At the turn of the millennium, the battle lines in the boy-band wars were fairly clear. You were either on Team Backstreet Boys or Team ‘NSync. Some fans took a Switzerland-like stance and professed equal love for both groups, but they were mostly full of shit. Everyone had a favorite.
The cold war turned hot when ‘NSync’s Chris Kirkpatrick and the Backstreet Boys’ Aj McLean dated the same woman a couple of years apart. “I wanted to punch Aj’s lights out for a little while,” Kirkpatrick said years later.

More new *Nsync music may be coming in the near future.
While making an appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show on Tuesday, Justin Timberlake teased that the boy band’s recent reunion for the single “Better Place” — their first song together in over two decades — for the film Trolls Band Together, may not be the only new tune to be released by the group.
“We’ve been in the studio, so there may be a little something in the future, too,” he told host Kelly Clarkson.
Timberlake’s tease came as he recalled “growing up in the industry and getting access to so much in the studio,” which resulted in him becoming what he described as a “studio rat.” He added, “I just loved being in there and I loved the creative process. And also as it pertains to harmonies, I spent some time with four other guys doing a lot of harmonies.

“Trolls Band Together” may be a family film, but millennials will be able to instantly recognize the soundtrack’s numerous ’90s pop and rock hits.

“I think I didn’t realize how lucky I got with this team,” franchise star Anna Kendrick said about DreamWorks Animation’s Trolls Band Together.
Speaking at Deadline’s Contenders Film: Los Angeles event, the Oscar nominee said, “I have other friends who have done other animated films, and they’re like, ‘Yeah it’s cool — you get to show up in your pajamas.’ But its kind of a slog, like someone’s just behind glass and you do three in a row and you just see [hear] … ‘Ah that was great. Do you want to try three more?”
Director Walt Dohrn and producer Gina Shay also were on the panel.
Nsync alum Justin Timberlake also is back for the third film in the toon series. It’s all about the Pop trolls and the five members of BroZone, a five-piece vocal outfit about to perform their last gig, not that they know it.

The Trolls are back! Long-lost siblings reunite and troll magic faces a new obstacle in “Trolls Band Together.” Dynamic duo Poppy (Anna Kendrick) and Branch (Justin Timberlake) embark on a new adventure to get Branch’s brothers’ boy band — Brozone — back together to save Floyd (Troye Sivan) from two wannabe superstar singers who secretly leech off of Floyd’s talent.
John Dory (Eric André) catalyzes the reunion of Brozone, who broke up over creative differences when Branch was a baby. The other two brothers — Clay and Spruce — must be tracked down to save Floyd from losing all of his talent to Velvet (Amy Schumer) and Veneer (Andrew Rannells).
An epic soundtrack, complete with a new *Nsync song as well as renditions of old classics and the addition of Camilla Cabello’s voice awaits adventurers ready for “Trolls 3.”

“Trolls Band Together,” the third chapter in the DreamWorks Animation franchise, gets psychedelic with the introduction of new worlds and characters, helped along by some trippy 2D animation from Titmouse. It’s a musical tribute to ’90s boy bands, fittingly enough, as Justin Timberlake’s Branch reunites with his long-lost brothers (known as the family band BroZone): Floyd (Troye Sivan), John Dory (Eric André), Spruce (Daveed Diggs), and Clay (Kid Cudi).
But Floyd is kidnapped by pop-star siblings Velvet (Amy Schumer) and Veneer (Andrew Rannells) as part of their nefarious musical scheme.
“With Justin and boy bands as part of the DNA of the Troll universe, it felt like a natural extension, and also, musically and visually, it’s more psychedelic,” director Walt Dohrn (“Trolls World Tour”) told IndieWire. “If you can see my room, I live in a kaleidoscopic, Technicolor, psychedelic world. Justin Timberlake was surrounded by friends and supporters when he stepped out for his first red carpet appearance since Britney Spears‘ memoir The Woman in Me.

Justin posed for pics with costar Anna Kendrick outside the Tcl Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, Calif. He was also supported by wife Jessica Biel.
After recording a song with his Nsync bandmates for the movie’s soundtrack, he joined Lance Bass, Jc Chasez, Chris Kirkpatrick and Joey Fatone for a photo, too!

Are *Nsync songs still the music of your heart? Same. Though the band officially split up in 2004, they've continued to occupy a special place in many fans' hearts, and there's been renewed interest in the group ever since they reunited and released their first song in two decades in September for Dreamworks' film "Trolls Band Together." The band also reunited onstage at the 2023 MTV VMAs, and even Taylor Swift couldn't help expressing her hopes that there's more *Nsync to come.
In honor of the group's reunion, however brief it turns out to be, we're taking a look back at how the best '90s boy band first formed. Over the years, bits and pieces of their origins have been shared in TV specials and interviews, including some pretty surprising details. Did you know there was almost a different fifth member in Lance Bass's spot?...

“At this point in our career, new stuff is what brings a breath of fresh air, like the [2011] tour we did with New Kids on the Block,” Howie Dorough said during an exclusive interview at Utah’s recent FanX Salt Lake Comic & Pop Culture Convention. “I’ve always said if we were ever to do something with Nsync or the Spice Girls that would be really cool, or even with Take That over in Europe. Nsync was undeniably one of the hottest boy bands of the 90s. Formed by Chris Kirkpatrick, the group was composed of five members. Other members were Jc Chasez, Joey Fatone, Lance Bass, and Justin Timberlake. Nsync was a hit from the beginning, creating an over 15-year record with their second album, No Strings Attached (2000), selling over 2.4 million copies in a week. As one of the biggest boy bands of that decade, Nsync collaborated with many big names in the music industry. The famous boy band was disbanded with Justin Timberlake’s decision to leave the group in 2002. However,...

