Looking through Shim Hyung-rae’s small oeuvre, it would only make sense for the South Korean comedian-turned-filmmaker to create a movie like Dragon Wars: D-War. As early as 1993, Shim was playing with monsters; his directorial debut, Young-Goo and Dinosaur Zu-Zu, is derivative of Gorgo, Mothra and the like. Shim returned soon after with more monster mayhem in two other obscurities: Tyranno’s Claws and Dragon Tukka. His big break then came in 1999 with the high-budget remake of 1967’s Yongary, Monster from the Deep. As exciting as the opportunity was, Shim ultimately experienced unforeseen hardship after directing what was, at the time, the most expensive Korean-produced movie.
Yonggary, or Reptilian in the West, led to a challenging period for Shim. This ‘99 movie could have easily been the end of his career. Strangely, though, it was not the critical derision that caused Shim’s personal crisis. On the contrary, a shady distribution...

The episode of Wtf Happened to This Horror Movie? covering The Grudge (2004) was Written and Narrated by Adam Walton, Edited by Juan Jimenez, Produced by Andrew Hatfield and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
If there was one thing the early noughties had in an abundance, especially within the horror genre, it was remakes. We were graced with reboots, or re-imaginings, whatever you want to call them, of the likes of Zack Snyder’s Dawn of the Dead, The Hills Have Eyes, The Amityville Horror, House of Wax, Rob Zombie’s Halloween remake from 2007 and The Ring. However, despite the decent quality of those examples, well most of them, one thing that stands out in the film we’re focusing on today, The Grudge (watch it Here), is the fact that the original’s director, Takashi Shimizu, chose to also take on the remake. In 2002 the aforementioned The Ring,...

For audiences, television is entertainment, but for the companies behind the scenes, TV is big business. From the late '20s through the early '80s, American Broadcasting Company (ABC), National Broadcasting Company (NBC), and Columbia Broadcasting System (CBS) had no lasting competition and they ruled the television landscape. In their heyday, the big three produced loads of classics like "The Three Stooges," "The Lone Ranger," "Gunsmoke," "Howdy Doody," "The Ed Sullivan Show," and "Bonanza," just to name a few. I've never seen an entire episode of any of those shows, but I recognize their names and know, generally, what they are about, which proves they have a firm foothold in popular culture. Cementing such a place in entertainment history is something every television show hopes to do, but doing so got a lot harder in the '90s.

Roswell, New Mexico saved its biggest Season 3 surprise for the tail end of Monday’s two-part finale, culminating in a final moment that was both unexpected and unreal.
Following Jones’ long-overdue defeat, the episode took us to Mexico, where a naked woman was wandering the streets of Careyes in a daze. Believed to be “one of the sky people,” she was directed to a woman named Allie, who instantly awoke from her mezcal-induced stupor when she heard that this stranger was looking for Liz Ortecho.

Supergirl Season 6 Episode 8
Supergirl is back! But it’s not all ice cream cones and pizza parties just yet. She’s finally reunited with her sister and her team, and she got that long-awaited hug with Lena – without whom she would still be in the Phantom Zone, as she pointed out. But from the first time we see Kara in this episode under the sun lamps, it’s clear that the events of the first half of the season will stay with her for a while.
Guest star/CW legacy player Jason Behr caps off his time on Supergirl as Kara’s biological father, Zor-El, by getting to know the Girl of Steel’s life in National City before he heads to Argo City to reunite with his wife and the surviving Kryptonians. Posing as Kara’s Uncle Archie,...

If the first seven episodes of the final season of “Supergirl” showed us anything, it’s that Lena Luthor (Katie McGrath) was always meant to be part of the Super Friends. The good news is she’s here now, and thanks to a classic older sister pep talk from Alex Danvers (Chyler Leigh), Lena isn’t going anywhere. And now that Kara’s been rescued, Lena will have her best friend back — with no drama attached, according to the showrunners.
“We’re looking at better days,” showrunner Robert Rovner told TheWrap in April. “Lena apologized to Kara in the season opener, and she goes about the first part of the season making amends for that, and is vital to the team in terms of helping them get Supergirl back. And so once Supergirl’s back, it’s their friendship, and [Lena’s] part of the team.

If you were a teen or tween during the 90s, then you probably have lots of fond memories of Jason Behr. He broke onto the acting scene during the early 90s, and within a few years, he was landing spots on some very popular TV shows. He got his first big break in 1995 when he was cast in Sherman Oaks. His biggest role came a few years later when he earned the role of Max Evans in the series Roswell. His role in the series helped him build a large fan base, but when the show ended in 2002

Hang onto your hats, Supergirl fans. The midseason finale, airing this Tuesday (9/8c, The CW), is going to push the Super Friends to their limits as they attempt to rescue the Girl of Steel from the Phantom Zone.
“This is definitely the most intense episode of Supergirl that I’ve been a part of,” Jason Behr, who plays Kara’s biological father Zor-El, tells TVLine. “It seems like all hope is lost and yet, there is that little kernel, and they’re all racing against the clock because the Phantom Zone is crumbling before their very eyes.”

