Release Date: July 16, 2010

My Thoughts: The legacy of Nic Cage’s haircuts is going to continue with this movie, which has the Cagemaster looking grayed and shaggy (or homeless). This style kind of brings me back to Bangkok Dangerous, a place I don’t want to revisit. His delivery of his few lines in this trailer don’t give me much hope. Listen to how he says “You are going to be a source for good, and a very important sorcerer.” It’s not gravelly enough to distance itself from just being Nic Cage with a magic wand. It’s also not very convincing. Consider his goofy tone with his goofy look, and you’ve got a skeptical situation. One of his more laughable performances? I really hope not. »

While most fans of classic cartoons think of Mickey Mouse and a bunch of dancing brooms when we hear “Sorcerer’s Apprentice”, it’s also the name of an upcoming Jon Turteltaub film based on the cartoon, starring Nic Cage.
The original cartoon is about Mickey Mouse, an apprentice to a great Sorcerer, who is meant to only clean up the wizard’s lair when he is done “magicing”. When left alone, Mickey decides to play with his own magic and have to room clean up itself. How Bruckheimer and Turteltaub were able to turn this into a 90-minute action comedy about New York City, is astounding.
The film stars Nic Cage as the Sorcerer, Jay Baruchel (Tropic Thunder) plays the reluctant apprentice, and Alfred Molina steps in as the evil sorcerer. The trailer makes the film look like a paid ad for New York City and computer rendering software, »

Hollywood's wig master Nicolas Cage is back in action in Jon Turteltaub's upcoming action comedy "The Sorcerer’s Apprentice," which Walt Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer are releasing July 16, 2010.
A first trailer for the film has debuted online, and you can see it below. It looks like we're in for plenty of big visual effects, silly action and a crazy Cage as a sorcerer. Luckily, his hair doesn't look that awful.
Cage plays Balthazar Blake, a freaky sorcerer who recruits average guy Dave Stutler (Jay Baruchel) to help him fight in his big battle against his ruthless arch-nemesis, Maxim Horvath (Alfred Molina). »

Just because The Sorcerer's Apprentice doesn't premiere until next July, doesn't mean it's too early to release a trailer for the new Disney film, right? Err, right. Well, either way the trailer's out and it's out first look at Nicolas Cage as a slightly crazed, New-York-based sorcerer. As you can see in the video below, director Jon Turteltaub has turned the original Sorcerer's Apprentice -- the Fantasia vignette starring Mickey Mouse -- into a live-action fare that's full of adventure, close calls, and CGI. And though the plot does fall back on the ol' chosen-one plotline when Cage selects his new apprentice (Jay Baruchel) there's still enough in the trailer to suggest that a fun summer film is on its way. Plus, it's Nic Cage being slightly crazy with slightly crazier hair. What's not to love about that? Update: The following stills from the movie were also released today. Source: »

To this point, the new take on The Sorcerer's Apprentice has mostly been known for the stunts that went wrong and Nic Cage's shaggy 'do. But now the the first proper trailer has arrived, and we can get a look at the action-stuffed take on a story that Disney last tackled with Mickey Mouse in Fantasia. Our hero is Balthazar Blake (Cage) a magician with serious power, who is trying defend New York (and the rest of the world) from the evil Horvath (Alfred Molina). To help, he recruits young Dave Stutler (Jay Baruchel of Knocked Up and Tropic Thunder), who he believes has the capacity to become just as adept in the ways of sorcery. Cue hefty set-pieces, CG creatures of all sorts of sizes and Baruchel looking wide-eyed at it all while Cage ladles on the twinkly madcap charm he brings to the films he makes with Jon Turteltaub »

Disney has dropped the first trailer for the Jerry Bruckheimer produced and Jon Turteltaub directed The Sorcerer's Apprentice reimagining feature film.
The trailer gives us a first look at Nicolas Cage as the sorcerer putting his magic to work and the car chase sequence that resulted in a stunt gone awry leaving two bystanders injured. There is a lot of magic being used in Manhattan out in plain sight so either the story relies on a heavy dose of suspending disbelief or magic is coming out of the closet.
Along with the trailer comes an official synopsis: The Sorcerer's Apprentice is an innovative and epic comedy adventure about a sorcerer and his hapless apprentice who are swept into the center of an ancient conflict between good and evil. I have to admit, this trailer for “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” is a lot cooler than I thought it would be. Then again, it could just be the melding of techno music with all that sorcery happening onscreen. Nicolas Cage actually looks decent in the role, but there’s one thing the movie misses out on — it neglects to show us the va-va-vooming Monica Bellucci, who co-stars in the movie. Really, guys, when you have someone as gorgeous as Monica Bellucci in your movie, what are you doing Not showing her? For shame, for shame.
