British sexploitation - comedies and dramas - 1968-1981
A list of the British sexploitation comedies and dramas released between the start of the permissive society and relaxation of censorship laws 1968 until the real decline in popularity and growth in home video ownership in 1981. It's frequently commented that the sex comedies were neither sexy or funny, but they were hugely popular in their day and gave the flagging British film industry the boost it needed in the 70s, Confessions Of A Window Cleaner being the most successful British production in UK cinemas in 1974. However, it's been less the sex, but more the portrayal of the mundanity of British life in the 70s that have given these films continued cult interest, plus the appearances of a few notable TV and film actors, some of who would rather these films disappeared out of existence.
