In what I can only pray is a kind of “That would be fun, we should make that movie someday,”-story because I can’t fathom why Jamie Foxx would want to go back and make a movie starring his stand-up/”In Loving Color” character, Wanda Wayne. You don’t see Jim Carrey angling for a Fire Marshall Bill movie and Foxx has far more respect and critical appreciation than Carrey.
On the other hand, I completely understand Martin Lawrence digging his stand-up/”Martin” character, Sheneneh Jenkins for a movie since Lawrence has shown he has no interest in expanding beyond the “College Road Trip”/”Big Momma’s House”-type films he’s done for the past several years. But regardless of their career trajectories, Lawrence and Foxx are planning to star in a feature film crossover of their 90s, ugly women character, “Sheneneh and Wanda”. Hit the jump for details. »

I'm not sure if I should be comparing Tyler Perry to Adam Sandler or to Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer. In regards to the former, both create calculated genre films that pull in expected and respectable numbers for each box office outing. But, in regards to the latter, both work within an overly-formulaic series that.s seemingly churned out by an automaton. Seriously, the sheer speed with which Perry's films are cranked out is frightening.same with the Movie Movies. Lionsgate, the company behind both series, has clearly perfected the formula: markedly tiny budgets and poorly written films poised to exploit built-in audiences. With this said, I am here today to give you fine folks a sneak at Perry's new concoction of awesomeness: the trailer for Why Did I Get Married Too?. The entirety of the original cast has returned for this sequel to Why Did I Get Married (2007), including »

I think it's safe to tell you, without spoiling the movie, that The Men Who Stare at Goats includes a couple of scenes with Jeff Bridges and George Clooney dancing around. The scenes are amusing and a little strange -- why are soldiers dancing? But they did fit consistently with the film as a whole. However, I was reminded of moments in movies that aren't musicals, but suddenly shift to some crazy kind of dance or musical number. I love these moments, and in fact I wish the dance scenes in The Men Who Stare at Goats were a little less toned-down and a little more "Wtf?"
Okay, I'm kind of Bs'ing you here. The Men Who Stare at Goats is a flimsy excuse. I really just wanted to write about surreal dance numbers in otherwise straightforward movies, because that can be so much fun. Last year's Adam Sandler vehicle »

Comedy Central seems to be pretty hungry for comedian-run sketch shows lately. They recently premiered the pilot of The Jeff Dunham Show to lukewarm reception, and another show starring Gabriel Iglesias and Bill Engvall is on the way. Earlier this week, yet another show was announced, in the form of a pilot for a show starring comedian Nick Swardson.
Swardson has made his way around the stand up circuit for years now, but most people will remember him from his supporting roles in Grandma’s Boy, Benchwarmers, and You Don’t Mess With The Zohan (he must be liked by the Sandler camp).
The network is apparently more than happy to add Swardson’s creativity to the growing camp of Comedy Central’s original programming. From The Hollywood Reporter:
“We love Nick at Comedy Central and even more importantly, our audience loves Nick,” said Comedy Central programming president Lauren Corrao. »

How did this news slip past us all? According to a source that the guys over at Pajiba have, Robert Rodriguez won’t be directing the long in-development live-action Jetsons movie. It was only this summer that we got word that The Jetsons was firmly on its way, with an early draft of the script having been written, and Rodriguez himself sounding enthusiastic after he said he’s been working on ideas for the adaptation for a long time.
However, Rodriguez has his fingers in a lot of pies right about now: He has his full-length Machete movie (currently in the editing stages); he’s heavily involved in the Predators reboot; apparently he has Spy Kids 4 in the works (it was only a matter of time…); and, of course, there’s the much-anticipated, long gestating Sin City 2 (which could be filming next year, last we heard). So it’s kind of understandable, »

This weekend the streets around the Excel Centre in East London were filled with geeks, gamers, movie-buffs and cos-players, as the McM Expo once more rolled into town.
It’s still a fairly intimate affair, but since its inception in 2002 the Expo has grown from a collectors’ show into a genuinely important, biannual event for the UK anime, comic, computer game and film industries.
One of the highlights of the show this time round was Optimum Releasing’s promotion for their forthcoming film, The Losers.
Based on the comic by writer Andy Diggle and artist Jock, the film tells the story of a team of Special Forces operatives who are turned on by their CIA handlers. The comic itself is a re-jig of a World War II-set comic that ran during the seventies and early eighties.
During the course of the day, Optimum provided Expo attendees with various treats, including »

