The 'Pushing Daisies' actress - who owns houses in Los Angeles and London - loves her transatlantic lifestyle, but hates organising trips to see her parents in Rochdale, Lancashire. Anna Friel was shocked at how much she loved her daughter. The "Land of the Lost" actress - who raises four-year-old Gracie Ellen Mary with her partner of nine years, "Harry Potter" actor David Thewlis - hadn't planned on having children but was amazed at the feelings she had when she became a mother.
She said: "I never planned it. If you don't have children, all I'm saying is that you'll miss out on having this beautiful, innocent, adorable little thing that'll love you like you've never been loved before. And it makes everything else just not as important, so you go at things with a lot more confidence."
Anna also admits Gracie's arrival "changed everything" about the logistics of her relationship with David but says she still likes to be in control.
She told Britain's Sunday Times newspaper: "I like her ruling the roost, and dictating what happens."

Michael Tran/FilmMagic Like 5 ½-year-old Ella Rae Wahlberg before her, celebrity baby Gracie Ellen Mary Friel, 4, is beginning to ask questions about when mom Anna Friel and dad David Thewlis will make their relationship official!
While Ella got her wish earlier this month, it remains to be seen whether Gracie will as well. Anna tells Now that marriage is “the question we’re both asked the most,” and Gracie often leads the charge. Says the 33-year-old Pushing Daisies star,
“[She] keeps saying, ‘Mummy, when are you getting married?’ I suppose that puts on a bit more pressure, when your daughter’s asking, but if things work, why change them?”
As for whether or not the longtime couple will someday make Gracie a big sister, Anna admits that the issue is on her radar. “I’m wondering when would be the best time to have a second child,” she muses. “I think »

Here's a lengthy trailer for Mr. Nice, starring the charismatic Welsh actor Rhys Ifans as the charismatic Welsh drug smuggler and possible spy Howard Marks. The film is directed by Bernard Rose (Candyman, Immortal Beloved) and based on Marks' autobiography: a collection of tall tales taking from his childhood in South Wales, to his university life at Oxford, to his world-renown as a cannabis dealer and smuggler, and master of the absurd disguise. At one time or another he was supposedly connected to the CIA, MI6, the Ira, the Mafia, and the Mexican secret service. If there is the occasional unfortunate resemblance to The Boat That Rocked in the trailer (the music, the period setting, Ifans getting it on with assorted ladeez), that should surely only be cosmetic. There's a lot of mileage for globetrotting drama, adventure and big laughs in Marks' version of his life story, and Ifans seems jawdroppingly well cast. »

This trailer for Mr. Nice was pitched to me as "British version of Blow based on the true story of Howard Marks." Though I think it seems more like a British version of American Gangster. Mr. Nice stars Rhys Ifans as Howard Marks as well as Chloe Sevigny, David Thewlis, Elsa Pataky, Andrew Tiernan, and Jack Huston. This actually looks pretty damn good, so I thought it'd be worth featuring today. The trailer is very long, over three minutes, so make sure you're settled in before you watch it. This actually looks a lot better than I was expecting and the mix of comedy and drama also seems like it'll be a unique touch. Take a look! The life and times of cultural icon and one of the most infamous British drug barons in crime history comes alive in Mr. Nice, Bernard Rose's movie version of the popular Howard Marks expose of the same name.
Having brought you the first stills from the project back in may, we're happy to be the first to bring you the trailer, which totally impresses with its period charm and love for its larger-than-life subject.
The outrageous and surreal true story of Howard Marks is set to premiere in 2010. It stars a stellar cast including Rhys Ifans, indie darling Chloë Sevigny and, one of my personal favorites, the great David Thewlis.

Pushing Daisies star Anna Friel has quick-thinking doctors to thank for her daughter - as a medical condition almost left her infertile.
Brit actress Friel, has daughter Gracie, four, with actor partner David Thewlis - but her dream of having a family almost didn't happen.
In 2001 Friel collapsed in agony and needed an emergency operation after suffering a burst ovarian cyst - with doctors discovering she also had endometriosis, which makes it difficult for women to conceive.
She says, "It was all very dramatic and frightening. A terrible shock. I lost two litres of blood and had to have two transfusions. The doctors saved my ovaries but they said that to stand a chance of having children I had to conceive within five years, before I was 30."
Friel gave birth to Gracie in 2005, aged 28. »

Michael Tran/FilmMagic Working motherhood isn’t what it used to be, Anna Friel, 33, notes in a new interview with Closer magazine. “I think it’s very different nowadays,” she opines. “Before, a woman could take two years off — a year for her pregnancy and then the first year, but I don’t think that’s possible for women in show business or in any industry any more.” Her own return to the workforce was fraught with worry, and her advice for other new moms is to “keep going — keep looking forward.”
“If you stop, you’re like, ‘Oh God, it’s too overwhelming.’ And believe me, I’ve had my fair share of those moments.”
One came while filming Goal! shortly after the 2005 birth of daughter Gracie Ellen Mary, 4, when an “over-tired” Anna went a full week without sleep. “The ground was moving and I felt I was going to faint, »

The great series hits a speed bump.

"Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" is one of the darkest of the Potter books, so it's no surprise that the movie version is the darkest of the films to date. What is surprising — and I say this as someone who loves the books and has loved the movies up to this point — is how sluggish the new picture is. It gets underway with a limp scene set in a train-station café — a trivial flirtation between Harry, now 16, and an admiring waitress — and proceeds in surges and sags for the next two and a half hours. There are some marvelous scenes, beautiful images, wonderful moments — it isn't a "bad" movie by any reckoning. But it isn't up to the sweeping dynamic level of some of the pictures that preceded it.

Crime pays... at least it does if you're Stephen Graham, who's played his fair share of movie villains but is crossing to the right side of the law to play a detective in William Monahan's noir thriller London Boulevard. Monahan, who knows his way around shady moral hinterlands having scripted The Departed and Body Of Lies, makes his directorial debut on the film which is shaping up to be a very interesting ensemble piece. The talented Graham joins a cast that includes Colin Farrell as a recently-paroled criminal and Keira Knightley who plays the reclusive young thesp he falls for. There's strong support from Ray Winstone, as a former crime boss, as well as David Thewlis and Anna Friel. Presumably Graham will appear somewhere in this mix of likely lads and ladettes to bang some heads together as a Cid detective.London Boulevard sees Graham return to a UK »
