For this week's final Halloween movies list, I decided to turn hit up the real superstars: my co-workers here in the MTV Newsroom who keep this great ship moving every damn day. After the jump you'll find recommendations and reminiscences from around the office. If you're game for some heavy reading, make sure to check out the last write-up, detailing Joel Hanek's pick: "Ernest Scared Stupid." Oh yes, he went there.
As for myself (MTV Movies Blog editor Adam Rosenberg), it's a toss-up. To this day I still have occasional nightmares relating to "Candyman," the Bernard Rose-directed, Virginia Madsen-starring horror flick based on a tale by novelist Clive Barker. There's something uniquely terrifying about the Candyman's ability to attack at any time, day or night. When horror can touch you even in the relative safety of sunlight, that's something to fear.
The other one that still gets me, »

It’s a slow week for movie releases, with Fantastic Mr. Fox the only release of note in the UK, along with Cirque Du Freak. Most of the remaining big films this year are due out in November and December.
So, with the big winter films already hyped to the max, and with Iron Man 2, Clash of the Titans and Robin Hood being the highly anticipated movies this Spring, I thought i’d take a look at some Spring movies that maybe aren’t getting the attention they deserve – The Losers, Green Zone, A Couple of Dicks, Machete and Kick-Ass. Note, this is a list of the films i’m personally looking forward to, so you won’t necessarily agree with me…
When is it? – 9th April.
Where is it? – Currently filming in Puerto Rico
Who is it? – Directed by Sylvain White, starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Chris Evans, »

The upcoming fifth film from perfectionist director Terrence Malick has been pushed back to an undertermined release date in 2010. Tree Of Life stars Brad Pitt and Sean Penn in a heartfelt story about the loss of a son's innocence and the struggle to come to grips with it into adulthood. Other than that, details on the film have remained a mystery, as the director has managed to keep a tight lid on the whole thing. Already, Malick has been in the editing room for nearly a year.
The information was released by new distributor Apparition, whose new head Bob Berny said, "It's definitely not going to come out this year... I can't tell you when it will come out."
The acclaimed director of Badlands and Days Of Heaven conceived of the story for Tree Of Life nearly thirty years ago. He has decided to accompany the film in some way »

Here's an example of how long Hollywood can keep a project in development hell. Way back in 1997 Walt Disney Pictures bought the movie rights to Lorenzo Carcaterra's novel Apaches, a thriller about a group of retired NYC cops that assemble their own vigilante strike team to take down criminals that are above the law.
Carcaterra's novel has been stuck in Disney development hell ever since even though one of the town's major guys, Jerry Bruckheimer, has the rights. Now Disney is going to see if they can give it another go by hiring screenwriters Sean O'Keefe and Will Staples to write a new draft.
Carcaterra wrote a sequel to Apaches called Chasers which was published in 2007. Sleepers, the 1996 drama that starred Brad Pitt and Jason Patric, is based on another Carcaterra novel. He's also gone on to write a couple dozen episodes of Law & Order over the years.

When you get a look at this pic of Zoe Saldana from the set of The Losers, you can understand why I look forward to it. Saldana is playing the role of Aisha, who joins the crew of Losers, Clay (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), Roque (Idris Elba), Pooch (Columbus Short), Jensen (Chris Evans), and Cougar (Oscar Jaenada). All the members join together to take down mastermind Max (Jason Patric) who organized the assassination of Aisha's Father. The comics creator Andy Diggle says Saldana is perfect for... »

Oh, EW. Why, oh why? They get all these exclusive movie images and all they do is post shitty medium-sized versions of them on their site. What are they trying to save, bandwidth? Geez, I’ll never understand these people. Anyways, here’s your first look at Zoe Saldana in costume as Aisha in the upcoming comic book movie “The Losers”. The film co-stars Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Idris Elba, Columbus Short, Chris Evans, and Oscar Jaenada as former Special Forces soldiers who band together to take down the douchebag CIA agent (Jason Patric) who betrayed them and left them for dead. Our gang of merry men (and one hot woman) take the fight back to the CIA in an attempt to get someone’s attention. Blowing stuff up usually helps to do that. And the rest of losers: »

