Taking Woodstock | Film review

14 November 2009 4:05 PM, PST | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

In The Ice Storm, Ang Lee turned a sharp, compassionate eye on affluent ex-urban New England at Thanksgiving 1973 where, as the Watergate scandal escalates, the president's bad faith is echoed in the life of an adulterous Wall Street analyst. He now goes back four years earlier to Nixon's first term in the White House and the reaction against the Vietnam War, and the expression of the new liberation that manifested itself at the 1969 Woodstock Festival up the Hudson in New York State.

The perspective here is that of Elliot Tiber (Demetri Martin), a gay Jewish painter and designer taking time out from his Manhattan day job to help out his overbearing parents at their rundown Catskills motel and goes into business with the festival's hippie organisers. The film uses the split-screen devices of Michael Wadleigh's classic 1970 Woodstock documentary, and some of the music is distantly heard, but Elliot is »

Salt Script Review

6 November 2009 10:45 PM, PST | newsinfilm.com | See recent newsinfilm news »

When Kurt Wimmer’s (Equilibrium) script for Salt was originally picked up by Columbia Pictures, Tom Cruise was attached for the lead.  However, scheduling conflicts or it’s resemblance to Mission: Impossible caused him to take a walk, leaving the role wide open for Angelina Jolie.

A few gender tweaks were all they needed to turn this Cold War thriller into an action vehicle for a strong woman.  Having read the script, audiences are in for one hell of an awesome flick in July 2010.

The trailer indicates there have been some changes since Wimmer’s draft, which received rewrites by Brian Helgeland (Oscar winning screenwriter of Mystic River).  For example, a key assassination attempt is shown as an explosion rather than the sniper operation described in the script’s quickly-turning pages.  But it’s clear from the trailer that one thing remains as the core element in the film: this »

Salt Trailer - Now In English!

5 November 2009 9:25 AM, PST | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

The trailer for Salt debuted in low-fi Russian a couple of days ago, but here it is in rather spiffing English, making events a good bit more comprehensible for those of us on this side of the former Iron Curtain. Check it out over here on Yahoo! That's Angelina Jolie as Evelyn Salt, a CIA officer implicated in a supposed plot to assassinate the President of the Us. Rather than simply talk things out (which would make a well boring movie) she goes on the run, dyes her hair and generally starts crashing vehicles into anyone who tries to stop her quest to prove her own innocence and save El Prez. The film's directed by Phillip Noyce, who knows his action onions, based on a script by Kurt Wimmer and Brian Helgeland. It also stars Liev Schreiber and Chiwetel Ejiofor. »

Salt teaser trailer online

The proper version of the Salt teaser trailer, starring Angelina Jolie, has gone up online. You may have caught the Russian version, but unless you speak Russian, most of the dialogue would have been impenetrable. Still, the action played well enough and now we all get to enjoy it with the added bonus of the original voices. It's being described as Lady Bourne Identity, and we can certainly see that. Jolie knows how to handle action - and it has a solid supporting cast which includes Liev Schreiber and Chiwetel Ejiofor. Take a look...

Teaser Trailer: Salt

4 November 2009 8:27 PM, PST | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Earlier today, a Russian version of the Salt trailer managed to leak onto the Internet and it was quickly culled by Sony. I’m glad as it was worth the wait to see it in HD. On other sites, it’s been compared to a Bourne-style conspiracy theory but what do you think? I’ve embedded it below or you can head over to Yahoo to view in HD.

Salt Stars Angelina Jolie, Liev Schreiber, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Andre Braugher and is directed by Phillip Noyce who has previously brought us Patriot Games and the Bone Collector which also starred Jolie. This means that Noyce is also no stranger to action as Patriot Games in my opinion was awesome and gave both Harrison Ford and Sean Bean a chance to shine. Check out the synopsis below then watch the trailer and you’ll soon see the similarities to the Bourne series. »

Angelina Jolie in New Teaser Trailer as Agent Salt

4 November 2009 5:42 PM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

I love salt, all types of salt really – Sea salt, table salt, rock salt and Evelyn Salt. Not familiar with that last one? She’s next summer’s female action spy played the ever so pouty-lipped Angelina Jolie. At one point, Tom Cruise was rumored to be attached to the Phillip Noyce (Patriot Games, The Bone Collector) directed secret double agent yarn but ultimately, Noyce and company decided to go with a more feminine touch. Good move guys!

Jolie has proven time and again that she is the go-to woman in Hollywood for lead female action roles. Say what you want about the Tomb Raider movie, but as Lara Croft there can be no other woman playing the part. Same goes for her roles in Mr. and Mrs. Smith and last summer’s Wanted. In Salt, she appears to be just as convincing while playing a wrongly accused woman on the run. »
