Paul McGann takes on extra business while Tara Fitzgerald brings sparkle to this low-key tale of a funeral director who gets mixed up with a local gangster
This low-key thriller, set in the late 1950s-early 60s judging by the costumes, harks back to the regional British crime flicks of that period, the sort of movies where penny-stakes gangsters and spivs in shiny suits clash over who will control the ration-card black market. Writer-director Michael Wright clearly has a yen for this milieu and takes care to get the argot right in this tale of Arthur Morel (Paul McGann), a reticent funeral director who gets mixed up with local hoodlum Finlay (Roger Barclay) in a northern town. Finlay needs a bit of help burying the excess bodies his shady business generates, or “loose ends” as he describes them.
It’s not immediately clear why Arthur agrees to take on this shady extra business,...

Watch the trailers for both below.
Inspired by true events, Kindling follows the story of a group of young men who return to their hometown to turn their terminally ill friend’s final summer into a celebration of life, love and friendship. Facing mortality, Sid (Sex Education‘s Somner) wants to create a legacy and be remembered forever. With his obsession for astronomy and the atmosphere, he comes up with a plan. He gives each boy a category — love, home, friends, family and location — and asks them to find an item that connects them all with the word they’ve been given. Together, they’ll burn the items on a gigantic fire, making the particles and his memory a part of the atmosphere forever.

Got something you’d like to ask the flugelhorn-tooting forensic scientist and all-round star of stage and screen? Send it our way and we’ll put it to her
You might think of her as forensic scientist Eve Lockhart from BBC series Waking the Dead, or as Queen Selyse Baratheon in Game of Thrones, but Tara Fitzgerald is a long-termer when it comes to film. Her first big role was in Peter Chelsom’s 1991 nightclub comedy Hear My Song, after which she went on to a couple of roles opposite Hugh Grant: Sirens in 1994 and The Englishman Who Went Up a Hill But Came Down a Mountain in 1995. In between the two she was in A Man of No Importance with Albert Finney. Then came the flugelhorn-tooting Brassed Off, and the Czech war film Dark Blue World. More recently she played Miriam in Ridley Scott’s biblical epic Exodus: Gods and Kings.

Signora Volpe is poised to be another breakout hit for Acorn TV.
The streaming service today revealed the official trailer and premiere date for the three-part detective drama series starring Emilia Fox.
The series was filmed on location in the stunning Lazio and Umbria regions in Italy, and will make its debut Monday, May 2, on Acorn TV, AMC Networks’ acclaimed streamer devoted to British and international television.
Episodes will continue to debut on Mondays through May 16.
"To the casual observer, there’s nothing remarkable about Sylvia Fox (Fox) - an intelligent, confident woman in her forties, she tends to keep quiet about her formidable linguistic abilities, impressive knowledge of weaponry, and skills as a markswoman," reads the official description of the series.
"Questions about her professional life are met with bland answers about an unspectacular career in the Civil Service."
"Which is only very slightly true – because until recently, Sylvia was a high-ranking British spy.

“Frasier” star Kelsey Grammer and Nathalie Cox (“Clash of the Titans”) have completed principal photography at York, U.K. on mystery/suspense feature “Miss Willoughby and the Haunted Bookshop,” directed by Brad Watson (“The 7th Dimension”).
“This has been a terrific experience,” said Grammer. “Although Covid presented a new set of challenges, we were able to work very effectively through new standards of film production. From an armed robber to a candlestick, we take a look at 10 of Ewan McGregor's most overlooked roles.
This article comes from Den of Geek UK.
Ewan McGregor is a popular and Golden Globe-winning actor, and his great performances in films like Trainspotting, Moulin Rouge!, Fargo, Salmon Fishing in the Yemen, and, of course, several Star Wars movies are well known. He's recently won plaudits for his tortured turn in Stephen King adaptation Doctor Sleep, and is soon to be reprising his role as Jedi master Obi-Wan Kenobi in an upcoming Disney+ series. But McGregor has such a full filmography, spanning 25 years and counting, that it’s easy to overlook some of his less lauded performances.
Here, we’ve collected 10 of his performances that are deserving of attention, though some of them are found in not-so-great films or forgotten television shows, they are still of great...

If you liked “Downton Abbey,” then has Epix got the show for you! Because limited series “Belgravia” looks and sounds Exactly like “Downton” — the trailer even reveals an almost identical piano theme.
Here’s the thing though: “Belgravia” is a Julian Fellowes adaptation of a Julian Fellowes novel of the same name, and Fellowes, Gareth Neame, Nigel Marchant, and Liz Trubridge are the executive producers. In other words, it can’t be a “Downton” ripoff if it’s by the folks behind “Downton.”
(And yes, we checked with Epix: This lookalike — and soundalike — show has nothing to do with “Downton” other than the producing team. It’s not a spinoff or companion series.)

In the 1990s, she was everywhere – on film and TV and in the theatre – but then she almost disappeared. She talks about eschewing Hollywood – and being close to Harvey Weinstein
Although 1990s British pop culture is now generally discussed through the prism of Britpop, there was another equally pervasive storyline: the rise of young British female actors. Everyone from Kate Winslet to Sadie Frost was eagerly pitched as the next big thing, and the general assumption was that Hollywood was the focus and eternal fame the reward. But of the many young, posh and pretty female faces that smiled from the magazine covers then, few seemed as much of a sure thing as Tara Fitzgerald.
One 1996 interview described her as falling “somewhere in between established British actresses like Helena Bonham Carter and Emma Thompson and young upstarts like Winslet and Minnie Driver”, which was right, but underestimated how ubiquitous Fitzgerald was.