Supergirl Season 6 Episode 4
To vanquish the Phantoms and escape the Phantom Zone, Supergirl motions toward horror with its body-snatching plot in National City and eerie quest over in the Phantom Zone. With the Prime Phantom still terrorizing National City and Kara and her father still trapped, the Super Friends had their hands full while still trying to come to terms with the emotional aspect of losing Kara, mostly by consuming Scotch or doughnuts.
In an early bout with phantoms, a seemingly defeated phantom coming from lying on the ground to standing up in one smooth movement was a particularly cool genre moment for the usually-light Supergirl. The final showdown with the mini-Phantom Zone on Earth has more horror beats, like when Brainy is taken and he claws his way from the shadows – his red eyes a sign he’s been...

Roswell: Season 2 Episode 13
Roswell’s finale absolutely cruised through a rapid succession of events in the first ten minutes to deal with last episode’s fiery madness in order to leave the rest of the episode to tie up season-long arcs, before ending on a big twist. This season feels like it just began last week, and yet Roswell managed to cover so much ground in a short space of 13 episodes.
Alex Manes had a great story this season that worked best when played with a light hand. He and Michael literally destroying the place where Jesse Manes brought violence and shame into their world was the emotionally resonant metaphorical death we needed to accompany Jesse Manes’s less cathartic literal one. It’s going to be strange for the show to be less one Jesse Manes (and it sort of feels like we...

Roswell Season 2 Episode 4
The obvious theme of this episode of Roswell is all about playing God—how Max Evans did it when he killed Noah Bracken, Isobel Evans does it when she chooses to reunite Rosa Ortecho with her father to right the wrongs from so many years ago, and you could even say how Liz and Kyle are trying to go beyond the edge of science, or the way Kyle is studying surgeons at work, who if Grey’s Anatomy is to be believed, often think of themselves as Gods.
But this episode was really about family, especially how you make a family. Arturo Ortecho isn’t Rosa’s biological father, but there’s no denying the way he mourned her, or the look on his face when he saw her alive in front of him again. Some 70 years ago, Louise and Nora were hiding out and found Mr.

In a fascinating bit of retro casting, it was announced Sunday at New York Comic Con’s Warner Bros. Television panel that Jason Behr—star of the 1999 series Roswell—will join the Roswell, New Mexico cast in a recurring role. Also added to The CW/Warner Bros. Television’s sophomore series will be Gaius Charles, who played fan favorite Brian “Smash” Williams on Friday Night Lights.
Behr played Max Evans in the late-‘90s series; that same character (played by Nathan Dean) ended season 1 dead after sacrificing himself to resurrect Rosa Ortecho (Amber Midthunder), the long-dead sister of his love, Liz (Jeanine Mason).
“We are very, very lucky that Jason is joining us for a multi-episode arc, at least four,” said showrunner Carina Adly MacKenzie during the panel. “I was sitting and watching him work and thinking, I can’t believe he’s here. It’s been an extraordinary experience.

Jason Behr, who starred as Max Evans on the original “Roswell” series in 1999, has joined the cast of the midseason drama in an undisclosed recurring role. Behr will appear in multiple episodes of the reboot, including at least one directed by his former co-star and on-screen flame, Shiri Appleby.
“We’re very excited that Jason will be joining us for a multi-episode arc,” executive producer Carina Adly MacKenzie said in a statement. “It’s only fitting that he’s playing a (currently top secret) character with deep ties to Roswell, New Mexico’s history.”

"I'm Liz Parker and five days ago I died. But then the really amazing thing happened. I came to life." And with that iconic introduction on October 6, 1999, one of the most fervent online fanbases was formed. Roswell premiered 20 years ago, introducing viewers to Liz (Shiri Appleby), an average high school girl whose life is saved and changed forever when she is saved by Max Evans (Jason Behr), her classmate who also happens to be an alien, along with his sister Isabel (Katherine Heigl) and troubled best friend Michael (Brendan Fehr), delivering a new sci-fi take on the teen drama genre; teen alienation had never before been so literal. While it never attracted a huge audience, Roswell, which was...

Once a Roswell resident always a Roswell resident. Brendan Fehr, the original Michael Guerin, posted a pic on Twitter of a small reunion with some Roswell castmates including Jason Behr, Nick Wechsler, and Majandra Delfino on Tuesday, writing, "Turns out we still kinda like each other." Behr played Max Evans, Wechsler played Kyle Valenti, and Delfino played Maria DeLuca in the 1999 series, which ran on both The WB and Upn for three seasons. Shiri Appleby, Katherine Heigl, and Colin Hanks all also starred, but were apparently not present for this little reunion.
