There was a rumor floated recently by CineFools that Vin Diesel had dropped out of xXx: The Return of Xander Cage. If you heard that rumor and freaked out, you can now turn red ’cause Diesel’s publicist emailed MTV and said it was untrue. This is exactly what was said in that email:
“I made a few calls on this and I can tell you that it is completely not true.“
The action-packed xXx franchise began with Diesel in 2002, when he played the extreme sports athlete-turned government operative, Xander Cage. xXx: State of the Union (2005) ripped Cage away from us and replaced him with Ice Cube’s Darius Stone. The third installment in the franchise is to be directed by Ericson Core, who brought us Invincible and was the cinematographer on Daredevil.
It was suspected the Deisel had dropped out of The Return of Xander Cage because director Rob Cohen, »

So late last week a movie site posted “exclusive news” from a “trusted source” that said Vin Diesel had bailed on the “xXx” sequel, “The Return of Xander Cage”, and speculated that the reason could be Rob Cohen leaving the project to direct his movie “Medieval”. We didn’t post that news, mostly because, well, I didn’t buy it. Vin Diesel knows that returning to the “xXx” franchise will result in some major bucks at the box office, and get his career right back there in the A-list stratosphere (and give him two major hits in a roll, along with the recent “Fast & Furious”), so why would he walk away just because Rob Cohen wasn’t directing it? Made no sense to me, so I didn’t post it. According to MTV, there’s a reason the news didn’t make sense: probably because it’s untrue. The word comes from Diesel’s publicist, »

The prolific cult director also talks about directing
Fans of true cult cinema have a reason to rejoice this Halloween season, as Fred Dekker, the mastermind behind the hugely popular The Monster Squad, is finally bringing his elusive, long absent underground horror hit Night of the Creeps to DVD and Blu-ray on October 27th. To help celebrate the release, we recently caught up with the prolific director for a no holds barred interview that covers his whole career (including his own ruminations about the much maligned RoboCop 3 some fifteen years after its release). It's a great interview that you can read below in our DVD section. While discussing Night of the Creeps, Dekker spoke more about his plans for a sequel which would reunite the entire cast some twenty years after the events of that faithful night in 1986. He also discussed the upcoming Rob Cohen remake of his beloved The Monster Squad, »

The most elusive cult creeper ever made finally makes its way to DVD and Blu-ray October 27th!
Night of the Creeps has become one of the most sought after late night cult creepers ever made. After hitting the video store circuit in the mid-80s on VHS tape (and VHS alone), the film quickly disappeared. It would later crawl out from late night cable television on that rare occasion, like some long dormant creature hungry for flesh. It's never been re-released on any medium, and has only made a handful of appearances at the local midnight theater. Despite that fact, Fred Dekker's amazing 1986 ode to aliens, zombies, and high school romps has developed a rabid following over the years. Revolving around squirmy black leeches that possess a town full of teenagers and treats them like puppets on prom night, it's a hard film to shake. And the fact that »

In my opinion Requiem for a Dream is one of those films you like, but aren't going to return to on a consistent basis primarily because doing so would lead you on your own spiral of depression. As a result, trying to decide whether you should buy it or not is a tough call and seeing how I didn't own it before receiving the Blu-ray for review doesn't make my recommendation -- one way or the other -- any easier. What I can say is after what I believe to be my third time seeing the movie, it holds up just as well as it did the first time around and this Blu-ray only makes it better. Requiem serves as a brutal look at addiction. Whether its drugs, television, sugar, or whatever vice you can think of, this film has addiction nailed to the wall and brings it to life using music, »

The third installment in the XXX opus is on its way, and Columbia Pictures has hired Ericson Core to direct it. Titled XXX: The Return of Xander Cage, relative newcomer Core (Invincible) will need to be approved by Vin Diesel, though Core and Diesel have worked together previously on The Fast And the Furious where Core acted as cinematographer.
XXX director Rob Cohen was originally supposed to reunite with Diesel. When Cohen backed out to direct Medieval, he called the decision to leave "tough" and hoped the production would wait for him. Apparently, it hasn't.
The script for The Return of Xander Cage was written by Terminator Salvation writers John Brancato and Michael Ferris, and will follow Cage's return to the National Security Agency after an absence of eight years.

Columbia Pictures has hired Ericson Core to direct "XXX: The Return of Xander Cage," the third installment in the action franchise. Neal Moritz and Joe Roth are producing.
Vin Diesel will return as Xander Cage, an extreme sports athlete-turned-government agent. Rob Cohen directed the original "XXX," but both star and director decided to ignore the 2005 sequel, "XXX: State of the Union," which starred Ice Cube and was helmed by Lee Tamahori.
Cohen agreed to return as director last year, but dropped off and chose to work on "Medieval" instead.
The hiring of the new director must also get the approval from Diesel. The actor worked with Core before in the 2001 movie "The Fast and the Furious." Core was a cinematographer in that film.
Core made his directorial debut with the 2006 football flick "Invincible."