Is it a widely known fact anymore that the evening before Halloween is called Devil's Night? I'm not sure of the history myself, but the term has its origins in 1930s Detroit, if Wikipedia is to be believed (I know, I know-- that's a big "if"). According to tradition, the night would be marked by youthful acts of vandalism and petty crime, though the transgressions increased in severity through the years, with arson unfortunately becoming a common practice through the 1970s and '80s. That all changed in the mid-'90s, when the city organized the volunteer-driven "Angel's Night" and started enforcing age-based curfews. Fans of "The Crow" -- currently in the midst of a week-long retrospective on MTV Splash Page -- are of course familiar with the term, as it factors heavily into that movie.
Grim associations aside, it's a cool name that lends itself well to this particular list feature. »

Thinking outside the box when it comes to naming babies goes part and parcel with being a celebrity, and in their search to come up with the perfect moniker some have clearly pushed that envelope more than others. According to nameberry.com co-founder Linda Rosenkrantz, word names are an increasingly popular way to do just that.
“When looking for a really unusual baby name, many celebrities have started to search the dictionary for a noun or adjective that will define their child, choosing words that have rarely, if ever been used before as people-names,” she explains.

I didn’t fall head over heels in love with Tropic Thunder as many other people did; I found it overlong and Jack Black’s performance sucked all the air out after Robert Downey Jr. would fill it up again. That’s not to say it’s bad. It’s really very good, just not mind-blowing.
One film that was very very bad was Men in Black 2, which rehashed every element of the first Will Smith/Tommy Lee Jones vehicle and halved the amount of laughs.
So, the news that Tropic Thunder scribe Etan Cohen (also responsible for the criminally underrated Idiocracy) will be taking over screenwriting duties for Men in Black 3 is definitely good news for the franchise. What isn’t good news is that so far, Smith and Jones haven’t signed deals to return. Maybe it’s time for new actors to fill the MiB shoes, »

The man might have terrible taste in comedy special titles, but it's helped him score on his own little corner of the TV dial.
Comedian Nick Swardson has scored his own sketch comedy series on Comedy Central. The show will hit the air next year and feature a lot of digital shorts and animation, some of which will be based on almost Python-esque "Gay Robot" character. Swardson and Adam Sandler actually shot a pilot for his "Gay Robot" character years ago and thanks to the magic of YouTube, you can also enjoy it. Warning: if you're easily offended by jokes of a sexual nature, please get over yourself and grow a sense of humor before watching it.

Adam Sandler will play a twin brother and sister in his new movie.
The 'Funny People' actor will don drag for one of his parts in romantic comedy 'Jack And Jill', in which he will reportedly take on both title roles.
Adam's own Happy Madison production company are making the movie, which will be scripted by 'Click' writer Steve Koren.
Few details of the plot of the film have been released and it is unclear whether it will be based on the traditional nursery rhyme of the same name.
Filming is expected to begin next year, with a planned release date of 2011. Adam is not the only Hollywood star to announce he will don drag for a major role.
It was recently revealed that 'X Men Origins: Wolverine' actor Ryan Reynolds will cross-dress in an as-yet untitled movie which will see his character disguise himself in »

For those of you who groaned when you heard the news Ryan Reynolds will be starring in drag in an as-yet-untitled movie from writer Allen Loeb (Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps), brace yourselves. This is even worse.
Jack and Jill, the latest film from Adam Sandler's Happy Madison production company, will feature Sandler playing both Jack and Jill, according to Cmr. The script is by writer Steve Koren (Click), but little else is known about the project at this time.
Is it too early to start praying the movie won't be in 3-D?

This month's new Adam Sandler movie project to report is officially classified as set with the romantic comedy genre. Since I am such a huge fan of Mr. Sandler's material, especially the movies where he acts like an emotionally stunted man-child (oh wait, that's nearly all* Adam Sandler movies! Silly me!), I can't let it slip by my attention about the facts concerning his new project, Jack and Jill.
Variety's Tatiana Siegel, who's more polite in holding back any derision she has for Sandler, spills some facts about the movie but doesn't have more of the movie's premise save for the factoid that the SNL-er will be playing both the Jack and the Jill twin brother and sister roles in the film. How the rest of the film is shaped storywise remains a mystery for now, much like the fate of Amelia Earhart, the location of Jimmy Hoffa and »

I would have thought making fun of his goofy, broad comedy roles in Funny People would mean the end of family-friendly Adam Sandler, but I guess he gave up making audiences laugh this decade.
Columbia Pictures has signed him for Jack and Jill and he’ll be playing both the male and female parts. Jill is, of course, his twin sister and the perfect opportunity for Sandler to dress as a woman at the age of 43. Who’s ready to laugh?
According to Variety, the project was pitched to Happy Madison productions (Sandler’s company and a stinging reminder of when he was funny) by Todd Garner. You might not know who that is, but he’s the guy that brought Paul Blart: Mall Cop to America.
Unfortunately that’s all the details we have on this laugh riot, but maybe we’ll know a bit more when it starts »