BBC has released the first trailer for their upcoming adaptation of Agatha Christie's The ABC Murders. The three-part limited series stars John Malkovich in the role of Hercule Poirot and Rupert Grint (Harry Potter) as Inspector Crome.
The series looks really good. Malkovich adds his own interesting flavor to the character Hercule Poirot, and I like it.
The story is set in the 1930's, which is "a time when the nation is dangerously divided, with suspicion and hatred on the rise. In the midst of this tension, Poirot faces a serial killer known only as ‘A.B.C.’ First the killer strikes in Andover, then Bexhill. As the murder count rises, the only clue is the copy of the ABC Railway Guide at each crime scene. Poirot’s investigations are thwarted at every turn by an enemy determined to outsmart him. When a dead body shows up in a murder mystery, there are few characters you’d want on the case more than Hercule Poirot. And when Hercule Poirot shows up in a script, there are few actors you’d want on the call sheet more than John Malkovich.
Enter “The ABC Murders,” the latest Agatha Christie adaptation heading to Amazon Prime. Based on the legendary crime author’s 1936 novel, Malkovich’s Poirot stumbles into a series of grisly murders. As each new victim falls dead, their first and last name start with the next letter of the alphabet.
The three-part series is directed by Alex Gabassi, who previously spent time behind the camera on “The Frankenstein Chronicles.” Apart from Malkovich, the rest of “The ABC Murders” ensemble includes Rupert Grint, Shirley Henderson, Andrew Buchan, Anya Chalotra, Eamon Farren, Jack Farthing, Tara Fitzgerald, Bronwyn James, Freya Mavor, and Michael Shaeffer.

Middle age rather suits Hugh Grant, who turns 58 on September 9. The Oxford grad has outgrown most of his romantic comedy ticks from his early years – flopsy-mopsy hair, fluttery eyelashes and charming stutter – and has matured into an exceptional and versatile actor. Not that he has lost his sense of humor. Anyone who chuckled over his villainous turn in this year’s “Paddington 2” as a pompous, cravat-wrapped actor who frames his cuddly ursine co-star for a crime he didn’t commit can testify to that Then there was his finely tuned scoundrel turn in this summer’s BBC miniseries, “A Very English Scandal,“ in which his Parliament member Jeremy Thorpe plots the botched murder of his male lover.
Grant began his acting career in the ‘80s as secondary player in both British period pieces — some good (“Maurice”) and others faintly ridiculous (“The Lair of the White Moon”) – and Hollywood comedies...

Here's our first look at John Malkovich in the role of Hercule Poirot in BBC's upcoming adaptation of Agatha Christie's The ABC Murders. As you can see, he's dialed back on the look of the character and isn't going for the over-exaggerated version that we've seen in recent depictions like Kenneth Branagh in Murder on the Orient Express.
The story is set in the 1930's which is "a time when the nation is dangerously divided, with suspicion and hatred on the rise. In the midst of this tension, Poirot faces a serial killer known only as "A.B.C." First the killer strikes in Andover, then Bexhill. As the murder count rises, the only clue is the copy of the ABC Railway Guide at each crime scene. Poirot’s investigations are thwarted at every turn by an enemy determined to outsmart him. If the detective is to match his nemesis,...

John Malkovich’s upcoming portrayal of Hercule Poirot appears to be a little less wild on the facial hair front than recent depictions of the famed literary detective.
In the first-look from The ABC Murders, released Thursday, the actor’s moustache boasts considerably less hirsuteness and flair than seen on Kenneth Branagh in last year’s Murder on the Orient Express.
Malkovich plays the lead in the three-part adaptation of Agatha Christie’s classic for the BBC and Amazon, starring alongside Rupert Grint (Harry Potter), Andrew Buchan (Broadchurch, The Honourable Woman), Eamon Farren (Twin Peaks, Chained), Tara Fitzgerald (Game of Thrones) and Bronwyn ...

Kenneth Branagh made a big splash with his 2017 film adaptation of Agatha Christie's Murder on the Orient Express. He wonderfully played detective Hercule Poirot in the film and will reprise the role in his adaptation of Death on the Nile.
Well, the BBC is now developing their own new Agatha Christie project, which will be an adaptation of the 1936 novel The ABC Murders. The series will be told in three parts and they've cast John Malkovich to take on the role of Hercule, and I have no doubt he's going to be awesome! I actually like that casting a bit more than Branagh. It's also been announced that Harry Potter's Rupert Grint has signed onto the film as well. He will play Inspector Crome. Here's the story description from the book:

John Malkovich will be chewing some scenery and solving some murders in Amazon's new Agatha Christie series...
The legendary John Malkovich will be playing iconic detective Hercule Poirot in new BBC One series (set to be made available via Amazon Prime in the U.S.) The ABC Murders.
The classic 1936 Agatha Christie tome has been adapted for television by the immensely talented lady behind three other recent versions of the author's work, Sarah Phelps. Phelps' other series - And Then There Were None, The Witness For The Prosecution, and Ordeal By Innocence - have all been extremely solid, and this one sounds like it'll be storming, too.
