Reese Witherspoon was one of the A-list celebrities who paid tribute to Nicole Kidman on Saturday as she received the Life Achievement Award from the American Film Institute (AFI). Not surprisingly, Witherspoon dressed in black for the occasion.

It’s no secret that the 48-year-old Sweet Home Alabama actress has gone through several different styles over the years. Remember her Legally Blonde era? She used to embrace a feminine, delicate style but now prefers a more mature, glamorous look that fits her age.
Reese is known for her love of timeless black dresses, which, although polished and elegant, can often become boring—like the outfit she wore to the PaleyFest LA. I’m glad her recent red carpet appearance wasn’t as dull as expected.

The Directors Guild of America held its 76th annual awards tonight at the Beverly Hilton. Christopher Nolan took home the night’s top honor for Oppenheimer. Celine Song took home the prize for first-time theatrical film for Past Lives.
The DGA is a strong predictor of Oscar success historically, missing the eventual Best Director winner only eight times in 75 years. The group handed its top trophy to the Daniels for Everything Everywhere All at Once last year, and Daniel Kwan & Daniel Scheinert went on to snag the Academy Award a month later, becoming only the third duo to claim that prized statuette.

Jesus Christ, that's Jason Bourne ... again.
In a bit of breaking news from Deadline, it looks like Edward Berger, the Academy Award-winning director of "All Quiet On The Western Front" will be following up his World War I anti-war film by helming the next installment of one of the biggest American action franchises of all time. According to Deadline's sources, Universal Pictures is looking to revisit the "Bourne" franchise, with Berger following in the footsteps of directors Doug Liman, Paul Greengrass, and Tony Gilroy. The film is said to still be in early development, Berger is still in negotiations, and a script has yet to be written, and Universal did not provide a comment to confirm any of the information. As it stands, Berger would be the only attachment to the project at the time of deal-making.

While Fox News has made very clear over the years where its messaging stands when it comes to the urgency of climate change, anchors on “The Big Saturday Show” felt they were given all-new reason to sound their alarm with the release of Neon’s “How to Blow Up a Pipeline.”
Featuring a story inspired by Andreas Malm’s 2021 nonfiction release of the same name, the indie feature comes from director Daniel Goldhaber, who co-wrote the screenplay with Ariela Barer and Jordan Sjol. Admitting that he hadn’t seen the film himself — “I went through and watched the trailer, watched parts of it” — Fox News co-host David Webb torched the project as “leftist Hollywood propaganda” on Saturday, while other panelists raised questions about the existence of climate change at all.

The scene where 2012’s The Bourne Legacy first comes truly alive features neither parkour or car chases; it also lacks fisticuffs or a single gunshot; heck, it doesn’t even have Matt Damon. To be sure, the fourth (and generally ignored) film in the Jason Bourne franchise has its fair share of death-defying stunts and white-knuckle action. However, the movie really clicks to life when a coterie of bureaucrats gather inside a windowless room, sharing hushed whispers.
The scene is dominated by who was intended to be the series’ new big heavy, Col. Eric Bryer (Edward Norton), who is revealed to be the Director of the National Research Assay Group. This is essentially a fictional version of Darpa, the research and development agency that operates within the the U.S. Department of Defense and is responsible for developing emerging technologies for military use. In the world of Jason Bourne, that means the infamous “Operation Treadstone,...

As the first televised awards show of 2023, expectations were high for Tuesday night’s Golden Globes — not only for who would take home the trophies and how the broadcast might fare after last year’s absence, but also how style might play a role on the red carpet, especially as it was predicted that rain might dampen the festivities at the Beverly Hilton. The verdict? The skies stayed clear, and Globes fashion is back with a splash.
The ladies of Hollywood embraced both colors and metallics in gowns trimmed with romantic beading and ruffles, while the industry’s leading men wore beautifully fitted tuxes trimmed with unique details. On the red carpet Natasha Lyonne is a complete joy, marvelling at her career ('slow and steady wins the race!'). While Laverne Cox is still giving complete chaos as an interviewer, it's generated some fun moments like this exchange with her Orange is the New Black co-star.
Laverne: What story are you talling us with this look?
Natasha: I'm telling you rain-proof. Noah's Ark could come and I'd be ready in my two zebras: Givenchy. David Webb.
Laverne Cox: This is how you prepare for Noah's Ark?
Natasha: Well you know that from the Bible. It's all right there in black and white so I'm just following God's wishes as usual.
We'll be back later with a rundown of best moments, the best tables (which one will have the most fun?), and the winners but for now use this space to discuss the red carpet and the big night.

