The win came over a crowed field of competitors from all over the world, many of them with much larger budgets. The other big winner at the Pump Room of the Ambassador East awards ceremony Saturday evening was by veteran master Marco Bellocchio of Italy, who won the Silver Hugo as best director for "Vincere," the story of Mussolini's younger brother. Bisset Back With Martial Artist

27 August 2009 3:01 PM, PDT | WENN | See recent WENN news »

British actress Jacqueline Bisset has reignited her romance with Turkish martial arts expert Emin Boztepe, four years after they split.

The door appeared to be closed on the couple's on-off relationship when they went their separate ways in 2005, amid rumours their 18 year age gap was a factor.

But onlookers are convinced the fling is back on after watching Bullitt actress Bisset, 64, and 48-year-old Boztepe enjoy an intimate lunch at Los Angeles' Villa Blanca on 15 August.

A source tells Star magazine, "Jacqueline was very flirty. She called him darling. They talked very closely and only had eyes for each other." »

Which was the best year for movies: 1977, 1994, or 1999?

5 August 2009 5:00 AM, PDT | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

Last week, we posted a story about how 1984 was the best movie year ever when it comes to films you actually want to watch on a rainy day playing hooky from work. Movies like Ghostbusters, Bachelor Party, This is Spinal Tap, Footloose, and The Terminator. Movies that were the exact opposite of the highfalutin' offerings from 1939 -- the year critics always cite as the greatest Hollywood vintage of all time. Don't get us wrong, there were some decent high-brow movies from 25 years ago, too, like Amadeus and The Killing Fields. But mostly we were talking about movies that were, you know, fun. And while some of you agreed with us about 1984's greatness, others were outraged. Apoplectic. Even concerned for our sanity. Some even made cases for other "greatest years". And we listened. That's what we do. So now, we've tallied up your nominees and narrowed it down to your »

Jacqueline Bisset, Actress with Legendary Film Pedigree, Stars in Death in Love Filmed, Set & Opening in NYC

23 July 2009 7:28 AM, PDT | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

Director/writer Boaz Yakin's new film, Death in Love, stars actress, Jacqueline Bisset -- looking much younger than 64 -- Josh Lucas, 38, and Lukas Haas, 32, who play her extremely troubled sons. Much of the film is set in New York City in the 1990s. Yakin, a native New Yorker, shot the film in 25 days and financed it himself. Jacqueline Bisset playing far against type, yet still looking luminous, as the monstrous matriarch in Death in Love. There have been musings about the film ever since it debuted at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2008. Duane Byrge, writing for The Hollywood Reporter, called Bisset's performance "truly ferocious," while Liz Smith compared it to Julie Christie's tour de force in Away from Her. The film was featured at the Boston Film Festival in September 2008 with Bisset winning the »

Boaz Yakin: 'At What Point Am I Just Being Self-Destructive with My Honesty?'

17 July 2009 1:00 PM, PDT | Movieline | See recent Movieline news »

Can the studio system be toxic? It was for director Boaz Yakin, who made Remember the Titans and the Brittany Murphy/Dakota Fanning comedy Uptown Girls, yet found himself so compromised that he spiraled into a deep depression. When Yakin first burst upon the scene with 1994's Fresh, he was heralded as an original new voice, and it's that voice Yakin tried to tap into again for his new indie, Death in Love (starring Josh Lucas, Jacqueline Bisset, and Adam Brody). It's a tough work, grappling with explicit sexuality and religious guilt, and those were just a few of the things Yakin wanted to discuss in a wide-ranging, confessional interview with Movieline. »

The eldest son (Josh Lucas) battles his sense of disconnection from life while working at a scam modeling agency, where he befriends a charming young co-worker (Adam Brody) who begins to restore in him a sense of excitement and purpose. The neurotic younger son (Lukas Haas) is locked in a compulsive, co-dependent relationship with his mother. Death In Love

16 July 2009 9:45 PM, PDT | NYPost.com | See recent New York Post news »

Holocaust porn in the tradition of "The Reader," Boaz Yakin's ultra-pretentious and loathsome "Death in Love" opens by cutting between sex and stomach-churning footage of concentration camp experiments.

A young Jewish teenager who grows to be Jacqueline Bisset saves her own life by giving herself to a doctor conducting these atrocities. Her two grown sons pay for this decades later.

The older one, played by Josh Lucas, runs a dubious modeling agency in Manhattan and has a sadomasochistic relationship with his business partner (Vanessa Kai). His »

Movie Review: Death in Love

15 July 2009 9:12 AM, PDT | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

Boaz Yakin's Death in Love is a fascinating mess -- sprawling, passionate, conflicted, confused, contrary. I wouldn't expect anything less from Yakin, director of films as varied as Fresh, A Price Above Rubies and Remember the Titans. Even at its most preposterous or perfunctory, this film is never less than interesting. Yakin's subject is a family of unhappy, dissatisfied, controlling people in New York. The Holocaust serves as an overlay, a starting point -- but these people are screwed up all on their own. The matriarch is played by Jacqueline Bisset, an Eastern European emigre, who has a husband and two grown sons. In flashbacks, we see that, as a teenager, she was a prisoner in a concentration camp, where she was a candidate for bizarre medical experiments. But she escaped them by seducing the head doctor and becoming his mistress for »

DVD Playhouse—July 2009

By

Allen Gardner

Do The Right Thing: 20th Anniversary Edition (Universal) Spike Lee’s groundbreaking fable about race relations in an ethnically mixed Brooklyn neighborhood during a sweltering New York summer remains as potent, timely and prescient as it was in 1989. Lee is among the cast, which also includes John Turturro, Danny Aiello, Samuel L. Jackson, Ossie Davis, Ruby Dee, and Rosie Perez (to name a few), that provide the tableaux-like framework for this stunning work. Criminally ignored by Oscar (it wasn't even nominated for Best Picture, but did garner nods for Supporting Actor Danny Aiello and Lee’s screenplay), it endures as a timeless classic. Also available on Blu-ray disc. Bonuses: Commentary by Lee, Ernest Dickerson, Wynn Thomas, Joie Lee; Documentary; Deleted and extended scenes; Featurettes. Widescreen. Dolby and DTS 5.1 surround.

Summer, Somers and Potter

Just a couple of blockbusters this week, one of which we've seen most of already. For everybody else, there is a strong selection of international art house pics to go with a couple of homegrown indies.

"(500) Days of Summer"

Longtime music video director Marc Webb turned down a lot of horror remakes and teen comedies to make his feature debut with this unconventional recitation of a relationship that doesn't work out. Joseph Gordon-Levitt co-stars as Tom, a poker-faced field mouse rejected by the love of his (comically young) life, the idiosyncratic Summer (Zooey Deschanel), and neurotically dissects the minutia of their courtship as he struggles to figure out what went wrong.

Opens in limited release.

Q&A - Josh Lucas on What's So Disturbing About Death in Love

9 July 2009 9:00 AM, PDT | amctv.com - Exclusive Interviews | See recent amctv.com - Exclusive Interviews news »

In Death in Love, one of the most challenging movies this summer, Jacqueline Bisset is a Holocaust survivor, but only by the loosest definition of the word "survive." Now a grown woman with a family of her own, she's passed her trauma on to the next generation. The eldest, Josh Lucas, has become a womanizing con artist. The youngest, Lukas Haas, is an obsessive, phobic recluse. And that's looking on »
