- DirectorKarl FreundStarsBoris KarloffZita JohannDavid MannersA resurrected Egyptian mummy searches Cairo for the girl he believes to be his long-lost princess. What appears to be the first big, full-length mummy film and the biggest influence on future mummy films.
However, there do seem to be earlier films some of which there isn't much information on (some may not fall into our definition of a mummy film) and some are now missing but I'll list them next and let interested parties use that as a springboard for further investigation. This won't include Eyes of the Mummy as there apprently isn'l a mummy in it. - DirectorGeorges MélièsStarsJehanne d'AlcyGeorges MélièsA man digging inside an Egyptian tomb chops up a mummy, then resurrects the woman inside it.Possibly the first horror film, but it appears to definitely be the first mummy film. It was thought lost until a copy turned up in 2005.
- DirectorWalter R. BoothAn old proprietor is startled by the sudden appearance of a skull. Just as he draws back from the uncanny object, the doors of a mediaeval wardrobe fly back and a hand prods him with a sword. He turns to confront his assailant when it vanishes, and at the same instant the skull flies to the other end of the room. He clutches at the skull, when it turns into the half form of a girl from the waist up, suspended in mid-air. As he gazes in amusement, the other half of the girl, fully dressed from her waist down, walks across the room, and the two halves of the figure join, making a girl complete. In an amorous fashion the old man folds his arms around the girl's waist with the intention of stealing a kiss, but the girl immediately changes into an old woman, who grins in evident delight at the old man's discomfort. In great anger he throws her into the wardrobe and locks the door. Unseen by him, the woman has again become a girl. A great effect is here produced. Through the doors, which are solid and closed, the form of the girl appears through the woodwork. Hastily opening the door, the old man is then confronted by an Egyptian mummy. Other strange things happen. As the pawnbroker flies from the room a large and grotesque head arises from the smoke and slowly advances toward the spectators. Larger and larger the head grows until it fills the entire picture, and appears as though it would swallow the whole audience. A most laughable and mystifying scene.
- Reading that a certain dealer has an ancient Egyptian mummy for sale, an antique professor goes out to inspect the curio. It meets with his satisfaction and he purchases it. He begins to carry the thing home, and meets with quite a little trouble; but his will makes the way and he reaches his room safely. Anxious to begin his investigations, he sheds his coat quickly, rolls up his sleeves, and taking his huge carving knife in hand begins to cut the mummy up. His old landlady passes by and sees her boarder at his peculiar work; he is so engrossed in his task that he does not see her, and she, catching a glimpse of a human form, runs out in alarm. With the cry that a man is being cut up in her house, she summons the butcher, the baker, the grocer and a score of women, who follow in wonder. The entire crowd goes to a police station and they summon the chief and the whole force. Now the army marches into the house, where, cautiously, they climb the stairs. One brave fellow opens the door and the whole mob soon clusters about the sarcophagus. But their alarm turns to naught when they see that it is only a mummy, and they depart in laughter. In the last view the professor is showing the old woman what's in a mummy.

