The CW continues to make big moves, canceling much of its original lineup (most recently Kung Fu and The Winchesters) as it figures out the direction to take under new owner Nexstar. Today they made another major move, picking up 61st Street after AMC canceled the drama.
The eight-episode first season starring Courtney B. Vance premiered on AMC on April 10, 2022. A second season was filmed, however, the series was canceled before it aired.
“61st Street is a gripping, star-studded premium drama led by a powerhouse performance from Courtney B. Vance and featuring an incredibly talented ensemble cast and creatively brilliant team of producers,” stated Brad Schwartz, President of Entertainment, The CW Network. “We are proud The CW is now the broadcast home of 61st Street and cannot wait to introduce this series to a whole new audience.

The CW’s latest acquisition comes from an unlikely place: AMC.
The broadcast network has picked up both seasons of the drama series 61st Street from AMC. The legal thriller stars Courtney B. Vance as an attorney defending a high school athlete (Tosin Cole) who get swept up in Chicago’s corrupt criminal justice system.
AMC picked up the series with a two-season order and aired the first installment in the spring of 2022. Despite season two already being finished, however, AMC scrapped the conclusion — part of a wave of cost-cutting un-renewals at several outlets in late 2022 and early 2023. The first season is set to air in the fall on The CW, with the unseen season two set for 2024.
“There was a lot of love and hard work that went into making 61st Street,” Vance said in a statement. “I’m thrilled that The CW has enthusiastically given all 16 episodes of 61st Street a network home.

Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches is set to fly again after being renewed for a second season at AMC.
The cable network is bringing back the series, which along with Interview with a Vampire is part of its extended Anne Rice universe, after becoming its number one new series premiere on its streaming service AMC+.
This comes despite a plethora of recent cancelations at AMC Networks. The company pulled Demascus and Invitation to a Bonfire as well as second seasons of Pantheon, Moonhaven and 61st Street, which were in various stages of completion and production, as part of a major cost-cutting drive.
Mayfair Witches, which is based on Rice’s trilogy of books, focuses on an intuitive young neurosurgeon, Rowan Fielding, played by Alexandra Daddario, who discovers that she is the unlikely heir to a family of witches. As she grapples with her newfound powers, she must contend with a...

With AMC’s upcoming courtroom drama 61st Street, executive producer and writer J. David Shanks hopes to “spark conversation” that would continue to push the U.S. toward “meaningful, sustained change” with regard to systemic injustice, racially motivated police brutality and other issues.
“We want to have a healthy discussion in a safe environment,” Shanks said during the show’s TCA panel on Tuesday. “Nothing changes if we don’t continue to talk about it.”
The series from BAFTA winner Peter Moffat follows Moses Johnson (Tosin Cole), a promising Black high school athlete who is swept up into the infamously corrupt Chicago criminal justice system, and Franklin Roberts (Courtney B. Vance), the public defender who takes up his case. While Roberts has promised his wife he’ll retire, he takes on this case because he recognizes its potential to upend the entire Chicago judicial system, challenging the institutional racism and endemic corruption at its heart.

The mysteries continue on the penultimate episode of Jason Segel’s “Dispatches From Elsewhere,” as Janice and Simone discuss why Simone’s relationship with Peter didn’t work out and come to find Peter not being “ready” wasn’t their only obstacle.
In TheWrap’s exclusive clip from Monday’s episode, titled “The Creator,” Janice (Sally Field) and Simone (Eve Lindley) have a heart-to-heart chat about what could have been between Simone and Peter (Segel), who seemingly fell in love while playing the “game” they now know to be fake — or is it? — but couldn’t survive beyond one date in the real world.
“You two seemed so good together,” Janice says to Simone, as the two take a walk.

AMC today released the official key art and a “Look at the Series” video from Jason Segel’s upcoming original anthology series Dispatches from Elsewhere, created by and starring Segel. The video features behind-the-scenes interviews with Segel, Academy® and Emmy® Award-winner Sally Field (“Janice”), multi-grammy® Award-winner André Benjamin (“Fredwynn”) and rising star Eve Lindley (“Simone”). The ten-hour series is centered around four ordinary people who feel there’s something missing in their lives, but they can’t quite put their finger on what it is. This diverse foursome is brought together by chance – or perhaps it’s by design – when they stumble onto a puzzle hiding just behind the veil of everyday life. As they begin to accept the mysterious ‘Dispatches from Elsewhere’ challenges, they come to find that the mystery winds deeper than they imagined, and their eyes are opened to a world of possibility and magic. Updated with trailer. AMC’s forthcoming Dispatches From Elsewhere is an interesting series. The 10-episode anthology created by and starring Jason Segel is a self-reflective, transcendental series about a group of ordinary people who stumble onto a puzzle hiding just behind the veil of everyday life. The series also stars Outkast’s Andre Benjamin, Oscar-winning actress Sally Field and breakout Eve Lindley. All were on hand at TCA to talk about the new series.
Through its nuanced, Michel Gondry-esque storytelling, Segel aimed to do an “artistic check-in”. For almost a decade, he said “Who I was was dictated to me for the longest time — and I wanted to explore that.” While doing so, he created his show and, in turn, subtly created an inclusive space for trans characters and women.
In Dispatches From Elsewhere, Lindley plays his love interest, Simone and for the first time in her career, she...

