The streamer will now debut the film exclusively on the platform October 18.

After a week off, Batwoman is back this week with a villain that is eerily similar to Batman’s arch nemesis, the Joker, but while the idea was good, the result was lackluster.
The story of our new villain, Duela Dent (Alessandra Torresani), starts in 2012 as she stands in the mirror applying makeup. Her mother, who has her own issues, berates her and body shames her own daughter, resulting in Duela punching the mirror and using a shard of glass to make a Joker-like smile on her own face. The social commentary regarding appearance and how we all perceive ourselves is a nice change of pace for a villain and very poignant in our society today.
Duela doesn’t just disfigure herself though, she decides to take on all the models that call Gotham home.

Alessandra Torresani seems like that awkward, goofy person that revels in the fact that she’s not like everyone else and is very proud that she’s seen as weird and ‘out there’. In fact that attitude has taken her a long ways in her career thus far and it’s been very inspirational for others that might feel a little out of place in society now and again. To see her as a role model might not be the best thing to do but to see her as an inspiration and someone that proves that being weird and unusual is in fact

"White people steppin'?!" "I know..." Netflix has unveiled a trailer for an indie comedy titled Step Sisters, a fictionalized feature about a step dancing competition and a sorority. Megalyn Echikunwoke stars as a top-of-the-class woman at a university who is tasked with teaching her "misbehaving, mostly white sorority how to step" but gets into all kinds of trouble when she instead decides to train her rival sorority house to get ready for the competition. The cast includes Matt McGorry, Naturi Naughton, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Marque Richardson, Eden Sher, Lyndon Smith, Gage Golightly, Nia Jervier, and Alessandra Torresani. Unfortunately, this looks pretty terrible, even though there seems to be good intentions behind it. I would recommend just watching the documentary Step instead, about actual step dancers. Have fun. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Charles Stone III's Step Sisters, direct from YouTube: Jamilah Bishop (Megalyn Echikunwoke) seems to...

Every week, IndieWire asks a select handful of TV critics two questions and publishes the results on Tuesday. (The answer to the second, “What is the best show currently on TV?” can be found at the end of this post.)
This week’s question: What does it take to make a good prequel TV series? (And feel free to include an example of a show that got it right or wrong.)
Allison Keene (@KeeneTV), Collider
A prequel TV series is the most successful when it uses familiar touchstones but creates its own world. “Hannibal” is probably the best example of this, where there were characters we recognized but the setting, experience, and modern time period were completely Bryan Fuller’s (wonderfully so). “Bates Motel” has been another positive example, especially as it nears its end. The time period is again modernized, but it keeps a surreal and retro feel. And...

Dr. Cooper’s frequently-discussed-but-never-before-seen grandmother (as portrayed by Oscar nominee June Squibb) arrived from Texas in the aptly titled “The Meemaw Materialization,” and it wasn’t long before she and Amy were at each other’s throats.
The reason, you might ask?
The otherwise endearing Meemaw has an axe to grind with Shelly’s girlfriend over her decision to break up with him last year.

Caprica, the 2010 prequel show to the 2003 reimagining of Battlestar Galactica, has been on my Netflix watch list for some time; but I blame Mindy Newell’s recent column for bumping it up to the top and getting me to actually start watching (I’m about five episodes in now). I love the modern Battlestar Galactica series, and thus would naturally have a desire to watch anything related to it; but BSG was such an entity unto itself that I was a little afraid of re-visiting it in this prequel format for fear it wouldn’t measure up. Fortunately, it doesn’t have to. It’s a different kind of show, and self-contained enough while still referencing BSG to be enjoyably tied to BSG without having to match it measure-for-measure.
For those who aren’t familiar with the prequel series, Caprica takes place “58 years before the Fall” of the Colonies that kicks off BSG,...

A couple of years ago, I was wandering around San Diego Comic-Con when I stumbled across a signing going on at the California Browncoats table. There sat Jane Espenson - writer for wonderful treats like Buffy, Battlestar Galactica, Torchwood, and Once Upon a Time - with two young men. I sidled up to one of the guys and asked what the signing was for. Husbands, he told me, a webseries comedy about marriage equality.
The three of them agreed to an interview (how could I pass up an opportunity to interview Espenson on one of her new projects?) and we talked about their plans for the show they were just about to shoot. Set just after marriage equality becomes law across the entire United States (and thus still,...

Amy Acker is a very important actress in my eyes. I came to know her through the works of Joss Whedon, but since then I’ve seen her working on other projects not associated with Whedon and she’s really dazzled me. She’s just so… creepy. When she started recurring on Person of Interest, I thought she was the best thing to ever happen to that series. She has a way of delivering lines that make her seem whimsically detached from reality, as if she were living in her own little world no one else can see. And because I witnessed that performance, I know she’ll be absolutely perfect for the part she’s taken in Husbands.
It’s no surprise Acker has made her way to Husbands, a web series from Jane Espenson and Brad Bell. Through out the shows first two seasons, a number of frequent...

