Photo: Fanpop Stephenie Meyer's Twilight series books (Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn) aren't her only best-sellers - as you well know. Free Flick of the Day: Frogs

20 October 2009 1:10 PM, PDT | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

Yesterday, we kicked off our first installment of Cinematical's Free Flick of the Day, where one of our writers will humbly suggest a good, bad, or truly ugly film you can watch for free over at AOL's /SlashControl. Since the content over there is constantly shifting, we'll try our very best to point you towards the good, the bad, and the ugliest films you can watch there for free.

Today's pick is an ugly little time-waster. Before Troll 2 rose to such "So bad it's good" acclaim, Frogs had the dubious honor of being called "The best bad movie I've ever seen in my life" by Fran Lebowitz, and was reportedly Andy Warhol's favorite horror movie. I first encountered it on a dollar DVD rack, and purchased it as a gift for a friend who adores bad movies. How can you resist a DVD cover like the one to »

BFI Lff Review: Up In The Air

18 October 2009 2:32 PM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Jason Reitman’s feature follow up to the Oscar Winning Juno is many things. Up In The Air is an indictment of the economic misfortunes and the erosive nature of corporate culture, it is a road movie populated by dysfunctional family members (who are not related), it is a love story in reverse peppered with distant epiphanies and existential pondering, it is not Juno, and it is funny. Very funny.

Ryan Bingham (a nuanced performance from man of the festival, George Clooney) is a corporate downsizer for hire. He spends most of his life in airports, flying to industrial states in America, visiting workplaces and firing the staff. When we meet him he is on the receiving end of abuse, disbelief, emotional fallout from blue collar workers being let go of (firing is not a word he or his company use). He is a man of routine and control and »

Tiff Review: Up in the Air

20 September 2009 12:55 AM, PDT | FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news »

Up in the Air Directed by: Jason Reitman Written by: Jason Reitman, Sheldon Turner (screenplay), Walter Kim (novel) Starring: George Clooney, Vera Farmiga, Jason Bateman, Anna Kendrick, Danny McBride Being the son of Ivan Reitman may have its advantages, but let's be honest here: Jason Reitman has more than proven himself to be a gifted director in his own right with his first two critically-acclaimed films, Thank You for Smoking and Juno. He's following in his father's comedic footsteps, but choosing edgier material and smarter scripts, and is now well on his way to becoming one of those directors that A-list actors will basically drop everything to work with. Still, there are some people out there who believe that the success of his movies have been more due to the writing and the acting than his direction, and while I don't necessarily agree, I am pretty sure that his third film, »

First Clip from Jason Reitman’s Up in the Air Starring George Clooney

9 September 2009 6:25 AM, PDT | FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news »

The third feature film from Jason Reitman (Thank You For Smoking, Juno) premiered last weekend at the Telluride Film Festival [1] to rave reviews and, believe it or not, even a little bit of Oscar buzz [2]. Based on the book by Walter Kim, the movie stars George Clooney as Ryan Bingham, a 35 year old divorced man who works as a consultant, flying around the country to fire people from other companies. His new goal in life: to get ten million frequent flyer miles before he loses his own job. Although a trailer is supposed to be out before the movie plays at the Toronto Film Festival next weekend, Paramount has released a short clip from the film online in order to keep the buzz rolling. My thoughts? Meh. It's pretty hard to gauge anything from this clip. I think I'll just wait until we see the damn thing on Sunday. The cast also includes Vera Farmiga, »

[DVD Review] The Waltons: Season 9

1 May 2009 5:21 AM, PDT | JustPressPlay.net | See recent JustPressPlay news »

If you’re like I was a week ago, you’re not at all familiar with the television show The Waltons. To give you some perspective on the show, George H.W. Bush once famously said, "we are going to keep on trying to strengthen the American family, to make American families a lot more like the Waltons and a lot less like the Simpsons," which should give you a pretty good idea of the show’s target audience. In the 1970s and early 1980s it ran for nine seasons, of which this is the last.

The show follows the trials and tribulations of a rural family living outside Charlottesville, Virginia during the Great Depression and World War II. They are led by patriarch John Walton, Sr, (Ralph Waite), who raises the children with a sage and steady hand (there was a mother, Olivia Walton, played by Michael Learned, but she »

Sam Elliott Rom-Coms With Hugh Grant

30 March 2009 1:39 AM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Sam Elliott and Mary Steenburgen are joining the cast of Did You Hear About The Morgans?, according to Production Weekly. The Sony project pairs up Sarah Jessica Parker and Hugh Grant in another one of those fish out of water romantic comedies. This particular one involves the mob. Parker and Grant play a New Yorker couple who witness a murder and must run off to small-town Wyoming as part of the witness protection. It sounds a little like Green Acres. No word on what parts Steenburgen and Elliott will play, but since it's set in Wyoming and it's Sam Elliott we're talking about here, gruff, folksy cowboy type is probably a safe bet. Sure he's typecast, but goddammit he's good at it. While we're talking Sam Elliott, can we talk about how it is that this guy never really blew up into the mega-star he deserves to be? I was »

Ghost Rider Sequel Moving Forward

28 January 2009 11:12 PM, PST | TheMovingPicture.net | See recent TheMovingPicture news »

There was discussion back in September about a sequel to 2007’s Ghost Rider, starring Nicolas Cage and Eva Mendes, and now it looks like one is finally moving forward. The folks at Bloody Disgusting are reporting that Cage will return and Columbia Pictures is currently looking for writers. Based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name, the ‘07 flick was directed by Mark Steven Johnson (Daredevil). Cage played Johnny Blaze who, in order to save his dying father sold his soul to the devil. Years later the Devil comes to collect and forces Blaze to become Ghost Rider, a bounty hunter of rogue demons. When Cage talked about the potential film in September he mentioned the character might head to Europe – “having him go on a motorcycle tour through Europe, and he’s connected with the church”. Who knows if that’s still the plan. Despite being panned by »
