Kevin Heffernan is offered some fish in Slammin' Salmon
Photo: Anchor Bay Entertainment If you are familiar with the Broken Lizard boys you don't need to read this review. If you love their work just stop now and see this film. If you don't like their work you can move on as well and forget this film ever existed. I, however, am a middle of the road Broken Lizard fan, but I am definitely against the grain. I don't like Super Troopers whatsoever, Club Dread was an improvement, but that's not saying a lot, but I did enjoy Beerfest. So, it was with little to no expectation that I watched their latest effort, Slammin' Salmon, and while this is no comedic gem I have to admit I had a few laughs and was never entirely turned off.
We aren't talking high concept here and in fact we are looking at »

The original reality show broke ground with Pedro.
On November 11, 1994, the day after the final episode of The Real World: San Francisco aired, Pedro Zamora succumbed to complications from AIDS. Most of the world had only known him since June of that year, but the 22-year-old had made the most of the short time he’d spent on earth.
Born in Cuba, raised in Miami, Pedro was diagnosed as HIV+ while still in high school, and had dedicated his life to being an educator on the disease. Prior to appearing on the groundbreaking MTV reality show, he had already spoken about the disease with Oprah Winfrey, Phil Donahue, and before a session of Congress.
But it was by appearing on The Real World: San Francisco that he managed to have a global impact. For many young people, Pedro was the first real, out gay man they ever saw »

Thursday’s SAG election was a victory for the moderate coalition. Yet, strangely enough, the leaders of the losing hardline faction will all find seats on the national board, and will continue to be a shadow government within the union’s Hollywood board—a board on which none of the key moderate leaders will be voting members.
Yes, the moderates (Unite for Strength (Ufs) / Usan / Rbd / independents) won the national offices – President and Secretary-Treasurer – and picked up additional national board seats and many on the Hollywood board as well. But with SAG, the story is never simple.
In fact, paradoxically, 1st VP and failed Membership First presidential candidate Anne-Marie Johnson will probably continue as 1st VP, ex-president Alan Rosenberg will almost certainly be back on the national board in a matter of days despite winning only an alternate seat, Mf leader David Joliffe will probably be on the Hollywood board »

Bio Channel is set to premiere Celebrity Ghost Stories, a series where stars recount real-life encounters with the paranormal, on Oct. 3. The list of storytellers is already pretty compelling: David Carradine gives one of his last interviews to share how he married a widow and became frequently visited by the jealous spirit of his wife's ex. ("In a chilling twist of irony, the haunting takes place in his bedroom closet," the press release teases.) Then you've got John Waters, Rue McClanahan, Joan Rivers, Carrie Fisher, Greg Grunberg, Debi Mazar, Barry Williams, Illeana Douglas, Lili Taylor, Tom Arnold, Morgan Fairchild, Scott Baio, Gina Gershon, C. Thomas Howell, Eric Roberts, Justine Bateman, Carnie Wilson, Dee Snider, Teri Polo, Lisa Rinna, Elisabeth Rohm, Nia Long, Traci Lords, Sammy Hagar, Ernie Hudson, Jay Thomas, Ali Landry, John Salley, James Kyson Lee, Kelly Carlson, Federico Castelluccio, and Anson Williams (Happy Days' Potsie, who's most »

The TV/theatrical ballots will go out May 19 (about ten days from now) and are due back by mail on June 9. SAG has set members-only informational meetings on the proposed contract. The La meeting is sure to have fireworks, since the leaders of the Membership First faction, based in La, oppose the proposed deal.
Supporting the deal are SAG staff and the SAG National Board, including SAG's moderate majority leadership, comprised of the La-based Unite for Strength faction, La independent board member Morgan Fairchild, and most or all of the NY and regional board members.
The deal can be ratified by a simple majority (i.e., 50% + 1) of those members voting. If ratified, the agreement would end an over 10-month stalemate.
The details of the meetings are in an email to members (see below).

The family of a Connecticut woman fighting for her life after a savage star chimpanzee attack is suing the ape's owner for $50 million (GBP35.7 million).
Sandra Herold stabbed the acting chimp, called Travis, and beat him with a shovel in a bid to stop him ripping a visiting pal's face off before cops were forced to shoot the crazed primate.
But Charlotte Nash lost her hands, nose, lips and eyelids in the February attack - and now her family members want compensation from her friend.
Nash, who has been left partially blind and could possibly be brain damaged, agreed to help Herold when Travis became unruly and refused to go back into his cage at her home.
The chimp appeared in a series of U.S. TV commercials, including one for clothing company Old Navy, opposite Morgan Fairchild. »

Oscar winner Anjelica Huston is hoping a recent headline-grabbing chimpanzee tragedy in Connecticut will make people think twice before taking on an ape as a pet.
The chimp, called Travis, was beaten and stabbed by his owner before being shot to death by police after he grievously wounded her friend during a rampage earlier this month.
And Huston, who narrated PETA's recent expose on great apes forced into the entertainment industry, is confident the tragedy will serve as a reminder that chimpanzees don't make great pets.
In a statement, released to PETA.org, the actress writes, "I sincerely hope that this tragedy will make people realize that great apes should never be kept as pets or exploited for films, television, or advertising.
"Their lives are miserable from the day that they are taken from their mothers... until they are cast off to roadside zoos or meet a violent end, as Travis did in this tragic case."
Ironically, Travis was an entertainment ape - he appeared in TV commercials, including one - for clothing chain Old Navy - with Morgan Fairchild.
Huston adds, "Although I was sick when I heard about this most recent incident, I wasn't surprised." »

A chimpanzee who went on the rampage in Stamford, Connecticut and grievously wounded his owner's friend once appeared alongside actress Morgan Fairchild in a TV ad for U.S. clothing firm Old Navy.
The ape's owner, Sandra Herold, stabbed the chimp, called Travis, and beat him with a shovel in a bid to stop him ripping a visiting pal's face off before cops were forced to shoot the primate dead.
But Fairchild insists Travis was nothing but a sweetheart when they worked together.
She says, "I have a great still photograph of us - he's sitting there with his arm round me."
And she's upset the ape is dead: "It is a sin that this animal had to be destroyed." »

The SAG board’s moderate majority fired National Executive Director Doug Allen today by using a document signed by board members and called a “written assent.” Much to my surprise, Allen chose not to fight and instead emailed the SAG staff acknowledging that he had been terminated and saying goodbye. A copy of the email is below.
Perhaps one reason Allen agreed so readily is that—as has not previously been reported—the assent provides that his contract will be paid out in full. The assent itself has not previously been released. However, I’ve received a copy. See below.
A natural question is how the process unfolded. I spoke to two sources close to the situation who laid out the following narrative:
At around 11:00 a.m. Monday morning, a group of board members went to SAG’s La headquarters. The group included Unite for Strength leader Ned Vaughn, »