Sometimes, good things come with a sacrifice. For pop fans, in the case of ‘NSync reuniting in the studio for the first time in more than two decades, it means that the song they made, “Better Place,” was created for the forthcoming animated sequel Trolls Band Together. But at this point, we’ll take what we can get.

*Nsync have released “Better Place,” the boy band’s first song in over 20 years. The comeback single comes off the soundtrack for Trolls Band Together, the third installment of the Justin Timberlake-starring, animated musical film franchise.
Aptly sharing the message that “When we’re together, you know that we do it better,” *Nsync lean into their pop sensibilities on “Better Place.” Produced by Shellback — who also collaborated with Timberlake for the first Trolls movie — the single features the ’70s-inspired, disco sound that made the first film’s smash hit, “Can’t Stop the Feeling,” so irresistible. As a driving kick drum holds down the bottom, funky guitars and the boy band’s iconic blend of voices provide color over top, with a grooving bass line gluing everything together.

‘N Sync, who recently reunited for a new song, is reflecting on their time as a group, including a scrapped movie cameo, band memes and their favorite songs.
The boy band, which consists of Chris Kirkpatrick, Jc Chasez, Justin Timberlake, Lance Bass and Joey Fatone, recently appeared on a Hot Ones episode to kick off its season 22. During one segment, host Sean Evans asked them about their most memorable band moments, including when they were cast as Jedi warriors in 2002’s Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones.
While Kirkpatrick, Chasez and Fatone confirmed they were initially cast and learned “a bit of sword choreography” for the role, Timberlake said he and Bass were “butt hurt” because they weren’t included. Boy band Nsync reunited once more to kick off Season 22 of “Hot Ones,” and Chris Kirkpatrick made a comparison of their work to that of One Direction early in the episode.
“I think the crazy part about it is that you have a lot of these bands that were put together, and even really good bands,” Kirkpatrick began, with Justin Timberlake interrupting to say, “Not that that’s a bad thing!”
“Yeah, One Direction is an amazing band, but you have five guys that are amazing singers and great soloists,” Kirkpatrick continued. “So when they come out and do songs, it’s like, you fight over ‘Where’s this going to be?’ We kind of knew we sucked at singing certain things.”

Between bouts of profuse sweating and bulging out their eyes in agony, ‘NSync reflected on their career in the latest episode of “Hot Ones” — the YouTube series where celebrities eat spicy wings.
When asked about comparisons between One Direction and ‘NSync, Chris Kirkpatrick differentiated the groups by saying that 1D had five singers who were also all soloists. “So when they come out and do songs, it’s, like, they fight over ‘where’s this [part] gonna be,'” he said. “We kinda knew we sucked at singing certain things. Justin Timberlake says he and Lance Bass were “so butt hurt” after hearing their Nsync bandmates had scored parts for 2002’s “Star Wars: Episode II — Attack of the Clones” that it came as a relief when they discovered their scenes didn’t make the final cut of the film.
Chris Kirkpatrick, Joey Fatone and Jc Chasez had been shooting a music video on a studio lot with the “Star Wars” prequel filming in a nearby sound stage. When producers found out they were big fans of the movie franchise, they promptly were cast in that day’s shoots as Jedi warriors.
Unfortunately for Timberlake and Bass, they were not on set that day. Though they wouldn’t have made the cut anyway.
As Fatone explained recently, the hang-up with the boy band’s Jedi warrior appearances was budget-related.
“Some of us actually were, but then they cut it out...

‘NSync is back, and so are their classic poses.
Ahead of the group’s “Better Place” release for the Trolls Band Together soundtrack — their first new song in 23 years — Justin Timberlake, Jc Chasez, Joey Fatone, Chris Kirkpatrick, and Lance Bass reunited for a throwback clip posted to their Instagram on Tuesday.

Hot on the heels of Nsync’s explosive appearance at the MTV Video Music Awards, Joey Fatone performed the group’s biggest hits in Tampa, Florida on Friday night and Et Canada was exclusively with the musician as he stepped off stage and dished on the boy band’s buzzy reunion.
In town for 90s Con, Fatone, 46, put on a sold-out Joey Fatone & Friends gig at Tampa Theater, where he was joined by his sister Janine and Backstreet Boys pal Aj McLean.
McLean was still buzzing from Tuesday’s Nsync reunion, telling the audience he became “teary” watching Fatone, Justin Timberlake, Jc Chasez, Lance Bass and Chris Kirkpatrick come together at the VMA’s to present an award to Taylor Swift — who fangirled and questioned the band on their future.
“She went, ‘What the hell are you guys doing?’ That was [her] big question.”

An upcoming Nsync album and tour hasn’t been announced, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it won’t happen.
The band — which consists of Justin Timberlake, Jc Chasez, Lance Bass, Chris Kirkpatrick and Joey Fatone — thrilled fans last week after reuniting at the 2023 MTV VMAs to present the Best Pop Video award to a very excited Taylor Swift.
Band members have since, unsurprisingly, been bombarded with reunion questions after announcing their first new music in over 20 years; the “Trolls Band Together” track “Better Place”.
