First Look at Two New 'Red Sonja' Posters

25 July 2008 3:12 PM, PDT | From Rope Of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news

I missed the Comic Con panel for the upcoming adadptation Red Sonja starring Rose McGowan and directed by Robert Rodriguez, but I did manage to catch the duo as they are staying at my hotel. However, who cares about that garbage? From what I understand the best thing to come out of the panel were the teaser posters for the film and we now have both of them for you below. Red Sonja is about a young girl risen from the ashes of tragedy to become the most feared woman warrior of all time. The mythical red-head blindly seeks vengeance on those who destroyed her family. In her path of destruction she discovers a larger purpose for her unearthly powers: to save all Hyrkania from the villainous Kulan Gath. Sdcc 08: Rodriguez Brings Back Red Sonja

25 July 2008 7:12 AM, PDT | From DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news

One of the bigger announcements from yesterday's show that we didn’t catch was Robert Rodriguez’s Red Sonja. The adaptation of the popular sword and sandals (and lots of blood) will be coming our way from Millennium Films next year.

Rodriguez is serving as producer on the film with his long-time second unit director Douglas Aarniokoski in the director’s chair. Oh, and Red Sonja will be played by none other than Rose McGowan. Luscious, delicious and deadly Rose McGowan. What more could you want? How about a logline:

In her return we find Red Sonja, a young girl risen from the ashes of tragedy to become the most feared woman warrior of all time. The mythical redhead blindly seeks vengeance on those who destroyed her family. In her path of destruction she discovers a larger purpose for her unearthly powers: to save all Hyrkania from the villainous Kulan

Comic-Con 08: Robert Rodriguez Presents Red Sonja with Rose McGowan!

25 July 2008 2:46 AM, PDT | From firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news

Earlier today we attended the panel for the upcoming Red Sonja movie, scheduled for a fourth quarter release in 2009, with producer Robert Rodriguez, director Doug Aarniokoski and star Rose McGowan. This was my first ever movie panel at Comic-Con and it truly was exciting. Rodriguez was very entertaining and full of fun comments, some of which you can hear below. McGowan looked amazing and had a very humble feel to her. And director Aarniokoski just seemed real happy to be there. You're probably already familiar with this adaptation of Robert E. Howard's classic work, as it was just announced about a month ago and we published some news about it earlier today. Included below are a few of the details and updates that Rodriguez and company brought about our favorite "she-devil with a sword." Unfortunately there were no clips shown this time because they have yet to start filming.

New 'Red Sonja' Poster Debuts at Comic Con

24 July 2008 4:13 PM, PDT | From GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news

As you probably know, Comic Con is kicking off in San Diego today (officially). We're going to have oodles of new trailers and posters for you from the year's biggest geek fest, and plenty of news to pass along, as well.

Our first Comic Con salvo is the very hot new poster for Red Sonja, which is a remake I didn't believe needed to happen as well as a movie I believe should be recast. Or I did believe that until I saw this poster at Yahoo! This is very nice work.

Rose McGowan will star, Robert Rodriguez is producing, and Red Sonja will hit theaters in 2009, according to the poster (although we had heard 2010...).

Robert Rodriguez Producing Conan As Well As Red Sonja?!

24 July 2008 2:45 PM, PDT | From firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news

We're currently live at the Comic-Con panel for Red Sonja with Robert Rodriguez, Rose McGowan, and Doug Aarniokoski and have an exciting new update for fans! A few weeks ago we officially announced that Rodriguez would be producing a Red Sonja movie with McGowan starring and Robert's ex-second unit director Douglas Aarniokoski directing. Robert and Rose's discussion, which focused on how all three of them have been huge fans of Robert E. Howard's work for ages, eventually touched briefly on the upcoming Conan movie. Rodriguez mention that details have already spilled about Conan (read more about that here) and that he might either produce or direct that movie as well in combination with Red Sonja. If you're unfamiliar with these two stories, they come from Howard's same universe. Over the last year, various directors have been rumored to be involved on the Conan movie, from Hitman's Xavier Gens to Rob Zombie.

Britney Spears Steps Out For a Good Cause

20 July 2008 4:00 AM, PDT | From PEOPLE.com | See recent PEOPLE.com news

With her divorce settlement behind her, Britney Spears took time out on Saturday night to do something for the kids, adding star wattage to Jenny McCarthy and Jim Carrey's fundraiser for Generation Rescue, an organization dedicated to researching autism. "She looked great and seemed really happy," says a partygoer of the Snow Queen Vodka-sponsored shindig at the couple's home in Brentwood. Though she kept close to her assistant Brett and didn't speak to other guests, "She smiled and clapped during the video about autism. She was very into the information and watched a little bit of the dancers from Dancing with the Stars,

Interview: Josh Hartnett on "August"

