More IMDb casting this morning as they report that Beatrice Miller, Ulrich Thomsen (The Substitute), Tom Kemp (Shuttle) and Jamie Harold (The Last Winter). Pablo Schreiber, Dallas Roberts (The Factory), Tom Riis Farrell, among many others, have joined Josh Lucas, Brian Cox and Lena Headey in Michael Cuesta's Tell-tale. The film is now in post-production after lensing last April in Rhode Island. Inspired by the classic Edgar Allan Poe story "The Tell-Tale Heart," the contemporized adaptation sees Lucas starring as a single father whose recently transplanted heart leads him on a frantic search to find the donor's killer before a similar fate befalls him.

A veteran London police in spector who's a devout Mus lim is intriguingly at the center of Jag Mundhra's "Shoot on Sight," which starts out as a thriller inspired by that city's 2005 Tube and bus bombings but gets bogged down in a family soap opera.

If the old maxim "What I really want to do is direct" still holds true, this week's releases confirm that the filmmaking game is more open than ever. Anyone can have a crack at it; actors, teachers, digital artists, preachers. Perhaps you should have a go yourself. Hell, if Paul W.S. Anderson can get work doing it...
"The Amazing Truth About Queen Raquela"
Offering up the most unlikely fairytale you're ever likely to see, Icelandic filmmaker Olaf de Fleur Johannesson draws on his documentary background with this endearing low-budget, semi-improvised Cinderella story. As a young Filipino lady-boy, the spunky, pre-op sex worker Raquela longs to be the belle of the ball as she trawls the Internet looking for love. When an American suitor pledges to be her Prince Charming and proposes a meeting in France, Raquela departs for her long-awaited date with destiny under the glittering Paris skyline.

Andie MacDowell, Cary Elwes and Brian Cox have boarded Jonathan Mossek’s upcoming thriller “As Good as Dead,” according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The trade says Elwes stars as a left-wing extremist who goes on the run after killing the reverend (Cox) behind a white supremacist group. MacDowell portrays the victim’s wife who seeks revenge with the help of two redneck accomplices.
Frank Whaley, Matt Dallas and Jess Weixler also star. Mossek is directing a script he wrote with Erez Mossek and Eve Pomerance.
It’s been quite a while since we last saw MacDowell on the big screen. According to IMDb, she recently wrapped filming for Howard Michael Gould’s “The Six Wives of Henry Lefay.”
Elwes most recently starred in “Georgia Rule.” His upcoming projects include Robert Zemeckis’ “A Christmas Carol.” As for Cox, he can be seen in “Trick ‘r Treat,” which will open the 2008 edition of Screamfest.

"Trick 'r Treat" has been given the honor to be the opening movie for 2008 Screamfest Horror Film Festival. The Michael Dougherty's directorial feature film debut will be kicking off the U.S. largest horror film festival on October 10 with its screening at the Grauman's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood followed by a Q&A session with Dougherty.
Produced by Bryan Singer, Alex Garcia and Dan Harris, the flick starring Anna Paquin, Brian Cox and Leslie Bibb among others highlights on the scary consequences of dismissing a tradition. The anthology movie follows a suburban couple, a principal with a serial killer attitude, a young woman dressed as little red riding hood, a group of pranksters and a cantankerous old hermit when they each experience how scary a Halloween can be.
2008 Screamfest Horror Film Festival runs from October 10 to 19 at Mann's Chinese 6 Theaters. Several other entry movies apart from "Trick" include "Dance

Andie MacDowell hasn't really been in the game for a while but she might be getting a little bump in her profile with an upcoming weird sounding drama/thriller AS GOOD AS DEAD. She, Brian Cox, Cary Elwes, Jess Wexler and Laura Harring star in a story centering on a left-wing extremist (Elwes) who kills a white supremacist reverend (Cox). MacDowell plays Cox's widow with Wexler playing Elwes' wife and Harring playing his neighbor. Weird, right? But it could be interesting, especially if...

Awe yeah baby. Our good pal, and fellow film fanatic, Adam Lopez, aka. organizer of the world famous Toronto After Dark Film Fest (Tad to its friends), has just announced the first round of titles for this year's event. So far the titles represent a perfect mix of award wining international faves and outright over-the-top cult crazies; and I for one am loving it. First on the menu is Repo! The Genetic Opera, Darren Lynn Bousman's zany scifi horror musical hybrid. It might be the only film that stars Paris Hilton that I'd venture to see. Next on the line-up is everyone's favorite gorefest, Tokyo Gore Police. Then there's the celebrated, Tribeca winning Vampire flick Let the Right One In which Cyberhal reviewed and loved. Then they've got revenge thriller Red starring Brian Cox. Animation is also getting some love this year with Bill Plympton's amazing Idiots & Angels taking center stage.

Hot on the heels of todays earlier report that Trick 'R Treat would be hitting DVD, Shock got an update on their article implying that we'd see a limited theatrical release of Michael Dougherty's Halloween-themed anthology before the eventual DVD release. Now, Fangoria announced that they'll be hosting a Free screening of the movie at The Two Boots Pioneer Theater on Monday, October 13 at 7 p.m.! The film’s writer/director, Michael Doughtery will introduce the film and take part in a Q&A.