London, Dec 24 (Ians) Brentford head coach Thomas Frank on Saturday signed a new five-year contract, which will run until the summer of 2027.
The 49-year-old was appointed Bees boss in October 2018 and led the club to promotion to the Premier League in 2020-21.
The Dane guided Brentford to a 13th-place finish last term. The major performances included an opening-night victory against Arsenal, a 3-3 draw with Liverpool in September and 4-1 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in April.
“Being a head coach at a club is like a relationship; there are highs and lows. I have been here six years in total, which is a long time in modern football, and I’d like to say thank you to the fans for the support you give us – the players, the staff, everyone involved with the club,” Frank said after signing his new contract.

New York’s fashion industry congregated at current hotspot Cipriani South Street on Nov. 7 to honor the best of American design at the annual Cfda Awards, the first time the ceremony has returned to its full format since prior to the Covid-19 pandemic — the 2021 event was a truncated, less formal affair that took place at the iconic The Grill and The Pool restaurants in Midtown Manhattan.
Catherine Holstein of Khaite and Emily Adams Bode, founder of eponymous brand, Bode, were among the night’s big winners as American Womenswear and Menswear Designers of the Year, respectively. Raul Lopez of Luar, known for its coveted handbags with oversized handles, captured American Accessory Designer of the Year, while Wisconsin-born Elena Velez, who blends a Midwestern aesthetic with gritty details to create looks that feel wholly modern, took home the prize for American Emerging Designer of the Year.

But this year, was her first time hosting the music awards show, and Perry mixed things up with a few toned-down, glamorous looks that marked a departure form her wilder past outfits. I tell myself that it will be just until a certain scene or bit of dialogue but the fact is I usually wind up watching them through to the final credits. When this happens late at night, I can wind up staying awake for far too long and suffer for it the next day.
The Bourne series of movies fall into this category. They include The Bourne Identity/Supremacy/Ultimatum and Jason Bourne but not The Bourne Legacy which, despite its name, has no Jason Bourne...

An Oregon main is accused of decapitating his mother on Sunday and carrying her severed head and a knife with him into a rural grocery store where — covered in blood — he allegedly stabbed a clerk who then detained him with the aid of other store workers, People confirms.
The Clackamas County, Oregon, Sheriff’s Office identified the suspect as 36-year-old Joshua Lee Webb, of Colton, Oregon, and said the victim in the Mother’s Day slaying was his mother, 59-year-old Tina Webb.
“My wife was wonderful,” Tina’s husband, David Webb, told The Oregonian. “I’ve been married to her for almost 41 years.

RIHANNANo one does Grammys style like Rihanna. She always leaves jaws on the red carpet, which is why she’s my favorite star ever year. Let’s start with her custom Armani Privé crop top. Covered in tangerine crystals, the halter-style topper was made to showcase the star’s famous tattoo. Teamed with a voluminous tiered black silk organza skirt, waist-grazing waves and David Webb jewelry, the entire look feels like nothing that’s been done before.–Brittany Talarico, Senior Style Editor

There is a weight and heaviness to being Jason Bourne, nee David Webb, given that your life is constantly being manipulated and/or endangered. Trust doesn’t come easily and those around him tend to get hurt. Through three films, we’ve thrilled to Matt Damon’s interpretation of Robert Ludlum’s espionage hero in part thanks to the excellent filmmaking from directors Paul Greengrass and Doug Liman.
After skipping an installment that shifted the focus to a new agent played by Jeremy Renner, Greengrass and Damon returned this summer with Jason Bourne. Things have changed since 2007’s The Bourne Ultimatum as skullduggery has increasingly gone digital so the lengths required to keep secrets buried have to go further. The film, out now from Universal Home Entertainment, explores what all that means.

