This summer's Get Smart reboot, with Steve Carell as Maxwell, was far from brilliant, but sweet Jebus, Carell is funny. His improvised dance with a bewildered-but-willing overweight partygoer is one of this year's comic highlights -- a perfect blend of good-natured mockery and non sequitur. So the official announcement of the inevitable sequel strikes me as a good thing. I doubt they'll ever come up with any sort of finely tuned masterwork, but I figure it's guaranteed to have a bunch of great moments. Big budget comedies are often so dire that "uneven with flashes of inspiration" is music to my ears.
Even better, the success of Get Smart has earned Carell a three-year deal with Warner Bros., giving him a chance to develop both starring vehicles and projects for others. It's good to see the right people take off like this, y'know? On the other hand, it's kind of

Adam Sandler wandering into topical territory, actually making sense, and stll making the funny? I was surprised too! Don't worry, he still packs in plenty of juvenile gags about the outlandish size of his package and drags in every ancient ethnic stereotype possible, but as an Israeli intelligence operative who wants to become a hairdresser, he pulls off the neat trick of creating a completely silly character in a wish-fulfillment scenario that, well, nearly everyone wants to see. Rent it. Available rated (theatrical cut) on a single-disc DVD and unrated in single-disc and double-disc DVD editions. The Blu-ray includes both the rated and unrated versions.
Maybe the inclusion of "over 1 hour of intense bonus footage not shown in theaters!" -- extended versions of "Lion Attack" and Survivalist Porch" among them -- will convert me.

After the $230 million success of Get Smart this past summer, Steve Carell can now officially do whatever he wants. As it turns out, what he wants is to be Adam Sandler. Variety says Steve has formed a production company called Carousel Prods and signed a 3 year first look deal with Warner Brothers. How will he use it? To make movies with his buddies. Carell says, "My idea was to partner with friends of mine, people I trusted, with whom I share a certain sensibility... have some ideas for films, but I've gotten to know so many people who are funny, talented and fertile with ideas that I'm confident this very strong base of friendships will lead to projects." This is exactly how every Adam Sandler movie got made. Sandler makes movies with his buddies, and the result has been big money for Sandler... and an undeserved career for Rob Schneider.

There are five new wide releases this weekend, along with a notable expansion, but this three-day is certain to "go to the dogs." Beverly Hills Chihuahua (Disney), starring Piper Perabo and Jamie Lee Curtis and featuring the voice talent of everyone from Drew Barrymore to George Lopez to Placido Domingo, is tracking through the roof, and it is a surefire box office winner. Chihuahua is the first of four likely blockbusters from Disney set for release in the fourth quarter. The House That Mickey Built will also be scoring big with High School Musical 3: Senior Year on Oct. 24; followed by the animated 3D doggie comedy Bolt, arriving on the Friday before Thanksgiving; and the Adam Sandler family adventure film Bedtime Stories, coming on Christmas Day. It would not be surprising for this to become a quartet of $100 million grossing pictures.

Though we posted a YouTube link to this same trailer last week, now we have the full-quality version of the theatrical trailer for Bedtime Stories, a children's movie that I refuse to feel bad for looking forward to. Again we see the story of the slacker Skeeter, who starts telling his niece and nephew bedtime stories that come true in his own life the next day. If you never thought you'd see Adam Sandler as a cowboy or a gladiator, well, get ready to believe it. Check out the trailer below, sent to us by Disney. Bedtime Stories comes out on Christmas Day.

Adam Sandler scored yet another summer hit with 2008.s You Don.t Mess With the Zohan. In this broad comedy, Sandler plays Israeli counter-terrorist agent Zohan Dvir, the hottest thing their forces can boast. Whenever an impossible situation arises, the authorities call on .The Zohan. to solve the problem.
Unfortunately, he tires of this life. Instead, he dreams that he.ll move to America and become a hairdresser. Unfortunately, his parents mock this desire and leave him despondent.
But not for long. After an encounter with a notorious Palestinian terrorist named The Phantom (John Turturro), Zohan fakes his own death. From there he escapes to New York so he can pursue his hairdressing career. The film follows his adventures in styling, his personal relationships, and complications that connect to his prior life.
Virtually every time I review a Sandler movie, I remind the reader that I maintain an inherent affection for the actor.

You Dont mess with the Zohan is what you might expect. Your typical Adam Sandler comedy. If you have seen one you have seen them all from the stand point of the kind of humor you should expect. Its toilet humor, its low brow humor but it does work and it does at times make you laugh out loud... or it did me. I would be curious to know if Palestinians or Israeli's were offended by this film but it takes equal pot shots at stereotypes about both peoples cultures. Adam Sandler is back as The Zohan, the finest counterterrorist agent the Israeli army has. That is, until he fakes his death and tra...

