Roger Daltrey of The Who has compared Jack Black to Elvis Presley. Daltrey noted that the onstage enthusiasm Black displays with his satirical band Tenacious D reminded him of the rock 'n' roll legend. The U.K government has been heavily criticised for wasting tax-payers' money on a magazine which claimed that Elvis Presley was a gypsy.
Gypsy Roma Traveller History Month magazine also suggests that Presley's ancestors were Sinti - German gypsies who emigrated to America in the 18th century.
The publication - for school pupils - also claims that film legends Charlie Chaplin and Rita Hayworth came from gypsy backgrounds.
The magazine was given a $140,000 (GBP70,000) grant by the British government .
But Schools Minister Lord Adonis has been criticised over the "politically correct" initiative.
Member of Parliament Philip Davies says, "This is a grotesque abuse of taxpayers' money. When families are struggling to pay their bills, for the Government to fund this magazine which speaks garbage is just another kick in the teeth."
The Department of Children, Schools and Families said the magazine was designed to increase understanding of travellers' cultural heritage.
A spokesman said: "It is not true that Andrew Adonis has approved or endorsed the distribution to schools of Gypsy Roma Traveller History Month magazine.
"The department provided GBP70,000 of funding to the gypsy, Roma and traveller community. The aim was to produce material and events across the country to celebrate the culture of the gypsy, Roma and traveller community."

The story of Elvis Presley's manager and mentor Colonel Tom Parker is heading for the big screen.
Hollywood producers David Permut and Steve Binder have bought the movie rights to Alanna Nash's 2003 novel The Colonel: The Extraordinary Story of Colonel Parker and Elvis Presley.
The book follows Parker's showbiz career; first as a carnival hustler and in later years when he discovered Elvis and helped transform him into the King of Rock and Roll.
It also explores the secret early life of the man - born in the Netherlands as Andreas Cornelis van Kuijk - and his link to the murder of a female acquaintance shortly before he left for a new life in the U.S.
Binder has a long association with the Blue Suede Shoes hitmaker, who died in 1977 - he produced the legendary Elvis Presley Comeback Special in 1968.

No teenager could possibly have hurried more eagerly to an Elvis Presley concert on that day in the late 1950’s when I led a delegation of the Urbana High School Science Fiction Club to attend a speech at the campus of the University of Illinois. The speaker was Sir Arthur C. Clarke, our hero not only for his great science fiction, but also for such concepts as the triangulated space satellite and the “space elevator.” The first has paid off already with global communication. The second is still seriously proposed as using infinitely strong strings of Buckyballs to link earth to a space station.
Clarke was erudite, witty, friendly, and signed all my books. It was years later that I met him in connection with his screenplay for “2001: A Space Odyssey,” still the greatest of all science fiction films. And years after that when I began receiving reproaches from

Latest: A U.K. newspaper has been forced to apologise to pregnant singer Lisa Marie Presley after it published an article alleging she was overweight.
Elvis Presley's daughter says the Daily Mail's story, which was picked up by various media sources worldwide, ridiculed her appearance and forced her to disclose she is expecting a child.
Simon Smith, the star's U.K. lawyer, claimed the publication's claims she had an "unhealthy appetite" and is "growing like her dad" caused her to feel "deeply upset and offended".
On Friday the 40-year-old received an apology from Associated Newspapers, the Daily Mail's publishers, after she launched a libel claim at London's High Court.
Presley has two teenage children from her previous marriage to Danny Keogh - Riley, 18, and 15-year-old Benjamin - but this is her first child with husband Michael Lockwood.

It doesn't take Einstein to figure out that Mariah Carey's latest album E=MC2 would do well following the No. 1 success of her single "Touch My Body." But how well did it do? Carey's new album came in at No. 1 on the Billboard pop charts – marking her sixth time at the top spot. She also sold more albums in her first week than ever before – 462,971 copies. It also means that Carey is now tied with Janet Jackson and Madonna – right behind Barbra Streisand, who has eight – for the female artist with the most No. 1 albums. Earlier this month, Carey

Rock 'n' roll icon Elvis Presley reportedly made a secret trip to London in 1958.
It had long been thought, much to the disappointment of British fans, that Presley had only visited the UK once, when his plane touched down in Scotland to refuel in 1960.
However, theatre producer and former Coronation Street actor Bill Kenwright revealed on a Radio 2 programme that the singer took a sight-seeing tour of London in 1958 with UK counterpart Tommy Steele.
Steele and Presley were often mobbed whenever they made public appearances and Kenwright told the Daily Mail the thought of them wandering around London was "quite . . .

