It is one of the few from the 60s to have the modern/post-B&W horror feel, and doesn't fit with the cheesier Hammer-type horror films of the time. It works more like a straight suspense drama with horror elements, relying more on story and character. Obviously influenced by Hitchcock. A young woman uncovers a dark Satanic plot which involves her.

Its influence can even be seen in Wes Craven's "Scream" many years later.
