Killer Imports: Coweb

13 hours ago | FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news »

Killer Imports [1] is a regular feature on Film Junk where we explore foreign-language films from around the world that haven’t yet had their chance to shine. Whenever I appear on the Film Junk podcast and review a film, I invariably have a negative opinion. And when I write film reviews for the Film Junk web site, I invariably have a positive opinion, even for films that many Film Junk readers would consider bad. The discrepancy has to do with the fact that I don’t get to choose which films to review on the podcast. I find it easier to give reasons on why I like something rather than why I don’t like something. So for me, writing a positive review is easier to write and seems more worthwhile since someone may be influenced by a positive review to watch a film that I feel deserves attention. No »

Madhavan may be totally immersed in the promotion of his upcoming release 3 Idiots. However, in the midst of his hectic schedule, he is making sure that his commitment to social causes aren't impacted. Yesterday, he flew off to Bangkok for a couple of days to participate in a program where he would be building homes for the needy people in Thailand. This would be for an organization called 'Habitat for Humanity'. Says a source from the organization, "Maddy (as he is lovingly called) has shown great passion in this cause. Black List Screenplay Once Upon a Time in Hell Bought by Phoenix Pictures

4 November 2009 1:15 PM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

Ever since Sergio Leone made his pair of 'Once Upon a Time..." movies (a masterful pair of films at that) other writers and directors have cribbed the title for their own work. Jet Li gained popularity with Once Upon a Time in China. Robert Rodriguez obviously nodded to Leone with Once Upon a Time in Mexico, and Quentin Tarantino did the same with the title card and early tagline for Inglourious Basterds. ("Once Upon a Time in Occupied France...") Now Lee Shipman and Brian McGreevy will be able to add their script, Once Upon a Time in Hell, to the list. After being listed on the 2009 Black List of popular unproduced screenplays, their work has been bought by Phoenix Pictures. The big question is: how has a movie not already been made with this title? The story is based on the classic revenge story by Alexandre Dumas, The Count of »

Eric Roberts: The Hollywood Interview

(Eric Roberts in "Crash," above.)

Rediscovering Roberts

Eric Roberts never really left, but 2009 audiences are learning (or relearning) the charms of the actor Mickey Rourke has called the best he ever worked with.

By Terry Keefe

(This article is currently appearing in this month's Venice Magazine.)

Eric Roberts is the [expletive deleted] Man,” proclaimed Mickey Rourke at this past year’s Independent Spirit Awards, while accepting his trophy for Best Male Lead, at the very beginning of a speech which then saw him singling out Roberts, his one-time co-star in 1984’s The Pope of Greenwich Village, as someone who was worthy of a comeback like Rourke had with The Wrestler. From the audience, Roberts himself watched his friend at the podium with what looked to be a combination of embarrassment at being mentioned and some pleasure at the same, finally throwing it back at Rourke by shouting good-naturedly, “Accept your award!” For »

'The Expendables': Sly Talks Willis and Schwarzenegger's Characters

1 November 2009 7:19 PM, PST | Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news »

80's action stars, Sylvester Stallone, Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger, have got together on October 24 to shoot a scene for "The Expendables", and details on the scene have been shared by Stallone himself. To Entertainment Weekly, the director/writer/star of the actioner provided further info about the characters Willis and Schwarzenegger take on among others.

Confirming that the scene takes place in a church, Sly revealed that Willis portrays the one who hires his mercenary group for the death-defying mission, while Schwarzenegger stars as his character's old rival. Describing the scene in more detail, the 63-year-old gushed, "Bruce says 'Well, there's one other person I want to talk to before I hire you. And then Arnold, who plays my old rival, walks in."

"We have a history together," Sly continued explaining the fall-out his character has with Schwarzenegger's. "And we go back and forth and I tell him that »

Sly Talks Expendables Scene with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis

1 November 2009 5:50 PM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Entertainment Weekly talked with Sylvester Stallone about the pivotal, 5-minute scene with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis for Stallone's The Expendables which we first reported here. Sly talked candidly about the six hour shoot:

Stallone said the superstar-summit scene takes place in a church, where Willis' nasty antagonist has summoned Stallone's macho mercenary to finally meet him face-to-face, take measure of him, and possibly hire him for a death-defying mission. But just as the meeting gets under way and smartass smalltalk is made, in walks another killer-for-hire - Stallone's longtime rival, who Willis has also invited to this job interview: Ah-nuld.

"Bruce says 'Well, there's one other person I want to talk to before I hire you," says Stallone. "And then Arnold, who plays my old rival, walks in. We have a history together. And we go back and forth and I tell him that I should have shot him »

The Expendables: Willis & Schwarzenegger Character Info

1 November 2009 3:37 PM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

The first trailer for The Expendables made its way online the other week although it was unofficial, unfinished and quickly removed everywhere at the request of Lionsgate.

The movie brings together a plethora of action stars, most notably, those who kicked ass during the 80s. It was shaping up to be a perfect reunion of the stars we loved from back in the day. When we got to see the unofficial trailer, the quality of what we saw sure made it feel like an 80s action flick, which to me was good and bad.

From the footage, we never got to see two big names who we know are involved with the movie: Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis. Thanks to an Entertainment Weekly exclusive chat with Stallone, we now have some details on what Willis and the Governator will be playing.

