Barbra Streisand talks to The Doctors

8 hours ago | AOL - TVSquad | See recent AOL - TVSquad news »

There will be an interesting guest checking in with The Doctors today -- Barbra Streisand. No, the singer/actress/director won't be talking about dry throat or stage fright or even tinnitus, an ailment she suffers from that causes an unending high-pitched ringing in the ears.

Barbra Streisand is calling in to The Doctors to discuss heart health awareness for women... and even though I've never watched The Doctors, I will today. I guess that's why and how celebrity helps causes like this. It draws attention and, presumably, I'm going to get something of value out of tuning in. I've already had my eyes opened.

Say what you will about Roland Emmerich and his films, the director knows how to destroy the world on screen and make shed loads of money. His most recent disaster epic 2012 destroyed all competition and banked an impressive $65 million over the weekend to capture the number one position. The film has so far grossed an amazing $225million worldwide from a $200 million budget.

Disney’s A Christmas Carol is showing legs like a supermodel. The film dropped only 23% from last weekend for a $23 million take. It should play well in the run-up to Christmas and then have »

'New Moon' Star Robert Pattinson Wants To Produce As Well As Act

13 November 2009 10:30 AM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

From MTV.Com: When Edward Cullen was 18 years old in 1919, Hollywood superstars Charlie Chaplin, Douglas Fairbanks and Mary Pickford came up with the idea for United Artists — a studio that would give actors greater control over which films they got to make and take the creative decisions away from commercial-minded studio execs. When Edward was 68 years old, Paul Newman, Sidney Poitier and Barbra Streisand made waves with their First Artists Production Company, pledging the same actors-first mentality.

Now, Robert Pattinson is determined to mark Edward's upcoming second-century teenage period with a similar endeavor, using his newfound star power to make the kind of movies he wants to see.

Linda Eder Comes To The Van Wezel 12/9 With A Holiday Concert

9 November 2009 2:18 PM, PST | BroadwayWorld.com | See recent BroadwayWorld.com news »

Linda Eder, the songstress whose larger-than-life voice has been called "the human equivalent of a Stradivarius" (theatermania.com) returns to the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall on Wednesday, Dec. 9 with a concert of holiday songs and favorites from her CDs. Tickets to the concert, at 8 p.m., are $40-$55 (with a limited number of "smart seats" at $10).

Often compared to Barbra Streisand and Judy Garland, two of her musical influences, the Minnesota native first captured public attention with her unprecedented 12- week winning streak on the TV show Star Search. The success expanded her fan base nationally and led to a leading role as Lucy Harris in the 1990 Broadway- bound musical Jekyll & Hyde. The mainstay of Eder's career, however, remains the concert stage.

Reviewing a recent concert, Chicago Tribune Arts Editor Howard Reich raved that Eder has "the most voluptuous voice in pop music today."

Eli Roth On His Acting Journey from 'Worst Extra Ever' to Bear Jew

9 November 2009 8:15 AM, PST | Movieline | See recent Movieline news »

Before this year, only horror geeks would stop Eli Roth on the street. Now, though, the Hostel director has cultivated a whole new fanbase as an actor after appearing as the Nazi-bashing Bear Jew in Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds. Roth attended last night's Behind the Camera Awards with his friend and Basterds costar Christoph Waltz, and he had plenty to say to Movieline about his newfound recognition (as well as heaps of praise for Basterds editor Sally Menke, who was honored last night). Still, while the Bear Jew is all well and good, what we really wanted to know about was Roth's inauspicious acting debut in Barbra Streisand's The Mirror Has Two Faces. Matt Damon, from private campaigner to Hollywood's biggest star

9 November 2009 1:59 AM, PST | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

A clutch of new films will cement Matt Damon's reputation as the hit of his generation. But that won't change this most reserved and politically committed of actors. Vanessa Thorpe reports

Runners taking part in the annual Miami Triathlon this time last year were surprised to spot a familiar face crossing the finishing line. It looked very like Jason Bourne, the implacable, brain-washed hitman, who was coming in with a time of just under an hour for the 6.2 mile leg. In fact Matt Damon, who plays Bourne in the trio of hit films based on Robert Ludlum's character, was competing in an effort to lose some weight. He had gained 30lbs that summer to play the part of the chubby, delusional executive at the centre of The Informant!, Steven Soderbergh's new film.