Zoe Saldana has been set to play Middle-Eastern hellion Aisha in "The Losers", and Entertainment Weekly has nailed the first look at the "Star Trek" actress in character. The first photo of the lone female member of the group was taken from the set, presenting the 31-year-old in costume which is completed with eyebrow piercing and tied-back hair.
Speaking about the casting of Saldana for the part, writer Andy Diggle who wrote the series opened up, "Aisha has to be deadly and desirable in equal measure, and Zoe embodies both qualities in spades." He furthermore added by promising, "Trust me, you've never seen her kick ass the way she does in The Losers!"
Based on the comic book series published by the Vertigo, "The Losers" has "Stomp the Yard" helmer Sylvain White taking the director's chair. Peter Berg and James Vanderbilt provide the script. Jeffrey Dean Morgan stars as Clay, »

Zoe Saldana is on a hot streak right now and it isn’t just because she’s hot. Hot off her victory as Uhura in “Star Trek”, Saldana still has “Avatar” at the end of the year, “Star Trek II” in her future, and in April 2010 she’ll be in the adaptation of the Vertigo comic series, “The Losers”. Saldana plays Aisha, “a mysterious South American hellion,” who joins forces with a burned CIA team (comprised of Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Idris Elba, Columbus Short, Chris Evans, and Oscar Jaenada) to take down a common enemy played by Jason Patric. The first set photo of Saldana has just landed online so that’s why she’s smiling instead of being in character and scowling like her comic-counterpart. Check out the photo after the jump and click here to see a photo of the burned CIA team where Jeffrey Dean Morgan forgot to wear his wife-beater. »

Don't let the smile fool you: Here's what Zoe Saldana looks like as a complete bad ass. Because that's what she's playing in The Losers, Warner Bros.' adaptation of the Vertigo comic book series -- written by Andy Diggle and drawn by Jock -- which follows a band of disavowed intelligence operatives trying to claw their way back into the world, by any means necessary. And some of those means involve massive amounts of property damage. Due in theaters in April of 2010, The Losers finds the once-and-future Uhura taking on the role of Aisha, a mysterious South American hellion »

O'Rourke's was our stage, and we displayed our personas there nightly. It was a shabby street-corner tavern on a dicey stretch of North Avenue, a block after Chicago's Old Town stopped being a tourist haven. In its early days it was heated by a wood-burning pot-bellied stove, and ice formed on the insides of the windows. One night a kid from the street barged in, whacked a customer in the front booth with a baseball bat, and ran out again. When a roomer who lived upstairs died, his body was discovered when maggots started to drop through the ceiling. A man nobody knew was shot dead one night out in back. From the day it opened on December 30, 1966 until the day I stopped drinking in 1979, I drank there more or less every night when I was in town. So did a lot of people.

We shared the first images of the Warner Brothers’ film The Losers a little over a month ago. Now, thanks to the power of Twitter, we have a new image from the set of the film. Actor Idris Elba (The Wire) tweeted the picture, which features himself, Columbus Short, Chris Evans, Óscar Jaenada and Jeffrey Dean Morgan looking appropriately bad-ass as they wait on the film’s Puerto Rican set.
The Losers, which also features Star Trek’s Zoe Saldana, revolves around an ex-cia Black Ops team who seek revenge against the mysterious Max (played by Jason Patric), their former handler and the man who betrayed them. The film is based on the Eisner-nominated DC/Vertigo comic book series of the same name, which ran from 2003 to 2006.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan is one of those actors who always seems on the cusp of really breaking out. His roles on Supernatural and Grey's Anatomy led to a turn as The Comedian in Watchmen, in which he was one of the highlights. He's currently shooting the Sylvain White-directed The Losers alongside Chris Evans, Zoe Saldana, Idris Elba and Jason Patric. And now he'll be in the remake of Red Dawn. Speaking to Collider when the site was amongst the crew at the not-so-secret set visit to The Losers, Morgan said he was taking the Powers Boothe role in the Red Dawn remake. Not a huge role, but a significant one. The news was later confirmed (or simply picked up, depending on your view) by Variety. The trade says Morgan will be "the leader of the U.S. Special Forces team who discovers the teens' stronghold while behind enemy lines. »

The adaptation of the DC/Vertigo comic series, The Losers, started production over a week ago in Puerto Rico for release next Spring. Today we have our first real look at the movie through some pics from the set, showing off two of the film’s stars, Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Watchmen) and Idris Elba (The Wire).
The set pics show Morgan and Elba in the midst of filming an action scene in Hato Rey, Puerto Rico. There’s not much to go on beyond that, except maybe that we get to see what the two actors look like in character: Elba’s hair is different than it usually is, and clearly the two characters are strapped. Anyway, check out a few of the pics below (click any for larger version):

