[TV] Justice League: The Complete Series

6 November 2009 8:30 AM, PST | JustPressPlay.net | See recent JustPressPlay news »

Before I start gushing about just how great this cartoon and, by connection, this set are, let’s establish two things. First, for every good thing I have to say about the entire set I include a single footnote: this should be available in a Blu-ray release as well, the animation would be sharper and bolder, the audio would be stunning and the entire package would have had that much more relevance considering the current trends of digital media. Second, this is so much more than just a ‘cartoon’. As is said a few times in the extra features of the series, Justice League may be the greatest superhero animated series to have ever existed. So what does that imply about this complete series set? One of the best ever?

The Good, The Bad And The Wtf: Sands of Not My Freakin' Dime

4 November 2009 1:09 AM, PST | JustPressPlay.net | See recent JustPressPlay news »

It's the mid-week report of the good, bad and you-know-what-the-what here, as we compile the movie news from the past week and a half. Yes, you'll have more at the end of the week—but for now, let us all cringe together as we see stomach news of the 2012 motion sickness experience, an Mib without Will Smith, and the audacity of some people to shoot a barely visible topless scene and hype it up like it was Basic Instinct 3.

The Good

• For years, there have been several attempts to do a sequel to Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, none of them ever came close to moving ahead. Speaking to MTV last week, director Robert Zemeckis set the record straight: that this time he is personally involved and really excited to do the sequel, and that he has commissioned original scribes Jeffrey Price and Peter Seaman to write the screenplay. Let's hope »

First Review: A Nightmare on Elm Street the Remake

2 November 2009 2:07 AM, PST | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

The first review for Platinum Dunes' A Nightmare on Elm Street redux is now alive and kicking. Good? Bad? It's both a little and a lot of both, if that makes any sense. Then again, in Krueger land ... does anything really make sense?

The Samuel Bayer directed remake stars Jackie Earle Haley, Rooney Mara, Kyle Gallner, Katie Cassidy, Thomas Dekker, Kellan Lutz, Clancy Brown, and Connie Britton and focuses on a serial child molester murdered by angry parents, who returns with a burnt face and a razor glove to terrorize teens in their dreams.

Check out the first review over at AICN, and let us know what you think or have to add below. Let the speculation begin! Something tells us we're going to be in for a very long ride.

A Fistful of News

30 October 2009 5:10 PM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

We missed some stories this past week.  We’re sorry.  But we did not forget them.  We never forget.  We’re like elephants and people who hold grudges.  With that in mind, here are some stories that are a little late but they’re still great.  You can enjoy them all after the jump.

The fantastic 1997 sci-fi film “Gattaca” may become a television series in the vein of “CSI”.  I don’t know how that works since the police would probably be the genetically-engineered humans while the interesting, true-born humans would be the ones hunted down.

Chris Appelhan has posted some of the artwork he did for “Fantastic Mr. Fox”.  He’s also done work for “Coraline” and “Hotel for Dogs”. It’s all really impressive.  Click here to see more of his art.

Lobo To Be Played By Clancy Brown?

29 October 2009 11:44 AM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

We put an empty can with a string attached to our ears and heard Mania.com whisper that Clancy Brown, the man who played the formidable and creepy Brother Justin Crowe in HBO’s Carnivale, as well as the heartless Captain Hadley in The Shawshank Redemption, keeps coming up in conversations over at Warner Bros. about who should play Lobo.

Also under discussion, apparently, is just how much CGI should be used for the character.  Brown is also an accomplished voiceover artist, working as Mr. Sinister in Wolverine and the X-Men and Mr. Eugene H. Krabs in SpongeBob Squarepants. As of late you can spot him in the teaser trailer for A Nightmare on Elm Street.

Lobo is an intergalatic bounty-hunter known for getting his man, getting incredibly violent and imbibing a hefty amount of  libation when the mood strikes him.  The film adaptation of the character is being helmed »

Carnivale’s Brother Justin to Play Guy Ritchie’s Lobo?

29 October 2009 11:07 AM, PDT | FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news »

It still hasn't quite sunk in for me that Guy Ritchie's next project will be a Lobo movie, but this week we have our first casting rumour for the lead role, which if nothing else, serves as a reminder that this is actually happening (eventually). The actor who is reportedly being considered for Lobo is a bit of a surprise though, as it's someone that not many people will recognize by name alone. According to Comics2Film at Mania.com [1], the person that keeps coming up in discussions is character and voice actor Clancy Brown. Who is Clancy Brown? Well, some will know him as The Krugan in Highlander or Kelvin on Lost, but for me his most memorable role to date has been as the menacing Brother Justin on HBO's Carnivale. He also does a ton of voice acting, including Lex Luthor in Justice League. Although Brown may »

Brad Pitt & Josh Brolin Behind the Steering Wheel in Go Like Hell?

28 October 2009 11:40 AM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

Many times an actor will express interest in a specific project, but the union of the two never really comes to fruition. A situation just like that surfaced recently in the choice to go with Clancy Brown for Guy Ritchie's Lobo as opposed to an interested Jeffrey Dean Morgan. A story in the same vein just might be in the works as The Playlist picked up on some info revealed in comedian Adam Corrolla's podcast when producer Lucas Foster (Law Abiding Citizen, Mr & Mrs. Smith) mentioned on the show that Brad Pitt and Josh Brolin have expressed interest in his project Go Like Hell, a fast-paced adrenaline-fueled racing flick for Fox. The film is based on A.J. Baime's non-fiction book Go Like Hell: Ford, Ferrari, and Their Battle for Speed and Glory at Le Mans, which tells the remarkable story of how Henry Ford II, with the help »

Actor Clancy Brown Might Be Stepping Up to Take on Lobo?

