"Enter The Dragon" may be one of the best martial arts films of all time, but the Bruce Lee-led project didn't exactly come together easily. Over 50 years after its release, the lore surrounding the movie's fraught creation is by now stacked higher than a pile of guys taken down by super-skilled fighter Lee (played by the late actor with the same last name). Among the anecdotes surrounding its production? Behind-the-scenes fights, recasts, a minuscule budget, script problems, and more.
"The whole budget was $450,000," associate producer Andre Morgan told the BBC last year, paring down the already shockingly small $850,000 number that's commonly cited. Morgan was confident in his number, saying, "Remember, you heard it from somebody that was there. I prepared the budget; I signed the budget." The shoestring budget didn't get in the way of the movie's success; in theaters, it earned over $100 million worldwide according to the BBC piece,...

How do you survive when the two most important men in your life die at a tragically young age? The daughter of martial arts hero Bruce Lee describes what kept her going – and how she is preserving the family legacy
Shannon Lee is cheerfully recounting the time she went to a darkness retreat in Oregon. For four days, she stayed in an underground cabin in the woods, so dark she couldn’t see her own hands. Most people would find this terrifying. But for Lee, it was liberating, she says. “All you have are your thoughts and feelings, and they start to bubble up. So you get to look at a lot of things and it can be uncomfortable. I came out very energised.”

Well, this one's a true shocker.
Max has made the shocking decision to cancel Warrior.
The decision comes months after Warrior Season 3 wrapped on the streaming service.
Max rarely releases viewership statistics like many other streaming services, so it's difficult to assess how well the show performed.
The only good news to come from the cancellation is that Netflix has picked up the rights to past episodes of the series.
Deadline first reported the news, revealing that the show is set to hit Netflix in February 2024.
If the show proves to be a success with the service's subscribers, it could lead to additional seasons being produced.
Netflix has picked up many canceled shows in the past, including Cobra Kai, Longmire, and Manifest, so the company could be seen as a decent destination to get fresh episodes.
If the series does secure a reprieve at Netflix, it would mark its third U.

Sad news for fans of Warrior, as the action-packed Max series has been canceled after three seasons.
The series was based on an original concept by Bruce Lee and stars Andrew Koji as Ah Sahm, a martial arts prodigy who emigrates from China to San Francisco under mysterious circumstances and becomes a hatchet man for one of Chinatown’s most powerful crime families. The first two seasons of Warrior aired on Cinemax, but when the series was renewed for a third season, it was announced that it would move to Max.
While Warrior will continue to stream on Max for the time being, it will have an additional home next year. Netflix picked up the non-exclusive rights to all three seasons of Warrior, with the series expected to debut in February 2024. Deadline reports that if the series does well, Netflix could potentially revive it. However, the cast has been released from their contracts,...

The revival of Warrior at Max turned out to be short-lived: The Warner Bros. Discovery streamer has canceled the show after its first season as a Max original and third overall.
That said, the series — based on writings by Bruce Lee and set in 19th century San Francisco — will potentially get in front of more viewers beginning in February 2024 as all three seasons will stream on Netflix. Warrior will continue to be available on Max as well, similar to other non-exclusive streaming licensing deals Wbd has made with Netflix for HBO shows like Six Feet Under, Band of Brothers and Ballers.
Warrior began life as a Cinemax original series, premiering in 2019 to strong reviews. It was renewed for a second season that aired in fall 2020 — but by that time, Cinemax had wound down its originals business. The streamer then known as HBO Max revived it for a third season in...

Max’s “Warrior,” a breakthrough series boasting one of the few Asian ensembles on television, has been canceled after three seasons. The series’ repeats will live on, however, via a off-net deal with Netflix, which has acquired the series’ run in a non-exclusive deal and could now potentially expose it to a new audience. (The show will also continue to be available on Max.)
“Warrior” returned for its third season in June after a two-year hiatus. The show originally ran on linear cabler Cinemax (starting in 2019), and was revived after a fan base campaign. Andrew Koji, Olivia Cheng, Jason Tobin, Dianne Doan, Kieran Bew, Dean Jagger, Tom Weston-Jones, Hoon Lee, Perry Yung, Langley Kirkwood, Miranda Raison, Chen Tang, Chelsea Muirhead, Mark Dacascos and Joe Taslim star.
Shannon Lee is among the executive producers on “Warrior,” which was based on a concept by her father, Bruce Lee. Per the logline, “‘Warrior...