Matt Damon is back cracking skulls and tracking down heartless bureaucrats this weekend in “Jason Bourne,” playing the title role for the first time in nearly a decade. The movie has a hard act to follow, coming after a pretty perfect trilogy of films that closed the loop on Jason Bourne/David Webb. But before you […]

In every movie in the Bourne series (except for Legacy), there comes that moment. You know the one. Some shadowy government scumbag is convinced they’ve got the drop on Bourne, and they’re celebrating their accomplishment only to have the phone ring or the computer screen come on just in time for Bourne to tell them that he’s looking at them through a sniper’s scope or he’s recorded them threatening to kill the President or he’s got naked pictures of them and a goat, and as they realize just how screwed they are, here comes the Moby on the soundtrack and there goes Bourne, back into the shadows until next time. The problem is, the charm has definitely faded, and Jason Bourne proves to be one trip too many to the well, lapsing into accidental self-parody in places. There are scenes I dug and a few set-pieces that work,...

Over the course of three movies from 2002-2007, Matt Damon explored the essential question of the Bourne franchise: who is Jason Bourne? Ultimatum gave him (and us) the answer: Jason Bourne is David Webb, a former soldier who volunteered to be a part of Treadstone, a secret organization that essentially turned him into a killing machine. With his identity issues finally solved, the story came to an end...or so we thought.
Damon has reunited with director Paul Greengrass to continue the saga with Jason Bourne, which picks up years later and finds Webb — who I'll call "Bourne" from here on out to make things easy — engaging in underground street fights around the world in order to punch his pain away. He's still haunted by what he's done (his greatest hits are helpfully provided in flashbacks for those who haven't rewatched the trilogy in a while), and when his old...

"Oh my God... that's Jason Bourne!" The dynamic duo of Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass are back in the latest installment in Universal Pictures' blockbuster Bourne franchise - Jason Bourne. The first batch of reviews landed earlier this morning and it looks like David Webb's return may not be quite as spectacular as his exit was in 2007's The Bourne Ultimatum, but despite that, it still sounds like the combination of Damon & Greengrass - two of the best in the world at what they do - makes this fifth entry in the long-running spy series a more than worthwhile watch. The script seems to have a few issues here and there, and at times sounds like it's equal parts complicated and/or not complicated enough with a strong start and a somewhat weaker finish. Many critics admit that while the film doesn't exactly break new ground and feels very familiar at times,...

All good things come to an end, and once they do, they’re usually better off left that way. So now we have “Jason Bourne,” a sequel to a franchise that didn’t need continuation. The first three chapters in the “Bourne” franchise were a rarity among modern American action movies: smart, fast and fun, they rarely wasted a frame — and best of all, they ended in peak form, with the relentless “The Bourne Ultimatum” in 2007. But the studio had other ideas, pressing ahead with another tale of a brainwashed government henchman rebelling against his overlords in “The Bourne Legacy” after Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass had their fill. Now Damon and Greengrass have been coaxed back to resuscitate the series’ appeal, but even they can’t seem to muster more than a shrug.

I'm going to see a screening of Jason Bourne later tonight, and because of the insanity of Comic-Con over the past few days, I haven't had a chance to rewatch Matt Damon's original Bourne trilogy. It's been a few years since I've seen those films, so I was sort of bummed that I wouldn't be able to go into the new movie with a fresh reminder of exactly what went down in Identity, Supremacy, and Ultimatum.
But here comes Damon, metaphorically crashing through my computer screen to deliver exactly what I'm asking for! He narrates this video, which succinctly recaps the entire trilogy in 90 seconds...which, come to think of it, almost sounds like the kind of task that Bourne (or David Webb) himself would have to do, complete with the ticking clock angle.
If you want to see a slightly less succinct version, check out Burger Fiction's recap...

Operation Treadstone. Blackbriar. David Webb. It’s fair to say that parsing the lore of one Jason Bourne can prove quite difficult, particularly if you haven’t checked in on Matt Damon’s elusive super-spy since Ultimatum in 2007.
Leave it to Damon, then, to get you up to speed on all things Jason Bourne by recapping Universal’s celebrated action franchise in 90 seconds or less. Quietly ignoring the mooted spinoff of Legacy, the series stalwart recounts the events of Identity, Supremacy and Ultimatum. It’s the CliffNotes version, essentially, and though we wouldn’t consider it an out-an-out alternative to marathoning all three movies, it’s a concise info dump for those who have forgotten some pertinent details in the intervening years.

