Mercy's James Tupper Previews Full-On "Violence"

10 November 2009 7:00 PM, PST | TVGuide.com - Features | See recent TVGuide - Features news »

Last week's Mercy ended with Mike figuring out his wife Veronica had an affair in Iraq. So, how is Mike going to fare this week now that he's digested the news of her infidelity?

NBC picks up Community, Mercy and Parks and Recreation

"It comes to violence [between Mike and Sands]," James Tupper, who plays Dr. Sands on the medical drama, tells TVGuide.com. "Very full-on, direct, action-movie violence. I felt like an action hero for the day of shooting!"

Watch free, full episodes of Mercy

Though it's hard to say why Sands has had such a hard time letting Veronica go despite her ambivalence, Tupper feels a lot of it has to do with them sharing something in Iraq. "I think being close to her is necessary for his recovery from the experience," says Tupper.

While the freshman series has aired only its first six episodes, last week alone, Elisabeth Moss, Jerry Stiller »

Casting Tidbits: Patrick Dempsey, Sigourney Weaver & More

4 November 2009 9:47 AM, PST | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

Holy Casting Tidbits! First up, Variety reports Helen Mirren is joining Morgan Freeman and Bruce Willis in Red, the espionage thriller based on the WildStorm/DC comic book of the same name. As we've reported previously, Robert Schwentke will be directing the Erich Hoeber and Jon Hoeber penned screenplay which follows a former black-ops CIA agent who lives a quiet life in retirement until the day a high-tech assassin shows up intent on killing him. Sounds like just another Wednesday in my life. No word on exactly what role Mirren will be taking on, but I can pretty much guarantee she'll be playing a woman. Keep reading! Next up, the new Ed Helms driven comedy Cedar Rapids (which recently gained a female lead with Anne Heche) is adding three more cast members as Variety reports sci-fi queen Sigourney Weaver, young up-and-comer Alia Shawkat (Whip It), and curly-haired funnyman John C. Reilly »

Cast navigating to Cedar Rapids

4 November 2009 7:54 AM, PST | Corona's Coming Attractions | See recent Corona's Coming Attractions news »

Casting is closing up for Cedar Rapids, a comedy now being directed by Miguel Arteta (Youth in Revolt). Joining the previously cast Ed Helms (The Hangover) and Anne Heche (Hung) are Sigourney Weaver (Avatar), John C. Reilly (Cirque du Freak) and Alia Shawkat (Whip It).

Helms, who also starred on NBC's The Office (and which for director Arteta shot an episode or two for), co-developed the premise of the movie with screenwriter Phil Johnston. The actor plays a depressive insurance agent who heads off to a convention in hopes of stopping layoffs at his company. Weaver plays Helms' seventh grade teacher; the lady that played Ripley is finally getting teacher roles. Apple on the desk for her and all that.

Sideways director Alexander Payne is producing which explains the connection to Anne Heche; she's a supporting cast member in HBO's Hung series, of which Payne is a producer on. He also shot the pilot episode. »

Ellen Ripley And Maeby Funke Headed To Cedar Rapids

4 November 2009 7:45 AM, PST | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

It has been less than a week since Anne Heche was announced as Ed Helms' co-star in the up-coming Cedar Rapids, but considering that the film has already started shooting, it comes as no surprise that three actors have been rapidly added to the cast, if not only to give the two leads some company on screen. According to Variety, Sigourney Weaver, John C. Reilly and Alia Shawkat (best known as Maeby Fünke from Arrested Development) have signed on to the Miguel Arteta-directed comedy about a Midwestern insurance agent who travels to a convention to try and save the jobs of his co-workers. While Shawkat's roles is still unknown, Weaver will be playing Helms' seventh-grade teacher, but it is not yet known how her character fits into the story. Reilly is playing a fellow convention-goer treating the event as his own personal vacation. The Reilly casting isn't really »

Sigourney Weaver and John C. Reilly Face the Rapids

4 November 2009 6:09 AM, PST | Atomic Popcorn | See recent Atomic Popcorn news »

Want to know why Sigourney Weaver has the comedic ability to do a great job in movies like Ghostbusters or Galaxy Quest? Or why John C. Reilly cracked you up so darn well in Step Brothers?

Take a look at Ang Lee’s The Ice Storm or the highly underappreciated Criminal. These guys have the acting chops to pull off drama effortlessly, and like the best comedic actors, have an understanding of every bit of the craft.

This is why I’m so excited for Miguel Arteta’s (Youth in Revolt) new film Cedar Rapids, which has added Weaver and Reilly to the cast alongside Alia Shawkat, The Office’s Ed Helms, and Anne Heche.

Rapids, developed by Helms and Phil Johnston (Flightless Birds), the film will “center on a wholesome and naive small-town Wisconsin man (Helms) who, when his role model dies, must represent his company at a regional insurance conference in Cedar Rapids, »

Sigourney Weaver Joins Cedar Rapids

3 November 2009 11:00 PM, PST | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

We learned last week that Anne Heche would be joining Ed Helms and John C Reilly in Miguel Arteta's comedy Cedar Rapids, but the film has now picked up Sigourney Weaver for the ride. The words "momentum" and "gathering" spring to mind.A starring role for the previously-always-supporting Helms, following The Hangover, it's about a smalltime insurance salesman attending a big industry conference in the titular Iowan town. Reilly is a fellow salesman, using the convention as a holiday to blow off some steam away from the folks. Heche is the female lead who befriends Helms when everything goes horribly wrong. Whip It's Alia Shawkat is on board in an as-yet-unspecified role. And Weaver, according to Variety, will play Helms' former seventh-grade school teacher.Sounds like a cameo then: maybe a stop along the road trip. But along with Avatar, You Again and Paul, it's great to see »

Tracking Shot November 2009: Beginners, Black Swan, Let Me In

2 November 2009 | ioncinema | See recent ioncinema news »

- At the beginning of every month, Ioncinema.com's "Tracking Shot" features a handful of projects that we feel are worth signaling out and that are moments away from lensing. As we get closer to holiday dates productions tend to drop, so this November we are keeping tabs on only a handful of projects. Mike Mills is finally getting to work on his sophomore feature which would see Ewan McGregor play a young man rocked by two announcements from his elderly father (Christopher Plummer)…one, that he has terminal cancer, and two, that he’s coming out of the closet. One more name will join the cast - perhaps the age of Brendan Fraser when he was in Gods and Monsters. Filming is set for L.A. Not much production info has been divulged on Darren Aronofsky's next film. Word was that production would begin this month and that »