Not too long ago, we showed you the first TV spot for the Adam Sandler starring kiddie comedy BEDTIME STORIES. The full trailer apparently aired on TV recently and the folks over at "The Movie Box" were cool enough to encode it and download it to the internets. In the film, Sandler stars as a guy who tells bedtime stories to his niece and nephew (Courteney Cox being the mom) that amazingly start coming true. Which is why it's raining gumballs in the picture to the right. Check out...

Many, many people have described Adam Sandler's sense of humor as childish, but up to this point the hugely successful comedian hasn't done a movie strictly for kids. It turns out that's a shame: The trailer for Bedtime Stories, Sandler's next movie, has hit YouTube, and it looks both hilarious and perfect for an entire family full of imaginative kids. The concept is beautifully simple. Sandler plays an uncle assigned to babysit his niece and nephew for the weekend, and finds himself telling them a bedtime story. The next day, everything he said in the story comes true in his own life. He tries to use this to his advantage-- telling stories about himself meeting beautiful women, or winning tons of money-- but when the kids add in their own elements, things start to go awry. Look closely for Russell Brand, last seen being completely hilarious in Forgetting Sarah Marshall.

Adam Sandler's latest flick "Bedtime Stories" has just got its first trailer. Telling the story of a harried architect whose life turns upside down after the bed time stories he tells his niece and nephew begin to come true, the Walt Disney Pictures film is slated to be released on Christmas day (December 25) this year.
Whatever the kids come up with each evening before the bed, the handyman has to survive in real life, be it gumball rain, kicked by a dwarf or set on fire. But as suggested by his friend, he started making use of the phenomenon to gain him some advantages.
"Bedtime Stories" is directed by "Hairspray" helmer, Adam Shankman, and supported by a sterling cast including Keri Russell, Guy Pearce, Courteney Cox, Teresa Palmer and Russell Brand.

Hollywood's next wave of fantasy movies seems to be obsessing over the idea of bringing stories to life by telling them. Adam Sandler is doing it in Bedtime Stories and Brendan Fraser is doing it in Inkheart. Bedtime Stories is taking a more real world, Bruce Almight approach, while Brendan Fraser's movie is going whole hog with the CGI and launching its cast into another on of those now fairly standard, sort of like LOTR, fantasy worlds. It doesn't just use that LOTR look, it even uses some of the cast, with Andy Serkis as the villain. Inkheart has a brand new trailer, and you'll get a better feel for what it's about, by watching it below.

I can't throw these up for you to conveniently click on right in the post (fie embedding disabled!), but read on for links to two funky new television spots.
First up is Adam Sandler's Bedtime Stories. We've seen the gumballs rain down on Sandler, and now there's a cute TV spot to get the whole gist of the picture. Basically, Mr. Zohan plays an architect who concocts bedtime stories for his niece and nephew. They begin coming true, but it's not only raining sugar and fantastic tales of a dude named Skiacus (or Skeetacus? I don't know..). The kids throw dangerous, awe-inspiring feats into the mix, and Sandler must face them in real life. It's a cute premise and I've got to say, a thoroughly enjoyable trailer. Sandler is the perfect guy to match ridiculous feats with real incredulity, and this is the first time I've been excited for a Sandler film in eons.

The first footage from Adam Sandler's upcoming comedy Bedtime Stories has aired and can be seen below. This looks like a rather fantastical and magical film - the perfect Disney holiday movie. We haven't actually ever seen a trailer, but this is our first look at any actual footage and I must say it's a bit crazy. It looks like some combination of Zathura and The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, in addition to every other fairy tale you can think of. If you need a quick explanation behind the story, Adam Sandler plays a hotel handyman whose life changes when the lavish bedtime stories he tells his niece and nephew start to magically come true. We'll be featuring the trailer when it does hit, but for now check out this TV spot. The first TV spot for the Adam Sandler starring kiddie comedy BEDTIME STORIES is here and it's really more of a trailer in that it runs a little longer than a typical TV spot and we get a good idea of the story. Nothing shown screams "must see" but it's Sandler so there should be at least a few things worth scoping out. Click to check out the TV spot. The stories...

Since his turn as the highly unfortunate Ted Stroehmann in There's Something About Mary, Ben Stiller has been one of the top comic actors in Hollywood. Hardly an overnight sensation, though, Ben has forged a career through hard work and determination. His early roles include bit parts in TV (Fast Eddie Felcher in Miami Vice), two short-lived eponymous comedy shows and supporting Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler prior to his big break as Cameron Diaz's co-star. With Ben's new film Tropic Thunder on the horizon, we uncover ten fascinating bits of trivia on one of cinema's preeminent mirth makers. 1. Making people laugh is something that runs through Ben's blood, with his parents being renowned comics and actors Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara. You might recognise Jerry as George Costanza's dad in Seinfeld and Anne as Mary Brady from (more)

With the likes of Will Ferrell and Adam Sandler no longer able to whet my whistle, and Seth Rogen moving towards superhero territory, I'm waiting for some demented imbecile with just a pinch of charm and a dash of wit to step in and make me blush again.