The name Van Vlahakis might not be well known, but his is the immigrant success story that perhaps we don't hear of often enough. The Greece native landed in America with only $22 dollars to his name and wound up founding Earth Friendly Products, a multi-million dollar company. Now, perhaps completing the circle of the American dream, his tale has now inspired the biopic, "A Green Story." Ed O’Ross, Annabella Sciorra, Shannon Elizabeth, Malcolm McDowell, Billy Zane, Louis Mandylor and Debbie Matenopoulos are among the ensemble cast in writer/director Nick Agiashvili's film which premiered last year at the L.A. Greek Film Festival. Today, we have an exclusive clip to share with you. In this clip we see a young Van, played by George Finn ("Lol") sharing some time with his first love (Alessandra Torresani of "Caprica" fame) before some news from Greece arrive under his door. American Horror House starring Morgan Fairchild and Alessandra Torresani premieres tonight at 9/8c on Syfy.
Synopsis:
On Halloween night a sorority house is overrun with ghosts while a vengeful housemother goes on a killing spree. The American Horror House Original Movie is directed by Darin Scott (Dark House) and stars Morgan Fairchild and Alessandra Torresani.Entertainment Weekly says:
Continuing Syfy's schlock legacy, Horror pits buxom sorority pledges against an evil housemother (Morgan Fairchild) who's harvesting the souls of unfortunate visitors. The gore, acting, and screenplay are decidedly camp — which I suspect is kind of the point — making for silly, brainless Halloween fun. And to prove it's ultra-contemporary, it's all set to dubstep! No, really.
And from Shock Till You Drop:
American Horror House works because it does not take itself seriously and has modest ambitions. With healthy doses of sniping sorority girls and plenty of pop culture references, very often it is intentionally funny.

Syfy's 13th Day of Halloween proves dreadfully unlucky for the partygoers and sorority pledges in tonight's original movie, American Horror House. Morgan Fairchild and Alessandra Torresani co-star in this ghostly tale directed by Darin Scott (Femme Fatales, Dark House).
Last week screen icon Morgan Fairchild spoke with reporters about her wide-ranging career, this film and what it was like making it.
She began by revealing her fandom for these kinds of films, which was the primarily reason she agreed to play Ms. Margot here. "I must confess I’m quite a devotee of the Syfy movie channel. I watch Syfy movies on the weekends. I’ve always enjoyed these kinds of fun movies. Even when I'm not at home, my boyfriend knows to record their new nine o'clock movies for me every Saturday. I like monsters and ghosts and I’m a big vampire fan. I loved Dracula and Frankenstein and all of that.

With Syfy’s Original Movie American Horror House debuting tomorrow, October 13th, at 9Pm, we caught up with Latin actress Isabel Cueva, who stars alongside Morgan Fairchild and Alessandra Torresani in the Darin Scott-directed ghost flick.
Cueva, who previously appeared in Jack the Reaper and will next appear alongside Danny Trejo in American Flyer, said of her experience with American Horror House, “I love playing dramatic characters, and I loved the experience of playing a character that changes throughout the story; the killer in this movie is very creative in the way he/she kills! You will see people die, but not in the common ways we see in horror films, and while I don’t get to do any screaming, I do cry.”
Check out the exclusive clip and photo below as well as the trailer for American Horror House.

Technically, Syfy‘s 31 Days of Halloween celebration started on Monday, but it really gets going tonight with the broadcast premiere of a special 90-minute episode of Paranormal Witness, “The Abduction.” Based on the 1975 UFO abduction case in Arizona, this docudrama will have you glued to your viewing device. It is astoundingly good.
At the other end of the month we’ll get to vote on the Face Off winner. In between will be episodes of Ghost Hunters and Syfy Original Movies and of course, the very excellent Haven.

