Selma Blair felt sure she'd beaten Katie Holmes to the role of Joey Potter in teen TV show Dawson's Creek - because the newcomer was too tall.
Blair and Holmes were battling it out with another young actress for the part - and the Hellboy star was confident she'd land it.
She says, "Holmes got it fair and square... (but) I remember seeing her walk into the (audition) room and thinking, 'She is just the tallest girl. There's no way they'll give it to her. She won't even fit on camera.' Then I ate my words. She was adorable."

Actress Selma Blair wishes all her famous former boyfriends would step out of the public eye - because she hates seeing photos of them.
The Hellboy star, who was married to Ahmet Zappa, admits she finds it "very difficult" every time she's confronted with a picture of an ex-lover.
She says, "I wish they'd move back to where they came from in the Midwest or some place. I don't want to see them on billboards or in magazines.
"It's heartbreaking. I'm very sensitive, and it's hard for me."

Selma Blair has claimed that many of her lesbian friends have a crush on her. The Hellboy star has filmed three lesbian scenes during her acting career - most famously with Sarah Michelle Gellar for Cruel Intentions - but has never had any gay experiences in real life. She told Playboy: "I have done three girl-on-girl kisses on screen. And yet I've never experimented in real life. When (more)

Hollywood actress Selma Blair is regularly propositioned by lesbians because of her three on-screen girl-on-girl love scenes.
The 36-year-old, who split from her husband Ahmet Zappa in 2006, gained a massive gay following after locking lips with Sarah Michelle Gellar in 1999's Cruel Intentions.
She subsequently went on to film lesbian kissing scenes for last year's Feast of Love and for upcoming movie Driving Lessons.
And Blair is convinced that many women often confuse her for a real life lesbian, according to the New York Daily News.
She says, "I have done three girl-on-girl kisses on-screen. And, yet, I've never done any (lesbian experimentation) in my real life.
"When lesbian friends tell me they're in love with me after our friendship has been cemented, it always shocks me."

Actress Selma Blair is proud to be starring in the U.S. version of Australian TV comedy Kath + Kim - because she had to battle network bosses to land the role.
The Hellboy star has signed up to appear in the NBC adaptation of the hit Aussie show alongside funnywoman Molly Shannon.
It focuses on the dysfunctional relationship between a daughter and her mother.
And Blair had to fight hard to make TV executives believe she was the right candidate for the part - because no one wanted her to be involved in the project.
She explains, "We're trying to do it on our own terms. But it's a different show. This one has a little more heart than the Australian one.
"I really fought to do it. No one really wanted me, but it was great material. I really wanted to be on the show and stay put (in Hollywood) for a while. I think it will really work."

The players: Director: Guillermo del Toro, Writer: Guillermo del Toro, Cast: Ron Perlman, Selma Blair, Jeffrey Tambor, Luke Goss, Anna Walton, Seth MacFarlane (voice)
Facts of interest: Guillermo del Toro used incredible puppetry combined with digital enhancement to achieve the desired look of the creatures in the film.
The plot: Creatures from the mythical realm wage war against humanity in an attempt to take control of the world, while Hellboy’s band of unlikely heroes do all they can to save mankind.
Our quick thoughts: The red, horned hero is back and better than before in this amped-up sequel of 2004’s “Hellboy.” While the first film appeased mostly fans of fantasy and Mike Mignola's graphic novel, “Hellboy II: The Golden Army” will most likely entertain the majority of moviegoers with its all-around improvements in action, story and aesthetics.

