One of best things about movies is that they have a powerful ability to affect us on many levels, and we each have our own personal experiences where a movie has lifted our spirits.
This is a one of those stories from Paul Collett, a good friend of the site, on how Michael J. Fox, Luke Skywalker and Buzz Lightyear once teamed up to help him through a tough time.
About a year ago I had a week off work with some kind of virus which meant I couldn’t or perhaps shouldn’t leave the house, and as the boredom set in the inevitable search through the DVD collection started. To my delight I found Teen Wolf, a present bought for me one Christmas from my best bud Jon (you may know him if you’re regulars to the site), I watched it and utterly enjoyed it, despite the »

More cowbell!
Michael J. Fox and daughter Esmé Annabelle, 8, take a break from cheering on — and ringing a cowbell for! — members of Team Fox as they run the New York City Marathon on Sunday.
Team Fox, which Michael launched in January 2006, raises much-needed funds for Parkinson’s Disease research. Diagnosed in 1991, Michael went public with the news in 1998 and has since become a strong advocate for the disease.
Michael, 48, and wife Tracy Pollan are also parents to twins Aquinnah Kathleen and Schuyler Frances, 14, and son Sam Michael, 20.

Great Scott! On this day in 1955 -- in the fiction of "Back to the Future" anyway -- Dr. Emmett Brown (Christopher Lloyd) discovered the secret of time travel. In his own words: "I was standing on the edge of my toilet hanging a clock, the porcelain was wet, I slipped, hit my head on the sink, and when I came to I had a revelation! A vision! A picture in my head! A picture of this!" This? What is this? It's This!
In honor of Dr. Brown's momentous discovery, we've decided to celebrate this day with a small image gallery. Click the image above to check out our flipbook, featuring images of the iconic DeLorean time machine and stars Lloyd, Michael J. Fox and Lea Thompson.

"Spin City" is one of the best but often forgotten sitcoms in TV history. Mostly remembered as Michael J. Fox's last prime-time series, few ever mention that "Spin" was actually a very funny show, with a rich cast of characters and brilliantly talented actors.
The sitcom about a New York City mayor and his staff was created by Gary David Goldberg of "Family Ties" fame and Bill Lawrence, a 30-year-old writer who'd penned scripts for "Friends" and "The Nanny." Lawrence would go on to create "Scrubs" and "Cougar Town."
Whether you're a fan of the Mjf days or prefer the later Heather Locklear/Charlie Sheen years, there's no denying the talent that radiated from the show's stars. Take a look at the cast of "Spin City," then and now. »

Owen Wilson has been cast to voice Marmaduke in Fox's CGI/live-action movie adaptation of the comic, according to the Hollywood Reporter. (The dog doesn't speak in the comic, but perhaps Wilson became an expert barker after working on Marley & Me and will just bow-wow his way through the film? One can hope....) THR says the film will see Marmaduke "navigate a volatile Mutts vs. Pedigrees turf war, woo the purebred of his dreams and overcome a fall from grace." The star-studded cast also includes Judy Greer, Lee Pace, and William H. Macy as humans, and Fergie, Emma Stone, George Lopez, »

I'm a Mets fan, so these days I prefer to consume my baseball in fictional terms rather than deal with the reality that my boys are a bunch of overpaid, oft-injured embarrassments to the triumphant – if drug scandal-tinged – legacy of Strawberry, Hernandez and Gooden.
Confronted with the choice to root for the Yankees or the Phillies in this year's World Series – or even the option to watch the action – I plan to opt for nearly anything else. My girlfriend wants to take in the last couple episodes of "The Rachel Zoe Project" on TiVo? Sign me up! My elderly neighbor needs me to wash her hosiery? I'm there! And if I get the chance, I'm going to pop in a DVD and take in some of the great fictional baseball teams in movie history to forget about this season. Here are my picks:

The idea of one actor playing multiple characters in a film isn't a new one even though many people begin and end the conversation with Eddie Murphy for his performances in films such as Nutty Professor and Norbit all while forgetting the comedy he brought us in Coming to America.
Before Murphy we had the likes of Mel Brooks in History of the World and Spaceballs, Alec Guiness in the fantastic Kind Hearts and Coronets and Peter Sellers in Dr. Strangelove. Outside of Murphy it seems only Mike Myers has endured the same kind of ill treatment, primarily for taking the joke to the point it wasn't funny any longer (debatable) in the Austin Powers films and then dropping the bomb that was The Love Guru.
Looking at the performances listed above I am reminded of some classic films as well as a couple that missed the mark, but we »

I wouldn't say that we here at Cinematical have a full-blown addiction to clever wearable movie tie-ins, but I would say that we have a totally healthy, totally unrequited infatuation with movie themed t-shirts. And though we may not be pledging our love to Keyboard Cat on a film site (hey, Hollywood, when is the hugable maestro getting his biopic?), we do have a fair admiration for Internet memes as well. And now we finally get to combine the two with the brand new Three Teen Wolf Moon T-Shirt!
Since you are operating some kind of Internet connected device right now in order to read this, then I assume you are already familiar with the Three Wolf Moon T-shirt that became all the craze earlier this year. If you somehow escaped the craze, a quick refresher: it was a cheesy tee sold on Amazon that became absurdly popular because of »

Apparently Christmas is nearly here?! Yesterday I received my first Christmas card (it is still October isn’t it?!) and all the signs of it fast approaching are starting to show. Not least in Disney’s new movie, A Christmas Carol which is Robert Zemeckis’ latest project.
Featuring the voices of Jim Carrey, Colin Farrell, Robin Wright Penn, Michael J. Fox and Gary Oldman, here’s another attempt at a movie that’s been made more times than I’ve watched The Rock! And that’s saying something!! A Christmas Carol is based on the book by Charles Dickens and follows the life of Ebenezer Scrooge who basically hates the world and everyone in it. 3 ghosts appear to show him the error of his ways taking him to the past, looking at the present and showing him his future.

Call them "cult classics." "Guilty pleasures." "Comfort movies." We all have a mental rolodex of flicks that may not be terribly popular but, for one reason or another, they resonate in a very special way. Maybe you saw it at the right moment. Maybe you just see gold where everyone else sees feces. Whatever the case, these are the special favorites that you keep stashed away for sick days. Here are some of ours.
The time circuits are on, the flux capacitor is fluxing and I'm gonna take today's Sick Day Stash on a journey through time with the help of "Back to the Future Part III." The movie may be the weakest entry in this venerable trilogy but it's by no means a weak movie. Dare I say it's 1.21 gigawatts of marvelous?

Yahoo have posted a new great behind the scenes featurette for Disney’s a Christmas Carol based on the book by Charles Dickens. The video shows interviews with Robert Zemeckis (Screenplay and Director) and all the main cast. The movie stars Jim Carrey playing not only the part of Ebenezer Scrooge but also that of the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future. From the trailers, it looks like it’s going to be an awesome, wild ride equipped in Disney 3D.
A Christmas Carol also stars Gary Oldman, Colin Firth, Robin Wright Penn and Michael J. Fox and is out 6th November. I’ve embedded the footage below or head over to Yahoo to view in HD.

Disney have released a new trailer for upcoming 3d movie, A Christmas Carol which is based on the Charles Dickens’ book and stars Jim Carrey as the voice of Ebenezer Scrooge. The only slight issue with the trailer is that it’s the Japanese version! Don’t let that put you off though as most of it is in English with Japanese subtitles. Check out the Japanese voice-over though – I wonder if that guy is the Japanese version of James Earl Jones!
You’ll notice that there’s a couple of new scenes which we haven’t seen in the previous trailers. The movie is directed by movie legend Robert Zemeckis and also stars Robin Wright Penn, Gary Oldman, Michael J. Fox, Bob Hoskins, Colin Firth, Cary Elwes and Molly C. Quinn.
A Christmas Carol is released in UK cinemas November 6th.

Greetings Fango Fiends! It's time once again for another installment of Fangoria Musick's Lists Of Doom - the column where we track down some of your favorite (or soon-to-be favorite) bands to get their thoughts on on the world of horror, and which films scare them.
For our 27th feature, we caught up with John Cooper, Lead Vocalist & Bassist of Skillet, the Grammy-nominated band that recently released Awake on Atlantic Records. A certified connoisseur of pop culture with "an irrational love for comic books, Star Wars, and mostly all thing science fiction", it was time for Fango to pick his brain to find out what he digs on the Horror side of life. After all, with a new single and video called "Monster", there had to be something brewing beneath the surface, right?

This past week, I revisited the Back to the Future trilogy, directed by Robert Zemeckis. These films essentially laid the groundwork for Michael J. Fox’s career — the man is synonymous with Marty McFly. The movies are a mad dash, guaranteed to raise your stress level and blood pressure no matter how many times you see them. I swear, I always think Dr. Emmett Brown and Marty are going to miss their one lighting quick chance to send Marty back to the future in the first film, despite watching it happen probably hundreds of times.
They got me thinking though — do we have any young actors like Fox in these films, frantic but cool, likeable but authoritative? Do any young guys have a role that’s so synonymous with their name that they’ll never be able to part from it?
Shia LeBeouf, for example, is probably most closely associated with the Transformers movies. »

At the 61st Annual Primetime Emmy Awards Sunday night, Jeff Probst won his second Emmy in a row for outstanding reality host. People caught up with Probst about his winning weekend and the growing buzz about Survivor: Samoa's Russell. --Cynthia Wang How was your Emmy night? We got back last week. It's a bit of culture shock to go from the islands of Samoa, where people literally are walking around with machetes, to Hollywood, where people are walking around with Emmys, but it is good to be home. How was it to win your second Emmy? It happened so fast! I had seen Alec Baldwin just go up there and be so present. He made a joke about Rob Lowe and I thought, "Man, that guy, he's not nervous" ... So that was what was going through my head when as I was walking up: "Don't be nervous, just enjoy this. »

Here’s one for the gadget-lovers among you Boxwishers. This week we’re going futuristic to ponder what kind of fictional thingy-me-bob we’d most like to have. Of course, this kind of question takes plenty of serious thought, cinema having offered up so many tempting techie treats over the years and there are many things to consider. Should it be a gadget that is practical and can make an impact on your everyday comings and goings? In contrast, something frivolous and fun that would simply be a novel party trick? Or just so darned special that it would always bring a smile to your face? We’ve pondered long and hard on this one and have made our final selections. Click over the jump to check them out, and, as always, do let us know your verdict on this week’s question: “What fantastical film gadget would you most like to become reality? »

How can I start an honest discussion about what Fox has meant to me? How can I pull him apart from my 28 years of experience in this world?
“Hope is optimism informed by knowledge.” -- Christopher Reeve For all my witticisms, for all my analysis of the cultural icon Michael J. Fox had become, his evolution from acting heartthrob to stem cell research activist to author and family man, and now reflecting on what his life has meant to me and how I might react to the tragic news of his death, I can’t help but fall speechless, neither a witty remark nor a smarmy pun to save my life. (Well, there’s a small one, but I’ll need humor to get through this article.) Silence is perhaps the… »

Lots of celebs had fun at the Emmy Awards last night, and the good times continued around La with various afterparties. The HBO bash brought out the stars of Entourage, with Jerry Ferrara cuddling up to girlfriend Jamie-Lynn Sigler as AnnaLynne McCord smiled for the cameras. January Jones struck a pose on Et's red carpet, and inside big winners Jon Cryer and Toni Collette chatted with their newly-acquired gold. The exclusive Governor's Party was the destination of Mariska Hargitay, Jennifer Westfeldt and Jon Hamm, who wasn't home to see all the crazy moments from the latest episode of Best Drama Mad Men. Last night's Emmy Awards were a virtually scare-free zone (unless you count the abysmal hosting duties of Neil Patrick Harris). Dexter lost to Mad Men in the drama category. And Michael C. Hall lost to Bryan Cranston, while Jimmy Smits lost to Michael J. Fox. True Blood did get an award – sort of. The scene where Bill and Sookie meet for the first time, in the show's pilot episode, won some sort of "Breakout Performance" award, as voted by the viewer. As far as I can tell, this award carries with it no statuette, no cash prize, not even a pat on the back. But genre fans can take some comfort in the fact that Lost's Michael Emerson won his second Emmy for his work... »
