It was the 1960s and a foursome took over the popular music charts in America, but they didn’t wear mop-tops. Right before the British Invasion, the girl group known as the Shirelles soared with hits such as “Dedicated to the One I Love,” “Soldier Boy,” “Will You Still Me Tomorrow,” and “Baby It’s You,” amongst many others. The Shirelles were discovered by Florence Greenberg, an ambitious and very prescient New Jersey housewife who founded Scepter Records, and consequently changed the face of popular music forever. In her business life, Greenberg was a woman who dove right into the middle of a male-dominated record industry and created one of the most successful independent labels of the time, and on the personal side, she left her first marriage for a union with African-American songwriter Luther Dixon. The story of Greenberg, »

Funnyman Arsenio Hall will always have fond feelings for ex-girlfriend Paula Abdul - because she was great in bed and she laughed so hard she would pee.
The pair dated in the late 1980s and reports suggest they recently rekindled their romance.
Hall has dismissed the rumours, but admits he'll always cherish the time he spent as the Straight Up singer's lover.
He says, "I know that everybody has opinions about Paula and what she's about, but my experiences with her - best girl to hang with on the planet. Me and Paula would laugh so much... Paula would laugh and then pee... There's nothing more important than having a woman get your sense of humour, and for your woman to pee is like a standing ovation.
"I was madly in love with her... That's my girl to death and I'm always there for her.
"You know how people say Paula's eccentric... Imagine how amazing she is sexually... Can you throw your woman in the air and she turn into sunshine?" »

Fifteen years after Arsenio Hall signed off the air, late-night TV is once again making room for hosts who aren't white men.
Fox on Saturday launches a weekly showcase for African-American comic Wanda Sykes. Next week, George Lopez becomes the first Latino to host a nightly late-night comedy series on a major network when his "Lopez Tonight" premieres on TBS. And last month saw the arrival of "The Mo'Nique Show" on Bet.
Is this the Obamafication of the late-night wars?

Hey, a lot happens in five shows. Let's get right into it!
Comedy Correspondents
Arsenio Hall was featured twice this week. His first appearance was in a segment that had potential called "This Is What They Said/This Is What They Meant." I was expecting to see video clips of celebrities, politicians and the like spouting their same bullcrap, and then having Hall tell us what he thinks they really meant. Instead, it was Leno reading quotes, including historically famous ones like Julius Ceasar's "Et tu, Brute!" The gag didn't make sense anymore, and even worse the bits weren't funny.
Luckily, he came back later in the week with an on-site spot at Yankee Stadium, where he interviewed players from both teams and even set up a bet against a Yankees player and Phillies fan Kevin Eubanks involving Snuggies.

Someone with a steady hand sent Sean Patrick Flannery a picture of the best "Boondock Saints" jack-o-lantern you're likely to see this year, and he retweeted in kind. There really wasn't any other choice for the Twitter Pic of the Day.
In other tweets, David Slade continued his "Eclipse" posting with a shot of one of the film's stunt co-coordinators and Rachelle LeFevre admitted to crying during "Where the Wild Things Are." Check out those post below along an old clip of The Ultimate Warrior that Aziz Ansari dug up, how Eliza Dushku feels about Dungeons & Dragons, who wants her at his table to play and how Ice-t is faring at "Borderlands" on his Xbox 360. A slew of big name stars, from Ellen DeGeneres to Jamie Foxx, have agreed to appear on George Lopez's new TBS latenight show during its opening weeks. But the most interesting name on the early guest list for "Lopez Tonight"? Arsenio Hall.
Hall does have a movie to promote -- "Black Dynamite" -- so it's not a total shocker that he'd be book on a talk show.
But Hall is best known as the man who changed late night, making it cool (along with David Letterman) for folks under 30 to watch a talkshow during the latter Carson era. He also succeeded outside the br »

Hey suckah, if you ain’t been out to theaters to see Black Dynamite take on The Man, you need to get gone already!
It might sound like I’m joking, but Black Dynamite is a movie seriously worth watching (see our review) and it’s in theaters now, still waiting for people just like you to come along and turn it into the cult-hit it’s destined to become. But if you think you can hide from the badass kung fu brother who drives $5,000 cars and wears $100 suits, you wrong, suckah - Dead wrong - because Black Dynamite will be blowing up on your TV screen in full Technocolor Blanimation (that’s 20% blacker than animation) all too soon!
After all the ra-ra we’ve done for this film I don’t know how you could possibly Not know what it’s about, but just in case:

Black Dynamite’s the latest in a long line of mean mother bleepers, stretching back to Sweetback, Shaft and the other legendary blaxploitation characters of that brief and inspired era of filmmaking during the early 1970s. Played with self-righteous fury by star/co-writer Michael Jai White he’s an inspired vision in a karate belt and matching headband, leather jacket and tweed suit. In this affectionate send-up of a genre clearly close to the hearts of Jai White and director/co-writer Scott Sanders, the nunchuck-wielding, butt-kicking tough guy, on a quest to clean-up the hood, traverses a terrain populated by pimps, “the Man,” bountifully nude women and drug pushers. Black Dynamite is frenetically paced, overflowing with puns, knowing allusions and sharp in jokes, and in the laughs-per-minute department it exceeds any genre spoof since the heyday of Zuckerdom (Airplane!, The Naked Gun). There’s perhaps no greater challenge than successfully pulling off one of these films, the »

Black Dynamite is a hilarious parody of 70s blaxploitation films that takes itself just-this-side of serious (no real winking at the camera here), which makes the laugh-out-loud moments even fresher. It feels like it could've been straight out of 1973, and it can definitely stand alongside the likes of Pootie Tang and Airplane! as guaranteed super-funny films. Starring Michael Jai White (who co-wrote the film) as Black Dynamite, the flick follows the mustachioed ex-cia commando, the baddest cat ever, as he avenges his brother Jimmy's death, declaring war on The Man and fighting smack in the orphanage. As Black Dynamite, White shows off his karate skills and his dead-on comic timing, and he's surrounded by a cast of wackos, including Arsenio Hall and Tommy Davidson, plus cameos from the likes of The Roots and even porn stars (link is rated R). Director Scott Sanders gets the film's look just right and »

Blaxploitation is a term that was given to the '70s Hollywood trend of making and releasing films specifically targeting the urban black audience. Out of this wave of films came some extremely influential movies that caused repercussions in pop-culture that we still feel to this day. Some of these movies include Sweet Sweetback's Baadasssss Song, Shaft, Coffy, The Mack and Superfly. Black Dynamite, opening in limited release on October 16th, takes a loving look and a long laugh at these films of the '70s, what made them cool and why they've lasted so long in our minds, in this funny and over-the-top new film. We spoke to the films star and co-writer Michael Jai White, director and co-writer Scott Sanders and actors Arsenio Hall and Tommy Davidson to get the lowdown on this hilarious new film spoof.

Aresenio Hall is only in one scene in Black Dynamite but he.s going out on the press circuit to talk about it. The genre of blaxploitation films is near and dear to the former talk show host.s heart, so he wants to educate the public on what they.re about to see in Black Dynamite.
Black Dynamite and Arsenio Hall
Films like Dolemite and The Mack were inspirations to Hall growing up, even though they were about pimps. Actually, not much has changed. .Right now if you go in the valley in Los Angeles, every empty store become a Halloween store around this time of the year and they sell Halloween stuff,. Hall said. .You can go down the aisles and find a pimp costume for children and there.ll be a little white child with a big red had and a red jacket. Something about the flamboyance »