It’s closing time at Lodge 49 — this time for good, it appears. After about six weeks of attempting to shop the quirky comedy after its cancellation by AMC, series creator Jim Gavin threw in the towel via social media today. The two-season series wasn’t able to find a new home.
“It breaks my heart to announce that Lodge 49 won’t be going forward,” Jim Gavin tweeted to fans this afternoon. “We tried very hard to find a new home, but there were no takers. Ratings, metrics, algorithms…que sera, brah.”
He and showrunner Peter Ocko and executive producer Paul Giamatti had tried to find a landing place for the acclaimed series, but today Gavin vowed to “write a proper postscript soon” and followed up with a series of tweets. Read them all below.

We don’t know what “Lodge 49” is about either, but perhaps we can learn together by watching the Season 2 trailer, which AMC released on Thursday.
Ok, we just watched it and we still don’t know what “Lodge 49” is about. Fortunately, AMC has some idea — we think — perhaps the cable channel’s official Season 2 description will enlighten us.
Season 2 of this modern fable set in Long Beach, Calif. centers on likable “Squire” and ex-surfer Sean “Dud” Dudley (Wyatt Russell), whose beloved fraternal order — the Ancient and Benevolent Order of the Lynx — is suffering under new rule by an ill-suited leader. Despite his “Knight” and mentor Ernie’s (Brent Jennings) lost faith, and his twin sister Liz’s (Sonya Cassidy) struggle with their past, Dud believes he is the key to restoring the Lodge to its former grandeur and putting the rightful king on the throne.
Nope. No, that didn’t do it either.

AMC is picking up its intriguing and successful Better Call Saul time slot companion, Lodge 49, for Season 2.
Lodge 49 Season 2 was not inevitable.
Despite having a solid Better Call Saul lead-in, Lodge 49 was a real risky proposition for AMC. The first season of the show was about as experimental as TV show offerings can get. It came from longtime fiction writer yet TV novice, Jim Gavin. It starred relative unknowns Wyatt Russell and Brent Jennings.
It was a quirky, light-hearted comedy, but also danced around the edges of some real mystical stuff. Today, however, that initial risk pays off for AMC as the network has announced that it was renewed Lodge 49 for Season 2.

Ahead of its season one finale on Monday, AMC has ordered a 10-episode second season of its critically praised series Lodge 49, from creator Jim Gavin, showrunner Peter Ocko and executive producer Paul Giamatti, for premiere in 2019.
Lodge 49 is a light-hearted modern fable set in Long Beach, California, starring Wyatt Russell as disarmingly optimistic local ex-surfer Sean “Dud” Dudley, who’s drifting after the death of his father and collapse of the family business.
In season one, Dud found himself on the doorstep of a rundown fraternal lodge, where a middle-aged plumbing salesman and “Luminous Knight” of the order welcomes him into a world of domestic beer, easy camaraderie and the promise of Alchemical mysteries that may — or may not — put Dud on the path to recover the idyllic life he’s lost.
Gavin returns for Season 2, along with Ocko as executive producer and showrunner.

AMC first described “Lodge 49” as “a show that defies easy categorization,” and that’s certainly true. It’s technically a drama thanks to its hour-long runtime, but otherwise feels more like a stretched out hangout sitcom with startling moments of nihilism baked in where the laugh track should be. It doesn’t just defy easy categorization as a TV show unto itself; it defies expectations of what an AMC might, or should, look like, not quite fitting into any of the network’s previously established tones.
Created by author Jim Gavin, “Lodge 49” follows a group of people working through their frustrations and longing for something — anything — more in Long Beach, California. Twins “Dud” (Wyatt Russell) and Liz (Sonya Cassidy) are reeling and flailing after the sudden, mysterious death of their father, but their coping mechanisms and way of tackling problems send them spinning in opposite directions. Liz, who co-signed...

“Monday nights have become a destination for our character-driven dramas, and we loved the idea of pairing these two series, which are similar in their darkly comedic tone and led by two charming yet complicated characters facing huge life moments,” said David Madden, president of original programming for AMC, SundanceTV and AMC Studios. “We’re excited to share the next chapter in Jimmy McGill’s journey towards Saul on one of television’s most celebrated shows, and to introduce viewers to the unfailingly optimistic underdog Dud, who...

We finally know when you’ll see the next of Bob Odenkirk’s Jimmy McGill — and definitely no more of Chuck. AMC announced Thursday that “Better Call Saul” Season 4 will premiere on Aug. 6, with the network’s new Wyatt Russell and Brent Jennings-led series “Lodge 49” debuting right after.
And it’s about time, seeing as the “Breaking Bad” prequel series aired its Season 3 finale last June.