28 October 2009 10:43 AM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

Looking at the more recent successful films, it's becoming clear that star power is no longer a guaranteed box office draw for audiences. Unknown actors and actresses are garnering as much attention as their A-List counterparts. It looks like the creative team behind the upcoming Guy Ritchie adaptation of DC Comics' Lobo is paying attention to this trend as IGN says a source close to production told them that actor Clancy Brown might be the man to step into Lobo's shoes. Apparently with the amount of special effects needed to create the character, there isn't too much concern in bringing in a high profile name to lead this project. "Ultimately regardless of whether you do it all CG or its a guy in a suit, with CG, you'll still end up doing a lot of CG animation. So do you need a celebrity? Do you need a name or »

SpongeBob SquarePants celebrates ten years of Krabby Patty burgers

23 October 2009 2:30 PM, PDT | AOL - TVSquad | See recent AOL - TVSquad news »

The popularity of SpongeBob SquarePants amongst kids (and many adults) is almost beyond explanation.

Don't get me wrong. It's a fun show that skillfully blends little kid appeal with occasional bursts of adult-worthy humor. It also boasts an impressive voice cast, including Tom Kenny and Clancy Brown. But there are kids who can't live without this little tie-clad yellow blob.

To celebrate the little champ's tenth birthday, Nickelodeon has announced SpongeBob's 10th Anniversary Celebration (Nov. 6 at 8 p.m.) with a list of A-list celebrities, including Rosario Dawson, Craig Ferguson, Will Ferrell, Tina Fey, Ricky Gervais, LeBron James, Pink, Triumph the Insult Comic Dog and Robin Williams.

That impressive collection will appear in an hour-long special featuring SpongeBob flashbacks.

The special is hosted by Patchy the Pirate, "President of the SpongeBob Fan Club (Encino Chapter)." He sets off for Burbank -- home of Nickelodeon. (It's on Olive, near Victory -- in case you were wondering. »

Geek gossip: FlashForward, Wolverine, The Crow, Captain America, Lobo

22 October 2009 5:49 AM, PDT | The Geek Files | See recent The Geek Files news »

Marc Guggenheim, co-showrunner/executive producer of new sci-fi series FlashForward, has departed, leaving co-creator David Goyer to fly solo, says The Hollywood Reporter.

No reason was given for his exit but many sites claim ratings are already falling and the network was unhappy with the quality of the storytelling. I'm a little mystified with this as I think all four episodes so far have been excellent.

20th Century Fox has announced that X-Men Origins: Wolverine holds the record as the best-selling new release Blu-ray of the year and is one of the top 10 best-selling Blu-ray titles ever. Watch out for my review of the release (I bought it myself as the promised preview copy never arrived from the PR people).

A reboot of The Crow, to be written and directed by Stephen Norrington, is picking up steam, says Mania.com, with news that Norrington's script has been "very well-received" by Relativity Media. »

Blu-Ray Review: ‘Superman Batman: Public Enemies’ Features Superhero Dream Duo

15 October 2009 11:13 AM, PDT | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – Batman and Superman have more in common than you might think and it’s not just that they both wear capes and try to stop evil from triumphing over good. The Dark Knight and The Man of Steel are both forced to hide their true selves and deal with significant personal demons. Superman has the power to destroy the world, something he has to rein in every day, and Batman struggles with his moral code, one that keeps him from getting the true revenge he needs for the death of his parents.

Blu-Ray Rating: 3.5/5.0

The comic book writers of Batman and Superman recognized that these two popular heroes could make an interesting duo years ago and started teaming them up in printed form, including a popular Jeph Loeb/Ed McGuinness comic series/graphic novel that inspired the latest DC Universe Animated Original Movie “Superman Batman: Public Enemies”. Review: 'Superman/Batman: Public Enemies'

4 October 2009 10:19 AM, PDT | Comicmix.com | See recent Comicmix news »

For the last 25-30 years, writers and artists have been having a wonderful time contrasting the differences between Superman and Batman. Prior to that, they were both happy-go-lucky super-heroes, brothers-in-arms with nary a problem twixt them. The team of Jeph Loeb and Ed McGuinness really explored the dichotomy between the icons in Superman/Batman, the modern day version of World’s Finest Comics. Their opening story arc, “Public Enemies”, was a major turning point in the Dcu, bringing down the curtain on one set of stories and kick starting threads that played out across the line for several years.

Any storyline that involved, could not possibly be well-adapted to an animated feature considering the lack of context most viewers would need to have. As a result, Superman/Batman: Public Enemies the direct-to-dvd release from Warner Premier, now on sale, had to make some modifications. Unfortunately, they were not all for the better. »

DVD Review: ‘Superman/Batman: Public Enemies’

29 September 2009 3:30 PM, PDT | The Flickcast | See recent The Flickcast news »

The animation departments of DC and Warner brothers has been on quite a hot streak since last year’s release of Justice League: New Frontier. Their releases of both Wonder Woman and Green Lantern films over the last year were both critically well reviewed and did well in the stores. Since New Frontier, this project is the first story that was taken almost directly from a published storyline, originally written by Jeph Loeb.

The great part about Jeph Loeb’s Public Enemies is he teamed up with artist Ed McGuinness, who is best known for his animated art style. This made the announcement of the direct-to-dvd feature all the more exciting. Not only was the source material well done, but casting director Andrea Romano was also able to bring back the dream team of DC voice actors to return to characters they helped make immortal.