- DirectorCharles BrabinStarsMarc McDermottMiriam NesbittRex IngramWhen his daughter Princess Ameena died, Rameses, the Egyptian Pharaoh, placed a necklace about her neck and swore that whoever took it thence should never rest in peace until it was returned. Some thousands of years later, Ameena's mummy was unpacked in the New York Art Museum and the necklace was discovered. The news of the discovery of the priceless relic reached the ears of a band of thieves and '"Diamond Mary" was dispatched to steal the necklace. She was successful in her mission, but the tremendous sensation caused by the theft made disposing of the jewels in America absolutely impossible. Accordingly Mary sailed for England, where she was joined by accomplished criminal "English Jim." Detective Imbert was engaged by the museum to conduct the search for the missing relic. Imbert followed Mary to England and had her arrested, but not before she had given the necklace to her confederate. The pair escaped to Paris, and there Imbert had "English Jim" arrested with equally futile results. Then he followed them to Venice, where they overpowered him after an exciting chase in gondolas. Then to Rome, where "English Jim" paid the penalty of his ill-spent life by falling from a roof in an attempt to escape the relentless sleuth. How Imbert gave up the chase in Naples and how he finally recovered the gems in New York there is not space to tell. Nor is there room to describe the wonderful historic settings in which so many of the scenes are laid. We can only mention Notre Dame in Paris, the Grand Canal, the Campanile and the Doge's Palace in Venice, the Forum, the Colosseum, and St. Peter's.
- DirectorFred HuntleyStarsHarold LockwoodMabel Van BurenHenry OttoRaymond Truxton and Amos Willing, two young American archaeologists, are on a scientific expedition in Egypt. On excavating an ancient tomb, they find sitting therein, in a state of suspended animation, a beautiful young woman, seemingly an Egyptian princess. They find a parchment lying by her side, confirming this fact and indicating that she has been buried 2,000 years. The manuscript recites, that in a former life, the girl was beloved of two priests, one she loved and one she hated, and it had as a prophetic codicil that after twenty centuries she would be unearthed by the reincarnated souls of her two lover priests. This princess was buried alive concealed in the tomb at the instigation of Meloid, the vengeful priest, whom she hated, after he had accomplished the murder of Shumek, his rival. Meloid managed to secure the consent of King Sestoris on the basis that the woman had allowed herself to love a priest, which under the ancient Egyptian law meant death or burial under a hypnotic spell, which resulted in suspended animation. Then through their modern, scientific running, the Americans restore her to consciousness. While pursuing this strange and solemn story, Truxton and Willing, erstwhile friends, now realize that they are the reincarnated suitors, and the latter, obsessed by the spirit of the vengeful Meloid, feels a most powerful desire to slay Truxton and seize the prize, but through the passage of the centuries, this troubled and scarified soul has been purified and strengthened for better things. He controls himself, gives up the girl and vanishes.

The reawakening of the unsuspecting husband, the revenge of which a former victim of the wily schemer wreaks, and the saving of the innocent woman are fraught with thrills and dramatic suspense in abundance. It is the sort of production which can not but impress those who view it. (Hearst's Sunday American, ((Atlanta, Ga.)) 7 November 1915)

- DirectorBruce MitchellStarsFreddie FralickProfessor Muggles sneers at Billy's temerity in asking for the hand of his daughter. He tells him that he has never done anything for science, and until he does so he had better keep away. Billy sadly kisses Rena good-bye and he leaves. Before he gets home he has an idea definitely outlined, suggested by the sleeping form on the beach of Fritz, the apartment house janitor. With care and tenderness, Billy wraps Fritz in a winding sheet and then buries him by the seashore. An excited phone message to the professor, and Billy returns to wait. The professor, followed by Rena, arrives duly and the professor's delight at the discovery of the mummy is great. He and Billy dig up the body and the professor takes it to his laboratory to try the effect of the elixir of life he has mixed. Meanwhile Mrs. Fritz searches for her lost spouse. She trails him as far as the beach but loses all trace of him there. Discouraged, she starts home and passes the Muggles' residence on the way. Fritz has just been awakened by Billy while the professor's back is turned and a liberal injection of the elixir has been made. The method of injection more than the elixir itself has aroused the sleeping janitor and as he sits up and gazes on the formidable array of knives and operating instruments, a sudden desire to leave possesses him. He takes his departure before the professor can interfere and starts for parts unknown. Professor Muggles is close in pursuit, but Mrs. Fritz, whom Fritz passes without stopping, is closer. Drawing up the rear are Rena and Billy, delayed somewhat by their laughter. The professor bravely follows until he loses track of Fritz, and then he returns home, regretting only that while his elixir of life is wonderful it is a bit too strong for an ordinary mummy and he will never be able to prove its value to the world, as the mummy is gone. Billy, however, he gratefully thanks and as proof of his gratitude he gives him Rena's hand.