It's been a while since we've heard anything about the directorial debut of screenwriter Michael Dougherty's Trick 'R Treat, which was originally due out in theaters last Halloween. Then it was listed as an 'upcoming release' on the most recent publicity sheet from Warner Bros. Now, while still unconfirmed, Shock is reporting that the WB are planning a direct-to-dvd release for Trick 'R Treat.
Their article quotes a reliable source as saying, "Just got an email. Warner is keeping Trick 'r Treat, but it's going direct-to-dvd." Rumor has it that the WB weren't sure how to sell the Halloween themed anthology horror film. (Um... here's a thought... release it on Halloween, maybe?!)
Regardless, with the success of The Lost Boys: The Tribe and the direct-to-dvd Raw Feed films, it'd make sense for them to go this route.
Trick 'R Treat was written and directed by Michael Dougherty (Superman Returns,

If you harm a man's dog, either he'll kill you or he'll die try ing. If that sounds like a far-reaching premise, it's not - if you're a dog lover.
That's the plot of "Red," a movie about a Korean War vet, Avery (Brian Cox), who encounters three troublemaking teens when he and his 14-year-old dog, Red, are out fishing.
Not one to take the ensuing cruelty to his dog sitting down, Avery decides to seek justice. When justice is not forthcoming, he pays a visit to the kids' father (Tom Sizemore). And when that goes nowhere,

Kindly old Northwest widower Brian Cox wakes up early one Sunday, feeds his dog Red, then drives out to his favorite quiet fishing spot for a day of idling. In the late afternoon, three snotty teenagers emerge from the woods brandishing a shotgun, and ask if Cox has any money. He tries to placate them, but their ringleader, Noel Fisher, shoots Red. When Cox tracks down Fisher's wealthy father (Tom Sizemore) and tries to extract some restitution, Sizemore refuses "to do the right thing," so Cox exhausts his legal options, then plans his own justice. Norwegian director Trygve Allister Diesen and cult horror helmer Lucky McKee—working from a script by Stephen Susco—adapt Jack Ketchum's suspense novel Red into a low-boil revenge drama about people who never asked for trouble, and don't handle it well when trouble comes their way. Cox gets hassled, but then starts doing the hassling,

This week's delectable delights include, amongst other things, such highbrow morsels as a gallery retrospective on D.I.Y. art and a crash course in the history of the California vineyards. If that's not your cup of proverbial tea, there's always psychotic bikers and the ballad of two stoned losers on the run from gangsters and the police.
More than 15 years after founding the hugely influential Alleged Gallery in New York, the freelance curator Aaron Rose continues to serve as a cornerstone of the now-global D.I.Y. art scene. Here he teams with "Blair Witch" actor-turned-director Joshua Leonard to chart the evolution and subsequent commercialization of a movement whose genesis was found in a group of outcasts, slackers and misfits from the fringes of subculture. Emerging from the dirty little worlds of surfing, skateboarding and street graffiti, a group of artists including the likes of Harmony Korine,

Those beautiful fiends over at Dread Central got the trailer to Red, the latest adaptation from one of Jack Ketchum's novels. The film directed by Trygve Allister Diesen (Lucky McKee was the original director) and written by Stephen Susco (The Grudge) stars Brian Cox, Noel Fisher & Tom Sizemore. Magnolia Pictures puts it out in limited theatrical release on August 8th, 2008. Check the trailer out at Dread's post Here, down below, or on Apple's website.
Synopsis: Avery Allan Ludlow (Brian Cox), a Korean War vet with a tragic past, lives alone in a small town, where he runs the local hardware store. Av’s only companion is a 14 year-old ginger-haired dog, aptly named Red by Av’s late wife. One day, Av and Red are enjoying a placid outing at their favorite fishing spot when three boys and a shotgun come along. In an instant, Av’s lifelong friend is gone,

Apologies for the lack of updates the past couple of days. I blame the exhaustingly stylized, rockabilly zombie movie Flick, which engendered so much cinematic bile, I feared the excess would leak into the other films I had planned to discuss. Luckily, today’s festival topping (so far) double feature comprised of Stuart Gordon’s horror morality tale Stuck (review) and a dark and moving adaptation of Jack Ketchum Red (review), finally expectorated the celluloid loogie I had built up. With Flick spat to the gutter, let’s talk about the good stuff we saw!
Day eleven was a high point of the festival, a day that elevated the found footage horror genre with Christopher Denham’s Home Movie (review), produced by Andrew van den Houten (who we earlier reported is set to start shooting Jack Ketchum’s Offspring). Paul also caught Trailer Park of Terror (review), a fun trailer

Magnolia Pictures has finally settled on its release plans for Lucky McKee and Trygve Allister Diesen’s Red, an adaptation of the Jack Ketchum novel of the same name.
The film will open in New York and Los Angeles on Friday, August 8th, with a slow rollout to more theaters to follow. Brian Cox, Tom Sizemore, Robert Englund, Kim Dickens and more star in this haunting tale about a man (Cox) who loses his only companion, a 14-year-old ginger-haired dog named Red, when some reckless teenagers with a shotgun show up at his favorite fishing spot. Determined to track them down and bring the truth out about what they did, he’s stopped at every turn by the closed minds in his small town.
We’ll have more info, including a theater/city listing for Red’s larger opening, as soon as it’s available. Red follows the tradition started