Warrior won’t be returning for a fourth season on Max.
However, the existing three seasons of the martial arts crime drama are set to find additional audiences as Netflix has picked up the series’ library in a co-exclusive deal with Max in Warner Bros. Discovery streamer’s markets.
Warrior is expected to debut on Netflix in February 2024. If it does well, Netflix could presumably order a new season of the drama based on an original concept and treatment by Bruce Lee, sources tell Deadline exclusively.
This latest move sets Warrior in its third home in as many years. The series premiered in 2019 on Cinemax where it ran for two seasons before it was announced in early 2020 that the network was moving out of the Originals business. Wbd sibling Max picked up the show for a third season in Spring of 2021 which premiered this summer with the season concluding on...

Shannon Lee, daughter of the legendary actor and martial artist Bruce Lee, recently told The Telegraph that she remains unaware why Quentin Tarantino decided to portray her father as “the a-hole” in his 2019 movie “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.” Shannon Lee spoke out against the film’s portrayal of Bruce Lee at the time, which led to a highly-publicized back and forth between her and Tarantino in many interviews.
“It’s interesting. I actually don’t know,” Shannon says now about the reasoning behind Tarantino’s controversial portrayal of Bruce Lee. “I’ve never met [Tarantino]. I don’t know what his issues are with my father. Clearly, he thinks my father is cool, because he has borrowed from him quite a bit. But at the same time, I think he has been told a lot of stories by people who have encountered my father and had a negative reaction.

Some people say imitation is the highest form of flattery, but what if the offspring of a deceased legend is uncomfortable with how their parent is represented by those intending to honor the dead? Shannon Lee, the daughter of martial arts legend Bruce Lee and sister of The Crow actor Brandon Lee, is opening up about the dearly departed and how their legacy continues through cult classics and high-profile director’s passion projects. Speaking with the U.K.-based news outlet The Telegraph, Shannon says she could use some clarification on Quentin Tarantino’s use of her father’s legacy.

The greatest tragedy of Bruce Lee’s all too short life was that he didn’t live to see the premiere of Enter the Dragon. Lee died on July 20, 1973. Enter the Dragon was released six days later.
Four years prior, Lee made a vow to himself that he titled “My Definite Chief Aim.” Handwritten in cursive with his characteristic flair, he wrote “I, Bruce Lee, will be the first highest paid Oriental super star in the United States. I will give the most exciting performances and render the best of quality in the capacity of an actor.” Throughout his career in Hollywood, Lee struggled to make his way, fighting against prejudice and exclusion at every step, in hopes of reaching his goal. And yet he never lived to see the breakthrough success of his masterpiece.

This article contains spoilers for Warrior season 3 episode 6.
When it comes to Bruce Lee Easter eggs, Warrior has been cunningly hiding them in plain sight.
From the first season, there were nods like the tong man named Bolo (Rich Ting), a reference to Bolo Yeung who played the villainous killer with the Herculean physique (also named Bolo) in Enter the Dragon. Similar acknowledgements permeate the series, all the way to season three where one of the locations is an ice factory, just like the setting of The Big Boss. When the lead character Ah Sahm strips down to a white wife-beater T-shirt, it evokes Bruce Lee’s bicep revealing attire in The Way of the Dragon. Keen-eyed fans of fight choreography spot quick references to Lee’s timeless action scenes. Some Warrior fight sequences contain sequences that lift directly from Lee’s films, reimagined to fit in the series. The...

“To hell with circumstances. I create opportunities.” Bruce Lee
Max’s Warrior began as an eight-page TV treatment by Bruce Lee which was completely rejected by the networks. Nearly a half-century later, Shannon Lee revitalized her father’s idea for development by Cinemax and enlisted noted director Justin Lin and screenwriter Jonathan Tropper to create the pilot. In 2019 Cinemax picked up Warrior for one season and its freshman outing won many accolades for its inclusivity and representation, coupled with kick ass action. Warrior was hailed as a rare homegrown tentpole series for Cinemax and got renewed for a second season.
But then in early 2020, Cinemax announced it would no longer commission original shows due to the switch to new streaming platform, HBO Max. Season two was already in the can so it was televised in late 2020. But when Director Justin Lin asked about the possibility of a third season, HBO Max...