Sylvester Stallone Discusses the "$15 Billion" Scene in The Expendables

1 November 2009 10:44 AM, PST | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

Action movie juggernauts Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis shared the limelight throughout the '80s and '90s, starring in one eye-popping spectacle after another. The three actors even shared ownership of the once-popular Planet Hollywood chain of movie memorabilia-themed restaurants. But one thing they never shared before is screen time. That's going to change once The Expendables explodes into theaters next summer.

Just last week, the publicist for The Expendables blogged about being on set for the filming of a pivotal scene featuring the three superstars in an empty church. In a recent phone interview with EW, Stallone gave a brief description of that historic scene, which he described as "amazing."

Bruce says "Well, there's one other person I want to talk to before I hire you," and then Arnold, who plays my old rival, walks in. We have a history together. And we go back and »

'Expendables' exclusive: Sylvester Stallone talks '$15 billion' scene with Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis

We've said it before and we'll say it again: we couldn't be more pumped for Sylvester Stallone's all-star action extravaganza, The Expendables. If you've been tracking this pecs-pumping, pyrotechnics-palooza with us, then you're already hip to the summer 2010 film's hulking, Who's Who he-man cast (Jason Statham, Jet Li, Mickey Rourke, Dolph Lundgren, Eric Roberts, Randy Couture, Steve Austin, etc.). You've also seen the early photos of a tattooed and totally ripped Stallone and heard that Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger would drop by for cameo appearances, pretty much cementing the film as a one-stop shopping site for '80s blow-'em-up blockbuster lovers. »

Ong Bak 2: The Beginning Review

30 October 2009 4:41 AM, PDT | Atomic Popcorn | See recent Atomic Popcorn news »

If the balletic and elegant fighting styles of Jackie Chan and Jet Li are the tap and swing of the martial arts world, then Tony Jaa and his Thai cohorts are practicing the Lambada. Jaa, who rose to international popularity in 2005 with Ong Bak, introduced the mainstream to the brutal and direct art of Muy Thai. Utilizing a mixture of feet, elbows and knees—and your head if you can figure a way to fit it in—Muy Thai is Jaa’s signature style. The two come in a package, and after a few other forays into the genre, they are both back with Ong Bak 2. The new entry ups the ante of the original by including more stunts, more enemies and a bigger budget which results in some of the most exciting fight scenes ever put to film.

26 October 2009 9:00 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Sylvester Stallone's new film will have a scene featuring three action heavyweights in the same scene, and now we have some new details. Ethel Mae's Blog has posted a description of a scene from Stallone's The Expendables which features Stallone, Bruce Willis and current California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. It was said the scene was pivotal to the set-up of the film, and here's a description of the characters Willis and Schwarzenneger play.

Arnold's character is Trench and Bruce is Church, the scene was shot in an empty church without extras and minimal set dec and it has tension and humor...Bruce and Arnold were consummate professionals at all times - we got through the scene quickly without compromise. In 6 hours we did wide shots, close-ups, turned around...the whole nine yards.

The Expendables Update - Sylvester Stallone, Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger Filmed Together Earlier Today

24 October 2009 4:33 PM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Earlier today, while most of us were trying to enjoy our Saturday, Sylvester Stallone, Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger filmed a scene together for “The Expendables”. If you’re a fan of action movies, this is like Christmas morning. While the scene in question is just a small part of the movie…who cares! These three action stars have never worked together and even if it’s just for a moment in the movie, this is another reason why “The Expendables” is going to be awesome. More after the jump.

According to ethelmae.com:

We shoot the scene with Sly Arnold & Bruce on Saturday. I still don’t have the location (not that I would share it anyway) but logic dictates it will be in a church in La.

And the news that they were all filming together comes from twitter.com/marialascala:

Watch Out!: The Seventh Curse (1986)

23 October 2009 9:54 PM, PDT | JustPressPlay.net | See recent JustPressPlay news »

Welcome to the absurd. The Seventh Curse is one of the most unreasonably entertaining B-movies you'll see out of Hong Kong, mainly because it’s so fucking insane. The names involved already promises a bastard of a movie; with a screenplay by low-brow legend Wong Jing (who has written and directed over 100 movies, including the God of Gamblers series and a couple of Jet Li films), and directed by Ngai Kai Lam (the director of cult favorite Riki-Oh: The Story of Ricky).

I stumbled onto The Seventh Curse somewhat by accident many years ago, when I was on a Chow Yun Fat binge. I didn’t even realize who the director was at first; but was then pleasantly surprised, needless to say. This one, I dare say, actually tops Riki-Oh in terms of being completely over-the-top, which anyone who has seen Riki-Oh can tell you, is a feat worthy of the Louvre. »

Jackie Chan Starring In Remake Of The Shaolin Temple

23 October 2009 1:15 PM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

I haven't got a clue why the New Haven Movie Examiner is breaking news about an upcoming Jackie Chan project, especially one that will be filmed in Chinese and in China. But hey, don't ask questions-- it's actually good news this time. Chan will be starring in a remake of The Shaolin Temple, a film that originally starred Jet Li as the martial arts master, alongside 1,000 authentic fighting monks. The best news is that the monks will be back, apparently, in the film directed by Benny Chan. The temple where filming will take place recently underwent $292 million of renovations, but apparently it retained enough of its original flavor to be a worthwhile shooting location. Filming will begin this winter, and the movie is set for a late 2010 release, though they're not saying whether that's a Chinese or American release date. Give how often Chan has focused on mainstream nonsense like »
