Parallel Worlds are very much in fashion at the moment.
There are dramas such as FlashForward and Paradox on TV while, on the big screen, the latest Star Trek movie created an alternative universe through time travel.
So sci-fi thriller Triple Hit has come along at just the right time.
And yet it still manages to seem refreshingly different. I can't recall a series or movie where there were three incarnations of the same person existing on wildly different versions of Earth.
The film was made by Leamington-based Entanglement Productions and won third place in the Best Film Category at the recent Institute of Videography awards, held at Coventry's Ricoh Arena. It was then screened at the first Falstaff International Film Festival in Stratford-on-Avon.
Triple Hit's writer and director Huw Bowen (pictured right) said: "The film festival was a lot of fun, and we won another award - Special Mention for Best Visual Effects, »

(Tony Leung, above.)
(As the new decade begins, we're going to be running a few interviews with top talents, and on noteworthy films, from the Naughties that we haven't posted online yet. It's the sixth feature collaboration between the pair, which began in 1989 with Days of Being Wild, and reached its most famous heights on these shores with Chungking Express and In the Mood for Love, the film to which 2046 is an almost-sequel. "Almost" because Leung plays what might best be described as another incarnation, or different shading, of his character from In the Mood for Love. »

In doing so, I noticed there are many films from my lifetime that deserve eventual recognition. The National Film Preservation Board selects up to 25 films each year to be included in the Registry, so I have selected 23 yet unselected films from my lifetime (one for each year) that I would like to nominate for 2010… in fact, I’ve actually submitted my list of nominations to the National Film Preservation Board, as they encourage the public to do. More info on this can be found at their website.
This list of 23 films spans my lifetime, which means they fall between my year of birth (1978) and the new cut-off year which is 10 years back (2000). This is Not »

While 2009's theatrical releases proved to be the weakest rolled out from Hollywood since the beginning of the decade, the dizzying array of Blu-ray releases were anything but. With the Criterion Company increasing their output and the studios giving some of their most popular recent films the HD red carpet treatment, it did not take much persuasion for some to stay out of the theater and at home to get their cinematic dollar's worth. For myself, ten prime examples of this are as follows.
Wings of Desire: Criterion Collection
I have owned Wim Wenders' fantasy drama in many a format (VHS, Laserdisc, DVD) over the past twenty years, yet none have come close to capturing the true beauty of this German masterpiece the way Criterion has. With a knockout transfer and a great selection of supplemental materials (next up: Paris, Texas) to back it up, one can only »