Max has released the first trailer for Warrior season 3, the action-packed drama series based on the writings of Bruce Lee.
I can’t say I know many people who watched Warrior, but you are missing one of the best action series out there. Despite my love of the series, I’ll admit to forgetting that Warrior was even returning for another season. Part of that might have to do with how long it’s been since the last season of the series. The series stars Andrew Koji as Ah Sahm, a martial arts prodigy who emigrates from China to San Francisco under mysterious circumstances and becomes a hatchet man for one of Chinatown’s most powerful crime families. John Wick: Chapter 4 is finally giving Donnie Yen some immense exposure in the U.S. The martial arts cinema legend is nearing 60 years old and has been in the business since the 80s. He has previously been seen in American productions such as Blade II, Shanghai Knights, XXX: The Return of Xander Cage, and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. However, John Wick is the first time he’s been given a significant supporting character role as Caine, the blind assassin who is tasked to hunt down the titular character. Audiences are pretty unanimous in thinking that Yen steals the movie, and the Ip Man star speaks with Variety on where Caine might go from here.
If you’ve already seen Chapter 4, you’ve witnessed the glory that is Yen. He hasn’t slowed down one iota, which is immensely impressive for a 59-year-old. The film’s director, Chad Stahelski,...

Donnie Yen believes “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” makes an obvious statement on Bruce Lee.
Yen, who stars in “John Wick: Chapter 4,” addressed the portrayal of fellow martial arts master, late icon Lee, in Quentin Tarantino’s 2019 Oscar-winning epic film. The depiction of Lee, played by Mike Moh, showed him being pompous on set and getting beaten up by fictional stuntman Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt).
“Everybody is entitled to their opinions. Quentin Tarantino is a very renowned filmmaker, and he’s entitled to his status – and I’m entitled to state my own view,” Yen told Variety. “Obviously, he was making fun of Bruce. It was cartoonish.”
Lee’s daughter Shannon Lee previously slammed the controversial fictionalized depiction of her father by Moh, claiming that the film made Lee look like “an asshole.”

Mason Lee, the son of famed filmmaker Ang Lee, will play Bruce Lee in a forthcoming film of the same name for Sony’s 3000 Pictures. Ang will direct the project from a script written by Dan Futterman. Futterman is taking over scripting duties after Jean Castelli, Alex Law, Mabel Cheung, and Wells Tower penned previous versions of the story.
It’s challenging to overestimate Lee’s astronomical impact on the martial arts film genre. Already a star in Asia, Bruce Lee’s Enter the Dragon catapulted his star into the stratosphere in the West. Had he lived beyond the age of 32, Lee would have achieved the success of actors like Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Donnie Yen, and more. Still, Lee is a household name despite his early passing, and few martial artists have risen to his level of notoriety since. Lee’s death was labeled “death by misadventure” by authorities,...

A new study claims to shed light on the death of celebrated film star and martial artist Bruce Lee.
The Enter The Dragon actor died in July 1973 at the age of just 32 after suffering a cerebral oedema (swelling of the brain).
The swelling was thought to be a reaction to the tranquiliser meprobamate, which made up part of a painkiller Lee was given called Equagesic.
However, a team of researchers has now suggested that the oedema was caused by hyponatraemia. “In other words, we propose that the kidney’s inability to excrete excess water killed Bruce Lee,” the scientists wrote in the paper published in the Clinical Kidney Journal.
Several factors suggest that Lee may have been consuming unusually high quantities of liquid at the time due to his diet, which consisted of a lot of juices and protein drinks, and the use of marijuana, which causes increased thirst.

Shannon Lee, Bruce Lee’s daughter and Brandon Lee’s sister, has penned an essay published by Variety in which she calls for mandatory gun safety training on Hollywood film and television sets and urges the industry to reduce the amount of real firearms used on sets. Lee’s letter comes in the aftermath of the “Rust” tragedy, in which cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was killed after she was shot by a prop gun fired by star and producer Alec Baldwin. Shannon’s brother, Brandon, died on the set of “The Crow” in March 1993 after being fatally wounded by a prop gun.
“Twenty-eight years after losing my brother, Brandon Lee, to a very similar situation — one that allowed real bullets onto a film set and that made actors into agents of death — I’m finally in a sound enough mental and emotional space to raise my voice,” Lee writes. “So here goes.

In the original version of this story, I was one of the characters who suffered a terrible loss and who, alongside the main characters, had to learn to live again. It was a tale of darkness, the reverberations of which are still felt. It took 28 years to make the sequel, entitled “Rust,” and here I am reprising my role. Only this time, I play the seasoned veteran, the one who stands up at the town hall meeting and offers some sage advice, who sheds some light on the situation and attempts to set the stage for some measure of redemption.

