Don't judge this weekend's two-part Liftetime movie Everything She Ever Wanted (premiering Saturday) by its cover. As basic-cable pulp goes, the adaptation of Ann Rule's true-crime bestseller is actually some wicked grade-a melodrama with a killer lead performance by Gina Gershon. Literally -- the actress plays the infamous Pat Allanson, a Southern social striver best known for marrying a younger man in pursuit of his family's fortune at whatever cost. A few gun deaths, poisonings and imprisonments later, Pat turns her predatory eye on her own sister (Rachel Blanchard), who may know too much -- or does she? Gershon settles brilliantly into those plot and character ambiguities beneath Allanson's cutthroat, larger-than-life persona.
Movieline caught up with Gershon on her way to a matinee of Bye Bye Birdie (in which she's also currently starring on Broadway) for a chat about true stories, bad girls and what makes a camp classic. »

When "Twilight" cast members began tweeting about subjects involving missing clothing, I definitely did not expect to log on to Twitter today and find out that Christian Serratos decided to outdo all of them, but but her new garment-less PETA ad definitely succeeded.
Dane Cook and Ice-t, meanwhile, were less focused on saving fur and more intent on playing "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" this weekend, according to their posts, and at least one of them found himself in possession of some nightvision goggles. Check all of that out after the jump along with Danny Masterson's criticism for Andre Agassi, "Toy Story 3" director Lee Unkrich's favorite childhood toy and much more. I'm @brianwarmoth and this is the Twitter-Wood report for November 9, 2009.

Maybe you never quite got around to assembling the perfect Peggy Olson costume, and you'd rather stay at home than be seen in last year's Holly Golightly again. Or maybe you'd prefer giving candy to the kiddies to braving the masses of be-costumed drunks. In any case, you need something spooky to watch tonight after dark, and God knows that if you didn't get on the costume thing, you didn't stock up on holiday-appropriate Netflix picks either. Good news: TV is totally on it! AMC concludes its week-long "FearFest" movie marathon with a remastered version of Night of the Living Dead at 8 p. »

Actress Gina Gershon is testing out her singing skills by releasing an album for children.
The Showgirls star has previously shown off her vocal talent in Broadway musical Cabaret and is currently performing in a New York revival of Bye Bye Birdie, but she's looking to appeal to a much younger audience with the light-hearted The Good, The Bad, and The Hungry.
She says, "I have a children's album coming out in a couple months. As soon as we get over this (Bye Bye Birdie), I'm gonna focus on that. The Good, The Bad, and The Hungry. It's for three year olds. It's very funny." »

The Broadway revival of musical Bye Bye Birdie has been panned by New York's theatre critics - who have dubbed the John Stamos and Gina Gershon-starring show "boneheaded".
The musical was a huge hit in New York in the 1960s, starring Dick Van Dyke in the lead role - but the new adaptation could be shortlived after a savage reception to Thursday's opening night.
Stamos and Gershon were singled out for particular criticism from the New York Daily News, whose reviewer called them "surprisingly robotic".
The New York Post's Elisabeth Vincentelli added the pair "both look half-paralyzed by stress. Stamos' face is frozen in a strained mask...and Gershon... is at sea as the feisty Rose Alvarez."
New York Times reviewer Ben Brantley, meanwhile, predicted the show will turn audiences off, adding, "Theatergoers may feel an empathetic urge to rush home and bury their heads in their pillows."
Bye Bye Birdie is scheduled to run at the Henry Millers Theatre through to January. »

Fun times. Earlier this week, the Broadway production of "Bye Bye Birdie" staged its final preview performance. At some point during the show, an electrical malfunction occurred, preventing the sets from changing between scenes. So star John Stamos, a regular contributor to our Twitter-Wood feed, came out onto the stage to stall for time, appealing to his celeb pals in the viewing audience, EW reports.
One of them, legendary comedian and "Toy Story" star (he's Mr. Potato Head) Don Rickles, called for Stamos to get a haircut. The former "Full House" star was then joined on stage by his old pal, filthy comedian Bob Saget, who noted that he was relieved Stamos' forehead was miked, not his crotch. The show resumed after 20 minutes, but not before "Birdie" stars Gina Gershon and Bill Irwin joined the duo for additional onstage antics.
Hit the jump for an awesome picture of Don Rickles being awesome. »

