Here comes round no. 3 of favorite episodes. My esteemed colleagues Rick and Hanh have picked their favorites and they each took considerable time preparing their list. I laughed at that -- until I sat down to do mine and it became a four-days-long project.
Here were my personal parameters for the list: 1. Each show could only have one episode on the list. 2. I would not repeat my colleagues' choices, which was particularly hard with "Buffy" and "Veronica Mars," as my top picks have been spoken for. 3. A two-parter counts as one slot on my list. My list, my rules. 4. There was a limit of 10.
Why a limit? Because my initial list had 22 entries and I realized I was basically just listing my favorite shows and then picking good episodes. I had to be more disciplined! The 12 I took off (for a variety of reasons) became "honorable mentions" of a sort. »

Eli Roth's planning his own sci-fi movie called Endangered Species, but that hasn't stoppped him from getting involved in another alien-themed project, called Invasion and written Ben Magid, according to the good people at Shock Till You Drop. That's not to be confused with either the Nicole Kidman film The Invasion, which we're doing our best to forget, or the TV series starring William Fichtner. This one is described as Cloverfield-esque, opening with an accident in the Los Angeles underground (not the one The A-Team disappeared into though; the subway). The survivors emerge into a changed world, where snow is falling, the city's in ruins and survivors roam in mobs. Oh, and there are patches of (presumably alien) acidic goo all over the place, which never makes for a tropical destination hotspot.Magid's also worked on the movie adaptation of Hack/Slash, and sold another original script in Pan, »

The first trailer for Date Night, which teams NBC Thursday Night Comedy heavy weights Steve Carell (The Office) & Tina Fey (30 Rock) is now online thanks to Apple Trailers. Though the film is a comedy, per the trailer it looks like it will be just as much an action movie. Supporting the stars are Mark Wahlberg as a buffed up security expert who is an ex-client of Fey’s character, and James Franco and Mila Kunis who play the shady couple who are the real targets in the mistaken identity. Also in the Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum, The Pink Panther 2006) directed film are Ray Liotta, Mark Ruffalo, Kristen Wiig, Common, Taraji P. Catalog titles Ftw. I am one of those rare people who enjoy being “double dipped.” I like upgrading to Blu-ray if I love a film, because you only get to watch a movie for the first time once, and so a different and better transfer is a reason (at least for me) to get excited about a film you’ve seen a number of times. When I would go see something in the theater on multiple occasions, I’d often go to different theaters (or failing that, different seats). My reviews of the Blu-rays of Heat and Logan’s Run after the jump.
Heat is one of the great American films. It took me a while to come to that, and I still think that Michael Mann’s finest film is The Insider, but there’s no denying Heat. Robert De Niro stars as Neal McCauley, a high line criminal who knows how to rob. »

Christopher Nolan’s Inception – his mystery-cloaked follow-up to The Dark Knight – has only been shooting for a short while, but already a teaser trailer has made its debut online, over at Yahoo! And it’s damned intriguing…It starts off with the now traditional Warner Bros. shield before a quick zoom in reveals that it’s made of buildings. The first shot – a spinning silver top. The second – an actual cityscape (Tokyo, one of the cities where Nolan is shooting the film, along with London, La, and Paris). The third – the movie’s star, Leonardo DiCaprio, looking mean and moody with his now-customary goatee, looking at something… which could be the fourth shot, of a guy (who looks a lot like William Fichtner) being dragged away, against his will, by two guys on a rooftop. The fifth shot is where this really gets weird. All we knew about Inception previously »

Colin Jacobson reviews the 1999 Pulp Fiction wanabee.
If you look up "1990s" in the dictionary, Go might be the movie pictured there. With its story of a particular party culture, it just screams "Nineties" to me - or at least "second half of the Nineties". Whether or not it still holds up a decade later remains to be seen.