It's been nearly a decade, but the wait is almost over. Universal Pictures has debuted a brand new clip (via Uproxx) from the highly anticipated Paul Greengrass-directed film featuring Matt Damon getting creative with some nearby tools to take down a new foe. Uproxx also provides a few juicy details on where we'll find Bourne at the beginning of the film. According to their report, he's been hiding out in Greece, earning money in bare-fisted brawls, which as you've seen in the trailers, have more or less been a piece of cake. The clip picks up a short while after Bourne receives some very sensitive information from an old friend regarding his past and the training program that turned good ol' David Webb into the Bourne we know and love. He proceeds to break into a man's apartment, someone that initially comes across as an ally, and as he's deciphering the new intel,...

Within the next seven months, new films featuring three of modern cinema's most badass action heroes - Jason Bourne, Jack Reacher, and John Wick - will be hitting theaters, which means we're about to see a ton of baddies get their faces punched in. Universal Pictures has released an extended TV spot for the Paul Greengrass-directed Jason Bourne, which sees Matt Damon return as the titular hero, and based on the spot, it looks like we'll be further exploring David Webb's past as he seeks the truth behind his father's tragic death, which until now, he believed to have been the doing of terrorists. Ever since the first look trailer at the Super Bowl, we've heard Bourne shout "I volunteered because of a lie" and now we know exactly which lie led him to enlisting with the CIA and you can bet he's not happy about it. Matt Damon is returning for the fifth film in the "Bourne" series, and if you bet on "Jason Bourne" as the official title, you were right. And you were probably lying. Every other "Bourne" film, including the one that starred Jeremy Renner instead of the actual Bourne, was called "The Bourne [Something]." So this is an unorthodox title and gives us a clue that they may be trying something different across the board.
The first trailer -- shown during the 2016 Super Bowl -- and poster emphasize, James Bond-style, that we know this guy's name. Maybe it's meant to show how the man who could be calling himself David Webb or any other name (Tyler Durden?) is now embracing his Bourne to Kill status, after a long (presumed dead?) absence since 2007's "The Bourne Ultimatum."

The plot of Universal's upcoming Bourne sequel, which features the return of director Paul Greengrass & franchise star Matt Damon, has been shrouded in mystery. No one knows what brings Jason Bourne back into the public eye. However, thanks to Entertainment Weekly's "First Look" feature, we have our first official photo of Damon back in action as Bourne, which you can view above. Additionally, without revealing too much, Damon shared that when we are reintroduced to Jason Bourne a.k.a. Captain David Webb, it'll be twelve years after The Bourne Ultimatum, which was set in 2004, and that "We find him in a dark and tortured place." He also touches on the setting, which is a world not dissimilar to our own: "There’s been the financial collapse, the great recession, all these issues of cyberwarfare and civil liberties." This new complex world will serve as a backdrop for the highly anticipated sequel's story,...

Well, this is awesome! We don't often see Vincent Cassel in Hollywood films, but among the handful he's done are "Ocean's Twelve" and "Ocean's Thirteen." The last time we saw Nicky Parsons was at the very end of "The Bourne Ultimatum." Operation Blackbriar had been exposed, David Webb's name was made public but there was just one problem....his body still hadn't be found. And that news brings a smile to Nicky's face in the terrific final scene that marked a great close to a trilogy of films. But after much convincing Paul Greengrass and Matt Damon are back in 'Bourne' mode, and they'll have a familiar face to join them in the adventure. Deadline reports that Julia Stiles will reprise her role as Nicky in "Bourne 5." Granted, the character wasn't always given the most interesting things to do, but she's a key part of Jason Bourne's story, and Stiles was always solid in her performance. Of course, there are no plot details right now so don't ask. But unlike the tumultuous productions of past Bourne films,...

I enjoyed about 65% of The Bourne Legacy, the Jeremy Renner-starring spin-off of the original Bourne trilogy. The entire third act was a complete joke, but I was with it up until that point, and I thought it did a pretty good job pulling back the curtain to reveal some larger scheming and machinations that had been going on during the events of the first three films. Universal was all set to put out a sequel to that film with Justin Lin on board to direct, but against all odds, they were able to convince Paul Greengrass and Matt Damon to return to reprise their roles as director and star (respectively) in a brand new Bourne film, so the Legacy sequel was pushed back.

News that Universal had collared Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass to reteam for another chapter in the Bourne series is not a surprise. Even while Jeremy Renner took on the series mantle in his brief time under the New Action Hero spotlight he still lived in the shadow of the duo. Now the popular spy series is set to be reborn.