15 July 2008 4:06 PM, PDT | From ifc.com | See recent IFC news

By Aaron Hillis

In the mere decade he's been filling movie screens, 30-year-old actor Josh Hartnett has already worked in both mega-budget studio flicks ("Pearl Harbor," "Hollywood Homicide") and with auteurs like Sofia Coppola ("The Virgin Suicides"), Robert Rodriguez ("The Faculty," "Sin City") and Brian De Palma ("The Black Dahlia"). Maintaining his stance with one foot in Hollywood, the other currently leaning more heavily in Indiewood, Hartnett's latest . which he also co-produced . is a time warp back to New York during the summer of 2001. Only marginally a pre-9/11 film, director Austin Chick's "August" is an implosive study in hubris set against the backdrop of the dot-com economic meltdown. Hartnett plays Tom Sterling, a narcissistic millionaire CEO who is far more concerned with his materialistic rock star image than he is for Landshark, the sinking ship of a company that he began with his brother Joshua (Adam Scott). Hartnett chatted with me about the film,

New Trailer for 'The Spirit' Finds Its Way Online

14 July 2008 8:41 PM, PDT | From GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news

Trippy. That's about the best word I can use to describe a leaked trailer for The Spirit that came into the possession of Trailer Addict earlier today. Lots of black, white, and red from Frank Miller, who after co-directed Sin City with Robert Rodriguez, is going it alone behind the camera this time for a long overdue film version of the Will Eisner comic.

I don't know that I'd call this a great trailer, but it's still an early one. I'm sure they'll get better in the coming months. Hate the music, though. Doesn't seem to fit.

Dark and full of hot, hot babes, The Spirit hits theaters this Christmas.

McGowan Dispels Rodriguez Split Reports

2 July 2008 11:56 PM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Latest: Actress Rose McGowan has blasted reports she has been dropped from her director fiance Robert Rodriguez's forthcoming movie Barbarella, amid rumours of a split.

The couple, who met on the set of 2007's double bill Grindhouse, was alleged to have parted ways following a row over financial difficulties for the remake of the 1968 cult classic, in which McGowan would take the lead role.

She was also due to star in two of Rodriguez's other projects - Red Sonja and Woman in Chains! - when reports of the break-up emerged.

But the actress' representative has denied the pair has ended their working relationship, telling People.com, "The production of all three films is moving forward with Rose to star."

And a source close to McGowan insists the 34-year-old beauty is still with the filmmaker: "She and Robert are fine."

McGowan And Rodriguez Split?

2 July 2008 5:14 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Actress Rose McGowan has reportedly split with fiance Robert Rodriguez - because of financial difficulties on forthcoming film Barbarella.

The Grindhouse star was set to take the lead in a remake of the 1968 cult classic, with Rodriguez directing the movie.

But the couple have now allegedly split following disagreements over the film's money problems.

McGowan apparently wasn't a big enough box office draw for the $70 million (GBP35 million) remake, after her 2007 film Grindhouse only grossed $25.4 million (GBP12.7 million).

A source tells the New York Post's gossip column PageSix, "Too bad Grindhouse didn't gross $100 million (GBP50 million). Then, maybe, Barbarella would have gotten the green light.

"Instead, the moguls were saying, 'We need a bigger star, a bigger name.'"

The project was reportedly set to be axed by Universal Studios in October, because of Rodriguez's decision to cast girlfriend McGowan in the lead role.

The screen beauty fell for the filmmaker on the set of Planet Terror, one half of the double bill Grindhouse, and the couple went public with their relationship in May that year - shortly after Rodriguez filed for divorce from his wife of 16 years, Elizabeth Avellan.

McGowan + Rodriguez To Tackle Red Sonja

27 June 2008 12:13 PM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Grindhouse star Rose McGowan and her director boyfriend are set to revive Brigitte Nielsen's Red Sonja in a new movie.

The actress and Robert Rodriguez have confirmed they're planning a major remake of the 1985 big screen adaptation of the comic book series, in which Nielsen played a bikini-clad, sword-wielding barbarian vixen.

And even McGowan, who played a one-legged zombie killer in Rodriguez's Planet Terror Grindhouse film, admits she's surprised the Red Sonja role is hers.

The script was sent to her and she admits she had no idea why she had been selected to play the new Sonja.

She tells USA Today newspaper, "I thought it was funny. I do have a body made for sitting on a veranda with mint juleps and a parasol. I don't know why I always have to save the planet."

But Rodriguez insists his partner is perfect for the role: "Rose is a pistol. She's whip-smart, has attitude to burn, is sexy, extremely strong, yet has a vulnerable side that would surprise her closest friends. That description also fits Red Sonja."

Rose McGowan to Play Rodriguez' 'Red Sonja'

27 June 2008 9:38 AM, PDT | From GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news

Robert Rodriguez and his girlfriend Rose McGowan are teaming up for a big action movie and this one's not Barbarella. The Sin City co-director and his current muse will remake Red Sonja, based on the Robert Howard character turned into a disastrous film version back in 1985. That one starred Brigitte Nielsen, who, like McGowan, gives off a certain "I'll kick your ass" vibe.

"Rose is a pistol. She's whip-smart, has attitude to burn, is sexy, extremely strong, yet has a vulnerable side that would surprise her closest friends. That description also fits Red Sonja," Rodriguez told USA Today. The only thing is...were we really crying out for Red Sonja to be remade? I think Rodriguez had the same trepidation until he saw the screenplay.

"I was surprised when Rose brought me a script of Red Sonja that she liked. I found it very entertaining." Added Rodriguez, "Sonja was strong,
