Little Fockers = Mean Streets 2...?

11 November 2009 11:57 PM, PST | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

They’ve only made a handful of films together but, given that two of those films can rightly be considered amongst the greatest ever made, it’s fair to say that a Harvey Keitel/Robert De Niro reunion is something most film fans would want to see. And now they’re about to get their wish. For, to the Scorsese double whammy of Mean Streets and Taxi Driver (sorry, James Mangold, but Cop Land doesn’t quite make the list), we can soon add… Little Fockers?!? Oh. Wow. Well, they do say be careful what you wish for.Keitel has signed on to the third film in the Meet The Parents series (to call it a trilogy would be far too grandiose) which will, of course, reunite the comedy team of Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro. Keitel, last heard in Inglourious Basterds (his was the voice on the radio »

Winona Ryder

24 October 2009 1:01 PM, PDT | Interview Magazine | See recent Interview Magazine news »

There was a time when Winona Ryder changed everything. She was like the new prom queen-the one who millions of brainy, brunette girls who'd long since disavowed their interest in prom queens had secretly been waiting for. (Some guys, too.) It was Heathers (1988), a groundbreaking, unsentimental (and very smart and funny) film about a pair of high school outcasts (Ryder and Christian Slater) who wind up taking out a handful of the most popular kids at school, that first earned Ryder favored-actress status amongst those of the Generation Formerly Known as X. That early Ryder image-the dark hair, the porcelain skin, the doe-like, knowing eyes, forever threatening to roll upward-very quickly became burned into peoples' brains. It's a singular, powerful image, and one that many directors have deployed in its variations to great effect, from Tim Burton (Beetlejuice, 1988, and Edward Scissorhands, 1990) to Francis Ford Coppola (Bram Stoker's Dracula, 1992) to Martin Scorsese (The Age of Innocence, »

Newer, Hipper ‘Wolfman’ Trailer Hits Web

21 October 2009 12:15 PM, PDT | The Flickcast | See recent The Flickcast news »

If you were debating whether or not you wanted to see Benicio Del Toro in Wolfman because it was too folky and epic, how would you like it if the film was set to a generic rock tune?

Well, Universal Pictures answered your prayers with the newest trailer for Wolfman. It’s got more Benicio, more Wolf, and a Marilyn Manson soundtrack.

The film itself has had quite a tumultuous post-production. Originally, the film was set to have Mark Romanek (One Hour Photo) as director, who later stepped down. Then, the studio met with names like Brett Ratner, Frank Darabont, James Mangold, and Martin Campbell, until finally deciding on Joe Johnston (The Rocketeer).

Once finished, the film bounced around with three separate release dates, two being in 2009, and then finally sticking to a release of February, 2010. It’s on record that January and February is where movies go to die. »

Wichita Becomes Knight and Day

14 October 2009 11:53 PM, PDT | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

First it was called Trouble Man, then Wichita, then Untitled Wichita Project, but now it seems Fox has finally settled on a title for the action-spy-comedy-thriller starring Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz. It's Knight and Day. Wasn't worth the wait really, was it? Still, it doesn't change the fact that we're liking the sound of the film itself, in which a blind date between Diaz and Cruise turns into a globetrotting, twisting, turning adventure, apparently with some sort of long-life battery as the macguffin.Paul Dano, Peter Sarsgaard, Viola Davis, Olivier Martinez, Maggie Grace and Mark Blucas are the co-stars, and the director is James Mangold (3:10 To Yuma, Walk the Line). The release is pencilled in for next July, by which time the title may well have changed half a dozen more times.  »

According to the official press release for the film, production is underway on the new film, which is currently being shot in Massachusetts, but will also have scenes filmed in Spain, Austria, the tropics, and other international locations.

14 October 2009 8:05 AM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Welcome to Part 2 of our 1999 Movie Retrospective. The final year of the last century was one hell of a cinematic ride and it offered some outstanding films for lovers of cinema.

Now be aware that this is not a definitive list of the films released - it’s a brief rundown highlighting interesting films that should be seen (although not always for the right reasons).

You can check out the first part (A-e) here or continue reading to see the other gems that were released in 1999.

Fight Club

Fight Club was a box office disappointment ten years ago, but it has gained a Huge cult following since - and it must have made an absolute mint on DVD. Brad Pitt and Edward Norton star in this David Fincher directed adaptation of Chuck Palahniuk’s now-famous novel. The film is another example of world perspective from a late 90s view point. »

Tom Cruise's 'Wichita' Turns to 'Knight & Day'

13 October 2009 4:15 PM, PDT | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

Tom Cruise has been in Boston (what, haven't you read the reports of Suri sightings in Beantown?) filming what was previously known as Witchita, a new film from Fox co-starring Cameron Diaz that is billed as a spy comedy romance thriller. Well, the film that has been blowing sh*t up in Massachusetts has the new title Knight & Day, as well as an impressive roster of new cast members.

In addition to Cruise, Diaz, Paul Dano, Maggie Grace, and Marc Blucas, Knight & Day has added Oscar nom Viola Davis, thespian Peter Sarsgaard, and sexpot Olivier Martinez to the cast.

