There are many theories, ideas or should I say 'schools of thought' on how the world would end. At the height of the Cold War, nuclear annihilation ranks at the very top. While others argue it will not be man who will destroy the world (directly) but - an epidemic of global proportions (most probably from a potent strain of virus - think: I am Legend) or severe climactic change (another ice age perhaps? That would be Day After Tommorow right?) or mechanical uprising (The Terminator, anyone?) or even attack from the outside - conquering aliens (Mars Attacks!) or perhaps an asteroid. And let's not forget zombies!

The show broke countless box office records and won every theatre award imaginable, including 12 Tonys in 2001, more than any production in history. It began as a movie, made its way to Broadway, and then found itself back on the silver screen. Now, the smash-hit musical comedy The Producers comes to the Frederick stage for the very first time!
From 2001 to 2007, the hottest tickets on the Great White Way were for Mel Brooks' first musical, which was based on his 1968 film about a down-on-his-luck Broadway producer and his mild-mannered accountant who come up with a scheme to produce the most notorious flop in history thereby bilking their backers (all "little old ladies") out of millions of dollars. Only one thing goes awry: the show is a smash hit! The antics of Max Bialystock and Leo Bloom as they maneuver their way fecklessly through finding a show (the gloriously offensive Springtime For Hitler), hiring a director, »

Welcome to your Thursday morning television briefing. Sarah Wynter (24) has joined the cast of FX's Damages in a recurring role on the series' third season, set to launch in early 2010. She joins the previously reported Reiko Aylesworth, Martin Short, Lily Tomlin, and Campbell Scott. Wynter will play a mysterious "'security specialist' helping a high-level assistant district attorney unravel" a financial scheme; Aylesworth will play the wife of Campbell Scott's character. [Editor: I've also just been informed that "Short's character is a high-powered attorney (family friend) who defends a prominent NY family accused of the financial scheme. Lily Tomlin plays the matriarch of the family."] (Hollywood Reporter) Life on Mars creators Ashley Pharoah and Matthew Graham have been commissioned by BBC Worldwide new drama czar Jane Tranter to write the script for an ABC drama pilot described as a "California cop show with a British twist." Should the project--executive produced by Julie Gardner--go to pilot, it would be produced by BBC Worldwide's Los Angeles production team and Pharoah and Gardner would remain heavily involved, unlike their limited creative involvement with the Us version of Life on Mars. »

Sarah Wynter survived Jack Bauer, but Reiko Aylesworth wasn’t quite so lucky. After all, i’s not easy loving America’s greatest badass warrior (onscreen or off, as it turns out). Luckily for the two lovely ladies, “24″ was just a TV show, and they’ve survived to reunite on the FX Channel’s third season of “Damages”. I’ve never seen “Damages”, but it’s won a ton of awards, and that’s gotta be for a reason, right? The show, I believe, revolves around the world of high-stakes litigation, and originally launched with Glenn Close and Rose Byrne as its female stars. THR has Sarah Wynter (top, left) playing a mysterious “security specialist” who assists a high-level assistant district attorney to be played by Martin Short. Together, they try to unravel an ongoing financial scheme. Oooh, timely! Here’s hoping the two don’t hook up onscreen because, »

Blake Lively was one of the few ladies at last night's NYC premiere of Where the Wild Things Are. It's only Wednesday, but this was already Blake's second red carpet of the week after turning out to support boyfriend Penn Badgley Monday at his screening of The Stepfather. Blake was in rather impressive company, as Tom Hanks and Forest Whitaker also turned out to see Spike Jonze's latest film. Spike took his turn in the limelight to pose with the young star Max Records and author Maurice Sendak, who wrote the famous children's book on which the movie is based. The movie opens Friday - make sure to check out the latest trailer - and there is a huge promotional effort underway, including related lines of home furnishings, children's Halloween costumes, and even clothes for adults. New York — Lincoln Center, the iconic home of world-class opera, ballet and orchestra productions, was invaded by untamed creatures on Tuesday night. The cast and creative forces of "Where the Wild Things Are," the big-screen adaptation of Maurice Sendak's classic children's book of alienation and adventure, took over for a gala red-carpet premiere.
The paparazzi were lined up early outside Alice Tully Hall and security was tight as the evening kicked off and the 81-year-old Sendak was escorted down the carpet by director Spike Jonze and Max Records, the 12-year-old newcomer who plays Max, a young boy who escapes his fraught family life for a fantastical world in which hulking, hairy beasts roam free.

We recently published Glenn Kay's interview with Joe Dante discussing the full details on his upcoming film The Hole (read it here). Now, Jason Anders caught up with the director to go back even further. All the way back to 1978, and the recently remade Piranha...
Jason Anders/Fangoria: Let's start with one of your earliest films, 1978's Piranha; what originally inspired you to become involved in filmmaking, and what roads led to you directing one of your first motion pictures, which garnered the respect of major Hollywood names like Steven Spielberg? Also, tell me about the challenges you faced on the production of this film, which was shot in just 30 days.
Joe Dante: I had originally planned to become a cartoonist; it was only during art school that I came to realize I was more inclined toward filmmaking. This was the mid-'60s when the idea of "film school »

While David Letterman's admission of interoffice romances may have wreaked havoc on his personal life, the extortion scandal paid off ratings-wise again last night. During the first taping since the Late Show host delivered his bombshell to 5.8 million viewers last Thursday, Letterman opened the show with a self-effacing monologue, transitioned into heartfelt apologies to his wife and staff before shifting focus to his guests, Steve Martin and Martin Short. Last night's episode yielded a 4.2 rating which trumped any show in NBC's prime-time line-up. [Associated Press] »

Steve Martin visited David Letterman Monday night and told him he had gripes that weren't covered by the apology the late-night host made earlier in the show to his wife. "I'm upset with you for another matter," he said. "I was watching the show one night and saw Moammar Gadhafi's head on my body while I was playing the banjo. Don't you think you should call first?" There is a clip of the Libyan dictator's head superimposed on Martin's body, then a clip of Martin playing banjo to a bored looking U.N. Back in the studio, Martin really plays the banjo for the audience and he's very good (he's headlining a banjo show at Carnegie Hall Tuesday night!) There are fireworks. In the second segment Martin Short shows up, and Martin and Martin talk about getting colonoscopies together. Watch: Get HuffPost Entertainment On... »

When David Letterman revealed last week that he had testified before a grand jury about a $2 million extortion scheme tied to his affairs with staffers, the typically self-deprecating late-night icon said that was probably the last he would speak of the scandal.
But on Monday night, Letterman dove back into the topic to apologize to his wife, Regina Lasko, who he said had been "horribly hurt" by the news that he had slept with women on his staff in the years leading up to their marriage in March.
"Now the other thing is my wife, Regina," Letterman said on Monday's show, after apologizing to his staff for the unwanted attention focused on the show in the wake of the scandal. "She has »

David Letterman apologized to his wife Regina Lasko during a taping of his talk show Monday afternoon - his first appearance since revealing the alleged extortion plot against him last week. "She has been horribly hurt by my behavior, and when something happens like that, if you hurt a person and it's your responsibility, you try to fix it," he said during his opening monologue. "At that point, there's only two things that can happen: Either you're going to make some progress and get it fixed, or you're going to fall short and perhaps not get it fixed, so let me tell you folks, »
