'Dexter' Post-Mortem

21 December 2009 3:07 PM, PST | FEARnet | See recent FEARnet news »

A week after the record-breaking season finale of Dexter, and I am still reeling from Rita's death.  So are the cast and crew members.  EW.com has a couple of really interesting interviews that are kind of a season debriefing. Dexter himself, Michael C. Hall, talks about losing his "wife," Julie Benz, and the Dexter/Trinity relationship.  Meanwhile, executive producer Clyde Phillips discusses the agonizing decision to kill off Rita, and the possible directions that season five might go in.  He doesn't give up any details, but to be fair, they haven't actually gone into production yet on the next season.   It is going to be a long year waiting for season five. »

Brittany Murphy Tweets From Peter Facinelli, Paris Hilton And Others In Another Twitter-Wood Early Edition

21 December 2009 2:00 PM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Earlier today, we brought you an early edition of Twitter-Wood packed chock-full of celebrity praise for James Cameron's sci-fi epic, "Avatar." It's a much more tragic set of circumstances that brings me back to you with another Twitter-Wood early edition.

"Clueless" star Brittany Murphy left us suddenly over the weekend, the victim of a heart attack at the too-young age of 32. The breaking news resulted in an outpouring of grief and sympathy for Murphy's family from around the celebrity Twittersphere. I'll let the people who knew her take it from here...

@ParisHilton So sad to hear about Brittany Murphy, such a tragedy. She was such a beautiful, funny and sweet girl. My heart goes out to her family.

18 December 2009 11:00 AM, PST | E! Online | See recent E! Online news »

It's not just any basic cable show that can take a clip of a woman who's just killed herself in a bathtub, her infant crying on the blood-soaked floor, and spin it into comedy gold. But with deft laughmaster Joel McHale at the helm and a drop-in from Julie Benz, there's no stopping the yuks. But now that lovely, talented, whiskey-swilling Benz is free from her Dexter character Rita and available for work, will McHale be out of a job?  Get the answer and so much more on tonight's fresh Soup at 10 p.m. Et/Pt. »

'Dexter's' Julie Benz hasn't watched the whole finale yet

18 December 2009 9:21 AM, PST | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

Julie Benz spoke with Pink is the New Blog for an in-depth interview about the "Dexter" season finale. Spoilers after the jump, so don't keep reading if you haven't watched it yet.

Apparently actress Julie Benz has not even watched the "Dexter" finale in its entirety. She was watching the broadcast with friends but as the ending neared, she made a few jokes and excused herself. We can totally understand.

The most interesting part of the interview for us was when Benz was asked if she would return as a sort-of ghost, the way Dexter's father does. She responded:

I wouldn't want to do anything that seemed cheesy or hokey or that took away from the impact that Rita's death had. However, we have the most amazing writers on Dexter and they never deliver anything cheesy or hokey, so if there was a discussion about it and they wanted »

Everyone had a lot to say about Rita's shocking death, but fans have been waiting all week to hear from Julie Benz herself. How did she react when told of her character's demise? Will Rita turn into a ghost?

E! News asked these questions, and many more, of the actress. Her candid replies are below...

On any kind of return: "There has been no talk of me coming back to the series in any way. A lot of people have been begging me to tell them that I'm going to come back, and I'm like, 'Rita's dead!' Rita is dead and Trinity killed her... I don't think it could get any more obvious that Trinity killed Rita. Rita is dead."

So if you haven't seen the finale, do not read on . Julie Benz, whose character Rita was killed off at the end of Dexter season four, talked to PopWrap recently and speculated as to whether her character will return as one of Dexter's visions (similar to how his father appeaers) in season five. "It would depend on how they want to utilize her and in what manned," she said. "I would return for the fans but only if it made sense and had impact. I wouldn't want to cheapen what happened. I think her death was so poetic in so many ways. As shocking as it was, there was poetry in the imagery and I wouldn't want »