As Jen Yamato pointed out, this sounds like it could be successfully aimed at the female audience, but can audiences accept the idea of Tom Cruise as a Clooney-type dreamboat? Can he still be funny? (Funny on purpose -- not funny like in Valkyrie.) Will female audiences be turned off by Diaz? »

Angelina Jolie To Replace Charlize Theron In “The Tourist”

13 October 2009 3:36 PM, PDT | Filmofilia | See recent Filmofilia news »

Charlize Theron has been attached to “The Tourist” for a long time but she has left the movie and Angelina Jolie is in talks to replace her in the spy thriller.

Sam Worthington (Avatar, Terminator Salvation, Clash of the Titans) replaced Tom Cruise and will probably star alongside Jolie in a remake of the 2005 French movie “Anthony Zimmer.“

Cruise has been considering the lead since August 2008 and Theron joined up that November. Production was supposed to start in March, but was delayed for a number of reasons. Cruise left to do the untitled James Mangold project “Witchita” with Cameron Diaz.

Now things are scheduled to start again in January 2010.

Not only has Theron dropped from the production, but now Spyglass Entertainment producers are also looking for a new director as Bharat Nalluri (Miss Pettigrew Lives For A Day) is off the project.

James Mangold’s Witchita Starring Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz Turns to Knight And Day

13 October 2009 10:24 AM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Previously known as “Witchita” and once known as “Trouble Man”, the upcoming Tom Cruise/Cameron Diaz film will now be titled “Knight and Day”, which sounds like a title Kenneth the Page would come up with when pitching a sitcom about a medieval knight transported to modern times and falling in love with a woman with the last name “Day”.  Hit the jump for details on the film and why its potential success may have little to do with its lead actors.

15 years ago, Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz, would have been able to make this an easy summer blockbuster.  It was only eight years ago when they opened “Vanilla Sky” to a $25 million opening weekend even though it’s an almost shot-for-shot remake of the mindfucking Spanish film, “Abre Los Ojos”.  But 15 years ago, people didn’t think Tom Cruise had gone off the deep end and Cameron Diaz »

Quick Hits: Wichita, Chris Pine, J.J. Abrams, Rachel Nichols

13 October 2009 9:27 AM, PDT | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

First up, that James Mangold action-comedy starring Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz, that originally went under the title of “Wichita”? It’s now got a firm title: “Knight & Day”. Sounds silly, but not if you consider the film’s premise, which has Cruise playing some kind of spy and Diaz the girl who accidentally ends up dating him, and something about a super duper battery that can blow up the sun or some such. Remember, now, it’s supposed to be an action-comedy. From “The truth is stranger than fiction” department … Chris Pine and director D.J. Caruso (”Eagle Eye”) will be teaming up for the real-life drama “The Art of Making Money” for Paramount Pictures. This will be Pine’s second big movie after breaking through with “Star Trek”; he has “Unstoppable” with Denzel Washington coming out soon. “Making Money” will be based on a 2005 Rolling Stone article by Jason Kersten, »

James Mangold’s Wichita Gets a New Title

13 October 2009 3:55 AM, PDT | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

Whenever I go to screenings at the Boston Commons AMC theater, typically my post-screening ritual is to walk a couple of blocks to Boston's version of Chinatown and dine at one of their fine hole-in-the-wall establishments. On one of these occasions, I happened to strike up a conversation with an older gentleman sitting across from me and I quickly discovered that not only was he a cinematographer, but he had worked on some of the most financially and critically successful films of the past few decades. He was currently in Boston to do some shooting on James Mangold's new action comedy, then known as Wichita, starring Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz. Of course, when I tried to tell people that I had met the cinematographer from Wichita, most of them responded by giving me a bizarre look and asking, "What movie?" I don't think the working title Wichita has »

Weekend Movie News Wrap Up: October 4, 2009

4 October 2009 10:49 AM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

This week:

Zombieland eats the competition; Josh Brolin is the new Sean Penn in Cartel; Jessica Alba is added to Fockers; Kim and Kelly get Adjusted; Sarsgaard joins Cruise and Diaz; Sheen, Unger and Nesbitt are Shown The Way by Emilio Estevez.

Zombieland exceeded expectations and managed to reach number one of the top ten at the box office this week. The Woody Harrelson stars in Zombieland and it should make about $25 million this weekend. That’s about a million more than its reported production budget!

Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs should manage another $16 million or so giving the animated film a good $82 million total.

Toy Story I and 2 3D was third giving the animated combo a solid $13 million. Considering that these puppies have been available on DVD for over a decade bodes well for Toy Story 3 3D when it hits next year.

Exclusive: Peter Sarsgaard Reveals he’s in James Mangold’s Wichita with Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz

1 October 2009 10:37 PM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Earlier today, I attended the Los Angeles press day for “An Education”. The film is a coming-of-age story about a teenage girl (Carey Mulligan) in 1960s suburban London and how her life changes after meeting a man nearly twice her age (Peter Sarsgaard). It’s a great movie and something worth checking out.

Anyway, towards the end of my interview with Peter, I asked what he’d be doing next. He revealed he’s about to leave for Boston to be in director James Mangold’s “Wichita” opposite Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz. When I asked what character he’d be playing, he’d only say he was Tom Cruise’s foil. Does that mean he’s the villain? I don’t know. But I do know he hadn’t been announced as part of the cast yet. Watch what he said about “Wichita” after the jump:
