First Photo of Johnny Depp's Mad Hatter from 'Alice in Wonderland'

10 hours ago | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

Back in March we gave you a peek at character art and promotional images from Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland, including a first look at what promises to be the main attraction of the phantasmagorical 2010 flick: Johnny Depp as The Mad Hatter. But technically speaking, today's new image of Depp is the first official photo of his character - at least according to Walt Disney Pictures. Are they trying to stretch out their marketing materials with talk of "firsts" and such? Probably. But what's really important here is that we have not only another look at Alice in Wonderland, but another peek at what promises to be one of the wackiest character of Johnny Depp's already-eclectic career. (Could it be weirder than his Willy Wonka? Maybe not.)

The 3-D adventure based on Lewis Carroll's "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" and "Through the Looking-Glass" finds a now-19-year-old Alice (Mia Wasikowska) returning to Wonderland, »

'Alice in Wonderland': Johnny Depp first-look official photo

Johnny Depp is the maddest of them all.

Disney released the first official photo of Depp as "Alice in Wonderland's" The Mad Hatter, and he's just as scary as when we saw him in the previous one-sheet images.

Trust director Tim Burton to make the twisted classic tale even more deliciously disturbing with his take -- a grown-up Alice (Mia Wasikowska) returns to the fantastical world she first stumbled upon as a young girl and reunites with her friends such as the White Rabbit, Tweedledee and -dum, the Dormouse, Chesire Cat and the Mad Hatter.

Check him out:

Hmm, are those knights out of focus in the background? It's hard to tell. The action in Lewis Carroll's original novels corresponded to the moves in a chess game, so many of the pieces (e.g. the White Queen) appear in the story.

The 3-D "Alice," hits theaters on March 5, also stars Anne Hathaway, »

2010 Movie Preview: Part One - From 'The Adjustment Bureau' to 'Iron Man 2'

14 hours ago | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

I was trying to figure out a way to do a 2010 Preview that wouldn't simply be an overwhelming list of films that you would have to tirelessly slog through day-after-day so I sat down with a list of every single film set to be released in 2010 and trimmed it down to 50 total films. I think this list offers up a good mix of films from a couple of horror films, plenty of drama, some blockbusters and a selection of indies.

As a result some films had to be cut from the proceedings and hopefully some you may not have expected will be introduced. Today I give you the first 24 films of the preview and they are listed in alphabetical order with cast and director information, a look at the synopsis and a quick comment or two from yours truly. Tomorrow I will be here with another 26 (accidentally forgot to add »

We Knew It! Nicolas Cage is Everyone!

15 hours ago | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

I've seen him as Big Daddy in Matthew Vaughn's Kick-Ass. I know he's starring alongside Ron Perlman and Christopher Lee in Season of the Witch. I'm aware that he'll be re-teaming with producer Jerry Bruckheimer for Disney's The Sorceror's Apprentice.

What I didn't know is that Nicolas Cage can be everyone. Everyone. The Penguin, Perez Hilton, Zac Efron, Hulk Hogan, Gandalf, Pamela Anderson -- the list goes on and on, and over at NicCageAsEveryone you can see it for yourself.

Years ago, I read a Movieline interview with Quentin Tarantino where the director named Cage as the best actor of Tarantino's generation. This was right around the time of Cage's Oscar-winning role in Leaving Las Vegas, long before Cage showed us a different kind of range by hamming it up in Ghost Rider or sleepwalking through Bangkok Dangerous.

Could Tarantino have been right about Nicolas Cage or is this »

Christopher Lee Turns Gear Into Metal Singer

6 January 2010 1:25 AM, PST | Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news »

Movie veteran Christopher Lee is reinventing himself as a metal singer - at the age of 87. "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring" star has provided the vocals for a symphonic metal concept album which recounts the life of the first Roman Emperor King Charlemagne, who reigned in the eighth and ninth centuries.

Lee chose the project because he is a direct descendant of Charlemagne - and he's thrilled to have the chance to take his career in a different direction. The actor says, "It's fascinating for me that, at this stage in my life, people are beginning to look upon me as a metal singer. When this comes out as a complete album, it's going to be sensational."

"There's a lot of characters in this particular album... There's Charlemagne himself, of course, which I sing, and then there's young Charlemagne, Charlemagne's father, Charlemagne's brother... (even) the Pope. »

Christopher Lee Brings the Metal!

4 January 2010 1:32 PM, PST | FEARnet | See recent FEARnet news »

No, this isn't a joke (believe me, I checked), which means 2010 is already off to an awesome musical start. Revered screen icon Sir Christopher Lee – one of the greatest names in classic horror, fantasy and science fiction cinema (and in my opinion, the classiest Dracula ever) – is stepping up to the microphone as star player in a symphonic metal opera based on the life of European ruler Charlemagne. Hit the jump for all the details... including a descriptive clip from the master himself! The story of Charlemagne – the first ruler to unite most of Western Europe in the Middle Ages – is literally in Lee's blood: he can trace his family lineage directly back to the historic ruler, and his »

Analysis: Finally scoring a limited release in the Us in February, Jacques Audiard's violent and hard-edged prison drama won the Grand Prix at Cannes, scored Best Film at the London Film Festival, and is already the hotly tipped favourite to take the Oscar for Best Foreign Film late next month.