We may have only one crack-team-in-South-America-action-movie on our minds after attending Jason 'The Expendables' Statham's birthday party this weekend (yes, really), but these on-set shots of comic-book special forces unit The Losers shows that it is coming together rather nicely. Here we can see Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who plays Clay, and Idris Elba, as Roque, during an action sequence, which actually makes the film look a little more like a detective buddy movie. The movie is filming in Hato Rey, Puerto Rico and follows an elite U.S. Special Forces team in the the Bolivian jungle for a search and destroy mission which lands them in conflict with a mysterious and powerful enemy named Max, played by the recently announced Jason Patric.Click the image above for more set pictures on ComingSoon.net The undercover team is made up of Clay and Roque, along with Jensen (Chris Evans), Pooch (Columbus Short) and Cougar, »

Jason Patric has joined the cast of "The Losers," the Warner Bros./Dark Castle adaptation of the DC-Vertigo comicbook. Patric plays Max, a CIA agent who has gone off the rails and sets up the title characters, a black ops team, to be killed.According to Variety, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Chris Evans, Zoe Saldana and Idris Elba also star. It is the first true villain role and the first comicbook movie for the actor who is usually drawn to dark, edgy, adult-themed fare. Courted by Joel Silver (who produces with Akiva Goldsman), Patric was lured by the chance to work with director Sylvain White. He also decided to plug in with the young geek demo driving the box office these days. In »

Jason Patric is an actor I'd like to see work a lot more. He's more choosy than most, and dismissive of a lot of mainstream fare. (Yeah, despite having Speed 2 on the resume.) So Variety's report that he's joined the cast of The Losers, directed by Sylvain White, is pretty significant. His presence as the film's bad guy just upped my interest in the project by a huge margin. Patric will play Max, "a CIA agent who has gone off the rails and sets up the title characters, a black ops team, to be killed." He'll be opposite Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Chris Evans, Zoe Saldana and Idris Elba. Quite a serious cast for what sounds at first like a pulpy, possibly even silly film. Peter Berg and James Vanderbilt wrote the script based on the Vertigo comic series by Andy Diggle and Jock. As the plot of the series ... »

We all want to meet The Losers, especially with the studio who can seemingly do no wrong (aka Warner Bros) financing the whole thing. It has already has a heck of a cast and though it has kicked off filming in Puerto Rico, they've found time to add one more: Jason Patric, who Variety reports is playing the mysterious and villainous Max. Max is the one who turns a bunch of black ops badasses into the Losers who are out for vengeance, and there's no doubt Patric can lend some gravitas to the role.
Unfortunately, Variety and Patric felt the need to sour the sweet news up. The press-shy Patric sat down with with Mike Fleming in order to explain just how an actor of his caliber ends up playing a mere comic book villain. These days, it's apparently neccessary to "slum it" to keep working. Fleming laments the neccessity, »

Jason Patric, who let us never forget starred in Speed 2: Cruise Control, seems to be holding his nose as he takes a role in The Losers, the Warner Bros. adaptation of the DC comic book. Announcing that he'd be playing a rogue CIA agent in the film, Patric told Variety "Let's face it, the geeks have inherited the world, and if you want to be a player in this system, you have to be willing to do some of this." Oh, so you're "willing" to do some of this, and by "some of this" you mean act in a movie based on a comic book, which has been the source material for about half of the most successful movies of the last decade. He's "willing" to take the role just like Heath Ledger was willing to take on the Joker, or Hugh Jackman has been willing to throw his »

I am soooo addicted to the latest series of Entourage which is currently playing out on ITV2 in the UK, and on HBO in the States. The last season of the hit show, the one where it all seems to go wrong for Vinnie Chase, is hitting UK DVD shores next month, and we have the info!
Click on past the jump to get more info on the release, which shores on the 14th September.
Packed with the glitz and glamour of Tinstletown this DVD marks your VIP pass to the world of Vince Chase, a hot young actor in modern-day Hollywood and his entourage. Loosely based on the life of Mark Wahlberg and drawing on the experiences of industry insiders, the series hilariously illustrates both the heady excesses of today's celebrity lifestyle, as well as the difficulty of finding love and success in the fast track of showbiz.