Its recent premiere in America may well prove the high-water mark of an already illustrious career. »

Minnelli Sex And The City Storyline 'A Hoax'

30 October 2009 6:26 PM, PDT | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Rumours the new Sex And The City movie will feature a gay wedding and performances by Liza Minnelli and Barbra Streisand has been blasted as a hoax by star Mario Cantone.

Details of the film's top secret plot appeared to have been leaked in recent weeks, with sources insisting the two divas would appear in a ceremony uniting Cantone's character Anthony Marantino and Willie Garson's Stanford Blatch.

Minnelli herself told an Australian newspaper she performed a version of Beyonce's Single Ladies (Put a Ring on it) for the film.

But Cantone insists the rumours are false - hinting they are part of a deliberate ploy to throw fans and the press off the scent.

The actor tells NYPost.com's PopWrap blog, "No, nothing's true. I hadn't even read that. That's hilarious."

And he laughs off the suggestion of a Minnelli cameo: "No, I would have self-combusted! I would have been dead. I wouldn't be here talking to you. I don't even know that she's in the movie." »

First Hand Rose.

29 October 2009 4:29 PM, PDT | FilmExperience | See recent FilmExperience news »

Jose here to commemorate Fanny Brice's birthday. The extravagant comedienne would've turned 118 today. Yes, seriously, watching her energy in films like The Great Ziegfeld (where she played herself) or listening to her vibrant musical performances it's easy to think that this woman could've lived forever.

A New Yorker born from Hungarian parents, she made a way for herself in the burlesque world and later by her association with Florenz Ziegfeld. She became a huge musical star and a popular radio personality with her Baby Snooks character.

But what remains fascinating about Brice is that she pulled off an enviable career using raw talent. Would someone like her fit in our current notions of what makes an entertainer appealing?

Sure her life was plagued with scandal (her marriage to Nicky Arnstein wasn't as tragically romantic as pop culture has us think) and that would've fit wonderfully in our tabloid loving society. »

Paul Newman's generosity is outliving him - the late movie icon has just topped a new list of celebrity givers.

The actor, who died in September 2008, beat out philanthropists Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie and Mel Gibson on a new The Giving Back Fund poll, which will be published in Sunday's Parade magazine in America.

Newman has handed out an estimated $21 million (GBP13 million) to health, education and environmental initiatives - and his Newman's Own foundation continues to raise cash for charity.

Pitt and Jolie come in second on the list with hand-outs that total $13.4 million (GBP8.3 million) and Gibson is third.

The new big givers top 12 list also features Oprah Winfrey, actor Sam Waterson, author Patricia Cornwell and Barbra Streisand. »

Lea Michele Speaks on "Rachel's Journey" on Glee

She may have starred in Spring Awakening, a Tony Award-winning play on Broadway, but nothing coud have prepared Lea Michele for Glee.

The show is the most buzzed-about, critically-praised, fun-loving hour on television - and Michele's Rachel Berry is at the center of almost every episode.

The adorable young star has handled the attention well, however, and she gave TV Guide Magazine a preview of what's to come for her character in an interview this week:

On Rachel's future: What I have learned is just how much this is Rachel’s journey to becoming a team player and learning who she is within this group. You look at Rachel and realize that she is not someone who needs help speaking her mind. This Glee club allows all of the kids to use their voice and let the voice inside of them come out.

'New Moon' Soundtrack Rises to No. 1 on Billboard Hot 200

28 October 2009 8:13 PM, PDT | Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news »

After only managing to enter at the second place on Billboard Hot 200 last week, "The Twilight Saga's New Moon" soundtrack album finally moves to number one. Filled with songs from Death Cab for Cutie, Thom Yorke, The Killers and Muse among others, it pushes aside two-week champ Michael Buble's "Crazy Love" to No. 3.

According Nielsen SoundScan, "New Moon" album has sold additional 153,000 copies (up 33%) in its first full week of release. Last week, it garnered around 115,000 after just three days on sale. It is the second soundtrack compilation to rule the U.S. albums chart this year, following "Hannah Montana: The Movie" album which reigned the chart after four weeks on sale.

