest — and most unforgivable — blindside of all.
Contestant Jeff Varner outed his tribemate Zeke Smith as transgender during a heated Tribal Council in Wednesday’s episode of the CBS reality show. And what’s more, Varner used that revelation to label Smith as “deceitful” in an attempt to get Smith voted off instead of himself. After his tribe rebuked him for outing Smith on national TV like that, Varner defended himself by saying he did it “to show the deception… it reveals the ability to deceive.” After a long debate, host Jeff Probst finally said,...

In response to the news of the massacre in Orlando, Florida in the early hours of Sunday morning, organizers of the Tony Awards announced that tonight’s ceremony will be dedicated to the victims of the shooting. In what is being called the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history, 50 were killed and at least 53 were injured at Orlando’s Pulse nightclub. The Tony Awards Twitter account issued this statement: “Our hearts are heavy for the unimaginable tragedy that happened last night in Orlando. Our thoughts are with the families and friends of those affected. The Tony Awards dedicate tonight’s ceremony to them.” The Pulse nightclub is frequented by members of the Lgbt community, and the shooting occurred when people across the country were celebrating Lgbt Pride Month with events this weekend. The Tony Awards and the larger theater community have long had close ties to the Lgbt community. Tony winners have thanked same-sex partners in their acceptance speeches for years, long before gay marriage was legalized. Kisses between gay couples onstage have shown the level of acceptance felt inside Radio City Music Hall. Out gay entertainers have hosted several Tony telecasts, including Alan Cumming, Sean Hayes, and Neil Patrick Harris. Tonight’s ceremony, the 70th Annual Tony Awards, will be hosted by James Corden, broadcast from 8 to 11 p.m. live Et and delayed Pt on CBS. Hamilton, with a record-breaking 16 nominations, is expected to be a big winner. It's no surprise that summer tends to bring out the hottest guys in New York. And as the dog days of summer start to wane on the streets of the Big Apple, it's time to once again turn our attention to where the hottest of the hot like to spend their time: the New York stage.
Sure, movies and television have their share of rippling abs, but glimpsing a hottie on the screen is nothing compared to the live, in-the-flesh experience. So without further ado, we present the Hottest Guys of New York Theater!
Cesar Abreu
Ricky Martin isn't the only sexy stud to come to us via the pop group Menudo - we can thank our lucky stars we also get the stunning, studly Cesar Abreu. Currently dancing for the Metropolitan Opera, Cesar has also, unsurprisingly, been featured many times in the annual stripfest Broadway Bares.

You Have No Idea How I Suffer For My, Um, Art
If there is any task I truly hate as the editor of AfterElton.com, it's having to deal with the Hot 100 every year. The sheer torture of having to check each and every one of your Hot 100 comments for the photos of hot guys you have posted is excruciating.
I can't tell you how much I dread having to— ooh, someone just a posted a new picture of Eddie Cibrian! And check out that one of Sendhil Ramamurthy! Smokin'!
Cibrian is Spanish for "sex on a stick"
Um, where was I? Anyway, I was going to share my Hot 100 pics this week, but it occurs to me that you guys are probably sick of hot guys by this point. In fact, I can sense you are hungering for something more intellectual, so today's column is devoted to a discussion of quantum mechanics.

So Just Where Do You Draw The Line?
Here is an interesting question for you: as gay people where do we draw the line when it comes to spending our hard earned dollars on movies, books, plays and or music that in some way might benefit a person or business who doesn't have our best interests at heart?
Eminem, Mel Gibson
This is a question most of us face at some point whether it's deciding if you want to download that new Eminem song that is so great despite his past comments about gay people. Or whether you should shell out ten bucks to see that new Mel Gibson flick your brother wants to see even though Gibson supports the far right wing of the Catholic Church, not to mention the awful and historically inaccurate portrayal of Edward II he gave us in Braveheart, as well as the ugly murder...

The Smurfs just got gayer. While we knew Neil Patrick Harris was playing the main human, we now discover out actor Alan Cumming is going to voice Gutsy Smurf. Sorry, boss, you’re going to be giving a lot of attention to this movie. Jonathan Winters will be reprising his role as Papa Smurf.
I’m just as outraged as Joe.My.God is that at least two newspapers knew anti-gay California state senator Roy Ashburn was gay and decided it wasn’t news while the man was voting against gay rights. The Fourth Estate is crumbling into irrelevancy all around us.
It turns out male voices are much more difficult for computers to understand than female voices, which explains why I can never check the balance on my credit card with those voice recognition systems. It probably doesn’t help that men are much more likely to add “errr...

I saw this article and I was instantly an 8-year-old child with a stuffed animal again. The reclusive Bill Watterson, creator of Calvin & Hobbes, gave his first interview since 1989. Mom always called me Calvin and said I was Calvin before there was a Calvin. If we’re lucky, we all are.
I missed this Chicago Free Press interview with Michael Cudlitz about Southland. That’s a shame, because he made a point to bring out the significance of the character to Glbt folks as he was talking. It’s a shame this bearish guy is straight in real life, because I want to cuddle with him.
You can’t make up fun stuff like this folks because if you did, nobody would believe you. Sarah Palin’s Political Action Committee spent more money buying Sarah Palin’s own book in the last six months than it did in...

File this one under "Thanks for nothing, Shrub." That would be the really bulging file I keep on my desk. So what's the issue?
This week Huffington Post blogger Ryan Grim reported that a new book coming out about President George Bush includes the fact that Bush declined to denounce same-sex marriage in his commencement speech at Furman University in 2008 because he wasn't "...going to tell some gay kid in the audience that he can't get married."
No, he was just going to get elected by demonizing the gay kid, and every other 'mo in the country, by allowing henchman Karl Rove to orchestrate two of the most anti-gay presidential campaigns ever run in the U.S. Two campaigns the fueled a wave of constitutional amendments banning same-sex marriage across America.
But, hey, Bush wouldn't actually deliver the bad news to the gay college kid himself because he's such a stand up guy.