John Stamos, Bob Saget and legendary comedian Don Rickles came to the rescue on Wednesday when the E.R. actor's Broadway production of Bye Bye Birdie was brought to a halt by technical difficulties.
Stamos was performing in the last preview of the musical in New York, before its big opening on Thursday - but the curtain had to come down midway through the show when a piece of scenery fell onto the tracks of the rotating stage, grinding it to a stop.
But instead of leaving the crowd at Henry Miller's Theatre to sit in silence, Stamos brought his former Full House co-star Saget and Rickles up from the audience to perform a last-minute stand up comedy routine as engineers worked furiously to fix the stage.
The trio entertained fans by cracking jokes, while they were also joined on stage by Stamos' theatre co-stars Gina Gershon and Bill Irwin.
The mechanical problem was corrected about 20 minutes later and the stars resumed the show.
Saget and Rickles gave Stamos and the cast of Bye Bye Birdie a standing ovation as they took their bows at the finale as other theatregoers cheered. »

Oh, the joys of live theater. The final preview performance of the Broadway revival of Bye Bye Birdie was halted for about 20 minutes Wednesday night when the electronically controlled set failed to clear during a scene change. The curtain fell on the big-budget musical, which is slated to open Thursday night, and star John Stamos appeared in front of a lights-up auditorium to stall for time as technicians worked backstage. Stamos called out to fellow celebs in the audience, including comedian Don Rickles, who shouted out from his seat to rib the former Full House star to get a haircut. »

So what if I'm a few days late catching it. Be patient with me. My week has been a blur of horror... and not of the movie kind. Just pretend you haven't heard this crazy ass news yet and let me scoop my jaw up (before the pole dancing commences)
Showgirls 2?
What ?!? What!?
I'm speechless. Even if Gina Gershon, Paul Verhoeven, Elizabeth Berkeley and Joe Eszterhas aren't involved it's still so... What? Showgirls may be a masterpiece (see previous posts) but it's not the kind of masterpiece that can't use a random 15 years-later bastard sequel from entirely different people.
Except... Penny!
How great is it that Rena Riffel misspells "forward" while preparing to reprise the role of her life. I am filled with joy. Seriously. I'm about to burst from it.
I hope it's the worst movie of all time. And therefore the best.

Actress Gina Gershon is convinced she can't get a date with a man her age - because 40-something guys are too intimidated to chat her up.
Gershon, 47, has written off men of her generation, insisting they weren't raised to appreciate strong, career-minded women.
She tells the New York Post, "I'm available. Single... But eligible guys are hard to find. I know amazing professional women who can't get guys. Only young ones come on to me. In their 20s, they're emotionally available and more polite. Those my own age don't want strong women. The ones in their 40s were raised wrong."
And until the Showgirls star finds a suitable mate, Gershon is relying on her male cat to screen young suitors.
She explains, "My only male right now is Cleo, my cat. We're together 11 years... Listen, I'm so approachable, so not intimidating, but if I have a man over and Cleo doesn't like him - he's out!" »

Apparently there’s a sequel to Showgirls in the works and the man behind the next round of gyrating breastisis is writer/director Marc Vorlander.
Entitled Showgirls: Story of Hope <snicker>, the story will revolve around model/actress Rena Riffel (Trasharella, small role in Showgirls, I think she’s the one doing the “lesbian dance” with Berkley) whose brother dies from a bad dose of cocaine. The stripper goes to Frankfurt to exact revenge on those dealers responsible. <snicker>
The film currently has a $25 million budget with two unnamed big shot Hollywood producers already on board.
The original Showgirls from hornball Paul Verhoeven was released in 1995 and make a lackluster $20 million. (It cost them $45 million to make it.) The film is easily the most popular Nc-17 release ever, ever. Partly because people (not me, I’m classy) wanted to see Jesse Spano (Elizabeth Berkley) work the pole. It also starred Gina Gershon. »

In the movie, the brother of a stripper, who died from a dose of contaminated cocaine, comes to Frankfurt to find the people responsible and to get revenge. That might not sound like anything special, but the site is saying that the project is so good that it has attracted two big Hollywood producers and a $25 million budget. Gina Gershon has responded to a lawsuit from her former talent agents, branding allegations she failed to pay them commission "completely without merit".
Bosses at Fortitude talent agency have accused Gershon of refusing to pay them the 10 per cent commission they're due for helping her book a job in the Broadway play Boeing Boeing.
The agents, who are suing for compensation, claim the actress made "several hundred thousand dollars" from the 2008 New York stage show but "chooses to forget about those people who help her in her career".
But the Showgirls star has refuted the claims.
A statement released to RadarOnline.com reads: "This lawsuit is completely without merit. Gina Gershon paid full commission to her representatives, talent agency Innovative Artists and management company Untitled Entertainment, who helped her book the Broadway play, Boeing Boeing." »