“Flabbergasted” is Georges Chamchoum’s choice word to use when thinking of Asia’s disappointingly low Oscar representation, especially given all the masterpieces that have come from the region.
Two years after South Korea’s Parasite won best picture, Chamchoum believes events such as the Asian World Film Festival, of which he serves as executive and program director, are essential to raising those statistics moving forward. It’s always tough to rewrite history, especially when many of the key players who took part in those events are still alive. It’s clear that Quentin Tarantino dramatically altered a lot of what really happened in his new movie Once Upon a Time In Hollywood and while some aren’t too pleased with the liberties he took, most critics and fans agree that it’s one of his all-time best projects.
One of the more surprising fans of the film is Dianne “Snake” Lake, who’s most known for being the youngest member of the infamous Manson Family. After joining the group at age 14 in 1967, she ended up being the key witness in the trial that sent Charles Manson and several of his followers to prison. No, not Mike Moh's excellent performance, as the actor brings Lee back to life in impressive, even uncanny fashion. But fans were initially concerned about how Lee appeared to be losing a fight with Brad Pitt's fictional stuntman on a studio back lot.

The controversy surrounding Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood continues. It was originally reported that upon viewing the film, Bruce Lee’s daughter, Shannon Lee, expressed that she felt her father was portrayed as an “arrogant asshole” in the film. Here’s exactly what she had to say:
“He comes across as an arrogant asshole who was full of hot air, and not someone who had to fight triple as hard as any of those people did to accomplish what was naturally given to so many others.”
Both Tarantino and Mike Moh, who played Lee in the film, responded to the reaction with compassion, but steadfastness in the integrity and fictional nature of the film. Tarantino commented that “Bruce Lee was kind of an arrogant guy. The way he was talking, I didn’t just make a lot of that up. I heard him say things like that,...

How a person acted around those that knew them and how they acted while on set in Hollywood are two very subjective matters that don’t seem to be taken into account in this instance. Shannon Lee likely knew her father in a very different light than many of the people that worked with him, but it could be that she’s not really overreacting to Quentin Tarantino’s use of Bruce Lee’s legend, but is instead just firing back after Quentin decided to make his own statement. After all it wouldn’t the first time that someone has simply escalated a problem by

“He could shut up about it,” she told Variety. “That would be really nice. Or he could apologize or he could say, ‘I don’t really know what Bruce Lee was like. I just wrote it for my movie. But that shouldn’t be taken as how he really was.'”
As Tarantino sees it, Mike Moh’s portrayal of an arrogant Bruce Lee in “Once Upon a Time” should absolutely be taken as an accurate depiction of how the martial arts legend was in real life.

Bruce Lee’s Daughter Says Quentin Tarantino ‘Could Shut Up’ About Her Father’s Portrayal (Exclusive)
Bruce Lee’s daughter, Shannon Lee, is responding to director Quentin Tarantino’s latest comments regarding her father’s portrayal in the film “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.”
“He could shut up about it,” she told Variety when asked how Tarantino could rectify the controversy. “That would be really nice. Or he could apologize or he could say, ‘I don’t really know what Bruce Lee was like. I just wrote it for my movie. But that shouldn’t be taken as how he really was.'”
Tarantino recently defended his depiction of the Asian American martial arts legend (portrayed by Mike Moh) as an arrogant blowhard. “Bruce Lee was kind of an arrogant guy,” Tarantino said at a recent press junket in Moscow. “The way he was talking, I didn’t just make a lot of that up. I heard him say things like that, to that effect.

One of the memorable moments in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon A Time In Hollywood is when Brad Pitt’s Cliff Booth goes head to head with the legendary Bruce Lee played by Mike Moh. This scene polarized audiences and many criticized Tarantino for his portrayal of the martial arts and Hollywood icon — many saw it as arrogant and inauthentic. During a press conference in Russia for the film, he defended his take on Lee.
Tarantino claimed that Lee was “kind of an arrogant guy.” He said that he didn’t make up the things he wrote in the script. “I heard him say things like that — to that effect. If people are saying, ‘Well he never said he could beat up Muhammad Ali,’ well yeah, he did. Not only did he say that, but his wife, Linda Lee, said that in her first biography I ever read…. She absolutely said it.

Quentin Tarantino is standing by his fictionalized depiction of Bruce Lee.
The Oscar-winning writer and director, 56, included the late martial arts legend in his latest film Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood. The movie, which is set in 1969 Los Angeles, depicts Lee (played by newcomer Mike Moh) as cocky, giving him a whole monologue about how he could beat anyone in a fight.
But after fans and Lee’s family members, including his daughter Shannon Lee, slammed the portrayal as “caricature-like,” Tarantino is backing up his writing.