Starring Ron Perlman, Selma Blair, and Doug Jones
Directed by Guillermo del Toro
Rated PG-13
Hellboy II: The Golden Army gets an awful lot right. Two problems: What it gets right the film takes a while to establish and develop, and Hellboy II also gets a few things wrong.
This is still an entertaining film for about the last hour - at least that's where the real highlights are - and it does show the near boundless limitations on director Guillermo del Toro's unique imagination.
Beginning with what's right, the most important thing is that the story works as a sequel. This movie doesn't feel tacked on just to make money. Hellboy, of course, is played by Ron Perlman, and he's great in the character, pretty much an average man's man who happens to be some sort of indestructible mutant. But he smokes cigars, drinks Tecate,

Even though Hellboy (Ron Perlman) and girlfriend Liz (Selma Blair) have the complementary hot and hell dynamic going for them, I'm not sure anyone can pull off superhero bonding between a red-skinned, cat-loving demon and a snarky gal that can, literally, "get fired up." Not even Guillermo del Toro. Yet despite the prominence the gifted director gives the troubled storyline in Hellboy II: The Golden Army, the film still manages to be a hot one. The follow-up to the 2004 original, Hellboy II is not an exercise in unconventional relationships (ala Wall-e) so much as it is a wonderful two-hour excursion into the mind and imagination of del Toro. Never have I so readily pushed aside plot as I have with Hellboy II, given the extraordinary scale and creative creatures. Unlike The Incredible Hulk or Iron Man before it (and The Dark Knight on the horizon), Hellboy II doesn't take ...

Actress Selma Blair is determined to ditch her oddball Hollywood stereotype - so she can star in a film as "the pretty girl".
The Hellboy star fears she has been typecast after taking on a number of quirky roles, including massive-breasted nightclub dancer Caprice Stickles in 2004 movie A Dirty Shame.
The 36-year-old insists she has a glamorous side and is desperate to show it off to casting directors.
Blair says, "I guess I courted it (being stereotyped) somehow... I've taken pretty odd roles. I really wanted to be the pretty girl - glamorous, sweet, pretty, sexy. everything I'm not seen as."

Filming Hellboy II: The Golden Army was no sweat for actress Selma Blair - she was one of the only stars on set who didn't wear extensive prosthetics.
The big screen adaptation of the comic book required actors to spend hours in the make-up chair being fitted with heavy make-up and latex prosthetics to play mythical creatures.
But Blair, who plays character Liz Sherman, couldn't help but taunt her fellow cast members about her simple wardrobe.
She says, "I (was) very naughty in that department. On the hottest days, when the other actors (couldn't) breathe in their makeup, I breeze in and say how sweaty I feel in my cotton tank top.
"It's just as well (Hellboy actor) Ron Perlman is my next-door neighbour in real life and knows my sense of humour."

“The Dark Knight” is certainly not the only anticipated sequel to open nationwide in July. One film I’m particularly excited about is Guillermo de Toro’s “Hellboy II: The Golden Army,” the follow-up to his 2004 action hit “Hellboy.”
That’s right, Red and co. are back to kick some butt on the big screen, and judging by the numerous trailers we’ve seen over the past months, it’s going to be one awesome party. In anticipation for the film’s release on July 11, 2008, Universal is stepping up promotion by releasing some brand-new clips from the upcoming sequel starring Ron Perlman, Selma Blair and Doug Jones.
You check two of them out just below. For the third one, head over to Entertainment Weekly right here. None of these clips feature some of the large-scale action we’ve got a peek at in the previews, but they sure prove Hellboy

Tank Girl star Lori Petty has turned her tough Iowa upbringing into a new movie, and cast Selma Blair as her mother.
Petty wrote and directed The Poker House, staging a lengthy casting call to find the newcomer who would play her as a child, Jennifer Lawrence - and called on the Hellboy star to play her mum.
Perry's autobiographical directorial debut, about her poverty-stricken teenage years, will premiere at the upcoming Los Angeles Film Festival.
A film insider says, "It's a ravishing portrait of poor, small town life in Iowa, circa 1976 - Marvin Gaye, seedy bars, and the ever present allure of illicit activities and substances."
Blair plays a mum of three daughters in the film. Her eldest, Agnes, is inspired by Lori herself.
The film includes Petty's "pimp father figure, and a memorable assortment of dangerous yet colourful gamblers, thieves and johns."
Petty says, "This is a movie that had to be made, so it showed up uninvited as my adolescence. The movie is the eldest daughter, me, realising between a heartbeat, that things may happen to you, but they don't happen to you forever unless you let them."
