Transformers 3 Will Not Be Written By Orci & Kurtzman [Updated]

12 October 2009 4:08 PM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

[Update: It's Confirmed: Orci and Kurtzman are Not writing Transformers 3]

On Tuesday, word spread online that the writers for Transformers and its sequel Revenge of the Fallen, Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, would not be writing the third installment in the franchise.

The information originated from the Don Murphy forums were Orci participates regularly and it was here where the writer revealed that he and his partner are done with Transformers.

“Time for fresh blood!” writes Orci. “The main reason we would move on is because we risk getting stale and comfortable. If you only sing one song for too long, you miss the opportunity to sing news songs. We’ll see.”

While I enjoyed Transformers upon second viewing (the first time all I came out with was thoughts of the negative parts), my personal belief is that the main weakness of Transformers was its screenplay and that so many of its problems would have been rectified by different writing decisions. »

Orci and Kurtzman Not Returning To Write Transformers 3

7 October 2009 2:00 PM, PDT | Filmofilia | See recent Filmofilia news »

Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman (The Island, The Legend of Zorro, Mission: Impossible III), after writing the first two, will not be returning to the script duties for “Transformers 3.”

Orci made a post on the Don Murphy forum saying he and Kurtzman won’t be involved with the third film. That means that Ehren Kruger (Scream 3, The Ring, The Ring Two, The Brothers Grimm), who also worked on the Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen script, will be going it alone on part three, laboring under the iron fist of director Michael Bay.

Orci wrote,

“He (Ehren Kruger) really did his homework. He’s awesome.”

Director Michael Bay recently confirmed that plans were in motion for a Transformers 3 and that he and actress Megan Fox would be returning.

Ehren Kruger is Sole Writer For "Transformers 3"

7 October 2009 8:13 AM, PDT | Reel Empire | See recent Reel Empire news »

Robert Orci and Alex Kurtzman, the dynamic duo who wrote the original "Transfomers", had a little help penning the sequel from a writer who loves the twist endings.  This is of course referring to Ehren Kruger who's resume consists of films like "Scream 3", "Arlington Road" and "The Skeleton Key".  If you remember, Michael Bay confirmed on his official website that Kruger would be returning to write the third film, but he failed to mention Orci and Kurtzman in his announcement.  Turns out, Orici is a frequent contributor on the message board of producer Don Murphy and he announced today that neither he nor Kurtzman would be involved in the script for "Transformers 3".  I'm not sure if this is good news or bad news.  It's not like the script for the second installment was gold.  Anyway, we'll keep you posted. »

Orci and Kurtzman Are Done with Transformers

7 October 2009 1:32 AM, PDT | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

There will be no Transformers in the future for Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, the the writing team behind both Transformers films. The news was dropped on producer Don Murphy's website yesterday when a forum poster asked Orci if it was true that the writing duo would not return for another round of Transformers. Orci responded simply, "It's true."

Orci said that writer Ehren Kruger, who assisted with the script for Revenge of the Fallen, would be handling writing duties on the sequel. When asked if Kruger knew enough about Transformers to handle the writing duties alone, Orci commented:

He does. He really did his homework. He's awesome.

Orci also addressed the humor in Revenge of the Fallen. A forum poster commented that some parents didn't even want to take their kids to see the film because of the humor and Orci responded:

I can’t blame them.

'Transformers 3' Loses Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman

6 October 2009 7:31 PM, PDT | Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news »

Although they have been involved right from the beginning with the writing of 2007's "Transformers", Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman will not be returning to the script duties for "Transformers 3". Orci himself has confirmed his and Kurtzman's exit through a post on producer Don Murphy's forum.

"It's true," Orci wrote simply in response to a question about the truth behind speculation that the two writers are out. In further post, the co-writer of 2009's "Star Trek" assured that scribe Ehren Kruger, who worked together with him and Kurtzman in penning "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen", knows what to do for the third movie. He wrote, "He really did his homework. He's awesome."