Forties film noir star Lizabeth Scott has hit out at the "scruffy" celebrities of today, like supermodel Kate Moss - insisting they look like "vagrants".
Scott, who is famed for roles alongside Humphrey Bogart, Kirk Douglas and Elvis Presley, believes that stars have an obligation to be stylish and sophisticated as they are role models to teenage girls.
And the 85-year-old targets Moss as one of the worst offenders.
She says, "I saw Kate Moss and her new beau all over the cover on the news-stand and thought they looked like vagrants; so scruffy and grubby - just awful.
"I'd like to see Miss Moss smarten up her act. Doesn't she know young women look up to her? She would have lasted 10 seconds under the Hollywood studio system."
But Scott has kind words for a handful of A-listers who do meet her style criteria - including Victoria Beckham, Dita Von Teese and Paris Hilton.
She adds, "Two of the three might not be the sharpest tools in the box, but they are glamorous and always impeccably turned out."

Madonna has knocked Estelle and Kanye West off the top of the UK singles chart to score her 13th number one.
'4 Minutes', her duet with Justin Timberlake, zooms from four to one to become her first chart-topper since 2006's 'Sorry'.
Only Elvis Presley (21 number ones), The Beatles (17), Westlife (14) and Cliff Richard (14) have reached the summit more often than the pop queen.
Estelle and Kanye West's 'American Boy' is pushed into second place after four weeks at the top, with Sam Sparro slipping to third with 'Black and Gold'.
Notable climbs come from Swedish singer September, who jumps from nine to five with 'Cry For You', and Usher, who leaps leaps from 14 . . .

Priscilla Presley has become the latest celebrity to be voted off U.S. TV show Dancing With The Stars.
The former wife of Elvis Presley was the oldest competitor in the series at 62 years of age, but her interpretation of the rumba on Tuesday earned her only 21 out of a possible 30 points.
The judges were unimpressed with her routine, branding it "too careful" and "lacking in spontaneity".
Presley told the judges, "I applaud you. You did a great job," before admitting, "This has been an incredible experience. It is life-changing. ...I learned so much about myself and all the things I can do."
The seven stars still in with a shot at landing the dancing crown include actress Shannon Elizabeth and R+B star Mario.

Latest: Pop diva Mariah Carey has become only the second artist to score 18 U.S. number one singles - beating the late Elvis Presley into third place.
The singer's new song, Touch My Body, surged up the Billboard Hot 100 countdown to take the top slot after being made available as a digital download.
Carey has now claimed her 18th number one single, leaving her just two short of The Beatles' record.
The Heartbreaker star was previously tied in second place with Presley - who topped the U.S. pop charts 17 times.
But Carey, who celebrated the news while on a promotional tour in London, insists she could never compare herself to musical greats such as Presley and The Beatles; she's just pleased to still be enjoying success 18 years after releasing her first album.
She says, "I really can never put myself in the category of people who have not only revolutionized music but also changed the world. That's a completely different era and time ... I'm just feeling really happy and grateful."

Madonna will trump Elvis Presley, The Beatles and Michael Jackson this week, if her latest single lands in the U.S. top ten - the 37th time she has managed the feat.
Her collaboration with Justin Timberlake - 4 Minutes - is hotly tipped to reach the top ten, which will lift her above Elvis Presley, who made the top ten 36 times in his career.
The Beatles stand third in the all-time list, with 34, ahead of Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson on 28.
2008 has been an eventful year for the Material Girl. As well as a new album and rumours of a world tour to promote it, the 49-year-old was inducted into the Rock'n'Roll hall of fame earlier this month.

Mariah Carey is on course to make history next week (beg31Mar08) by becoming only the second artist to claim 18 number one singles in the U.S.
The pop diva's new song, Touch My Body, is expected to surge up the Billboard Hot 100 countdown after being made available as a digital download earlier this week (ends24Mar08).
And chart experts expect the track to topple Usher's Love In This Club next week.
If Carey does hit the top spot, she'll claim her 18th number one, leaving her just two chart-toppers shy of the Beatles' record.
Carey currently shares the second spot with Elvis Presley - both have topped the U.S. pop charts 17 times.
The pop superstar recently told Billboard that she's often reminded of the Beatles' record, but, "it's not like I sit around thinking about that type of stuff while I'm creating something."