Whatever you may think of Vin Diesel as an actor, you have to admire his dedication to his franchises. I mean, who else but Diesel would hang in for another round of extreme adventure sports and espionage? About a year ago we got the news that Diesel was reuniting with Rob Cohen for another installment of the xXx franchise, but according to The Hollywood Reporter there has been a small personnel change, and now Ericson Core (Invincible) will be stepping in to direct since Cohen is off to work on his period actioner Medieval.
Diesel likes to be in control of his franchises and xXx was no exception. Apparently, the muscly actor had to give Core his blessing before the Dp/ Director could get to work, although I'm sure their previous working relationship on Fast and Furious probably helped. According to reports, the film will be called xXx: The Return of Xander Cage, »

News has surfaced, by way of The Hollywood Reporter, stating that a new director has been found for xXx: The Return of Xander Cage, the third installment in Columbia Pictures’ action series. Last year both star Vin Diesel and Rob Cohen (director of the first installment) agreed to join forces for a third film, but in June this year Cohen bailed to direct Medieval. The new director is Ericson Core (Invincible), who’s worked with Diesel before as the Cinematographer on The Fast and the Furious.
Diesel starred in the original xXx back in 2002, but both he and director Cohen skipped the second film, xXx: State of the Union, starring Ice Cube and directed by Lee Tamahori.
Diesel was somewhat of a hot name at the time of xXx, but for some reason he thought it best to skip both the sequel and two of the Fast and the Furious »

Core's recent directing gigs include 2006's sports drama "Invincible" with Mark Wahlberg. Rob Cohen, who helmed the first "xXx," was attached to return as well, but he recently dropped out to direct "Medieval" instead. »

The next XXX director seems like an appropriate choice, if only because his name also sounds like an action hero’s.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, director Ericson Core has gotten Vin Diesel’s thumbs-up, and will be helming XXX: The Return of Xander Cage, the second sequel to the 2002 movie which starred Diesel.
Cage is an extreme sports athlete who gets recruited by a government agency, and subsequently acts as their operative. Rob Cohen, who directed the first XXX, agreed to come back to the series last year; however, by June he opted to go direct Medievel for Regency instead.
That left Columbia looking for the franchise’s new handler. Luckily, Core, who previously worked as a cinematographer, served as director of photography for The Fast and the Furious, a 2001 movie that starred Diesel. Thanks to their prior working relationship, Core got the star’s blessing and the job. »

We heard last year that Vin Diesel had signed on to reprise his role [1] as secret agent/extreme sports enthusiast Xander Cage in a new xXx flick, and that Rob Cohen (The Fast and the Furious, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor) would be returning to direct as well. Both of them skipped the original xXx sequel, xXx: State of the Union, which starred Ice Cube as the slightly less athletic spy Darius Stone. However, a couple of months ago Rob Cohen dropped out of the project [2] in order to take on Medieval, a movie he describes as "The Magnificent Seven in the Middle Ages". Now a new director has been named as his replacement. According to The Hollywood Reporter [3], Ericson Core will direct xXx: The Return of Xander Cage, which Columbia is hoping to shoot early next year. The Hollywood Reporter has claimed that USC Film School grad Ericson Core, Dp for films such as The Fast and the Furious and Daredevil (and director of Invincible), will be handling directing duties on the third xXx film.
The sequel, entitled XXX: The Return of Xander Cage, will bring back Vin Diesel into the fold — the second franchise he’s returned to in an effort to rebuild some faith with audiences. While originally the film was supposed to be directed by Rob Cohen, who handled the first film, some key players from the project are still in place.
Particularly, Michael Ferris and John Brancato (writers of Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines and Catwoman) have formed a script which has been polished by the writer of the original film, Richard Wilkes.
Vin Diesel has approved Core’s presence on the film, likely due to a good relationship on the set »

Though original director Rob Cohen has dropped his involvement in "XXX: The Return of Xander Cage", Columbia Pictures apparently is moving forward with the action movie project. The studio has tapped cinematographer-turned-director Ericson Core to fill the empty director seat and helm the third installment of the "XXX" franchise.
By replacing Cohen for "The Return of Xander Cage", this cinematographer of 2003 superhero movie "Daredevil" will once again team up with Vin Diesel. He was the director of photography of Diesel-starring "The Fast and the Furious". In 2006, he launched his directing career with NFL drama "Invincible".
As for Cohen, he was agreed to reteam with Diesel when the idea of a second sequel for the "XXX" series was thrown in back in 2008. However, in June 2009, the director of "The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor" became attached to a feature project from 20th Century Fox called "Medieval".