In late March, Orci has suggested the possibility of him and Kurtzman not returning to do the third film. "Time for fresh blood!" he wrote also on Murphy's forum. "The main reason we would move on »

Transformers 2 Writers Out For Transformers 3

6 October 2009 3:16 PM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Though the dynamic writing duo Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman wrote the first Transformers, for the second one they had a little extra help from Ehren Kruger. Before getting a job on Revenge of the Fallen, Kruger was mostly known for horrible movies like The Skeleton Key and Scream 3. Alright he did have a hand in Blood and Chocolate, but that.s the lone, shame-free spot on his resume. Unfortunately for the third Transformers film it looks like it.ll be all Kruger, whom Bay confirmed on his official site he.ll soon be collaborating with to talk about new characters. There.s a reason Kurtzman and Orci weren.t mentioned. Roberto is a frequent contributor on the message board of Transformers producer Don Murphy and today he dropped the news that neither he, nor Kurtzman will have any involvement in Transformers 3. That doesn.t mean, however, that »

Kurtzman and Orci Definitely Not Returning for Transformers 3; Script Duties Are All Ehren Kruger’s

6 October 2009 12:00 PM, PDT | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

Producer Don Murphy maintains a pretty lively website and forum that was crashed for a bit this morning when Roberto Orci confirmed in a forum post that he and Alex Kurtzman would not return at all for Transformers 3, leaving script duties entirely in the hands of Ehren Kruger. (Well, not entirely, as Michael Bay will have his input.) This is no surprise to anyone who's been following along over the past couple months. One poster asked today if 'Bob and Alex' really weren't returning for the next film, to which Orci responded "It's true." Back in March, Orci had intimated, also on Murphy's forum, that the pair would not return to write the third Transformers film. "Time for fresh blood!" Orci said . Deadman finds a Danish director

1 September 2009 12:02 AM, PDT | Corona's Coming Attractions | See recent Corona's Coming Attractions news »

Nikolaj Arcel has attached himself to direct Deadman, a live action adaptation of the spectral DC Comics character. The Danish filmmaker, who has a list of credits on IMDb that I couldn't pronounce to save my life, is new blood injected into the project that might get it moved out of development hell.

Guillermo del Toro remains involved in the Deadman movie as a producer along with Don Murphy (League of Extraordinary Gentleman, Transformers) and Susan Montford. Del Toro hitched his trailer to the project three years ago as a possible directing vehicle for him, but now that he's working on two back-to-back Hobbit movies, he's only going to produce Deadman. Don't get too excited about it yet; there's still no screenwriter working on a Deadman script.

Warner Bros Finds Its Deadman Director

1 September 2009 12:01 AM, PDT | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

It’s been three years since Warner Bros. first started developing the little-known DC comic-book, Deadman, for the big screen, with a view to installing producer Guillermo del Toro (pictured) as director.A lot’s happened in those three years, though – namely, The Hobbit – and with del Toro unavailable to direct, the search began for a new director to bring to life the tale of a murdered circus acrobat who is reborn with the power to possess the living.Well, that search is now over, for it has yielded Danish director, Nikolaj Arcel.Last seen as script consultant on Lars von Trier’s Tookey-baiting Antichrist, Arcel’s track record shows why he was hired for the Deadman gig: his acclaimed 2007 film, Island Of Lost Souls, also revolves around possession of the living, and dark, supernatural forces. Still, we detect the hand of the cine-literate del Toro, who remains on board »

Danish Director will do 'Deadman'

It’s been three years since Guillermo del Toro was attached to adapt 'Deadman', DC Comics’ undead superhero. While it no longer looks like he’ll be helming it, the Hellboy and Pan’s Labyrinth director may still be in-line to produce, with a top Danish filmmaker stationed behind the camera.

According to Variety, Nikolaj Arcel is in discussions to direct Deadman for Warner Brothers, del Toro, and Angry FilmsDon Murphy and Susan Montford. His previous credits include the fantasy adventure Island of Lost Souls, about a suburban teenager caught up in the battle between good and evil forces, one of which is an 18th-century magician. Released in 2007, it was one of the highest-grossing movies in Denmark that year.

James Robert Smith's 'The Flock' Takes Flight

I believe what you are about to read might be the first movie deal to spring out of an online flame war. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Don Murphy and John Wells are teaming up to produce James Robert Smith's debut novel, The Flock ... but how they found the novel might just be worth a movie on its own.

You see, Murphy -- who's always been a huge fan of Cinematical -- was alerted to a mean comment on Eddie Campbell's blog. Alan Moore fans know Campbell as the artist on Moore's Jack the Ripper epic, From Hell. Smith was posting comments that were critical of the film adaptation, and Murphy tracked him down and discovered he had written a book called The Flock. He ordered a copy, expecting to hate it and trash it, and decided to buy its rights instead. That's the Internet for you, people. »