Back on the chart, Tim McGraw debuts at No. 2 with his tenth studio album "Southern Voice". He claims the spot with 137,000 copies which marks his lowest debut sale week since his 1995 album "All I Want" entered No. 4 on the chart with 110,000 units sold. »

Now that's more like it. After debuting at #2 last week, the soundtrack to the upcoming "Twilight" sequel, "New Moon," will take its rightful place atop the Billboard 200 chart next week thanks to more than 153,000 vampire and werewolf-loving shoppers. In its first full week in stores, the star-packed soundtrack outsold the #2 debut of country stalwart Tim McGraw's Southern Voice (137,000) and also pushed chart champ Michael Bublé's Crazy Love down to #3 (102,000), according to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan.

Plucky one-man electro-emo act Owl City, continuing an amazing march up the charts thanks to the hit single "Fireflies," finally broke into the top 10 after more than three months of steady sales increases, leaping 12 spots to #8 on sales of 28,000 (an increase of more than 30 percent). Weekend Movie News Wrap Up: October 26, 2009

26 October 2009 7:55 AM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

This week:

Over the weekend the box office Saw some Paranormal Activity; Carl Ellsworth was hired by Paramount but he wants C.O.D (Cash On Delivery); True Blood’s Ryan Kwanten is Griff the Invisible; Derek Mears gears up for Predators and Laura Dern Meets Stiller and family.

Wow. It looks like the Saw franchise has finally come to a grisly end. The sixth film in the horror franchise opened with 50% less than what was predicted, earning a not-so-good $14.7 million. The film probably only cost about $15 million to make, but this poor gross means that it’ll have to have some serious overseas takings to make new installments viable.

The flipside to Saw’s demise was the $22 million that Paranormal Activity took over the weekend - from a thousand less screens than Saw!

With a cost of approximately $11,000 (yeah, you read that right) it looks like Oren Peli’s »

Oscar... Now With More Spirit Fingers

Shankman's got spirit!

Do you follow the Oscar show news in the way you follow the Oscars? I don't so much, despite this life I lead constantly writin' about the awards themselves. I care who hosts to some degree but I tend to ignore the rest. But I found it interesting this week when director Adam Shankman (Hairspray) was named as one of the producers and his choreography skills were noted as a reason to be enthused about this assignment. At least he has a sense of humor about his, um, limited history with the big event I was one of Paula Abdul's 'Under the Sea' pirates," Shankman said. "The last time I was at the Oscars, I was in Lycra, with a pirate hat on. Shankman's presence must mean more musical numbers. I'm all for musical numbers provided they rehire Hugh Jackman as host. He was so fine last year. »

Tomlin Stunned Hepburn During Backstage Meeting

23 October 2009 12:06 PM, PDT | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Veteran actress Lily Tomlin once risked the wrath of Katharine Hepburn when she invaded the Hollywood icon's personal space to plant several kisses on her face.

The Desperate Housewives star was appearing in a Broadway production of one-woman play The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe in 1985 when she discovered top movie stars Barbra Streisand, Meryl Streep and Hepburn were sitting in the audience.

And Tomlin was so excited when Hepburn came backstage to meet her, she admits she may have overstepped the boundaries with the notoriously frosty star.

She explains, "One night I was on Broadway and Meryl Streep, Katharine Hepburn and Barbra Streisand came. I didn't know. I heard someone coming up to the dressing room and I saw Katharine Hepburn's face coming towards me. And I grabbed hold of her face and started kissing her.

"If you know Katharine Hepburn, she would not like that. And she didn't do anything! I was kissing her and she was so gracious, she didn't really say anything unpleasant." »

Barbra Streisand's screen-worn items fetch thousands at auction

23 October 2009 5:26 AM, PDT | Boxwish.com | See recent BoxWish news »

Barbra Streisand’s been enjoying a bit of attention on Boxwish of late. Just a few weeks ago, Babs (can we call you Babs?) caught our attention with her revelation that she recycled a movie set as her basement (see Related Content, right) and now it’s her onscreen fashions that have appeared on our radar. As rather than let them rot at the back of her wardrobe or perhaps throw one on to do the hoovering (as we’re sure she does when no-one’s looking), she’s sold a number of them, along with hundreds of other personal items, at an auction raising thousands for charity. Nice work Babs. »