Fragments, while it does have fleeting glimmers of hope, is a film that never realizes its full potential. The marketing for the film suggests that it bears some similarity to Paul Haggis’ Academy Award winning film Crash. The similarities are merely superficial. An ensemble cast united by a tragic event is about as close as the two films get. Fragments, while making a few inlays into the festival circuit, never found theatrical release and is only available on DVD. The film is also listed under two titles: Winged Creatures (which is the name of the Roy Freirich novel on which the film is based) and Fragments.
I’d keep this one off your queue
Fragments tells the story of various characters who find themselves in a small town diner as a tragic and random event transpires. A lone gunman, for no specified reason, murders patrons before turning the gun on himself. »

Chicago – Very few shows have plummeted as far from their peak to their ignominious end as did Fox’s once-great “Prison Break”. For proof, look no further than the misguided “Prison Break: The Final Break,” what is essentially a straight-to-dvd epilogue at least here in the United States.
Blu-Ray Rating: 2.0/5.0 “The Final Break” is a film of roughly two-episode length that actually aired overseas but was basically encapsulated in a coda here on the final episode of the show in May. The broadcast finale skipped from the downfall of The Company to reveal that Michael Scofield had died. How did that happen? Find out in “The Final Break,” which, believe it or not, involves one more character going to jail and trying to escape. They sure knew how to beat a dead horse the last few years.
The first season and most of the second were clever thrill rides, a »

Finally, a little treat from HBO has arrived for the new season of "Entourage". A clip is released to expose the hectic and glamorous scene where a red carpet premiere for Vince's new movie "Gatsby" is held.
Coming to the network on July 12, the sixth season begins with an episode called "Drive". Vince is back in the fast lane, preparing for his driving test and an appearance with Jay Leno to promote the premiere of "Gatsby," directed by Martin Scorsese.
Meanwhile, with a nudge from Sloan, Eric considers moving into his own house, but worries about the impact on Vince and the gang. Looking for career advancement, Lloyd confronts Ari with an ultimatum, which Ari counters with a proposition of his own.
The sixth season of "Entourage" will particularly be a star-studded fiesta. Extracted from on-location shootings are the news about guest star appearances by Zac Efron, Kanye West, 50 Cent, »

It looks like William Fichtner is going to go from chasing down convicts to chasing the boys from HBO's Entourage. The veteran actor is set to join the sixth season of Entourage in a multi-episode arc. He will play Phil Yagoda, a slick TV producer who wants to enlist Johnny Drama in the remake of his 1990s teen show. Brothers and Sisters actor Matt Letscher will also join, and will oversee the new TV series. Also joining for an arc is Scott Caan, a talent manager with tough talk that will become a nuisance for Eric this season. It seems as if the approach is to be bigger and better than ever this time around. However, I do hope that the show is able to focus this season and is not adding all these stars just for the sake of getting them on-screen. Entourage starts back up on July 12th at 10:30pm. »

Despite the recession, "Entourage" is not planning a shortage of guest stars when it enters the sixth season next month. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Matt Letscher, William Fichtner and Scott Caan will be involved in a multi-episode arc.
Letscher plays a character named Dan Coakley who is described as handsome but arrogant TV studio executive who oversees Johnny Drama's TV series. The actor may be familiar as Nathan Stone on ABC's "Eli Stone" before the show got canceled.
Meanwhile, Fichtner aka the Alexander Mahone of "Prison Break", will play a slick TV producer named Phil Yagoda. His character had a hit teen series in the 1990s and is trying to remake it with Drama.
For Caan, this would be one of his early TV appearances. The actor who is known to play Turk Malloy in "Ocean's Eleven" and its two sequels, will take the role of Scotty Lavin. Scotty »

As Heroes has strayed far from what made it awesome in the first season, I've found that I've had to drag myself in front of the TV to watch the last 2 seasons. But the announcement that Robert Knepper will be joining the show as Season 4's main villain is enough to get me back on the saddle (and excited, mind you) for another go around. If you don't know Knepper, he played one of the greatest TV villains of all time on Fox's Prison Break: Theodore "T-Bag" Bagwell. Vile. Nefarious. Wicked. All words not strong enough to describe how evil and despicable this guy really was. And he was evil all the way to the core. But that's a testament to Knepper's awesome acting abilities. He was one of the rare actors on the show that could really throw down an amazing performance (I also give props to William Fichtner »