The Paley Center for Media in Beverly Hills hosted the Season 2 premiere of Husbands last Monday night, making the online sitcom the first web series to be so honored by the good people at Paley West. The series, co-created by veteran television writer Jane Espenson and YouTube sensation Brad “Cheeks” Bell, continues where Season 1 left off. Newlyweds Brady (Sean Hemeon) and Cheeks (Bell) are working on their marriage with the not always helpful, but always humorous advice of their friend Haley (Alessandra Torresani) and several impressive guest stars. While the heart of Husbands’ story has not changed, Season 2 has fun updates fans and new viewers alike might want to take note of before watching. Here’s a quick breakdown of Husbands 2.0: New Website Head over to the series’ new site at LoveHusbands.com for new episodes and bonus videos. Syfy's "Bigfoot," starring Danny Bonaduce and Barry Williams airs June 30th. June on Syfy means it's time for escapist popcorn fare, over-the top-summer flicks for families; the big, special-effects-driven movies you have come to love. So far we have seen Arachnoquake, Jersey Shore Shark Attack, Swamp Shark and SwampVolcano. CGI B-Movie masterpieces that really have the creatures jumping out at you. The Partridge Family-Brady Bunch history of the actors just makes it all the more delicious. In the Fall, Syfy will offer darker original films including American Horror House, with Morgan Fairchild and Alessandra Torresani, and Dead Walking, with LeVar Burton and Mariel Hemingway.

Quiz question: Who’s the most geek-friendly writer/producer working in television today? The answer is pretty obvious – it’s Jane Espenson. She’s at least partially responsible for “Torchwood,” “Caprica,” “Battlestar Galactica” and one episode of “Game Of Thrones.” Oh yeah – she’s also contributed to every Joss Whedon TV project since “Buffy The Vampire Slayer.”
For one of her current projects, Espenson called in the Whedonverse troops. Felicia Day, Amber Benson, Emma Caulfield and Dichen Lachman will all guest-star in the second season of the web series “Husbands.”
Getting the actors to participate was remarkably easy, Espenson says. “People were so eager to be involved that I definitely could have had twice the number of people that we got. We just simply stopped calling when we had the roles filled,” she tells MTV news.
Espenson credits Whedon, and the loyalty he inspires, for the unexpected turnout.

Eventful week. To play catch-up:
The big news that every site reported in a slightly different way is that Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome will be a digital series and a TV film, but not a TV show, at least not one produced by Syfy/Universal Cable Prods. You have probably read the Deadline article by now.
With the possibility that Universal may still shop B&C around, it doesn't sound like they have any immediate plans to make more of it beyond the existing pilot/web series/Mow.
No word yet on a release date, but Battlestar Wiki reports that we'll be seeing Blood & Chrome as a web series first and then as a TV movie.
Doug Drexler posted this the other day (full post at the link):

Esai Morales: I'm playing Aaron Davidson, thank you. No hablo espanol in this show... I am a politician, District Attorney. I am, I guess, a bit of a quintessential slimeball. Sleazebag is how I've been described,...

Writer-director Michael A. Nickles brings us Playback, a horror film (‘based on true stories’, like many horror films) starring Christian Slater (True Romance), and distributed by Magnolia Pictures’ Magnet Releasing, who’ve also distributed the likes of The Troll Hunter, Hobo with a Shotgun, 13 Assassins, and Gareth Edwards’ brilliant feature debut, Monsters.
Magnet have put out a new red-band trailer for the film through Hulu, via BloodyDisgusting, that definitely earns its red-band rating, so if you’re reading this at work, be sure to come back later to watch it, because there’s blood and gore galore, as well as a little nudity, so you’ve been warned.
“While digging into their town’s infamous past, a group of high school students unwittingly unlock a dark secret, unleashing an evil spirit that takes possession of its victims.”
Along with Slater, who plays the local town cop, the film also stars Johnny Pacar,...

Aleks Paunovic is back in Arctic Air tonight. It's not the first time that he has appeared on the show, but he will have a more central part in tonight's episode, which airs at 9 pm on CBC in Canada. Other familiar faces will probably show up, too. CBC has a new interview with Aleks. Snippets:
You play Jim McAlister on Arctic Air, what is that guy all about?
Jim is a fun-loving best buddy with a big heart. He's stoked to have Bobby (Adam Beach) back in town. He's a prospector and trusts Bobby to the fullest. He'll do anything to protect his friends, family and the North.
What is it like working on a all Canadian production as opposed to a U.S. production that is being filmed in Canada?
I love home grown projects. Most of the U.S. projects are about situations, not about where they are shooting.

Director: Michael Nickles.
Writers: Michael Nickles
Cast: Johnny Pacar, Ambyr Childers, Christian Slater, Jonathan Keltz, Alessandra Torresani, Toby Hemingway, and Jennifer Missoni.
Did you know that one of the actors who plays a highschooler in Playback is thirty-one years old? Some kids get held back for several years in Michael Nickles' (Xii) latest film, Playback. Other random trivia involving this film is the quality: it is poor. Poor transitions between scenes, a floating disjointed soundtrack, and some really dark night shoots put this film in very bad territory. A story of the devil possessing souls through videotape does not even help.
The story begins: several friends begin shooting a film project for a journalism class. Their material is taken from a murder case occurring in the '90s that left four people dead. After doing more and more research, Julian (Johnny Pacar) discovers something about himself and something about the devil.
