Standing out at Filmmaking Style
TV Shows/Movies that have a unique and very peculiar or particular style that sets them apart from other generic approach to their particular genre. Not that i'm saying they are exempt of flaws nor that they follow the rule of "Style over substance", simply that they excell at stylization whether or not their substance is ever that unique.
I shall also write with each entry what stylization of the filmmaking I find captivating

- DirectorAkira KurosawaStarsToshirô MifuneTakashi ShimuraKeiko TsushimaFarmers from a village exploited by bandits hire a veteran samurai for protection, who gathers six other samurai to join him. There's no question why this film is regarded as one of the best of all time. But I must say, out all the things it does well, what I cannot get over is how proficiently and captivatingly the camera work and above all the framing and composition of EVERY SINGLE SHOT is. Outstanding.
- DirectorLen WisemanStarsKate BeckinsaleScott SpeedmanShane BrollySelene, a vampire warrior, is entrenched in a conflict between vampires and werewolves, while falling in love with Michael, a human who is sought by werewolves for unknown reasons.Say whatever you want about weak story, characterisation or shot continuity. What amazed me of this film is its sense of style. Starting from the poste itself, the Matrix 1999 did a number on every subsequent action film for the following decade, because every film of this "subgenre", like Blade and other dark fantasy action movies follow the same style. And yet, Underworld stands out to me because the shot composition and framing is superbly well done (however, not perfect). And the emotional undertone of the story is quite engaging, even the lore and the story it starts is captivating. Although too bad the pacing is atrocious, the movie doesn't start for a solid hour.
- CreatorGreg DanielsRicky GervaisStephen MerchantStarsSteve CarellJenna FischerJohn KrasinskiA mockumentary on a group of typical office workers, where the workday consists of ego clashes, inappropriate behavior, tedium and romance. For what it is, a "realistic" mockumentary, it hits hard with its emotional beats. Like, its awareness of what makes situational comedy, realistic life dramas and the weight of emotions and the world at large hits me hard every time. I think it absolutely sores when it comes to that raw depiction of life frustrations, chances not taken, sabotage, toxicity, disappointment. Feelings other media just lightly tackles or addresses in the drama genre, and this is a comedy!
- DirectorStanley KubrickStarsKeir DulleaGary LockwoodWilliam SylvesterAfter uncovering a mysterious artifact buried beneath the Lunar surface, a spacecraft is sent to Jupiter to find its origins: a spacecraft manned by two men and the supercomputer HAL 9000.I know this is a masterpiece, but I just don't get the big "thing". This is for me, so far, the best example of style over substance I have ever experienced. Not that there isn't any substance, just that the goal of this arthouse film is to provoque a sense of longing and unease, of confussion and debate. With its ambiguous message and impactful imagery, the clarity of the story is enough to not be considered abstract but in the end it doesn't leave you with a sense of hope nor dread. And I assume that is the state the filmmaker wants to leave you with, well I'm one who prefers to know what I get myself into. But at least now I can say I have seen it and I don't particularly like it.
- DirectorFranklin J. SchaffnerStarsCharlton HestonRoddy McDowallKim HunterAn astronaut crew crash-lands on a planet where highly intelligent non-human ape species are dominant and humans are enslaved. This movie, to this day, still has one of the most brilliant approaches to mankind in an evolutionary level. The lore of this film and that this film begins (followed by its subsequent sequels), really showcases the thought and coherency applied to its thesis. And I absolutely adore it, I think it is a brilliant premise and a very thought-provoking film.
